Ishan Kishan - Indian batter

Someone's taking a Netflix show way too seriously lol.

Nah, I don't take netflix shows seriously but its ok lets wait it out to see how he is.. this thread will remain.. if he changes his attitude which he probably hasn't I'll be happy to be proved wrong.

although here is another instance of the past:

https://www.cricketcountry.com/criclife/buzz/ishan-kishan-road-rage-controversy-cops-claim-that-matter-is-settled-511714

India’s Under-19 cricket captain Ishan Kishan found himself in a controversy after his car hit an autorickshaw. Soon reports surfaced that the youngster was arrested for reckless driving and he and his father Pranab Pandey were manhandled after the incident which took place at Kankarbagh area last evening.

However police have denied the arrest and confirmed that the issue was amicably settled between two parties. A report from PTI, quoted Officer In Charge of Kankarbagh police station Vijay Kumar Mishra saying, “There has been no arrest or FIR in the case. Both the parties have settled it mutually at the police station yesterday.”

He further said that it was Kishan’s father Pandey who was driving the car that hit the auto. After that, the auto turtle and a woman sustained minor injury.

There were reports that the father-son duo was manhandled and arrested. It was also reported that Ishan oversped, misbehaved with public and damaged another vehicle. Just weeks ahead of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, the news certainly came as a scare to many. However the Bihar Cricket Association joint secretary Neeraj Singh said the “issue was blow out of proportion” and there is nothing to worry about.

Lol let this wannabe International superstar stay in IPL. Don't need such characters anywhere near Indian national team. It seems success and IPL money got to his already arrogant head. :inti

I shudder at thought of this legside hack representing us at any level internationally!

Indians calling him a hack is a bit ironic considering they have Pant playing for them in their international team. I don't know why with so many wicket-keeping options they've chosen Pant who's neither a good batsman nor a good keeper.

He does look like a bit of a showboat though. A particularly dislike such behavior from someone with his stature. A bit like Imam ul Haq trying to be tough and agressive.

Because people who have followed them over the years know Pant is twice the player.

Okay. I've literally never seen Pant hit a ball without losing his balance. He's the quintessential hack. Developing a bit of a pot belly as well, which is never a good sign. Even if Ishan Kishan isn't any better, there are other options.

2 hundreds away from home against anderson, broad, woakes, cummins, hazlewood, starc, lyon. Ishan kishan can only dream of doing this.
Pant looks like a hack but while hitting but at last the runs matter not the style.

That's alright. You've clearly not watched them enough.

How can he attempt to do it without even getting a single International match? It seems you have different rules for different hacks. :inti

Umar Akmal got a hundred in his debut match in NZ against the likes of Shane Bond. We all know what happened there in the end.

Umar akmal wasn't a wicketkeeper, not many wktkeeper batsman can do what pant did.
Secondly Umar Akmal had ego issues and as evident by his recent "kaha hain fat" incident he is not mentally stable.
Thirdly, if we leave his ego and attitude issues aside, he is still better than any of your test bats other than babar.

You need to perform well in first class or ipl in order to earn a spot in the test or loi team.

Kishan averages 35 in first class, pant averages 48.
In ipl also there's no comparison.
And before you start ranting about how ipl is not relevant to you, i have also mentioned their first class stats.

Among the trio of Samson, Kishan and Pant, Pant is by far the best batsmen of them as far as test cricket is concerned. In test cricket, he plays with an uncluttered mind and does well. That inning of 159 vs Australia was as good as any specialist batsmen can play.

He hasn't played enough home test but if he plays, he will do even better with the bat as he showed the glimpses in just a couple of innings.

Even in World Cup 2019 semi final, he played a very reasonable knock coming to bat at 4/3, if he and Pandya would have got out at one- digit score like how Rohit, Virat and Rahul got out, then we would have probably bowled out under 85.

I can't deny pant's talent but I just dislike him because he is fat, unathletic, has disciplinary issues, loses balance whilst batting, plays brainless innings and acts like a teenager.

I hope it's only cause he is still 22. He needs to mature fast.

Jharkhand skipper Ishan Kishan put on a sensational batting performance, smashing 173 runs in just 94 balls studded with 11 sixes against Madhya Pradesh in the Elite Group B match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Saturday.

Ishan whacked five sixes and 12 fours to bring up 102 runs in just 74 balls before unleashing the beast within himself. In the last 20 balls he faced, the Jharkhand skipper slammed 71 runs as the side crossed the 200-run mark in the 26th over.

Top talent. Any other team and he would have got a look in atleast the T20s. Why are we dithering about with Iyer, Dhawan and Pandey in this format while we have this boy?

Dhawan and Pandey are especially useless in T20s. They should have been discarded years ago.

Fantastic talent, hopefully we will see him playing for India soon. Imagine our WT20 team with Rohit, Kohli, KL, Pant, Pandya and Kishan:ds

He is very good but last time when I saw him I felt he needs to tighten his game a bit vs quality attacks. He should be given the T20 series vs England to show his capability. Same for SKY.

The challenge for Indian team management is that they can't ignore any of SKY, Pant and Kishan now and it will also be unfair to discard Samson or Iyer. I think Manish Pandey can be comfortably ignored now.

These innings won't help him because wicketkeeper batsman spot is sealed for the next 10 years at least. :inti

Agree with everything except for Samson part

Samson needs to show some consistency even at domestic level.

Hope Ishan Kishan gets enough chances now that he has got selected. Hope he succeeds as we are desperately short of someone really explosive in our LoI middle order.

Makes his debut for India in the 2nd T20I against England today. How do you think he'll get on?

Impressed with him so far.

The commentators mentioned that he reminds them of De Kock and I have to agree.

These new Indian Batsmen don't get intimidated on the bigger stage on debut becausethey've already played against these International bowlers in the IPL.

These young Indian batsmen are at a complete different level. Luxury problems for Kohli and co.

Playing his first international match after:

44 First-class matches
77 List A matches
95 T20s

We were just wasting time on Samson

Kishan should play in MO when Rohit comes back

Pakistani fans take note. This new puppy is a showpony of Akhtar's level. :)))

Great debut, reminded me a little of Davey Warner's debut in T20 vs South Africa at the MCG.. Big Ground, great bowlers and smack smack smack..

Ishan Kishan :

- Second Indian player to score a fifty on T20I debut

- First Indian player to hit four sixes on T20I debut

Playing his first international match after:

44 First-class matches
77 List A matches
95 T20s

Battle-hardened through hundreds of domestic cricket matches at the age of 22, playing in the Indian domestic circuit in all formats.

My assumption is first inning might be different from debut?

50+ score on T20I debut innings for India
61 A Rahane v Eng Manchester 2011
56 Ishan Kishan v Eng Ahmedabad 2021
50 R Uthappa v Pak Durban 2007
50*Rohit Sharma v SA Durban 2007

I hope Rohit/Kohli know that they have to tame this lad’s arrogance..

A special player. Has got another gear in him as well. Him and Shaw opening for the next decade please

Most runs for India in T20I Debut

Rahane and Ishan did it in their debut match.

Uthappa's debut match was against Scotland. Match was washed out after the toss.

Rohit made his debut against Eng (Yuvi's 6 6s match) but didn't get to bat.

Stunning debut today. Always thought he was a hack until that tied game in IPL where he scored 90+. Looks stronger and improved his power hitting a lot in the last few months. Finally a good selection by Kohli instead of Dhawan.

That Rohit innings was the best of all

It was a must win game for both South Africa & India to progress to semi finals. It was green seaming pitch & India was in big trouble against the South African pace attack. Then Rohit played a blinder to take India past 150

Then on the field , Rohit produced a Jonty Rhodes style run out. Funny how he was seen as one of the fittest guys in the team those early days - compared to his slightly rotund looks now :)

Kid has matured right before our eyes. He was always a very talented but very indisciplined young man.

Hope he keeps working hard.

He is a poor man’s QDK. He just needs to stop playing brainless shots like he did today to get out.

Samson will never play an international match again...

His initial years were wasted due to Dhoni. He never recovered from that. Confidence matters at this level and his talent was completely wasted. He close to 27 now. He should just concentrate on IPL and make the most of it. Too much competition in the team and he is way down the pecking order.

Those failed attempted reverse sweeps shots are so very annoying.

Somebody needs to fell him to delete this from his armoury.

He's one of those players that needs a few conditions like pitch, where the ball is pitched in his favor to find success. He's a limited player but is stellar in those limited parameters. That's not good enough to be part of Indian team.

Reminded me of his first innings in domestic cricket where he made 87 on a raging dustbowl against Jadeja & Co as a 17 year old.

People had lots of expectations from him since that time and he has finally reached the level which was expected of him. Still a long way to go.

Yeah. He doesn't need to play those shots when he can play proper cricketing shots like the ones he was playing today. It seems he got carried away even after getting dropped by Stokes when he was at 40. These youngsters should play these glory shots only in low class leagues where crowd doesn't care about the outcome of the match. :inti

Yes that’s why the debut inning ..

Just read your posts here. Would be a pity if this guy is lost to attitude :inti He looks amazing.

He defn has a lot of confidence now compared to U-19 .. hopefully as Saurav said he can channel it..

And that is how it should be. He is playing Ranji and domestics for 5 years now. Started at the age of 17.
All the young players coming into Indian team now.. More or less have same pathway. Unless you are outrageously and crazily run scoring beast... Like Prithvi Shaw was in recent times. He played 10-12 matches i think and debut at 18.
Also, I have observed since Dhoni, Every Indian player in the interview.. Always repeats one line.. Process.
Believe in Process. Saw Kishan's press conference and he spoke about that as well. Looks a confident player. Lets see.

Ahmedabad: Ishan Kishan was expectedly nervous ahead of his maiden international assignment at the senior level. He must have received copious advice from coaches, teammates, friends and family but one particular stood out – play like the way you have been doing in IPL. And the result was a half-century on debut for the former India U-19 captain.

Facing an attack comprising Jofra Archer, Chris Jordan and Adil Rashid, Kishan, who opened the innings, belted 56 off 32 with five fours and four sixes making a memorable entry into international cricket. “Obviously, it is not pressure to play for India, it is a privilege and proud feeling to represent your country and wear the blue jersey,” the 22-year-old said during a post-match media interaction.

“Before the match I was told to go and open the innings and play freely the way I play in IPL. I was told not to take extra pressure. But it being my first game I was little nervous while going at the ground. But when you wear the jersey of your country that pressure simply goes away and you try to give your best,” he added.

Kishan represents Mumbai Indians in the IPL and plays alongside some of the most illustrious names in international cricket. Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah are his teammates and facing them in the nets has prepared him well for quality pace attack.

“It obviously helped in the nets. They are very pacy bowlers and to hit shots against them gives confidence,” he said. “In IPL you get to face quality bowlers from across the world and you start getting used to these bowlers. And I think that really helped me.”

India sauntered to the target of 165 to draw level at one-all in the five-match T20I series, a contest that also saw captain Virat Kohli’s return to form. Kohli remained unbeaten on 73 off 49, an innings laced with five fours and three sixes.

Together with Kohli, Kishan added 94 runs for the second wicket after India were jolted early when opener KL Rahul was dismissed for a six-ball duck. “It was proud feeling for me because I had just seen him (Kohli) on TV, his attitude on the ground, but to see it from the other end is totally different. I think it is something which I can change in myself, his energy, his appearance on the ground , there is a lot to learn from him. The way he talks in the ground it takes pressure from you. I just want to make sure that I learn a lot from him in this series,” Kishan said.

Kishan is aware that he may have opened the innings on debut but it may not always be the case. “I feel that as you play higher levels in cricket, there’s no fixed spot for you. It’s not like you will only open; you keep on floating. Like there’s a lot of emphasis on left-right combination these days, so I don’t think of any spot, I play the situation. I try to do whatever the team needs from me,” he said.

It’s do with Dravid. He always talked about process and the youngsters under his coaching have picked it up

He knows that he will probably be coming at 2 down once Rohit returns. So one more WK Bat who will be a specialist batsman now.
Sanju Samson will have to raise his game to another level to challenge Ishaan for T20 spot.

He has the confidence and personality to succeed at international level. Looks a good player.

It looks bad to people watching but those ugly shots are what are needed to upset the bowlers rhythm and make them bowl where the batsman wants to. Otherwise it is impossible to hit some of those conventional shots without the gimme balls that the bowlers are being forced to deliver.

It is suffocating to give credit to Dravid where it is absolutely not due. We had youngsters coming in before Dravid was at the NCA and we will have more coming. We can just hope that Dravid adds to them than subtracting from them with outdated advice. The mindset has completely changed since the days Dravid played cricket and hope he realizes and appreciates that.
