The ceasefire talks between the United States and Iran have entered a critical phase in Islamabad. After months of escalating tensions and repeated clashes, both sides have agreed to sit down at the negotiating table in hopes of finding a path toward stability. The international community is watching closely, as the outcome of these talks could shape the future of the region and beyond.

For Iran, the negotiations represent an opportunity to ease sanctions pressure and reduce the risk of further military confrontation. For the United States, the talks are a chance to prevent another prolonged conflict in the Middle East and to secure commitments that could lead to lasting peace. However, skepticism remains high. Previous attempts at dialogue have broken down, and mistrust between the two nations runs deep.

Observers are divided: some believe this round of talks could finally pave the way for a durable peace, while others fear that the negotiations will collapse, reigniting hostilities.

Background: Why Islamabad Matters

Ceasefire Context: After 40 days of intense fighting between Iran, the US, and Israel, Pakistan brokered a two-week ceasefire starting April 7, 2026. This halted missile strikes, air raids, and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Diplomatic Breakthrough: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that both nations, along with their allies, agreed to an immediate halt to hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon.

The Islamabad Accord: Pakistan initially proposed a 45-day phased ceasefire framework, but Iran rejected it and tabled its own 10-point peace plan. The current talks aim to reconcile these positions.

Why This Is Historic for Pakistan

Largest International Event in Years: Hosting direct negotiations between Washington and Tehran elevates Islamabad’s diplomatic profile, positioning Pakistan as a key mediator in Middle Eastern geopolitics.

Regional Stability: Success in these talks could reopen global shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz and reduce risks of escalation into a wider regional war.

Global Attention: The negotiations are being watched by the UN, Gulf states, and major powers, making Islamabad the focal point of international diplomacy.

I hope its everlasting but people like Asif should stay mum till then. Looks like he deleted his post from X

But his words are fire..
Timing was not right IMO but it was a banger of a statement. Burn for many
Such are the times that the world needs to be politically correct when commenting on genocide.

The whole mediation done by Pakistan is a constipation as no party abiding it 😆 🤣 😅
Keep joking, but the fact that the world’s biggest powers are sitting in Islamabad proves Pakistan is the one with the guts to handle the mess. That’s not constipation, that’s strength.

The only constipation I can see is across the border.

He did say Those who created this cancer by Settling European Jews on Arab land should burn in hell. Its a curse not call for destruction. Those people are dead anyway

It was an ill-timed remark considering Pakistan is mediating, but considering some of the disgraceful comments made by Trump it's being blown up out of proportion. But that's to be expected considering the genocidal nature of the israeli regime.

Khawaja Asif made the dumbest tweets possible against jews that could give an excuse for jeopardizing the mediation between Israel and USA.

The wording, the timing, the occasion is all wrong.

It surprises that the way these guys came hard on Naseem Shah, yet will give a free passage to the likes of Khawaja Asif.

Guy should be forced to resign, atleast under the pressure of ghq

Under what law?

Naseem shah was fined under the peca act

So under what act will khawaja be fined?

Khawaja uncle's comments werre a bit undignified but firstly he didn't make any anti-jewish comments, and secondly they came after a very disturbing period where the Israelis delibaretely tried to sabotage Pakistani ceasefire efforts by killing innocent Lebanese children. The scenes of those attacks were chilling. So he was probably suffering from major anger after seeing them. Can;t fine him for being a human being.

Ceas-fire will not hold if there is even one in place. USA/ Israel are just getting ready for the next phase.

The Islamabad talks, hosted by Pakistan, bring together top US officials — JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and Brad Cooper — to negotiate ceasefire durability, sanctions relief, and security frameworks.

Iran’s delegation is led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, alongside Abbas Araghchi and Majid Takht-Ravanchi, focusing on nuclear terms, sanctions, and technical agreements.

With delegations arriving Friday and talks set for Saturday, Islamabad has become the global focal point under tight security as both sides push for a broader, lasting deal.

There should be a third option on the poll for Tenuous or Conditional Peace or something similar. There is no such thing as Everlasting Peace

So realistically, the following compromises will be on the table and my prediction is these will happen (or should happen to ensure this nonsense ends:
  • Cessation of hostilities, although Israel will continue to violate here and there
  • Iran will end up making some concessions such as future inspections of their Nuclear program to ensure no enrichment is happening.
  • Iran will negotiate toll for Hormuz to help in rebuilding their country
  • Iran will negotiate on ease of sanctions.
  • US will not withdraw from the region but I think the GCC countries will now want to give up on their dependence on US and their removal from the region will slowly and organically happen over time.
  • Dont think there will be any change to the Iranian regime

If this were to happen then stretegically Iran has won.

You dont negotiate with losers. At best this is an all engulfing stalemate, which means US has lost because they failed to achieve their goals. This by default means iran won.

Expect the BJP IT cells to work overtime tonight to unleash a wave of false news and circulate on social media. Hope our sensible indian folk will not intentionally fall for it.

Big brother Pakistan will get the job done, and Islamabad Accord (2026) will put an end to this chapter in history.

Thrme reason Iranian delegation chosen Pakistan to discuss terms with US is because Iranians are fearing for their lives.... What role do you think Pakistan will play in this talk? ....IMO Pakistan's role is just a door keeper in this talk between 2 nations or just a wait we to serve chai-biscuits to the delegation.

India’s diplomatic isolation feels, in many ways, self inflicted. Over time, the government seems to have started believing its own narrative, one that may have begun as messaging for Hindutva supporters but gradually spread more widely. It’s a familiar trap: when rhetoric starts to blur the line between perception and reality.

For years now, the focus has leaned more toward optics than outcomes, loyalty over competence, and domestic storytelling over a grounded foreign policy. The result is what we’re seeing today, India finding itself increasingly absent from the tables where key decisions are being shaped.

Even the responses in this thread reflect part of that disconnect. There’s a noticeable struggle to understand what mediation actually means in practice. Whether that comes from a gap in understanding diplomacy or simply difficulty accepting an unfavorable outcome, it points to a deeper issue.

thers far too many moving parts for anyone to know for sure whats gonna happen, historically first talks between warring sides usually just let each side set out their stall. in all likelihood there will be a lot of toing and froing, but unlikely to reach a concrete agreement. what is most important for pakistan here is that they have got both sides to the table, and what happens from here is up to them, and whatever the result, pakistan has earned a lot of global goodwill for attempting to mediate peace, and trying is all pak can do.

the cherry on the cake is ofcourse indians watching and crying, knowing full well whatever happens, that for now at least, they have been set aside internationally and regionally, not by china, to whom they accept they will always play second fiddle, but to pakistan, the one nation they wanted the world to isolate more than anyone else. watching indian media outlets on twitter is hilarious.

I think you are missing the point. If things return to war, the US and Israel will keep bombing and keep attacking. At some point you run out of competent people to run the country and the military. Moreover, Iran has already played their strongest card-the Strait of Hormuz. There are tons of US special forces in the region and most likely the US marines and Navy would play a huge role in taking control of the strait, which would produce an Iranian strategic defeat.

There's very little public support for the war here in the US, but I don't think Trump cares. He'll push US oil companies to up production and take over Venezuelan oil production to counteract the loss of oil coming out of the ME. If you flood the market with oil and show that the problem of the Strait of Hormuz can be overcome with additional production, Japan and the European countries will fall in line. And where does that leave Iran? No leadership. IRGC trying to run things with a civilian government there as a front. They'll be dependent on raw materials support from China and Russia to produce their military hardware. And all the while you have to rebuild the infrastructure that has been bombed into rubble with Arab neighbors who are furious at you for bombing them with drones and missiles over and over. That will take a very long time for Iran to recover from.

We will see what happens. I don’t think Trump is putting boots on the ground. People here will eat him alive.

Besides there is the Russia and China factor as well. I don’t think either Russia or china want another US puppet regime in the region like Israel. They will do what they can to maintain the status quo.

Iranian delegation lands in Islamabad ahead of 'make-or-break' talks

Iran's negotiating team arrived in Islamabad on Friday for peace talks with the United States, even as Tehran insisted on measures it said needed to be addressed first, throwing last-minute doubt over the meetings scheduled in Pakistan.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire in the six-week war on Tuesday, just hours before a deadline after which Trump ‌had threatened to destroy Iran's civilisation.

The ceasefire has halted U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iran. But it has not ended Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which has caused the biggest-ever disruption to global energy supplies, or calmed a parallel war between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Iran's parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said on X that Washington had previously agreed to unblock Iranian assets and to a ceasefire in Lebanon, and added that talks would not start until those pledges are fulfilled.

Iranian state media reported that Qalibaf arrived in Islamabad on Friday and the delegation includes senior political, military and economic officials, including Iran's foreign minister, defence council secretary, central bank governor and several members of parliament.

Iranian delegation has landed in Islamabad... JD Vance and his team will land early this morning!

Pakistan eyes deeper economic ties as Saudi finance minister visits Islamabad

Pakistan called for deeper economic cooperation with Saudi Arabia on Friday as the Kingdom’s Finance Minister Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Jadaan visited Islamabad for talks with the top Pakistani leadership.

The visit, the first by a senior Saudi official since a temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran, comes as Islamabad is scheduled to hold peace talks between Iranian and US officials.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said his country wanted stronger economic ties across key sectors.

“The Prime Minister emphasized Pakistan’s strong commitment to expanding its cooperation with the Kingdom in all spheres, particularly in trade, investment, and economic development,” his office said in a statement circulated after he met the Saudi minister.

Sharif highlighted the depth of the ties between the two countries.

“The Prime Minister reiterated that the people and Government of Pakistan had always stood shoulder to shoulder with their Saudi brothers and sisters at all times,” the statement said.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia remained in close contact during the war in Iran after they signed a joint security pact last year under which aggression against one is viewed as a threat to both.

Saudi Arabia has also played a key role in supporting Pakistan’s economy through financial assistance and investment, as the two countries have steadily broadened cooperation across economic, defense and political spheres.

Senior Pakistani officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, attended the meeting, which focused on strengthening economic collaboration and long-term partnership.

Al-Jadaan reaffirmed the Kingdom’s resolve to further strengthen the longstanding and deep-rooted bond between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, according to the statement.

As i said before, in terms of Military fight - USA and Israel won clearly, but now in terms of negotiations, Iran is getting massive victory. Started with 2 points which they forced Trump to agree, otherwise they wouldnt have shown up. Release of Funds and Lebanon talk with Israel.

So i feel, USA might agree to the terms tentatively but the ceasefire will be broken sooner than 2 weeks. USA, Israel and others wont allow IRAN to earn billion of $ from the Hormuz. So interesting times coming ahead.

Although, unable to understand the behavior of Indian media tbh, seeing lots of clips where they deliberately trying to spread miss information, hatred speech etc. At first, they were certain that India have nothing to do with this war, we are neutral and etc. But as soon as Pakistan came into the picture, all TV channels started massive hatred debates on the topic of PEACE fgs ..

And interestingly, some OFFICIALS from China and Russia just landed in Islamabad, although i see not much media coverage of it for some reasons....

Saudi FM also. Very high stakes regionally & globally for everyone on the outcome of this talk.

Apart from indian and israeli father/mothers, visa on arrival for world media.

I do think the talks will unfortunately fail. US sadly is just using these talks to buy some time to get more ammunition, equipment & ships across

US Vice President Vance arrives in Islamabad

He is due to attend talks with Iran later today, alongside special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Imagine General Upendra Dwivedi and CDS Anil Chauhan welcoming Foreign dignitaries while Narendra Modi stood in a corner

It's crazy how comfortable people are with blatant military interference in Pakistani Politics.

Some anti India elements would have going gaga over it. :inti
