James Anderson 600 wickets countdown thread [Update Post #98]

Batsmen in 70s and 80s were lucky that Mcgrath and Steyn weren't playing back then.. Given the bowling friendly conditions back then, these two would have literally eaten the opposition alive.. I am genuinely shocked someone can even dare to compare Holding with these two!!!

You are solely focusing on quality factor here.. I already gave you example of Bond. Ryan Harris is another.. These two bowlers definitely have quality for an Atg player.. But in the end they couldn't maintain fitness level required..believe it or not that's also one of the requirement and skill of the pace bowler to maintain enough stamina so they can play and win games for their country.. Your claim that Holding didn't get more wickets because wi played less matches it simply inaccurate.. Both holding and garner missed several matches.. So they certainly had opportunities to do better.. But the fact remains they didn't.. Someone like Hadlee is certainly a legend because he maintained both quality and longevity throughout his career. The same reason why Mcgrath, Steyn, Akram will go go down as Atg because these players rarely skipped any matches. What you have done in your posts is to completely neglect the value of longevity.. Also it's in human nature to completely overrate past and undermine present.. Unfortunately things aren't that simple in life..

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/team/series_results.html?class=1;id=4;type=team

Here is the list of all test series for WI.. If you go through each series, you will notice Holding and Garner didn't participate in LOT OF matches. So the argument of "smaller number of Test teams and Tests played in the 1980s" is completely baseless. If they had fitness level of Hadlee, they could have done significantly better than just getting 250 wickets. They clearly had an opportunity..

Your arguments have been proven wrong. No cricketing expert would agree with your insane statement that Holding is not an all time great. The fact that you tried to use Bond and Harris as examples as to why Holding is not an atg is laughable in itself.

Batsmen in the 70's and 80's generally also had better defensive techniques than alot of modern batsmen. Plus Holding did not have the same oppurtunity to hammer the likes of Bangladesh, Zimbabwe etc.

Holding is certainly in the league if Mcgrath and Steyn, and any other atg bowlet for that matter. If you do not think Holding is an atg, and u find it laughable, then that simply means that most fans, ex players and experts who rank holding as one of the atg's are all wrong, and that u r right. Sorry but it does not work that way

You can tell anyone whatever you want to tell. It does not change reality.

It isn't human nature to overrate the past. In fact many younger fans automatically underrate past players and consider them to be inferior for no other reason other than they were older players.

I guarantee you that virtually no cricketing expert would agree with your claim that Michael Holding is not an all time great. That is one of the most absurd comments i have ever seen.

And your mention of Bond and Harris is laughable. Neither one of those guys reached anywhere near 250 or so wickets. So to make a comparison to Holding is a joke.

And no, as a test bowler, Holding is ahead of Mcgrath and maybe even Steyn.

Sometimes perception becomes reality :)

The best bowler in the world today and easily the greatest from England. He'll blow away this record and go on to get 500, you should have started the 500 wickets countdown thread

Trolling?

he's 32 so not getting to 500

Probably trolling, overselling it a bit.

400 is considered the ultimate and dream number for any bowler.. Anything over is the bonus..

Talk Nah ignorants :akhtar 500 milestone is not so ludicrous now is it :yk

i don't like him and think he is an average bowler at best but you have to respect what he has achieved

considering his fitness and easy action he can easily get 600 wickets but he will retire after the 2019 ashes so i guess he will get to 550 wickets at best

He'll definitely go passed Walsh (519 wickets) but I wonder if he can catch Glenn McGrath (563 wickets)? Will be a close call.

yep great achievement

hope he has one more year in him to make Kohli look like a tailender again next summer :akhtar

Made his test debut at Lords vs Zim in 2003. And barring something really unusual will get his 500th wicket at Lords.

Alrighty, 500 was a piece of cake ! onto 600 !

:jimmy :akhtar

He is certain to break Mcgrath's record and become the most successful fast bowler in HISTORY. Then, 600 will be a challenge but he will get that milestone to.

Oh Jimmy, Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy ANDERSON !

Breaking mcgras wicket tally really looks possible from here

What an achievement that should have been for a modern day fast bowler

His ATG status is arguable but for sure he will be remembered in history

Long live Jimmy

lol I never made a thread for '600' wickets
