The WICB today announced that all-rounder Jason Holder has been appointed West Indies One Day International Captain. The 23-year-old Holder takes over from Dwayne Bravo.
WICB thanked Bravo for his service to West Indies cricket in the capacity of the ODI Captain after taking over from Darren Sammy a year ago. The recommendation for transition of the captaincy role was made by the Clive Lloyd chaired Selection Panel and was approved by the Board of Directors.
Lloyd said that Holder’s appointment was with an eye to the future.
“Jason is one of the good, young players who we believe will form part of the long-term future of West Indies Cricket. We expect him to be around for a very long time. He is a young man with a very bright future. We have invested in him. He was part of High Performance Centre and he also played for the West Indies Under-19 Team and the West Indies A Team,” Lloyd said.

They were atleast better off with Sammy. The West Indies cricket is going nowhere. Cricket in general is going nowhere.

WTH !!! cant edit my post

Anyway its ridiculous to appoint captain with the World Cup just around the corner. Eng first (though morgan had some experience at least ) and now WI.

Holy hell! :)))

Windies board is trying to pull rabbits out of the hat. Apparently, the rabbits have all run away and the only thing left is the waste they have left behind.

Holder?! He is a decent bowler but captain? He's not even a regular in the ODI side iirc, has only played like 20 matches, how on earth did they make him the captain LOL

Holder?

Very surprising... I thought Sammy would have been better

Im sure jason holder only debuted last year.

And why not ramdin? Hes the test captain and seems to be in good form.

The whole of the Windies board is a complete mess. There is no doubt that Bravo is an idiot, who has no interest in playing for the Windies and deserves the sack but they have appointed a captain who can't even get into the team.

I actually think Holder is pretty talented and should be getting games.

But they're throwing him to the dogs.

West Indies cricket is destroyed by the IPL and other Money driven 20/20 leagues.

what? why? WI might fail to qualify for quarters i feel this time looks a lost unit

West Indies disintegration is hard to watch, no-one wants to play.

I like Holder but agree it's too early.

no now he plays for SRH.Bravo plays for CSK.:))

Once a csk guy always a csk guy unless you join the mindians.
Bravo has dissapointed sreeni by leaving the india tour halfway. So he is no longer the go to guy for sreeni.

I haven't followed WI cricket much recently. Then again, there's been nothing much to follow. Ever since the India series, WICB will be chasing their losses and trying to rebuild the damage they've inflicted upon themselves. Holder only has 21 games under his belt so he's under pressure here. Will he thrive? Only time will tell.

Certainly a good opportunity for Ireland

Best chance we'll ever get to qualify IMO.

Windies are in a mess and Pakistans batting unit could well be the same they fielded against NZ. Have to take this chance

Two example already why it can't be done.
Time for PCB to announce a young captain for the WC. Fawad or Asad Shqfiq.

Neither WI nor Pakistan, and not even England are going to win the WC so why not build for future and give the chance to a young prospect to lay down foundation stones for the 2019 WC?

Editing future have been turned off for over a month now lol. Holder kid has been appointed just for this series because the other players are busy playing BBL. This is just temporary.

WI poached a Canadian 150 KM/H bowler. He is originally from Guyana, but moved to Canada and played here for a long time but he was "provided" opportunity to play FC cricket in WI so he flew back after years. He is not on the 2nd Divisian icc league(whatever its called) squad.

Associate players must become mercenaries for IPL,BBL, CPL and BPL to inspire others to take out cricket. International cricket won't take us anywhere. Players will retire, the new ones may not be good as the ex players.

he is a fast bowler and injury prone i don't see him captaining well Sammy would have been a better choice

So Bravo has been sacked after what went on in India? Can't say I feel sorry for him. Good luck to Holder - he's going to need it.

If the players are behind him and supportive, then I don't see any problem with him being given the captains duty.

Its hard for fans to accept the fact that these players don't give a damn about West Indies since lets be honest is not really a country.

Dropping Pollard was fine.

Bravo and Sammy obviously has non performance reasons

No Bravo, Pollard for World Cup: Ramnarine

Abandoning the India tour has proven very expensive for Bravo and Co.

That's a bold step but not sure how effective it will prove to be !

9 overs 91 runs 0 wickets. Not a great start for the young captain.

Which genius appointed this guy as captain. Is this the most random appointment ever?

Simply absurd.

WICB. Truly gives PCB a run for their money.

They have effectively written off the promising career of one of their young up and coming stars by burdening him with captaincy and leadership at such a young age, just prior to the biggest stage of them all.

I feel for Holder.

An average bowler but this guy puts his heart out.
Everytime I see the match and he is bowling. :O
Fighting batsman too.

If he draws the series here that will be an achievement. Although I don't think he is tactically a good captain but I admire his fighting spirit and passion for West Indies.

He is a poor captain but a decent player. In fact, he has a lot of potential with the bat. Needs to give up his bowling to fulfill that potential though. In some ways, he is the opposite of Sammy, who is a poor player but a decent captain.

Seven overs left in India's chase.

Seamers have seven overs left.

Bowls off spinner Roston Chase to Indian batsmen and inevitsbly gets whacked. Simply not a captain.

Worst captain to ever lead a side closely followed by Azhar Ali.

Those who are calling Azhar Ali bad have probably never seen MoYo or Tendu captaining.

Defending 189 in 49.4 overs in modern cricket is unheard of. Albeit it was against a mediocre team in India. Anyways, Holder is a future ATG.
