Good to see positive attacking shots. Is he a proper englishman? Or som saffer blood here as well?

England have done well to back him.
You have to back a player once you identify him as a potential star ,not easy to hit the ground running straight away.

England have such talented batsmen. Including this guy. All of them matchwinners

Think this is a big point, how many other teams would have picked a guy averaging 13 @ 112 going into the tournament when they have an opener on the bench who averages 40+ in t20is and has a man of the series award in the only series he's played? Sure has payed off.

England have done it really well , buttler is another example.
I want pakistan to back sharjeel in limited overs cricket and work on his game , he has the hand eye coordination for modern cricket.

Some days he will come off some days he won't if he fires England will almost certainly win

On finals day in the Natwest T20 blast he made a rapid 50 for Surrey and watching him bat I was certain he would be a great asset to the limited overs England team should they select him but at the time England management lacked vision and were one dimensional, glad to see him get chances and deliver on the investment. England have always had the talent and at the grass root levels there are some very exciting prospects who do not play by the rule book entirely and their unorthodox ways have often been rejected but now they are encouraged and am so happy as an England fan

Haha anyone notice that when Freelance created thread Roy got out immediately? Then before this thread was merger with Freelances Roy got out a min later.

Guess we know how to get Roy out when he plays against us ;)

What has happend to this guy? I know he has been injured etc, but was looking at his recent form. In last 11 innings in all formats (int. and domestic) he has scored 118 runs in 11 innings. Very very poor average.

He goes hard from ball one, that is his job. As a result, he goes through these patches where things don’t work for him. It happened in 2017 as well during the Champions Trophy.

However, he is absolutely vital for England and that was obvious during the World Cup last year when England’s campaign looked dead when he was out injured, and their revival started only when he managed to get fit in time for the latter half of the World Cup.

I read Paddy Upton say recently that a number of quality players will struggle to cope with the reality of being in a bio-bubble and then to handle the pressure of performance in international sports. Could be a mix of that plus being rusty due to injuries etc for Roy.

Naturally attacking player so will have these purple patches

Roy will be backed in the same way Rashid is backed, both players are very positive / attacking - there are bound to be some troughs with their form but their peaks and impact largely outshine any lows. As Mamoon said Roy was pivotal to our world cup winning campaign and on the other hand Rashid put England in the world cup semi-final, if Morgan thought the way simple jobber folk like Rana does then England would be not be world champions.

I've always been a big fan of Roy, first time I saw him play was on finals day of the Natwest Blast and knew at that momet he had the X-Factor which England lacked at thr top of the door, I have no issue with him if he is coming from an injury or struggling for some form, this is the golden generation of England and cream rises to the top when required / we can afford to include such players in the XI and even Moeen despite him struggling in ODI's, we have options that's for sure and bench strength, most players from England B would be good enough to make Pakistan's 1st team

Roy is Gun. No questions asked, he should be backed. Rashid is good also, but that phainta by Maxi was beautiful

Maxi sounds like something his girlfriend would call him :yk and it wad the best knock he has ever played so fair play to him

It was a perfect knock at a time when people were shoving Rashid down our throats. A guy who has a history of being dispatched to the next postcode by Hafeez and Babar does not warrant a spot in the Pakistan side, I wouldn’t pick him over the Junior baller Shadab Khan

Amazing knock by Maxi. Maza aa gaya!

Shadab Khan didn't bowl his country to the World Cup final so what Babar or Hafeez are able to do to him is rather irrelevant / superficial, in ODI's there is no contest between the two, in fact Rashid is the greatest spinner for England in ODI's ever and the best in the world in that format as a spinner / more proven over a longer period, Shadab is a bit raw as it stands, he may edge him in T20's but beyond that his bowling seemingly had regressed for 50 over cricket so there's a long way to go for him. I would also pick Moeen Ali, Dom Bess, Jack Leach and also Joe Root over Shadab Khan as all rounders

He is still a quality player. He will come good eventually. I think some players will take a while to get back to their best after 6/7 months off. Australia attack is world class, you have to bare that in mind as well.

Jason Roy is a South African import so he will certainly become a great opener for England, right now just going through a lean patch.

He has technical weaknesses but in terms of his LOI hitting, he is up there with the very best, aesthetically very pleasing to eyes as well.

0.2 Mohammed Shami to Roy, FOUR runs
Shorter, wider, chopped fiercely past point! That's how Roy likes to roll, emphatic forearms, powered through the ball, and the fielder has no chance!

0.5 Mohammed Shami to Roy, FOUR runs
Solid and emphatic once more! It's been a fine over, but it's cost nine already, as Roy leans on a fuller length, full face through the line, and whistling through the covers.

7.5 Chahal to Roy, FOUR runs
Crashed with power through the covers! Waiting on the back foot, ready to pounce, and with a nugget of width he was ready to unleash those forearms

7.6 Chahal to Roy, FOUR runs
Contemptuous! Slower through the air from Chahal, a long way outside off too. But Roy read it from the hand, waited on one knee, and pounded it with glee through midwicket! This is a very promising sign for England.. :akhtar

10.5 Pandya to Roy, SIX runs
Launched over long-off! Does Roy believe his luck is in? He certainly plays this one with the freedom of the reprieved! A majestic clobber high into the stands!

13.1 Chahal to Roy, FOUR runs
Reverse sweep! Pinged through backward point to put the pressure on Chahal right from the start of the over ...

14.2 Kuldeep Yadav to Roy, FOUR runs
That is a stunning straight blow! One sighter is ample as Roy saunters to the pitch of the ball and lambasts a flat drive over the bowler's head!

16.5 Kuldeep Yadav to Roy, SIX runs
That is just thumped. THUMPED. Dances down the track, gets to the pitch and lifts this over the sight screen. Shredded

Virat Kohli: "Look every team has lost a a game here and there. No one likes to lose but you have to accept the other side played better"

Yeah, high quality South African batsmen :))

But he didn't smashed our best bowler, Bumrah, did he?

What a knock , basically he made more runs in these 3 overs then he did in his entire test career.

Jason Roy, the English opener, has set his eyes on PSL 10 draft. As he again wants to be part of one of the finest franchise cricket league in the world.
