Lillee and McGrath are automatic picks in a modern Australian all time XI.

Who will you pick as the third fast bowler among:

1. Thomson: 200 wickets in 51 tests at 28 avg and 52.6 SR
2. McDermott: 291 wickets in 71 tests at 28.63 avg and 56.9 SR
3. Gillespie: 259 wickets in 71 tests at 26.13 avg and 54.9 SR
4. Johnson: 313 wickets in 73 tests at 28.40 avg and 51.1 SR

I will personally take Gillespie who was very good in India.

How will you rank them?

1. Gillespie
2. Johnson
3. Thomson
4. McDermott

I am not sure for the last 3 - really tough to rate them; JG probably was distinctively better. One thing, I can tell that at their peak all 3 were really good, but they had consistency issue. MJ was almost unplayable in one Ashes, CJ was fantastic in between 1991-1994, while JT did better than his partner in 1974-75 Ashes, when he was fit.

I probably'll swap JT with MJ, 1 & 4 are fine.

I would choose Gillespie among them as third pacer , because he was more consistent.

Thomson ,
Johnson ,
Gillespie ,
McDermot .

I'd take Johnson- terrifying at his peaks and even when he was supposedly "bad" or underperforming he still took wickets- more than any English bowler in the entire series actually in England 2009 (20 across 5 tests) and the most of any Aussie bowler in 2010/11 at home (15 across 4 tests), which are supposed to his low points. And we all know about his highs. Many people forget he had two extended career peaks, not just THAT Ashes.

McGrath & Lillee were both economical and Warne could turn the screws. They provide control. I want Johnson there to take wickets & blast teams out & for the fear factor.

He also bats at #8.

To be frank it has to be Jason Gillespie. Extremely underrated bowler. Even though Johnson was a joy to watch in the 2013/14 Ashes and the SA tour which followed it, he was way too inconsistent for my liking.

Worth noting too that Johnson has 300+ Test wickets for a reason- more than any of these "more consistent" performers. That's rare for a real, express quick and worth noting for those who didn't really pay attention to most of his career and think he only popped up on their radar once- far more than a one series wonder.

Alan Davidson or Ray Lindwall.

None of your guys would even be considered.

Though with Keith Miller presumably in the side the question might be asked about whether or not going with a second spinner (O'Reilly) is the way to go.

Thomson.. Lillee- Thomson pairing was a pretty popular one. Tough to pick between those three. I dont even know about McDermott.

Bruce Reid could have been another contender. 113 wickets @ 24.63

Among the list, i'll go with Johnson because he is a left armer , bringing in more variety to the team.

RR Lindwall & DK Lillee
Miller makes the 3rd of the XI. If there is 4th pacer, Mac comes.

I think, it was a ranking between the 4.

Gillespie, then Thommo, then Billy, then Johnson.

But yeah, Lindy or Davo would walk in with Miller the all-rounder.

Not Keith Miller?

Personally will take Alan Davidson.

Keith Miller would be batting at 7 and make the team as an allrounder with Gilchrist at 6.

6. Gilchrist+
7. Miller
8. Davidson
9. Warne
10. Lillee
11. McGrath

With O'Reilly able to come in depending on conditions.

don't really think Cummins breaks into top 4 aussie pacers right now
