Jerome Taylor available for selection in Test Cricket after coming out of retirement [Update #9]

West Indies’ pacer, Jerome Taylor, has announced his retirement from Test cricket. The announcement came as soon as the West Indies squad was announced for the first Test against India. Taylor will not be available for the upcoming Tests against India, following his formal notification to retire from that format of the game. The 32-year old has however indicated his availability for the shorter formats. West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) have selected a 12-man squad for the first Test against India and will be led by Jason Holder. A lot of surprises have been made to their Test squad as big names like Dinesh Ramdin and Taylor missed the cut to feature in the series.

According to windiescricket.com, Taylor played 46 Tests for the West Indies and took 130 wickets. His best bowling figures are 6 for 47 against Australia at Sabina Park in 2015. The other three were against India, Pakistan and England. He has had four five-test wicket hauls in his 13-year test career. His top score was 106, batting at number 8 against New Zealand in 2008. He debuted versus Sri Lanka in 2003 and played his last international series in the longer formats for his national side against Australia in January 2016.

Taylor had an outstanding record against India and he was lethal in conditions favouring swing and pace. The home team is scheduled to play the series opener against India, led by Virat Kohli, from July 21 at Antigua. West Indies have been in terrific form in the shortest format but have to seriously pull up their socks in the longer format of the game and this series will be a vital step in trying to make inroads to their Test records.

I think WI not utilised him well along with Fidel Edwards (I really liked him) and Roach (?)(spray gun sometime). Can't see them even in franchise T20s these days. did they give up cricket altogether?

Edwards is still around playing county cricket for Hampshire (although broke his leg playing football so is out for most of this season), not sure about Roach but he was playing relatively recently if I remember correctly.

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Jerome Taylor has formally indicated to the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) that he has come out of retirement and is available for selection for Test Cricket. This decision means he is now available for selection in all three formats of the game.

Last July, the 32-year-old fast bowler had announced his retirement from the longest version of the game.

“I believe I still have a lot of cricket left in me and I know I can still offer a lot to West Indies cricket in the Test arena,” said Taylor. “If selected, I will look to put my best foot forward and give my all for the team. We have some young players in the group at the moment and I believe with my experience, I can add to the team going forward.”

Taylor has played 46 Tests, taking 130 wickets at 34.46 apiece, with best figures of 6-47 against Australia in June, 2015 on home soil at Sabina Park in Jamaica. He has also scored 856 runs, with a top score of 106 against New Zealand in December, 2008 at University Oval in Dunedin.

Chairman of the West Indies Cricket Board’s Selection Panel, Courtney Browne, welcomed Taylor’s decision to come out of retirement.

“It is good to see that Jerome has decided to come out of retirement and make himself available for Tests once again. When you look at the volume of cricket we have this year, we will need to look at all the resources we have available, and having someone of his ability and experience adds value to our player pool,” Browne said.

West Indies are preparing to face Pakistan in a three-match Brighto Paints presents Q Mobile Cup series, later this month (April 21 – 25), starting with the historic 50th Test at Sabina Park.

I love this guy, for me he had that old WI's spirit and did those guys justice at his absolute best was such a joy to watch, such a shame he never fulfilled his potential! I hate you WICB!

Bowled one of the best spells I've seen in recent times against Australia at Sabina Park in the summer of 2015. He was absolutely unplayable taking 6 for 50 or thereabouts on a flat pitch. However, as [MENTION=53290]Markhor[/MENTION] alludes above, Taylor was trundling by the time he toured Australia for the return leg 18 months ago. No clue if he was carrying a niggle which forced him to retire, but if he can regain some of that form it can only help the West Indies.

Saw him clock 144 two years ago and he was consistently at 137-140 when I last watched him, maybe he went down IDK.
