Jesse Ryder - Where is he?

Great innings? Give me a break. I counted 3 sixes where he would have been comfortably caught on the boundary but these 55M dimensions saved his cow slashing miss hits.

Pretty good innings. Helped by the school boy boundaries. Calling it a great innings though would be an insult to all the players around the world who have scored centuries in much harder conditions.

Edit: There you go. Mr Blobby couldn't clear 60m and is out.

No, all those sixes were in the gaps, which six did he hit over the boundary fielder?
It was always in the gaps

He is a Bhains. Would be a wonderful test for us to win this now. 300+ looks imminent, and I cant wait to see Razzaq and Afridi go after this target with straight boundaries less than 60 meters away.

corrected

yep.

Pity not backed up by the NZ batsmen apart from Guptil. They should stick with the order of this top 3 now New Zealand.

so if its that easy, pakistan should easily win this.. team full of pinch hitters, the mishits will go for sixes

i was watching it and then fell asleep.

all i remember we could have got this guy out twice

razzaq missed a catch, fair enough it caught him by suprise but the whole point razzaq was at leg slip was because of sohail tanvirs wayward bowling, so he was there anticipating the ball.
so he should have caught it.

also what i don't understand why he didn't put a better fielder catcher there. like ahmad shahzad. instead of razzaq who seems to be half asleep.

second time was when he wafted it into midwicket on the legside area into the air and younis khan and can't remember other fielder running in, yeh but younis khan should have done better to get into position. it was poor fielding not quick or sharp enough.

but either way i'm not to fussed about losing because i think stadium is a joke its not a cricket stadium, the drop in pitch, and boundary dimensions probably unsettled our bowlers couldn't get to grips with it.

either way if we had got jesse ryder out early , i reckon we would have won the match. but then again i only watched first 20 overs before dozing off.

In this game: McCullum 146 off 115, Taylor 138 off 171 and Ryder 175 off 137. 28 sixes between them, 16 to Ryder :)))

Jassi Bhaaji...kamaal karta!

I guess some of these Australians bowlers will be playing the test matches, right?

These Kiwis really produce some spanking stuff on their day

The 100 in 5 overs is still a fresh memory.

Steven Shane Warne Smith has a First Class bowling average of 50+. :31:

Mouth watering prospect, Sehwag's going to have a feast. I think selectors should make changes to the squad, bring on Yusuf Pathan and Suresh Raina i say :))

Once upon a time, Australia A would beat top teams for fun

Since there is no separate JR thread, could this thread title be edited to just 'Jesse Ryder' so that we can talk about him here only?

West Indies are fun on their day. Too inconsistent though but then so are New Zealand

Love West Indies though, they do produce entertaining Cricket in ODIs when Gayle, Bravo, Marshal etc are around:afridi

Barmy Army on JR :)))

They had a good hit out but it's the AB field with a flat pitch and very short boundaries.

Also we bowled mostly part timers to rest the quicks in the Test squad.

Nevertheless not a very good game for any of our bowlers and TBH none of the new bowlers deserve Test selection. MJ is probably gone for the summer too.

But have always said the fat man was quality. World class batter, would get into every team in the world.

He is the current Inzamam.Too much natural ability hindered by Adipose tissue :inzi

The great Man :D

@1137Moiz - haha thanks bro. Wouldn't be feeling bad for you even if you had negative stuff to say, all fun :yk

Not enough appreciation for this feat

The guy has equaled an FC record with his 16 sixes

New Zealand's hard hitting batsman, Jesse Ryder, made the most of the final day of the practise match against Australia 'A' at the Allan Border field smashing a quickfire 175 off just 137 balls which included 11 boundaries and 16 massive sixes.

Ryder equalled the FC record previously set by Andrew Symonds who had hit 16 for Gloucestershire against Glamorgan in 1995 and which was later matched by Graham Napier for Essex against Surrey this year.

"The boys were saying it's pretty close to a world record so it's disappointing to not break it," said the 27-year-old.

Ryder was eventually dismissed by Ed Cowan but not before dismantling the bowling attack on a smallish ground.

"You get that close to a milestone like that, you don't get many chances and it's quite disappointing," he said.

"But I'm pretty happy with the way I went today. I got a few out of the middle and scored a few runs, so I'm pretty happy with where I'm at."

This was the only practice game for New Zealand ahead of their two test series against Australia starting on Thursday, the 1st of December.

He is such a cute aloo :inzi

Beastly knock. Do that to the Aussies in the tests too.... after years and years of watching Australia dominate, its fun to watch when they take a beating :D

World Record....

Code:
16 A Symonds (254*) Gloucestershire v Glamorgan at Abergavenny 1995
16 GR Napier (196) Essex v Surrey at Croydon 2011
16 JD Ryder (175) New Zealanders v Australia A at Brisbane 2011/12
15 JR Reid (296) Wellington v Northern Districts at Wellington 1962/63
14 Shakti Singh (128) Himachal Pradesh v Haryana at Dharamsala 1990/91
14 DJ Hussey (275) Nottinghamshire v Essex at Nottingham 2007

I was expecting the world record to be in 20s :13:
How many did Lara hit in his 501?

Ryder must prove 'commitment to game' before selection - NZC chief

Jesse Ryder, the New Zealand batsman, is unlikely to be considered for a central contract or selected for the upcoming tour of the West Indies, according to David White, New Zealand Cricket's chief executive. White said that Ryder needs to prove his "commitment to the game" before he could be considered for national selection once again.

"No, I don't think so," White told Fairfax NZ News, responding to a question on whether Ryder's IPL form puts him into contention for the summer's tour to the Caribbean. "It is great that he is playing cricket again but he is a fair way from being considered for New Zealand.

"He needs to prove to the selectors and New Zealand Cricket his commitment to the game, and that means on and off the field. He needs to do a lot of work on a lot of things like fitness, attitude ... and be exemplary off the park."

Ryder has scored 217 runs in seven games for Pune Warriors so far, with two half-centuries. He had travelled to India for the IPL with a support structure consisting of his manager and clinical psychologist in place, coming off an 'indefinite break' from cricket that he had announced in March. That announcement came after Ryder was dropped from the New Zealand squad for the third ODI against South Africa for breaking team protocol and then left out of the Test series as well.

When Ryder had announced his participation in the IPL, White had extended his support. "It's really positive that Jesse has reached the point where here is ready to play competitive cricket again," he had said. "He has clear expectations from NZC in terms of what is required from him to make a return to international cricket and playing in the IPL is a good first step. We are proud of the progress he has made and we will continue to support him through what has been a tough time."

Ryder has had a history of disciplinary issues, prompting questions about his commitment to New Zealand cricket. Previously, in August 2010, he was fined for "intoxicated and rowdy" behaviour at a hotel during an indoor cricket tournament and he said he had feared for his career while NZC was investigating the incident. The most serious of Ryder's indiscretions was in 2008, when he put his right hand through a glass window during a late-night session at a Christchurch bar. In January 2009, NZC said Ryder had given up alcohol after another incident, which resulted in him missing an ODI against West Indies.

Great move I say.

1) Dropped

2) Say you need an indefinite break from cricket due to a "deeply stressful and emotional time".

3) Decide to go to the IPL 3 weeks later.

Yeah, they just don't need him around the team. It creates a poor culture to bring players into. I notice last time he was in trouble he was out drinking with Doug Bracewell- exactly the opposite of the kind of guy you want talented youngsters hanging out with.

The last commitment he had was with a bottle. Fortunately he quit but is still not the prime athlete, it's almost like he doesn't care and just enjoys whatever life brings him.

"commitment to the game"

Hmmm - don't think this features in the requirements of a player in the PCB vocabulary.

I admire the NZ Board's strict approach when it comes to behavioral issue. When they are willing to leave out a talent like Ryder because of his discipline issues, we get an idea how important attitude is to them.

Unfortunately we have users here crying to get Shehzad into the team appealing to 'ignore' his attitude issues and just focus on his 'talent'. We can learn from NZ and we should acknowledge that attitude will always trump potential talent.

Trouble seems to find Ryder. Talent wasted. NZ would be better off grooming another one.

Self imposed exile. Would be useful vs India but NZC won't pick him yet and Ryder himself doesn't want to be picked.

He will play FC cricket this summer though.

Every country has a KP it seems except India and South Africa.

He got into trouble after a one-dayer vs South Africa in Napier - along with a teammate Doug Bracewell, they charged down taunting fans in a restaurant or something after a tough loss. He was suspended for that incident and after his return got into a fight with a domestic player in a game - Harry Boam and then got drunk again. After that he took his psychologist to India for the IPL and apparently didn't drink in India and is now 'on a break from cricket'.

He wouldn't have helped matters. He is just as bad at facing spin bowling as the rest of them. KWill and Rosco are our best hopes but even they get bogged down every now and then. As for Baz, he needs a brain transplant to come up with the goods.

What happened to Jesse Ryder?

His stats are very impressive and he was a gun New Zealand player? Did NZ give him the Andrew Symonds treatment after getting sick and tired of his drinking problems, indisciplined lifestyle and always getting into trouble?

He’s kinda like NZ Sharjeel or should say Sharjeel is PAK Ryder.

Both a bit plump, talented left handed openers, threw away their careers for nothing.

I think he actually actively removed himself from selection consideration for NZ & NZ A tours more than once over the last few years- preferring the lower profile of FC cricket.

His recovery from lifelong alcohol problems is always ongoing & fragile it seems. He just hasn't wanted to put himself in situations where he is without his support network & placed under stress & loneliness etc as he has let himself & nation down so many times. It's a pattern he just wants to break out of.

Just a lost talent to international cricket but I can't blame him too much, there's plenty of people out there with rough upbringings & alcohol issues & he decided that pressure isn't good for his health in that regard.

When you look at some of the shots he played, the quickness of his eyes and hand moments, his wrist work....u think what a massive talent was lost out there....in indian terms i guess people like L siva....would be a close comparison.... or maybe srisanth.......i guess its depression, loneliness, and then the stress a high profile person is placed under...not everyone can handle this........i was a fan of his...i wish him welll

He was playing for the NZ indoor cricket team recently and still playing club cricket.

None of NZs domestic teams offered him a contract last season

Always loved the way Jesse Ryder played. Thought he would make a wonderful career as a T20 freelancer. A huge loss to international cricket for sure. Still 34, not that old also.

Hasn't played for NZ in over 5 years, hasn't even played any proper domestic cricket since March last year (according to his cricinfo profile).

He was involved in a huge brawl 4 or 5 guys attacked him beat him up with rods and he barely survived that horrific incident could barely recover from that playing cricket is another thing
