So this Kanhaiya Kumar is still studying in JNU? He is 33 years old for Satan's sake
How can any educational institution let someone continue in the university for that long? Seriously shameful.
Everyone may not be fortunate enough to achieve education at a younger age. Considering the way he came up from that remote village in Bihar and gained a Phd from JNU is itself commendable. Way better than Modi and his andhbhakts.

Which is fair but why is it that PHD students of STEM fields never indulge in politics.. but someone doing a Phd MPhil in African studies has already fought an election on CPI ticket?
Not doubting he might be smart but there are various flaws in his arguments that he is put forward from Education is a right and not a privilege (for PHD) to his views on economy.
I dislike the BJP as much as him but would never in my right mind think CPI is the answer.

He has completed his PhD. This is a story the BJP likes to sell you about him, as if studying is a crime. Well actually, the consistent aim of the BJP has been to reduce education and corrupt existing universities. So it's in line with their thinking. His hometown and constituency Begusarai has had a strong Commie presence for years. The previous election, the margin of defeat was quite close. This time BJP had a thumping victory over him despite his greater popularity compared to the previous Commie contestant. It's a mystery you know
He needs a party right now. I see him going independent in the future. Might even join Nitish Kumar if the latter shakes off the BJP.
That is the problem in our politics right now. I don't want to undermine non-STEM folks because there are quite a few brilliant minds there specially in Economics and Law, but by and large the majority of intellect is channelled to STEM in our society (again that's where jobs and money is, so can't blame), as such lot of students who can think critically, act decisively and lead initiatives are engulfed in corporate life and society does not get much out of them. That is also one of the reasons why our politics is so impoverished of real bipartisan leaders and intellect at this juncture.

Kanhaiya was in sparkling form in this one and pretty much destroyed that guy.
The BJP dude backed off from this statement a few seconds later and said it was rhetorical and that he meant law and order would take its course should Kanhaiya not 'mend his ways'.
But it's amazing how things have changed in the last 5 years. Someone can say this on air and we just shake our heads and move on. During the same debate, an ABVP/BJP buffoon in the audience started shouting "Godse Zindabad". He calmed down when Kanhaiya mocked him and said "Take his photo".
But still - everyone just moved along. And nothing will come of it.

Guys like this are symptomatic of a lot of current-BJP supporters. They just don't think things through. On the one hand they despise Gandhi for giving in to the two-nation principle and by default therefore support Godse. On the other hand, they find it difficult to breathe with 14% Muslims around them. And yet, don't seem to think what their state would be with even more Muslims around. Unless of course, they believe that all Hindu-Muslim problems are a result of partition and we'd have been all skipping along hand in hand had it not happened.

The recent attack on students at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has drawn condemnation from all walks of life throughout the country and even the sports fraternity seemed to be affected by the horrific incident. As soon as former India cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his support for the ongoing protests in Mumbai which were organized for showing solidarity with the JNU students, Olympic bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt also joined the debate.
“Well done Mumbai!,” Manjrekar had retweeted a post which showed images from the protest organised at the Gateway of India.
In response, Dutt quoted a photograph from the same protest which showed a girl holding a ‘Free Kashmir’ placard and questioned Manjrekar: “This is also the truth of the same procession. Sanjay Manjrekar what do you have to say about such people?”
The image of the girl has gone viral across social media platforms and a number of people have raised strongly objected to it.
Earlier, India captain Virat Kohli had insisted that he doesn’t want to be irresponsible while speaking on the sensitive Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which has radical opinions on both sides.
“On the issue, I do not want to be irresponsible and speak on something that has, you know, radical opinions both sides. I need to have total information, total knowledge of what it means and what is going on and then be responsible to give my opinion on it,” Kohli had said on Saturday.
Widespread protests have been witnessed across the country over the CAA which provides a path to Indian citizenship for Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian religious minorities that had fled persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan before December 2014 but leaves out Muslims from its ambit.

JNU Seeks Security Report On Clash Between 2 Groups

After a scuffle broke out between two groups of students on the campus, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) authorities have instructed the security branch to take necessary steps and submit a detailed report on the incident.
The scuffle that broke out near the Narmada hostel on Thursday was a fallout of events that unfolded at a birthday party a day before.
Police have registered two separate FIRs in connection with the incident. According to police, two students were injured in the scuffle, while university sources claimed that only one student sustained injuries.
In a statement issued on Thursday night, the JNU administration reiterated its resolve for zero tolerance towards any form of violence on the campus and appealed to the students to desist from resorting to violence.
"It has come to the notice of the university authorities that a scuffle between two groups of students broke out on campus due to personal animosity. JNU authority has taken a serious view of the matter and has instructed the Dean of Students and the security branch to take necessary steps and submit a detailed report on the incident," the university said.
Video clips purportedly of the incident were circulated on social media platforms, in which some students were seen running on the campus with sticks in their hands.
In one of the clips, students wearing masks were seen with sticks. One of them was wearing a JNU sweatshirt. Police said they will verify the authenticity of the videos.
The university sources as well as police said no political groups were involved in the incident.
The university has witnessed several instances of violence in the recent years involving Left-affiliated student outfits and the RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
In April, two groups of students clashed at the Kaveri hostel allegedly over the serving of non-vegetarian food in the mess on Ram Navami.
On January 5, 2020, a mob of masked men and women stormed the campus and targeted students in three hostels. At least 28 people, including JNU Students' Union president Aishe Ghosh, were injured as chaos reigned on the campus for nearly two hours

"Battle Has Been Tough": Ex JNU Student Umar Khalid's Father After Son Gets Court Relief
New Delhi: "The battle has been quite tough but we are positive about getting justice", said father of JNU student Umar Khalid who was discharged in a case related to the 2020 northeast Delhi riots.
Expressing hope that his son will be released from jail soon, S Q R Ilyas said Umar has been putting up a brave fight.
A court discharged Umar Khalid along with United Against Hate founder Khalid Saifi in a case related to the riots.
The FIR in the case was registered on the basis of the statement of Constable Sangram Singh who said a riotous mob had pelted stones on Main Karawal Nagar Road, besides setting ablaze several vehicles in a nearby parking lot on February 24, 2020.
Khalid is accused in several other cases and facing charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with the larger conspiracy behind the riots and these matters are pending in court.
The duo will continue to remain in jail as both have not received bail so far in the case related to the larger conspiracy of Delhi riots registered under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Ilyas said.
"By the grace of Almighty Allah and due to the continuous and exemplary efforts of senior advocate Triderp Pais and his team, Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi has been discharged in the Delhi riot case of FIR 101.
"Let us hope they will also be discharged in FIR 59/2020. We are very happy that he has been discharged. We are positive that he will be discharged from the other court as well," Ilyas told PTI over phone.
He said the "battle has been quite tough.
"The charges against him (Khalid) have been fabricated and we are very hopeful that he will be out of the jail soon. My son has been quite tough and has always consoled us whenever we visited him. Meeting him was very difficult because of the charges levied against him," he added.
Special Public Prosecutor Madhukar Pandey confirmed that Khalid and Saifi were discharged in the matter by the court of Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala.
The Karawal Nagar police station had registered an FIR against both accused along with others under various provisions of the IPC, including rioting and criminal conspiracy along with the sections of the Arms Act and the Prevention of Damage to Property Act.
The investigation of the case was later transferred to the Crime Branch.

Delhi Court To Pass Order On Umar Khalid's Bail Plea On Dec 12
A Delhi court on Wednesday reserved its verdict on an interim bail plea of former JNU student Umar Khalid who is an accused in a 2020 northeast Delhi riots case.
Khalid has moved the plea seeking two-week interim bail for his sister's marriage.

Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat will pass the order on December 12. During the hearing, counsel for Khalid cited various judgments where the accused booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) were granted interim bail.
However, opposing the bail plea, Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad said that most of the judgments which were relied upon were not relevant as they were not for the grant of interim bail, rather they were for the grant of custody parole or interim custody bail because of the peculiar circumstances involved.
“The cases relied upon where interim bail was granted were (because of) very exceptional circumstances and such circumstances do not exist here,” he said Prasad said Asif Iqbal Tanha (an accused under UAPA) was granted interim custody bail for appearing in an exam, while Natasha Narwal (another UAPA accused) was granted interim bail on the grounds that she was the only person to perform the last rites of her father.
He further opposed the bail plea on the ground that Khalid's application had mentioned three dates for the marriage ceremony, i.e, from December 26-28, but the bail was sought for 14 days, from December 20 to January 3.
“There is thus no ground for grant of interim bail… With regards to the admitted position in the application, an extraordinary demand has been raised…” the special public prosecutor said.
Earlier, Delhi Police had opposed Khalid's bail plea, saying he was facing serious charges under the UAPA and that he was likely to spread misinformation by use of social media during his interim bail period, which could cause unrest in society.
Khalid was booked under the anti-terror law UAPA and provisions of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly being a mastermind of the February 2020 riots, which had left 53 people dead and over 700 injured. The violence had erupted during the protests against CAA and NRC.
Khalid was arrested by Delhi Police in September 2020.
