Joker Origin Movie (2019) — possible sequel now announced…

I watched movies like John Wick, The Hateful Eight, Django Unchained etc.

Both The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained are 5 times better than this overrated Joker.

I also found John Wick more entertaining than Joker.

Clearly u like action flicks. Doesnt mean joker is not masterpiece.

Lol hateful 8 was a terrible movie. Django was great.

Not everyone can get into a drama.

Brilliant film - didn't want it to end.

Phoenix's acting was superb, he played the role brilliantly.

The storyline was very interesting and the only part of the story that zi thought was a bit OTT was the tv appearance by The Joker.

*SPOILERS*

Lol at people calling this a masterpiece. Expected so much more based on the trailer. I truly believed that I would leave the cinema feeling sympathy for the character and with an understand of his motivations. That this was the story of a young man with a good heart who has been deeply wronged by society which led him to transform into this evil maniac. But no the character is just a psychopath loser with no justification for his actions. You take a gun to a children's hospital and you are surprised that you are fired from your job? A talk show host mildly roasts you, you become viral, he invites you to the show, treats you nicely and you murder him? Ok granted your mother was negligent while raising you but you, as a mentally-ill person, don't realise that your mother is mentally-ill herself or appreciate the fact that she adopted you after you were abandoned and you murder her?

On a separate note, how does his mother still get to keep custody of him after her neglect is reported in the newspaper? Randall appeared to be genuinely looking to help Arthur when giving him the gun, why did he lie about Arthur buying the gun from him - like why would you involve yourself at all? So after he wrongs him and knows/suspects that he is a murderer why does he go to visit someone with a reason to harm him? Why did the little person accompany him? Only so that the director can put in some little person jokes? So many plotholes in the film.

Neither the mental health angle nor the social commentary on poverty and inequality was explored with any sort of sincerity. In fact the film portrays the working class as savages who would support the murder of three young men - just because they happen to be rich/privileged - and embrace the murderer as their hero. It would make some sort of sense if the story that those three guys were trying to molest the girl on the train and Arthur acted in defence of her and himself (which he didn't) became public that led to him becoming this symbol of protest. But no they went with this nonsensical angle.

With that being said great acting by Joaquin but he is let down by some terrible writing. I can see why this would be a masterpiece for the simple-minded but it is a let down for people looking for more substance.

While Heath Ledger's Joker and Arthur Fleck are two different characters I have to say I preferred Ledger's portrayal better probably because he had a solid screenplay and a legendary director to support him which Phoenix unfortunately didn't have. A true missed opportunity.

It was good but masterpiece are movies which we regard as the greatest in history, I wouldn't put this in that bracket personally but feel it will age well given that it's not something which has been done before on this scale so the critical acclaim has been largely mixed; a very marmite release, people either give it overwhelmingly positive reviews or negative.

Outside the reviews and how folk feel about it, the box office numbers have been excellent; they have broken a decent amount of records for an October release and R-Rated movie. Warner Bros and DC will be pleased and encourage further releases of a similar kind to the "Elsworld" comics which go beyond the sanctity of the DC comic book universe.

68% on Rotten tomatoes and 58% on Metacritic is pretty accurate for this average movie

End game has 94% on RT and 78 score on Metacritic; this isn't anywhere near as insulting. Reviews can give a decent overview but not the best reflection in every case, this release is like marmite which is why the ratings are closer to the middle; there was a similar reaction to The Shining and criticism when it came to the slow pace for a horror which was atypical in those days and also how badly the novel was adapted but with time it aged well, in a similar sort of way many familiar with the Joker character would never expect an adaptation of this kind and it's not something which has been done before with a villain who has enjoyed so much heat.

I meant that in this specific case I agree with the review scores since I have watched the film

My sentiments exactly.

It's a mess full of contradictions, although ******* won't care about this.

It's not about mental health
It's not about Joker
It's not about a descent to madness
It's just a confusing mess with wild changes in tone and pathetic humour. Especially that dwarf scene.

The latest generation of movie goers are only fascinated with CGI.

Joker is a dialogue movie, and a brilliant one at that.

Lol.

Show me one decent conversation from the film that's iconic.

Let me guess, you're prolly gonna say the 3rd act when Murray and "Joker" are ranting like kids about larger-than-life issues. Such a thoughtful topic reduced to cliche movie tropes.

Movies are subjective. Fact. You clearly didn't like the Joker movie, who cares? I am not going to convince you otherwise.

I was merely pointing out that the latest generation of movie goers are more impressed with CGI than dialogue. Your reaction proves this.

Next time watch a movie with subtitles. It will bring an entire new meaning to a movie.

I think people in general are guilty of over-analyzing these days. They watch a movie with the intention of finding plot-holes instead of appreciating the script and the quality of acting. Is the writing lazy and convenient at times? Of course, but it is the same for every movie.

TDK is the most revered Batman movie of all time, but you can point out 3-4 instances of convenient, mediocre writing and in the opening bank robbery sequence alone. However, that does not change the fact that it was a brilliant movie.

You have to judge a movie by its strong points rather than overly focusing on the things it could not execute with perfection.

Joker is a worth a second watch in my view, but not in a theater. I think this movie would be provide a better experience in an isolated environment with pin drop silence.

The film deserves the IMDb ratings and ranking as a top ten film of all-time.

My favourite scene was when the Joker spared the minion. The lead up to it was the perfect portrayal of the Joker.

One of the greatest movies I have ever watched. The little speech which Joker game to Murray in the end gave me goosebumps. The last 20 minutes of the movie are just insane filled with the finest display of acting I have ever seen. The whole movie is packed with lines which will be quoted for a very very long time.

I think the timing of the movie is perfect, considering all the deserved emphasis that mental health issues are getting these days and how the difference between the privileged and the less fortunate is increasing globally.

Joker is easily better than Avengers: Endgame which I thought was a step down from Infinity War.

‘Joker 2’: Lady Gaga in Early Talks to Join Joaquin Phoenix, Todd Phillips in Musical Sequel (Exclusive)</b>

<I>If a deal is made, Gaga would play Harley Quinn.</I>

The Joker is back, and this time he’s bringing a friend.

Lady Gaga is in early talks to star opposite Joaquin Phoenix in director Todd Phillips’ sequel to Joker, the Oscar-winning, $1 billion-grossing, 2019 Warner Bros. hit based on the DC villain.

Phillips has been writing the script with Joker co-writer Scott Silver for some time and has finally shown it to the studio.

Last week, Phillips revealed on social media the title of the new project — Joker: Folie à deux — referencing a medical term for an identical or similar mental disorder that affects two or more individuals, usually members of the same family.

And while the same social media post showed Phoenix reading the script, the actor’s involvement is not exactly a fait accompli just yet — sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Warners has yet to close a deal with the actor, with the two sides deep into it.

Enter Gaga.

Details on her character are being kept under wraps, but Joker is known for his on-off abusive relationship with Harley Quinn, his psychiatrist at the Arkham Asylum mental institution who falls in love with him and becomes his sidekick and partner in crime.

It is unclear whether Phillips and company are using other DC characters or striking out on their own, as they did in many instances with the first movie.

If a deal makes, Gaga would play Quinn. However, this new Quinn exists in a different DC universe than Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, who most recently appeared in 2021’s The Suicide Squad as well as several other films.

But wait, that’s not all: Sources say the sequel is also a musical.

When Warners first made Joker, it was far from a sure thing.

A dark and moody character piece, the project was a Taxi Driver-meets-King of Comedy descent into madness set in a late 1970s decaying city.

Commercial prospects were deemed nominal, and it was only budgeted at $60 million.

By the time it was released in October 2019, Joker was riding a wave of adulation from the fall film festivals, which helped propel the movie into a record-breaking opening weekend, with box office analysts changing their prediction every day.

It ended its theatrical run as the No. 4 highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.

It then earned 11 Oscar nominations, including best picture, and won best actor (for Phoenix) and best score (for Hildur Gudnadottir).

Phillips previously produced A Star Is Born, the 2018 remake that starred Joker producer Bradley Cooper and Gaga.

Sounds… strange!

Word is Tod Phillips didn’t want to do the sequel. Either he gives zero fudges and has accepted this because they threw too much money at him or he’s a creative genius. Many criticised how he ripped off Taxi and KOC, this could be a retort for those guys to.

This is very very interesting though, it could be a sort of dark horror oriented musical in the ilk of Sweeney Todd, the Joker’s origins are fascinating and this could work but will require shrewd execution

Director Todd Phillips unveiled a new image of his film Joker 2 featuring Joaquin Phoenix all alone in rainy Gotham City.

In order to mark the one-year countdown of the anticipated musical sequel of Joker titled Folie a Deux, the film’s director Phillips dropped a fresh new poster of the titular character, essayed by Phoenix, on social media, which features him standing alone in the rain amid the vibrantly colored umbrellas.

The OP simply wrote the date in the caption of the picture, along with acknowledgements from fans and supporters. Thanks for all the messages. Four years ago, we had quite a ride. Lots of great memories. More to come,” he teased.
Earlier, in April this year, he also updated the eager fans on the completion of the shoot. With the two-picture gallery of the lead cast, fully immersed in their iconic characters, The Hangover director announced, That’s a wrap. Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer. From top to bottom.

Gonna crawl into a cave now (edit room) and put it all together, Phillips added.
It is worth mentioning here that Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as the titular character in the upcoming sequel, while the actor and popstar, Lady Gaga has been roped in to essay his co-conspirator, Harley Quinn.

Zazie Beetz and Brendan Gleeson also feature in the Todd Phillips directorial in pivotal roles, whereas Hildur Guðnadóttir has composed the score for the musical sequel to the American psychological thriller.

Joker: Folie a Deux is set for theatrical release on October 4, 2024.
