Junaid Khan: First impressions

This is what I wrote in the match thread, I guess this is a better place to post it:

Junaid Khan looks a bit nervy. I've liked what I've seen though; energetic, gets a bit of movement at a nippy pace. Stalks back to his mark Alan Donald style

Looks a bit like Wahab Riaz - not extremely talented but very keen to do well.

He's a good cricketor a bit like Mohammad amir

He's nowhere near Amir's level - infact I doubt there will be any bowler who will be near Amir's class.

Judging from his bowling in the 1st ODI...

His line and length seems fairly accurate - he seems to rely too much on his swing which is why he keeps conceding wides as he doesn't get the swing consistently.

He's a natural swing bowler which gives us a indication that he could suceed under forecast, ideally the tour of Ireland will be the best place for him and his style of bowling.

Seems to lack confidence but he will gain confidence once he starts playing more and more - I'd be gutted if he doesn't get a wicket, but it's not all about wickets although it'll do him wonders, still early days.

He could definitely do with some bulking up. Hitting the gym and developing some muscles in the shoulders, arms, back did Wonders for Gul and he automatically went up from 132 km/hr to 150 km/hr in a years time. Consistent bowling helped too. Hopefully Waqar can reproduce the same magic with Junaid Khan as well.

He seemed okay. Not that bad, but not that impressive either. Or maybe I just had my hopes too high up :D

Seems like a very good bowler must say. A bit to early to judge but I like his natural angle.. hopefully he can develop a inswinger.. although I must say, the pitch had NOTHING for the fast bowlers.. so top job.

try sadaf next time, select the best talented ones

try the riaz through out series, only because he did well in semis, if he picks up rythm again then go for him or drop him

abt junaid, he looks pretty ordinary but cant tell from day one, why not play tanvir ahmed??, but he looks ordinary, now i know why he wasnt told to bowl during the WC

An average bowler, wonder why he was selected, Sohail Khan was more deserving but he is from Karachi !!

lol at the people who are saying he is ordinary.. shameless brainless fans.

bowled well without any luck today, on another day he would have taken at least 2 wickets.

uses the new ball properly, which is a big plus.

Way to go attacking the fans who don't agree with you :19:

pretty brainlesss

evident for all to see it was a very good batting track...kemar roach got destroyed by hafeez  says plenty about the pitch

bowled very well today...just didnt pick up a wicket

so i think him calling the fans brainless is justified

Good, but I think he's more suited for tests. Hopefully he gets a shot at that

2 wickets for Junaid Khan now. He's more dominant in conditions where it suits his style of bowling and where it suits bowlers in general. Interesting to see whether he produced in and out swinging deliveries.

So far so good. Let's hope he keeps it up! :14:

Apparently swung the last ball a little bit back into Cusack (right hander) to bowl him. GOOD SIGNS :amir

He is indeed swinging the ball. :O

From Cricinfo...

Junaid Khan to Porterfield, no run, great delivery just came in a bit and knocked over Porterfield middle stump.

Brilliant. :14:

junaid is a wonderful and aamer also showed his talent in englsh conditions so junaid could also be a great

Now, why would you not have him bowl with the new ball?

Well done Junaid on his best bowling performance so far for pakistan!

cant be sure if the one that came in swung in the air or of the pitch..if its of the pitch

Pakistan need to persevere with this young guy. He has such raw talent, but he seems like the sort of player who will grow slowly. Nothing bad about that, some of the best were of that mold (McGrath springs to mind). I just hope Pakistan fans show a bit pf patience with Khan.

That's going to be a major problem for the specific Pakistani fans who seem to lack patience.

Cricket has changed alot over the past years, and it has also changed in terms of developing a youngster. Before Pakistani fans expected a youngster to make a instant impact and give him only 2-3 chances at International level.

But now it's vital youngsters are given "run of games or even series" so they can adapt to the right format and are given time to establish themselves and show what they are all about.

Junaid has raw talent like you mentioned, only way to see that consistently is too see him being given constant chances and fans showing patience and belief in him.

got more wickets today yeowwww :hamster:
