Justice for Mukhtar Ahmed: why are Shan Masood and Imam-ul-Haq batting before him?

There was an interesting stat on the PCB live stream during the CP and Northern match.

Babar has achieved 6 T20 hundreds in 186 innings. Mukhtar Ahmed has scored 3 T20 hundreds in 46 innings!!!

The guy is clearly a T20 opener and regardless of his technique or whatever, he can score runs and go big! But why is he not featuring in this tournament yet we are being fed with players like Imam ul Haq and Shan Masood as openers? There are also accumulators like Banglazai and Rohail Nazir getting a go ahead, but they are young so maybe he can be excused. But maybe not?

He played decently in KPL as well. However, I think his 2nd XI performances before the start of national T20 let him down as he scored 3, 4, 5, 8, 4 and couldn’t get to double figures.

He can be really good in T20s but, one thing I am slightly disappointed in is that he hasn’t improved as well as one would have hoped after he got his T20I debut few years ago.

However, still one of the few naturally aggressive openers around.

I would take this guy failing over Imam and Masood scoring 40 off 35 any day of the week!

Yes they both have been poor. Masood with some PSL runs followed by KPL made himself a starter here however is struggling till now.

Imam just isn’t developing his game for the format at a decent pace and has been pretty poor so far in Nat T20.

But there is absolutely no long term gain with Imam or Masood developing their game whatsoever. T20 Cricket is getting faster and faster. Imam will never develop into a 180+ strike rate opener in his career. So why are the PCB pushing him so much?

List A average of 43 at a strike rate of 91

T20 average of 28 at a strike rate of 143

Tell me again, why is this guy not good enough for this competition??

I would rather cry about khurram manzoor. The injustice he has faced is much worse

He's a proper slogger. Not good enough for international cricket IMO but should deffo be bossing it in domestics and should be playing in every game.

But this isn’t an international competition

His numbers do not lie! He is definitely a better option than Imam and Shan at least!

Yeah he should be a domestic king, showing his talent at home with the potential of playing in BPL,SPL,CPL etc.

He is being benched for guys who will never be t20 players.

They are ruining his career and potential livelihood.

What a disastrous innings by Shan Masood

When is Ramiz Raja going to correct this?

That guy has no business being even near the team.

Hes a good one day player. He avgs in the high 50s, yet he has always been ignored. He only got his chance back in 2008-2009 and after that was never considered.

Was selected in Asia Cup 2016 (T20 version), made embarrassment of himself against likes of Bhuvneshwar, Mustafizur, Mashrafe, Some Sri lankan bowlers.
Was not able to get behind the line of Swinging balls and was missing balls like a tailer ender.
Since then he has not been considered in any squad.
I think he was selected in wrong format at that time, he had a great potential as an One Day Batsman.
