What does it have to do with Indian Economy? I am truly baffled. Please help me understand

very stupid logic but i get his thinking

usually a growing economy means less malnourishment among youth allowing them to move closer to their potential in terms of size and height.

However this process takes 2-3 generations and at most a couple of inches gained.

Guy is off his rocker to think that a 15 year period of sustained growth leads to 4 inches of growth lolol.

to add to this: also by any metric Indian economy isnt at an advanced stage at this point. I highly doubt the elite and upper middle class are the the ones forming core of new young cricketers to whom this applies anyways

Does it even happen? Its a bit far fetched i think. The japs and koreans are generally short, look at their economy.

Thank you. Precisely my point

Didn't say he is like Agarkar - just his career would be pretty good if it were like Agarkar's is what I said.

Having a great career despite being short is more of an exception than a rule. I would love for him to have a great career. We have for long awaited fast bowlers.

Shami at 5' 8'' is our best fast bowler ever.Even Hassan Ali isn't that tall.If Nagarkoti can maintain this speed and move the ball at that pace, he would be a handful to anyone in the world. And to be an exception, how many U-19 kids have you seen bowl 148 kph and then fields like a livewire. He is a physical freak for sure.

why is there prevalence of so much 140k+ bowlers in India now when there were hardly any in 90s and till even mid 2000s?

has telecast of domestic tournaments resulted in speedsters getting attention? Surely it cant be a case of there being no one consistently over 133k+ before and then half a dozen or so 140k range bowlers emerging all of a sudden

Indian cricket’s shift from the big cities to the small towns - from an elite sport to a sport for the masses has been the main reason behind the emergence of fast bowlers. There was a time when the majority of the cricketers came from Delhi and Mumbai, but there has been considerable effort by BCCI to move to smaller towns to tap the talent there. Just to give you an example, when India defeated England in an away series in 1971 for the first time, there were as many as six Mumbai players in the 11. When India won the World Cup at Wankhede in 2011, there was just one Mumbai player, Sachin Tendulkar.

If you look at the recent fast bowlers to have played for India and the upcoming fast bowlers, most of them are from "chhote sheher". And of course with the advent of IPL and the possibility of a secure future, parents nowadays are not that averse to the idea of their kids trying their luck in cricket.

I agree. But I corrected my assumption to say he was not short (5' 8" is an ok height, not short). My point was that if you are wiry, you need to have your core and body strong to continue to bowl fast. Marshall was strong, and he was not short, he was 5' 9" (only looked relatively short due to him being surrounded by Holding, Roberts and Garner).

I'll add to what the others have said.

Better nutrition standards. More people from smaller towns/ rural areas getting involved.

Most important - Money/paisa/piso/naava/cash/nakad/ Rupiya.

Fast bowlers, even if they don't get selected for India, are also earning crores from the IPL. And right now it's almost easier to make a name as a fast bowler, as the competition for spinning slots was traditionally so much higher.

Nagarkoti doesn't seem all that impressive. Has a long way to go before he can break into the senior team. Will get bashed around for fun by international batsmen.

He will not be easy to hit around. A 145k skiddy bowler is very tough to hit.

Nagarkoti has an excellent Yorker too. He gets the ball to move into the batsman and he attack the stumps.

Hope he gets a game in IPL.

Nagarkoti looks better right now, but I believed Shaheen has more potential. Shaheen needs a better bowling IQ and control.

Dunno why but he reminds me of Bilawal Bhatti. Skiddy bowlers who are short get ripped apart at international level. I hope I'm wrong though, international cricket needs genuine pacers.

Shaheen has a much higher ceiling in my opinion.

Hoping that he turns into a Nightmare for batsmen at IPL, sort of blows away batsmen with his yorkers and finishes season with 25+ wickets.

too much expectations, I mean he is good but......

Well i said i am hoping, what's wrong with that, i know it may look like a kid dreaming but there is nothing wrong with it, i am optimistic about it.
You may call me an Optimist, you Pessimist :yk

Shami and Hasan are short but doing pretty well.

Nagarkoti seems to be the better and smart bowler. His action is smooth, if he happens to gain some height in next couple years he can be a great upcoming fast bowler.

I am excited at the improvement of Khaleel. India need a left armer. As for Nagarkoti , i get the feeling of Agarkar which is not bad in ODI but useless in everything else.

Dear Friend

A growing economy - middle class has tons of money now and its 25 crore strong
gyms everywhere . young kids i am seeing are body builders .
i am five feet 11 my brother is 6 feet 2 ( real bro)
we are 12 years apart . we had more money once he was born . i loved drinking milk but never had more than a glass ..
he drank two glasses a day. got to eat protein of better quality - i was a legspinner for mumbai u16
he can bowl fast .

the point being when u have more money, parents concentrate on sending their kids to sports as they have backup careers available if they fail in sports - nagarkoti i believe has a father like that. Sania Mirza father is millionaire .

growin economy also means lack of childhood illness . my father is just five feet 7 . hope i can illustrate my point with this .

growth has got to do with balanced home enviromment - mental peace, good food , no illness , economic security
fitness comes in with a mentality ..

i am now a physician in usa and i met at least 2 dozen chinese immigrant - first gen . all 6 feet tall ! china one child policy has created kids who are tall and well nourished .

i m not sure about japaneses - growth also gotta do some with genetics and altitude .

Indian economy is v interesting .20 crore people have nations 99 percent wealth . ur cricketing population comes from that pool . u need to walk around the middle class areas of city and u will see it .

if u need more evidence, see the per capita income and olympic medal . u will see the best correlation there .

bcci has more money cos of economy- reliance cup in 1987 was the start . while i was playing under 16 , the job options were so limited - railways or some coach in some college if i didnt make it . no ipl . no lucrative post ipl careers . no money to travel . it was a choice for me to go into medicine vs carry on legspin . i quit cos i needed guranteed future ( i come from v poor family but cleared iit entrance but went into medicine as it was moe appealing )

today i have a son and i m planning to build cricket nets for him at home here in usa ! i can spend on his training - will also be teaching him golf and i have a big pool in my house .

sports is so related to economy , u cant imagine
