NEW DELHI – A lot of Indians especially readers of The Hindustan Times newspaper showed anger and frustration and showered huge criticism on Karan Thapar – Indian journalist, television commentator and interviewer – for praising National Security and Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz.

In his fresh writing in the paper, Thapar asked Indian politicians to learn a lot from Sartaj Aziz, as he has many sterling qualities like a quiet dignity, a pleasing manner, a quick intelligence and an appearance of honesty. “The quality that took me by surprise and is the cause of my admiration is his astute handling of the press,” he wrote.

The Indian readers openly wrote against the seasoned journalist in their comments on the paper’s website. “Only Karan Thapar and Barkha Dutt (another Indian television journalist and columnist) have problems with India,” a reader wrote. “Indian government should treat Indian media the same way as how media is treated in Pakistan and China,” he wrote.

Some readers called Thapar and Barkha ‘idiots’ for writing what they believe in ‘favour of Pakistan’ or sharing Pakistani point of view in the Indian media. Another reader asked the Indian government to ban certain TV channels which are creating ‘social unrest’ among people and are ‘inciting violence’ in India. Some readers suggested ban on journalists like Thapar.

“I’m writing to praise Sartaj Aziz,” he said, adding that it certainly goes against the grain of the present atmosphere in India. “It’s also not what you expect of an Indian journalist when he writes about a Pakistani politician,” Thapar wrote in the paper. “The important point I want to make is that a top Pakistani politician was willing to give interview to the Indian media, even after the talks collapsed amidst acrimony and bitterness,” he said.

“You might not have agreed with him (Sartaj) but what was undeniable and, consequently, impressive is he was willing to be questioned, answered unhesitatingly and, therefore, did what democrats should do: explain, persuade, and try to convince,” he wrote.

Some readers tried to label Thapar as ‘traitor’ for airing Pakistani point of view and helping Sartaj in answering the questions, raised by him during the interview. Thapar is currently associated with the Headlines Today television channel and hosts the shows – To the Point and Nothing But The Truth.

A week has passed but not a single member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has spoken to the media about the collapsed talks. “Our ministers have felt no need to explain, leave aside justify — and forget all about the thought of answering critics. Yet a Pakistani minister did just this. I believe that contrast speaks for itself,” Thapar wrote.

“Our minister's press conference on that crucial afternoon was specific to the point, firm, and very well presented. There is no ambiguity left for further detailed explanations,” another Indian reader wrote with his reference to a media talk of India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Sawaraj in which she clearly cancelled the talks after putting conditions for the unconditional talks.

hmm...

First, FREE SPeech!! Even Dumb speech is free speech. As long as it is in the form non threatening physically free speech should be allowed.

Thapar expressed his views and many of the public disagreed in their own ways, It would be an actual concern if there was threat of physical harm to him.

As for saying the talks scheduled were supposed to be "unconditional" ... hehe I just give up. :P

Difficult to argue with that. No wonder Indian super zealots are calling for a ban, it's the only way to shut up the voice of reason.

If they wanted talks then why did they agree to preconditions in Ufa that the meeting would be limited to terrorism?

It's like the simla agreement. Pak agrees only for bilateral talks India says not until terrorism stops and then get blue in the face screaming for un intervention.

Karan Thapar was called a Pro-Bee Jay Pee guy back in 90's. Now he is a traitor.

Even Advani praised Jinnah.

'Indians'? Why do you generalize a whole billion people based on the actions of a few?

Thapar gave his opinion.Others gave theirs.Free Speech.

Nothing extraordinary. But then i looked at the source.

Every nut East of the Radcliffe line represents one sixth of mankind,
but the nuts on the west of the Wagah border, few and irrelevant!!

Terrorism means terrorism in Kashmir too by Indian forces. Whey India wants to impose its definition of terrorism on Pakistan.

I guess the only way to prove you're a patriot in India is by talking digs at Pakistan.

And the only way to prove you're a Good Muslim in Pakistan is by bashing Modi , India and crying about Indian Muslims all the time.

Even if that's the case the deal breaker was meeting with so called separatists that have annointed themselves the sepertist go to party of India.

That has nothing to do with terrorism. Don't make a deal in front of the whole world if you can't keep it. Looks incredibly foolish.

Every leader who has ever visited India has met these leaders, so why you cancelled the meeting this time. Modi should make a deal with Pakistan which he couldn't keep.

You can not stop this so called sepertist movement in Kashmir, because its their right which Mr. Nahro admitted when he took this matter in UN in 1948.

Doesn't matter what happened in the past a deal was made in front of the world and Pakistan bin ladened it again.

Lol this is right after hiding mulla omars death too. Then then want to have the "world" stand on their side.

Hahaha OK sure and we'll also discuss balochistan and our support for their freedom fighters.

Maybe we can meet with their sepertists in Pakistan talks instead of just covertly funding them.

Jokes on you 95% of the separatists in Baluchistan have already laid their arms..

here is one thing you need to understand that kashmir is a disputed territory while it is not the case with balochistan.

Well if he's gonna troll and involve Sikhs and punjab I got no problem stating the obvious. India is supporting the freedom fighters in balochistan. I suppose well find out who has the bigger war chest.

Indians talking about Balochistan is funny but then they need some counter point to Kashmir no matter how absurd.

Sure bro, we also want to talk about Balochistan as Sirtaj Aziz was going to give Dossier to GOI for its interference in internal matters Pakistan.

We were also going to talk about 'Movement of Khalistan'.

Bro, Mr. Modi is doing everything in his power to sink India.

hahaha , then India should support Mujahiden of Kashmi who are working for the freedom of kashmir, infact i will also label them as Freedom fighters, lol
So India loves to support freedom fighters of the world, kindly support Freedom fighters of Kashmir too.
I hope you will agree to this post ( because this logic is created by you )

double standards...as always from India. Too bad their funding really doesn't match up to the training Pakistan has provided to its 'freedom fighters'. They should know well by now what a handful of people trained by Pakistan can do, they still cry about what occurred in the 90s lol.

Hahaha Sikhs are the backbone of India the chief of staff billionaires prime ministers chief ministers have all been Sikhs in India.

In Pakistan you guys get excited and make a video if a Sikh is allowed to be a traffic cop.

Just like the oppressed Bengalis balochistan can be broken clean off as well. Treat your minorities better. Heed my advice before it's too late.

I have recently started to watch Karan Thapar. I must say he’s very balanced and professional journalist. Very unindian

In plain words, he is a stooge of the Nehru-Gandhi family.

In plain words, anyone who is not Modi stooge isn't Indian enough.

Karan Thapar has been a journalist since long ago, much before Modi came to power. There is nothing left to be known about him.

Well spotted.

The way he utterly embarrassed event manager is another good reason to hate him. The way the event manager ran away with tail between his legs was such a sight!

I live closeby where Karan Thapar lives. He is not without his faults. He (along with quite a few more) obstructed (of course unsuccessfully but delayed the project by a few good years) the extension of a flyover on the pretext of it obstructing his property and privacy.

Of course, he has such a great command over English language and unlike pseudo and sellout journalists, who are in abundance in India these days, he just shreds the person with his grasp of facts and command over journalism irrespective of which ideology he/she belongs to.
