Pak should learn from Ban.Keeping the faith in younger players and building strong core will ensure better results in the 2023 worldcup.

Babar,Imam,Shadab,Shaheen,Fakhar should form core of this team.

No way. Other then Babar, Shadab and maybe Fakhar the rest have too go.

Our middle order and bowling attack needs changes. Top 3 is pretty decent.

I think the issue is the culture of the PCB: we couldn’t bench two mediocre players like hafeez and Malik for this World Cup and boring back sub par wahab.
You can imagine that leading up to 2023 any of these core group of players could have a prolonged slump in form. As they see how easy seniors have it in pcb, they will be right to demand that they be selected.
And the pcb will be as spineless then as it is now, as it was in 2015, in 2011, in 2007, in 2003.

Spots 4,5,6,7 the problem.

1,2,3 as it stands are decent. A challenger is needed - Sharjeel who knows, a youngster?

8,9,10,11, again potential. Shadab at 8 with solid seam options - Rauf must get a try.

Middle order is nowhere though.

No. None of the 15 are at the level required. They are a national disgrace. Need a complete fresh start.

That England battathon series completely screwed up the plans of Pakistan. it did more harm to them. Gave false sense of security. That series made batsmen look better than they are. Also it made bowlers look worse than they are. Junaid probably would have been better than either Riaz or Hasan.

Would only keep fakhar, babar, imad, shaheen, shadab from this squad to be honest. Hasan Ali needs to be dropped and asked to perform in the domestics. Would like to see rauf given a chance and rizwan to replace sarfraz. Need a captian who has that slight arrogance about him and that would be imad. Next world cup is in india so need good players of spin which harris isnt. Need to bring in specialist wicket taking spinner for the middle overs. Now dont bring average wannabes like nawaz. I mean good spinners like saqlain and ajmal

Everyone has to go - Babar has potential he can stay but has to learn how to finish games and not get out at important times

Imam is absolute thrash when he faces tough bowlers (poor technique, will just manage to survive some days and hit his 50 off 90 balls and kill the match)

Shadab, Fakhar, Shaheen can possibly make comebacks but need to be dropped to improve, Shaheen needs to add 5 kph and learn to bowl proper areas with consistency, Shadab same thing bowl right areas and be consistent enoughw itht he short balls

Fakhar should keep his natural game be aggressive - but work on the short ball and playing with a straight bat rather than a twisted inside half of the bat. When Sharjeel returns they can fight for 1 spot.

Everyone else is just thrash - we might keep Amir for his economical bowling which can possibly create pressure in the modern game - otherwise find new ball wicket takers, depends on approach.

Hassan Ali has got to go - he has the worse work ethic and too full of himself without performing. Rather someone low key who works hard and would improve their game - Mir Hamza is doing well in English county.

I agree with you.
Hasan needs to be dropped and come back with the right hunger. He will be good on the low bounce Asian wickets,
Maybe even Imad as well,

It's generally a good idea to stick with younger players of promise to give them a chance to develop...providing they actually have the basis of a good game.

There is promise there in bowlers like Shaheen and Hasnain, not sure I've seen much in the batsmen in anyone other than Babar. Imam's record was good going into the world cup, but he's been disappointing when it mattered.

Hasnain doesn't seem like a wicket taker, he's only chosen for his pace. I would like Hassan Ali to make a comeback or try out Haris Rauf.
Oh and Usman Shinwari as well.

If you want everyone to go...who the hell is gonna play?

Shadab is a huge question mark for me at the moment. His bowling never looks threatening his batting.was never special and his fielding has regressed big time. His face looks a lot chubbier too

Will Add Harris to the list as well.Very impressed with his batting unlikely pak batsman.

You guys realize the next World Cup is in India right?

No matter what team we have at the time, India will be favourites and likely to eat us alive in their home ground.

Forget 2023. I want PCB think tank to work on the plan to bring our test/odi team to the team. We are really at the bottom of the pile.
Build a team who can challenge bigger teams Aus/Eng/SA/NZ and improve our rankings.

No need for drastic changes, our team is well settled and thanks to Mickey Arthur he has brought alot of superiority and professionalism in the team.

Fakhar
Imam looks settled keep them
I dont know many young batsmen that are coming through time to invest in youth and back them.
Babar azam
Harris sohail
Shadab
Imad
Hassan ali
Amir
Shaheen
Hasnain
Abid ali there good for test cricket

Need to find good batsmen and who can be developed considering modern day cricket.

Agreed. I like this XI.

Agreed. I like this XI.

Mate i was just discussing the possibility of players to be kept for the future.

But we need to improve our domestic structure drastically to become a good team again, its not always abt WC only. Lets start planning to win in aus, nzl, England and sa again.

From our current squad, Imam, Babar, Haris, Imad, Amir, Shaheen should be kept. Imad can be captain.

Hasan, Shadab, Fakhar must go back to domestic cricket and get their form back up

Rest are too old etc

We need to try new players, there are some good names out there who have good domestic records:

Sharjeel Khan, Saad Ali (mostly a test player), Saud Shakeel, Zafar Gohar, Khushdil Shah, Haris Rauf, Amir Yamin. Rizwan can be wk. Also Mohammad Irfan leggie, or Ashgar are other spin options.

Haidar Ali, Naseem Shah, Rohail Nazir are very promising from u19 team but they need to play some domestics and gain experience before being considered for international and, so just keep them in the mind for the future.

My new XI would be:
1)Imam
2)Sharjeel Khan
3) Babar (VC)
4)Haris Sohail
5) Rizwan (wk)
6)Khushdil Shah
7) Imad Wasim (c)
8)Zafar Gohar
9) Amir / ashgar/Irfan (depending on pitch)
10)Shaheen
11)Haris rauf

Amir Yamin or Saud could get a place instead of Khushdil Shah depending on performance.
Sack inzi, Sarfraz and Mickey. I like Mickeys professionalism but his tactics are awful especially with spinners .

Players to keep:

Fakhar
Babar
Haris
Shadab
Shaheen
Amir

Players that can stay if they are performing well:

Hasan
Imad
Imam

Players to find(potential candidates):

Opener, Imam isn't good enough as of now (no idea)
#5 batsmen(Mohammad Rizwan/Rohail Nazir)
Wicket Keeper, one of these 2 should bat at 5(Mohammad Rizwan/Rohail Nazir)
#6 batsmen(Khushdil Shah)
Proper Spinner(Zafar Gohar/Umer Khan)
Fast Bowler(Haris Rauf)

The core of this team struggle against spin. The next World Cup is in India and we need a top order that can dominate spin. If this lot cannot improve against spin then I don't have any faith in the core of this team.

We also need consistent, quality spinners. No point in getting exciting about upcoming pacers if we cannot find a group of quality spinners.

The core of this team will have to change drastically if we want to succeed in the next World Cup. Otherwise we'll be carrying an ageing Hafeez and useless Malik into the next World Cup as well because of their 'seniority' and 'experience'.

So a team with 3 batsman ? :moyo2

:))

Sorry brain f.a.rt by me. :afridi

I meant anyone over the age of 28 has to go.

This is what happens when you adhere to Misbah's "school of thought" :))

He loved his oldies as well.

jk jk

It's all love.

I am afraid core would remain the same but have to carry the burden of Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Amir, Wahab, Yasir Shah & Hafeez.

junaid is washed up. he is trash. slow and his action is suspect too.

Invest in U19 players PROPERLY we missed the trick to groom Hammad Azam -he was player of the tournament in U19 but that is lost now. Focus on Rahul, Haider Ali, Naseem U19 top performers.
PSL in every game required to have one U19 player in playing eleven.
Invest in spinner - Nawaz on England wicket would have been a success.
Sharjeel can play next WC easily better then Fakhar zaman

I would have this odi team going forward atleast for the next few series:

1. Abid Ali
2. Fakhar Zaman
3. Babar Azam
4. Haris Sohail
5. Rizwan
6. Khushdil Shah
7. Imad Wasim
8. Shadab Khan
9. Shaheen Afridi
10. Amir
11. Hasnain

12. Saud Shakeel
13. Haris Rauf
14. Zafar Gohar
15. Aamer Yamin

The next world cup is in India and the Modi government will be gearing for re-election around that time. I don't think it will be politically safe for Pakistan to play the world cup there much less win it.

People want quality spinners in the ODI XI but still keep selecting Imad. He is not a wicket taker. He will be the next hafeez and malik if Pak do not get rid of him now.

I will persist with Shadab as he does take wickets but just need to ne more consistent which will come with experience. With Imad you know he can't get any better as a bowler, as a batsman he is average and a pathetic fielder. I can't believe some are putting his name forward for captain.

Pakistan will go into 2023 World Cup ranked 5th-6th and will perform as such like it has been for the last 10-15 years
