I think Sethi has a personal vendetta against Sharjeel Khan. He must be envious of his success. I don’t see any reason why Sharjeel would be involved, he had so much opportunities for the future. It’s sad to see Sethi destroy a remarkable players career for his own personal malicious agenda.

I'm glad you have managed to keep up with his statements. Didn't he also say Sharjeel carried out the fixing in the opening game? Or was it a case of him and Latif not reporting an approach. I'm confused, please help. :inti

McCullum's evidence was tantamount to a confession, yet he wasn't even charged. It will be extraordinary if Sharjeel Khan is punished for an offence that McCullum was never even charged for, even after he confessed.

A hypothetical question.

If sometime in the near future the ICC were to charge and ban a player for not reporting an approach, and bearing in mind that the ICC did nothing to McCullum for not reporting, as outlined in your post, could that player then have a case if he were to take the ICC to court on the basis of double standards, and/or the fact that the ICC have already set a precedent vis-a-vis the non action against McCullum?

FIA submits initial report on PSL spot-fixing

Islamabad - Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has submitted initial findings report on spot-fixing in the second edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) to Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday.

The reliable sources told The Nation that FIA had mentioned different points, how to prevent spot-fixing and players’ involvement in this scam, while it was also stressed in the report to carefully monitor the evidences and proves provided by the PCB and forensic help should be taken to determine the actual culprits.

The sources said it was also taken into account that players deliberately erased the messages in their cell phones. “It was also taken into account that it was not about the involvement of a few players and it is not just their individual act, but in fact, it is about the reputation of the entire PSL and the country and such things bring bad name to the country and badly tarnish its image,” they added.

The Interior Minister directed FIA to take all aspects into account, go into each and every detail and thorough investigation from every angle must be conducted. He also directed FIA not to bow down under any pressure from any quarter and just focus on free, fair and impartial investigation and find out actual culprits.

The minister also directed FIA to complete findings as early as possible and submit detailed report to him so that the persons, who inflict huge damages on the game and PSL, must be taken to task and exemplary punishments must be awarded to them. “There is no room for the spot-fixers and match-throwers in Pakistan and in cricket,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that after this incident, entire cricketing world once again raised fingers at Pakistan cricket. When Najam Sethi had announced that Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif were involved in spot-fixing as both were sent home immediately while an inquiry was also conducted against lanky pacer M Irfan and other few players, whose names were not disclosed by the board, the PSL head should have provided those evidences to the Interior Ministry and FIA, which could help in finding the real culprits, but after a lapse of almost one month, nothing was heard from him and others.

Any further delay from providing those solid proofs could bring disaster to Pakistan cricket, which can further diminish its image globally. A stern action against culprits and across the board operation cleanup is the only way to save cricket from further downslide.

Seems like PCB has asked FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) to get involved. The players will be required to give FIA their statements and there will be a deeper investigation.

The only way is a "deeper investigation". I have no trust in the PCB/PSL/Sethi/Shahryar to form a Whatsapp group, let-alone an investigation into fixing.

Don't they have an ACU headed by an ex-army Colonel? I think it is more about optics and to ensure they have seeked help from the right agency to sort this out.

[REPORTS] PSL spot-fixing case: Pakistan Cricket Board to grill Nasir Jamshed

Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will interrogate Test batsman Nasir Jamshed for his role in PSL spot-fixing scandal that led to suspension of three players. According to a well-informed official in the board, Jamshed will be questioned in at the Pakistan High Commission in London, where he is based these days. "He can't come to Pakistan as he is on bail and has to appear before UK's national crime agency in April in this case. But we want to also question him in detail about his role in the PSL spot-fixing scandal," the source told PTI.

According to the official either Jamshed would be questioned on skype or the head of the PCB Anti-Corruption Unit, Colonel Azam would fly to London with a legal advisor to carry out the interview. "It will happen soon as Nasir appears to have played a key role in the spot-fixing scandal that came to our notice.
He is the one who asked Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif and others to meet with the suspected bookmaker, Yousuf Anwar in Dubai last month," the source claimed.

Media reports have said that Nasir has also agreed to become an approver in the case for the PCB but the source said he was not in a position to confirm or deny this. Jamshed, 27, who has appeared in two Tests, 48 ODIs and 18 T20 internationals is presently settled in the UK with his family but appeared in Pakistan¿s ongoing domestic season in January.

The left-hander was also suspected of spot-fixing in the Bangladesh Premier League two years back but managed to escape without any punishment and went on to make his last appearance for Pakistan in the 2015 World Cup. The PCB has already suspended three players, Sharjeel, Khalid and Muhammad Irfan in the case and a three-member tribunal, headed by a former judge, has already been formed to hold the hearings. Both Sharjeel and Khalid have denied doing any spot-fixing for the suspected bookmaker and a yet to be named foreigner but have admitted to not informing authorities when approaches were made to them to spot fix matches in the PSL.

Similarly pace bowler, Muhammad Irfan has also admitted getting offers and not informing the authorities about him and has also been provisionally suspended from all cricket and has been given 14-days to reply to the show cause notice issued to him in which he has been charged with violation of some clauses of the ACU code. The PCB ACU officials and legal advisor have also carried out detailed questioning of another Pakistani player, Shahzaib Hasan on Tuesday and Wednesday in Lahore. Pakistan interior minister, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan told the media in Islamabad on Thursday that the government was taking the PSL spot-fixing case seriously. "The PSL spot-fixing case is not just about our cricket it is also an embarrassment for Pakistan and I can tell you if anyone is found guilty of playing with the integrity of the game and image of Pakistan he can expect strong punishment," Nisar said.

Is anyone able to upload some of nasir's dismisals? I have seen him get out to similar shot several times, could those have been deliberate? He seems to have been in it for sometime.

FIA is the most incompetent of agencies. I don't trust them with fair investigation is any case. Even NAB (which is an autonomous body as compared to FIA that comes under ministry) is better.

PCB ACU to probe Jamshed in London

LAHORE: The probe of Pakistan Super League spot-fixing scandal has been extended to England, ARY News reported on Saturday.

Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will visit England to question Nasir Jamshed who is recently living in the country.

The 2010 spot-fixing issue surfaced and decided in England, in which Pakistani cricketers Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir faced trial and jailed for the cheating offence.

Opening batsman Nasir Jamshed facing charges of playing a go-between role in PSL spot-fixing scandal between bookies and the players.

The PCB Anti-Corruption Unit will visit England for questioning Nasir Jamshed who said to be reside at Old Hill Dudley. PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan has confirmed the report.

Jamshed will visit Pakistan High Commission in London to attend the questioning session with the ACU officials.

PCB had provisionally suspended Nasir Jamshed from all forms of cricket for violating its anti-corruption code after surfacing of the spot-fixing scandal and the player’s alleged involvement in it.

Opening batsmen Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, seamer Mohammad Irfan and Shahzeb Hasan have also been suspended and facing charges for their alleged role in the fixing scandal that rocked the second edition of the PSL.

The case against Sharjeel/Khalid/Shahzaib is far worst than against Irfan

Just heard a report in Express TV that Sharjeel/Khalid/Shahzaib are charged for which the punishment is 5 years if found guilty while Irfan is charged for which the punishment is 6 months if found guilty. So the case against Sharjeel/Khalid/Shahzaib is far worst than against Irfan. The report was suggesting that the case is not consistent and it was easy on Irfan .

Five players to be put on ECL in PSL spot-fixing case

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is considering placing five national cricketers on the Exit Control List (ECL) after their suspected involvement in spot-fixing during the recent Pakistan Super League (PSL).

According to sources, the FIA has submitted a letter to the Interior Ministry urging it to put names of five cricketers on the ECL. The move will bar players from foreign travel until completion of probe against them.

The FIA says it was about to launch investigation against the five cricketers and travel ban on the players would help smooth continuation of the inquiry.

Five players – Nasir Jamshed, Muhamamd Irfan, Shahzaib Hassan, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif – are currently under investigation by the anti-corruption unit of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Irfan had admitted before the investigation panel his contact with a bookie. Sources informed that the bookie had approached the fast bowler during a PSL match.

The PCB has asked Irfan to furnish his reply within 14 days.

During the suspension period, Irfan is barred from playing any form of cricket. The bowler has also been handed over the charge-sheet by the cricket board.

Regarding his contact with bookie, Irfan said he could not report about the offer of spot-fixing because he was under mental stress following his parents’ deaths recently.

Making a disclosure before the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), Irfan admitted that he had received offer of spot-fixing, but added that he did not commit any wrongdoing.

“First my father passed away in September last year. Later in January this year, my mother also expired after a protracted illness. I was under intense mental stress following the demise of my loved ones. That’s why I could not report about receiving offer of spot-fixing,” he said.

The probe against Nasir Jamshed will be conducted in London, where the player is currently staying. He is reported to have facilitated a contact between bookie and Sharjeel and Khalid Latif.

Shahzaib Hasan has decided to approach a tribunal after being formally charged by the PCB. He has refused to accept charges leveled by the PCB’s ACU.

Shahzaib states that he did not provoke any player and informed the PCB of everything he knew. He also offered the PCB to assist it in tackling this menace.

As the spot fixing erupted, Sharjeel and Latif were the first group of players to have faced suspension by the PCB.

“Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif have been suspended and the rigorous and wide-ranging investigation by the PCB supported by ICC will continue as part of collective efforts to protect the integrity of the sport,” read a PCB statement after the incident.

Doesn't make sense. According to reports Irfan admitted to be approached 5 times but still didn't inform. He told them about the approaches made to him even for international assignments.

Shahzaib went to ACU himself about the approach. If he was enticing other players or he was doing spot fixing or even committed to do so (like Sharjeel and Khalid) it doesn't make sense to go to ACU by himself.

So the punishment mentioned doesn't make sense at all.

I've heard PCB also showed him fake statement of Nasir Jamshed when they haven't even questioned or recorded statement of Nasir Jamshed.

FIA wants tainted cricketers on ECL

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency urged the interior ministry to put names of cricketers suspected of spot fixing on the Exit Control List.

The FIA, in a letter, asked the ministry to bar the players from travelling abroad till the investigation against them was complete.

Five players – Nasir Jamshed, Muhamamd Irfan, Shahzaib Hassan, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif – are currently under investigation by the anti-corruption unit of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

FIA had issued notices to four cricketers, Sharjeel Khan, Nasir Jamshed, Khalid Latif and Muhammad Irfan for investigating allegations of spot fixing in the Pakistan Super League.

On March 16, these players were directed by FIA to appear before the agency on March 20 and 21 to record their statement. The investigation into spot fixing scandal is being carried out by FIA on the formal request of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The interior minister in his last media talk had stated that FIA would continue with the PSL spot fixing inquiry irrespective of the fact the PCB was reluctant to probe the case through the agency. He was of the view that PCB can go ahead with its inquiry but FIA would see this case from a criminal aspect.

According to some media reports, another cricketer Irfan is also facing charges of spot fixing and according to these reports the PCB has asked Irfan to furnish his reply within 14 days. Reportedly, he has also been suspended.

LAHORE: Suspended cricketers Mohammad Irfan, Sharjeel Khan, Shahzaib Hasan and Khalid Latif will appear before Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Monday to record their statements regarding the Pakistan Super League (PSL) spot fixing scandal.

The four cricketers will record their statements in the case at FIA office located at Lahore.

The investigation agency, in a letter, has requested the Interior Ministry to include the names of the suspended cricketers in the Exit Control List. FIA has expressed its concern that they can travel abroad during the investigation.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan will make the final decision on FIA’s suggestion.

The tribunal formed to investigate the scandal will start working next week.

It should be noted that Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif were the first players to be handed suspensions by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after reports of match-fixing circulated during the second edition of Pakistan Super League this year.

Mohammad Irfan also came under the limelight but was allowed to take part in the competition.

PCB charged Irfan over his alleged involvement in spot-fixing during the recently held Twenty20 league and suspended the seven-foot pacer from all formats of the game.

Shahzaib Hasan became the fourth player to be suspended from cricket after his name was also included in the investigation. Irfan, Latif and Khan had blamed Hasan for making contacts with bookies.

All the tainted players can also be jailed besides being suspended if found guilty in the scandal.

The Pakistan government has barred the five cricketers involved in alleged spot-fixing from leaving the country.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has provisionally suspended Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Irfan, Shahzaib Hasan and Nasir Jamshed from playing any form of cricket for violating anti-corruption code during the recent Pakistan Super League.

Jamshed is still in Britain, where he was first arrested as part of investigation into alleged corruption in the PSL.

The interior ministry said in a statement that Irfan and Latif recorded their statements to officials of Federal Investigation Authority in Lahore on Monday. Hasan and Sharjeel are scheduled to record their statements to FIA officials on Tuesday.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan directed FIA officials to carry out a thorough investigation against the five players. Khan said there should be a zero tolerance policy and anybody who is involved in spot-fixing should not be spared.

The PCB has formed a separate three-member tribunal which includes a retired judge and a retired general to conduct its own inquiry against Sharjeel and Latif.

Last week, the cricket board provisionally suspended Irfan and Shahzaib and gave them two weeks to respond to the charges.

Last month, Sharjeel and Latif were sent back home from the United Arab Emirates for alleged spot-fixing during the PSL’s opening match.

The PCB’s anti-corruption unit questioned Irfan and Hasan during the PSL, but they were allowed to compete in the tournament. Both were provisionally suspended after they recorded their statements to the PCB’s ACU officials in Lahore last week.

LAHORE: Sharjeel Khan and Shahzaib Hasan on Tuesday appeared before federal investigation officers and recorded statements in connection with their alleged contacts with a syndicate of bookies.

The two cricketers are among five players who have been charged with different offenses related to spot fixing during the second edition of Pakistan Super League held in Dubai last month.

Muhammad Irfan and Khalid Latif have already recorded their statements while a fifth player Nasir Jamshed is out of country.

Sources privy to the FIA told APP that Sharjeel and Shahzaib denied spot fixing charges. Irfan and Khalid have also pleaded innocence.

They have made similar statements which they have already given to the anti-corruption unit of Pakistan Cricket Board, add sources.

Pakistan Cricket Board, on the other hand, denied reports that it has submitted a formal application to the FIA for starting investigation against the cricketers allegedly involved in spot fixing.

“We did not approach the FIA in this regard and only asked the investigation agency (FIA) to utilize its resources to get and check the record of mobile phone data of the concerned cricketers ,” Chief Operating officer, PCB, Subhan Ahmad, said.- SAMAA

Sharjeel to challenge FIA’s jurisdiction in spot-fixing probe

LAHORE - One of the main accused in the Pakistan Super League’s spot-fixing scandal Sharjeel Khan is to challenge the FIA’s jurisdiction to investigate the issue.

Sharjeel nad Shahzaib Hasan appeared before the Federal Investigation Agency Tuesday and recorded their statements before the body in their defence. Two other cricketers named in the scandal, Khalid Lateef and Muhammad Irfan had appeared before the agency on Monday. Another accused, Nasir Jamshed had also been served notice to appear before FIA but as he is out of country, he failed to appear before the FIA investigation team.

The federal agency is investigating the mega corruption scandal that rocked Pakistan cricket last month on the on the special directives of the Ministry of Interior.

However, Sharjeel’s counsel Imran Akram said that hewill challenge the ambit of the agency regarding inquiry. He said that only Pakistan Cricket Board is authorised to look into the matter regarding spot fixing allegations.

This is violation of the code of conduct of the board to take action against players under criminal Act, he maintained.

The FIA claimed that it was investigating the charges on complaint of the PCB Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmad. However, Subhan had said he had just asked for FIA’s assistance in gathering and analysing the forensic data related to the case for establishing the evidence against the suspected players. Minister for Interior Ch Nisar Ali Khan had also held a press conference in Islamabad last week and said that although the PCB were conducting departmental inquiry into the issue yet they couldn’t register a case against the cricketers.

Well placed sources in FIA said that more persons could have been implicated in the scandal and all would be brought to justice if found involved in spot fixing during inquiry. They said that some influential quarters were backing corrupt cricketers but the interior minister has given free hand to FIA to deal the matter on merit.

I'd say ban them for life and send a strong message to all international and domestic players that anyone caught fixing will not only suffer a life ban from cricket but also be charged with treason and sent to jail for a very long time.

Sethi has been proven multiple times of lying. He is a proven liar about his overseas properties for tax evasion. And he is a proven liar about Kevin Petterson using Imran Khan's statement to not come to Lahore for the PSL2 final. So it is understandable that people will speculate if Sethi is saying truth or lying again. I for one am surprised that Sethi still has a job after caught lying :facepalm:

For Sharjeel there is no such precedence that he was caught lying before like Sethi. Thats why people would believe Sharjeel more over Sethi. Sethi might be right in this case but lets wait until the verdict.

According to our correspondent, all five suspended players – Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Irfan, Shahzaib Hasan and Nasir Jamshed – who were charged with contacting bookies in the recently concluded PSL, lied in the inquiry and initially rejected all allegations.

However, the tainted players have now confessed their wrongdoing.

“Sharjeel has confessed that he played two dot balls that he had sold to bookies,” a source in the PCB said.

He said Shahzaib was also in contact with bookies, adding that the player is also guilty of inciting other colleagues for fixing.

And Shahzaib went to ACU by himself after enticing him(as Sharjeel is a kid who doesn't know what is wrong and right) and others. PCB did not have any reports against Shahzaib. Plus, he wasn't clicked with the bookie. All makes sense Sharjeel :).
 
As per my understanding, he challenged FIA's jurisdiction in this case on PCB's support and admitted to his crimes. Though I don't believe he has admitted unless it's official. His career will be doomed. None of the other cricketers are charged for spot fixing apart from him.
 
If true, he along with the others involved deserve to be banned. But there's something about Samaa tv that doesn't sit well with me.
 
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) finally agreed on Thursday to work together on the PSL spot-fixing probe.

During a meeting held on the directives of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, senior officials of the FIA and the PCB agreed to work together to root out the menace of corruption from cricket in Pakistan and assist each other in completion of departmental, legal and criminal proceedings against those found guilty of corruption.

The meeting followed contacts between the interior minister and Pakistan Super League (PSL) chairman Najam Sethi.

Under the arrangement finalised during the meeting, the PCB will provide the FIA all documents and data related to criminal proceedings against corrupt elements while the latter will provide forensic and other related assistance to the former for its tribunal and departmental proceedings.

It was decided that the FIA’s ongoing proceedings would continue, but criminal proceedings involving registration of FIR would follow the conclusion of PCB inquiry. Both sides will exchange actionable intelligence and related information about elements involved in spot- and match-fixing and other corrupt practices.

The two sides will work with other law enforcement agencies to evolve a mechanism for rooting out corrupt practices from local tournaments. They will request the interior ministry to help eradicate the menace of betting by directing the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to block betting websites in the country.

The PCB will assist the FIA in finalising criminal action against all those involved in corrupt practices and actively participate in the legal process already started by the agency. Both sides will hold periodic meetings when required to assist each other in matters relating to corrupt practices and other similar cases.

The interior minister, while talking to reporters on Wednesday, said the FIA and the PBC would work together to investigate the involvement of Pakistani cricketers in spot-fixing. Their officials would hold a meeting and decide how to proceed together on the matter. He said the extent of gambling and the number of cricketers involved in the scam were yet to be determined.

Chaudhry Nisar said he had also asked the FIA to broaden the scope of investigation and include bookies in it. He said there had been many match-fixing incidents attributed to Pakistan in the past and in one such incident, three Pakistani cricketers had been sent to jail.

It was in the interest of justice to take the case to its logical conclusion as the people involved in match-fixing had brought Pakistan a bad name, he added.

The left-hander was also suspected of spot-fixing in the Bangladesh Premier League two years back but managed to escape without any punishment and went on to make his last appearance for Pakistan in the 2015 World Cup. The PCB has already suspended three players, Sharjeel, Khalid and Muhammad Irfan in the case and a three-member tribunal, headed by a former judge, has already been formed to hold the hearings. Both Sharjeel and Khalid have denied doing any spot-fixing for the suspected bookmaker and a yet to be named foreigner but have admitted to not informing authorities when approaches were made to them to spot fix matches in the PSL.

Similarly pace bowler, Muhammad Irfan has also admitted getting offers and not informing the authorities about him and has also been provisionally suspended from all cricket and has been given 14-days to reply to the show cause notice issued to him in which he has been charged with violation of some clauses of the ACU code. The PCB ACU officials and legal advisor have also carried out detailed questioning of another Pakistani player, Shahzaib Hasan on Tuesday and Wednesday in Lahore. Pakistan interior minister, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan told the media in Islamabad on Thursday that the government was taking the PSL spot-fixing case seriously. "The PSL spot-fixing case is not just about our cricket it is also an embarrassment for Pakistan and I can tell you if anyone is found guilty of playing with the integrity of the game and image of Pakistan he can expect strong punishment," Nisar said.

Update on this from PCB:

The Tribunal in consultation with both parties agreed upon the procedure and timelines to be adopted under the Anti-Corruption Code. PCB shall submit its opening brief detailing its claims along with the evidence to be relied on by 14th April 2017. This time period has been agreed in order to give the PCB ACU an opportunity to travel to UK to interview Nasir Jamshed and meet with relevant UK authorities and determine if any of its findings are to be incorporated in the prosecution.
 
Hope nothing is dragged under the carpet , the culprits should be punished. There should not be any liniency towards any 'talented players' :amir :wasim this time around.
 
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Anti-corruption Unit which was due to travel to London to interrogate Nasir Jamshed for his role in the recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) fixing scam is yet to depart for England.

There were reports that the ACU would be in London from April 3-8 but well-placed sources have told Dawn that the visit hasn’t been possible as they haven’t been able to set a date with the discarded Test batsman Nasir.

“The unit will go to London after finalising a date to meet Nasir,” a PCB official said, seemingly negating the possibility of the ACU questioning him through a video link.

Nasir, alongside four other cricketers namely Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Shahzaib Hasan and Mohammad Irfan, was implicated in the PSL fixing scandal.

While Irfan has confessed that he failed to inform the PCB after some bookies made contact with him, Sharjeel, Khalid and Shahzaib are contesting their cases which have been referred to the PCB tribunal headed by Jusitce (retd.) Asghar Haider.

LAHORE: Suspended Pakistan batsmen Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif will contest the PSL spot-fixing charges against them before the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed tribunal when it holds its proceedings at the National Cricket Academy here on Friday.

The tribunal is headed by retired Justice Asghar Haider with former PCB chairman retired Lt Gen Tauqir Zia and former Test captain Wasim Bari being the other two members.

Opener Sharjeel has been charged for breaching Articles 2.1.1; 2.1.2; 2.1.3; 2.4.4 and 2.4.5 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code while Khalid was charged under Articles 2.1.1; 2.1.2; 2.1.3, 2.1.4; 2.4.4; and 2.4.5.

The duo, playing for Islamabad United in the second edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), were sent back to the country immediately after the opening match of the glitzy T20 league in Dubai on February 9 for involvement in a spot-fixing scandal which has seen three other players charged.

The PCB claims it has strong evidence against the charged players and will provide all evidences to the tribunal on Friday.

At the end of the PSL, lanky Pakistan paceman Mohammad Irfan — also of Islamabad United — and Karachi Kings batsman Shahzaib Hasan were also charged.

Irfan later confessed that he did not report to the PCB that a bookie had contacted him and has been slapped with a one-year ban and Rs1 million fine while Shahzaib is likely to contest his case before the tribunal, following in the footsteps of Sharjeel and Khalid.

The PCB has also charged discarded Test opener Nasir Jamshed for his involvement in the saga. Nasir, who lives in London, has been sent a charge sheet through e-mail.

A PCB official visited London recently but there are reports that he did not meet Nasir.

Nasir is not cooperating with PCB and the case against them was dependent on Nasir. Terrible situation for PCB currently.
 
I'm not sure about their guilt, to be honest. They would know better. After the Amir incident, even if some one does fix, they would never deny it. At least, that's what someone with half a brain would do.

The problem is PCB is accusing them for a crime therefore the prerogative is upon PCB to provide the evidence, which should be concrete enough to force a conviction; if they are banking on the fact that these players would just roll over and die......then clearly they missed how Salman and Asif (people who were massively guilty) contested against the English authorities; a legal system that is far more professional, transparent and investigative than ours.

I have to say, I'd be pleasantly surprised if our inept board reeked by corrupt individuals actually produced good enough evidence to convict the accused individuals otherwise we might have a Qayyum report style happy ending for all. However the most interesting thing about this could be a reverse law suit by the accused on the PCB for defamation and recovery of damages as unlike the Qayyum report era in today's day and age everyone has the awareness of such lawsuits and the monetary benefits that can be gained by them.

The PCB are fools (not surprisingly) to drag this unclear and confusing lawsuit out in the open and eventually it might come and bite them in the rear. If they didn't have something concrete, which seems to be the case (with every passing day) and given how we still haven't seen anything defining; then why did they even make such a hoopla out of this ??

In my personal opinion, I think we all have to understand that PCB is run and governed by media personnel left, right and center with the like of Sethi and Shakil Sheikh etc. All these people actually are hardwired to beat drums for ratings and money; they've done so all their lives as they have worked in the latter industry for years and this is how the modern age media has run for the preceding decades. To give these bunch an actual semi government institution is probably as close to shooting yourself in the foot as it might get.

The head and directors of a sporting governing body requires people who can be diplomatic, can lobby for the benefit of the nation against other member boards, must have experience doing so in their initial stages of their careers and should be spotless in terms of corruption and scandals as the reputation of the governing body and the nation lies on their shoulders. Why do you think Pakistan doesn't have any leverage or respect among top cricketing boards ?? This is sole because when they see a panel representing us at the grand stage consisting of scandalous individuals such as Sethi they treat and target them in the manner they think could extract the most benefit for themselves and since Sethi and co (due to their past actions) as gullible as a five year old kid Pakistan always gets the short end of the stick.

I will always maintain that Shehryar (The diplomat + PCB head) is leagues ahead of someone like Sethi. No matter what people say about the old man at least we could pinpoint that his loyalties were undoubtedly with Pakistan, something I am not too sure I can say the same for the next in line chairman.

A prime Shehryar would (as they say in Karachi lingo) 'Bech Aye Sethi Ko Aur Raseed Bhi Na Day', that is the gulf of difference between the abilities of what we had previously and what we're about to inherit due to our beloved PM :14: :14: Shehryar lost his marbles due to age but even so I can safely say he was working in the best interest of Pakistan or so he genuinely thought.

At the end of the day I hope our boys (if innocent) make out of this unscratched and if guilty, with proper evidence against them serve the harshest punishment for the crime but seeing how it's such a high profile event I am afraid even if they are innocent they could end up getting scapegoated due to massive egos being at stake right now !!

To give these bunch an actual semi government institution is probably as close to shooting yourself in the foot as it might get.

The head and directors of a sporting governing body requires people who can be diplomatic, can lobby for the benefit of the nation against other member boards, must have experience doing so in their initial stages of their careers and should be spotless in terms of corruption and scandals as the reputation of the governing body and the nation lies on their shoulders. Why do you think Pakistan doesn't have any leverage or respect among top cricketing boards ?? This is sole because when they see a panel representing us at the grand stage consisting of scandalous individuals such as Sethi they treat and target them in the manner they think could extract the most benefit for themselves and since Sethi and co (due to their past actions) as gullible as a five year old kid Pakistan always gets the short end of the stick.

I will always maintain that Shehryar (The diplomat + PCB head) is leagues ahead of someone like Sethi. No matter what people say about the old man at least we could pinpoint that his loyalties were undoubtedly with Pakistan, something I am not too sure I can say the same for the next in line chairman.

A prime Shehryar would (as they say in Karachi lingo) 'Bech Aye Sethi Ko Aur Raseed Bhi Na Day', that is the gulf of difference between the abilities of what we had previously and what we're about to inherit due to our beloved PM :14: :14: Shehryar lost his marbles due to age but even so I can safely say he was working in the best interest of Pakistan or so he genuinely thought.

At the end of the day I hope our boys (if innocent) make out of this unscratched and if guilty, with proper evidence against them serve the harshest punishment for the crime but seeing how it's such a high profile event I am afraid even if they are innocent they could end up getting scapegoated due to massive egos being at stake right now !!

A sad state of affairs for the country, Pakistan Cricket and all of us fans :(

Lahore April 14, 2017: The Anti-Corruption Tribunal held its hearing today at the National Cricket Academy, Lahore and the following were in attendance:

1. Jus. ® Asghar Haider (Chairman)

2. Lt. Gen. ® Tauqir Zia (Member)

3. Mr. Wasim Bari (Member)

4. Mr. Sharjeel Khan, along with Mr. Shaigan Ijaz Advocate

5. Mr. Taffazul Rizvi and Mr. Haider Ali Khan Advocates for PCB

6. Mr. Salman Naseer, GM Legal Affairs PCB

7. Col. ® Mohammad Azam Khan, Head of PCB’s Vigilance and Security Department


PCB submitted its Opening Brief to the Anti-Corruption Tribunal which details its claims along with all the supporting evidence. This includes, amongst other material, witness statements, recorded interviews, match footage, and copies of certain WhatsApp voice messages.

The Anti-Corruption Tribunal directed that the parties would not make any comments regarding the proceedings of this Tribunal, the contents of the evidence presented to this Tribunal, or on the merits of the present proceedings.

A copy of the opening brief along with all the material was also provided to Mr. Sharjeel Khan and his counsel who shall respond by filing an Answering Brief before the Tribunal on 5th May 2017.

2 years back I was friends with a group of Indians (from Dehli and Chennai) who started this role play among ourselves pretending to be spies conducting corporate espionage in Singapore and Malaysia.

I guess if the authorities someday stumble upon it, we all could land in Jail couldn't we ?? If going by the logic that Whatsapp messages are damning in a court of law conviction.......

Do they have any paper trail / transaction / any wire transfer that actually makes legal sense in a court of law ????

So what. WhatsApp is very informal method of conversation and which joker would plan to fix a match over WhatsApp out of a sudden? This is ridiculous lol

loophole's all over if sharjeel is smart enough he can easily get away with this.
if pcb were smart enough they shouldve waited to get more conclusive evidence against them .they got overexcited trying to be all saint's and coming up with we wont tolerate any corruption .
for their kind information even nepotism is corruption. anyway i dont wanna go that route as we all know how holy they are .

IF he gets away, It'll be interesting that he may get over PCB and Sethi for defamation. :))

Earlier, Mr. Khalid Latif, filed a Writ Petition before the Lahore High Court, Lahore challenging the constitution of the Tribunal. However, the petition of Mr. Latif was dismissed in limine by the Honourable Court after hearing arguments of PCB.

After a delay of an hour due to the fact that Mr. Khalid Latif was awaiting the decision of the Honourable High Court, proceedings of the Anti-Corruption Tribunal commenced.

Mr. Khalid Latif, through his counsel, filed a miscellaneous application. However, the said application was dismissed by the Anti-Corruption Tribunal. The Tribunal also noted the reservation of the counsel of Khalid Latif to challenge the order of the Learned Single Bench before relevant legal forum.

PCB’s counsel submitted its Opening Brief to the Anti-Corruption Tribunal which details its claims along with all the supporting evidence. This includes, amongst other material, witness statements, recorded interviews, recovered material, match footage, and copies of certain WhatsApp voice messages.

The Anti-Corruption Tribunal directed that the parties would not make any comments regarding the contents of the evidence presented to this Tribunal, or on the merits of the present proceedings.

A copy of the opening brief along with all the material was also provided to Mr. Khalid Latif and his counsel who as per Anti-Corruption Code shall respond by filing an Answering Brief before the Tribunal on 5th May 2017.

Whatsapp is informal but secure than other messaging systems or emails. All the messages are encrypted.
