Well, openers have been a big problem for Pak cricket since Saeed Anwar has retired an now Khurram Manzoor is the latest of a long list to be tried out. He has good averages in domestic with 40 average in FC and 45 average in List A and has been piling up the runs in domestic so lets see how he goes.

Is he any good? i've never seen him play
 
has changed his technique , advised by Port Qasim coach Rashid Latif , lets see if he has improved
 
Manzoor still planting his feet classic LB candidate, will give him in this series but chances are good bowlers will gobble him up.
 
Hideous batting technique ! Will be a walking wicket against quality bowling attack !
 
Doesn't look up to international standard I've only seen him once but with a technique like that he won't trouble the big boys.

Where do you find these guys?..

all Karachi batsman seems to be ideal LBW candidate maybe apart from Shafiq I wonder if its the pitches or the coaching.

tbf it was one knock on a comeback has a 77 at Hobart should give him couple more innings to properly judge him.
 
He is same as he was before.Should be playing in next test match if he doesn't perform in next inning.
 
Bit unlucky with the decision, as the ball did hit him high. But the guy is a chalta phirta LBW.

Got lucky with an earlier appeal when the ball was going down leg. But whenever the ball is on his pads, his feet dont move much and he tends to fall over alot.
 
I told you guys earlier if you think his selection means he may have improved his technique then you are wrong..
 
shame there's only 2 tests, if he fails next innings he should be dropped as we have to try out Shan Masood because mr blessed in all facets won't be dropped
 
He needs a long run. If he fails against SA and SL then drop him.

Hes been in and out of the team and was never given a proper run to prove himself. You cannot discard a youngster just after one match. But yes if he fails against SA and SL then show him the way out for once and all.
 
He should be given the whole series. Shan Masood is a newbie. Manzoor is more consistent performer than him. He is experienced. When we can give consistent run to the likes of Ahmed Shehzad despite failing in ODIs, why not give it to Manzoor as well? There is no hurry to try out Shan Masood, as he had only had 1 good season. While Manzoor is performing in almost every season. Shan Masood is not deserving ahead of Manzoor for sure. People calling for his exclusion after 1 innings are delusional.

if mediocre Shehzad can be given 8 odi's then why can't Manzoor get 2 tests.

You are one of the biggest hypocrite I have ever come across.

You support Shehzad failure after failure and beg for more chances for him and now Manzoor fails in his first inning after 4 years and you want him dropped. Its obvious you rather have a team full of your favourites rather than a team on merit.
 
if h's planting his foot then all he needs to do is change his stance slightly. See watson in the final test vs england. Its not a major problem. Manzoor has a similar stance.
 
Also quite amusing to see all these experts led by Kiwi, who are dismissing Manzoor after one inning. At least wait till the end of the series before running your mouth.

Did not watch him today but from my past look of him he will alawys fail... Imran Farhat karachi wala

Wow, you really are biased against Shafiq aren't you? I can understand criticizing him in ODIs but he averages 41 in tests and made a century vs SA at their backyard against guys like Steyn and Philander. So what if he failed for once? So did YK.

Lets make a thread for Shafiq's one failure today and while we are at it lets also make a thread for YK,Hafeez and also for Misbah's stupid shot. Everyone plays a bad shot or bad inning once in a while but i guess people blinded with hatred cant see that.

How many pathetic and "looser" players have a test average of over 40 and have a test century against SA in SA?

this guy Manzoor is in the same class as Amin... both overrated.

Shehzad has scored 250 runs in his last 5 innings as well as two ODI centuries, one of which in debut tour, where Manzoor looks ugly against a club level Zimbo attack. Give him the three tests, no more.

Afaq Raheem is the only opener technically better than Jamshed and Shezad, and that too may be due to age.
 
shaan doesnt deserve to b played in zimbabwe , he is lucky to get nod ahead of taufeeq, afaq,and jamshed
khurram deserves it and should play both matches... if only 1 performance is criteria then drop younus or shafiq too for bad performance and slot faisal iqbal

Are we talking about the 27 year old who has been pathetic (average of 30.63) against most teams that are not Bangladesh, Zimbabwe or Sri Lanka, that too playing most of his cricket in UAE?

I can't believe that this joker plays ahead of players who have a simimar average despite playing in difficult conditions against world class bowling attacks like Fawad Alam and Umar Akmal.

Our batting opening problems would be solved if the right god damn players were picked. Taufeeq Umar should be in the squad definitely and then I also have high hopes for Shan Masood and I think Manzoor should be dropped.
 
He's got a very bad stance and he doesn't look comfortable IMO.

Why is it that Karachi produce very bad cricketers?

I did not see his innings against Zim but I have seen him play on the NZ/Aus tour.
I must say he had the worst technique of any specialist Pak batsman I have seen to date. Many here seem to concur here. The famous 70 odd run innings he played was a very strange innings. The commies kept harping on his poor technique and he kept surviving ball after ball. That inning was like living on an edge and Imran Farhat has played many better looking innings to give an idea.

It is sad that he gets a chance because he scored 70 odd runs and scored domestically but the person who scores 160 odd runs in his first test and on the top in scoring in domestic has been sidelined for 3 years.

Didn't deserve to be in the team. Outcome was expected. He has poor technique as most Karachi batsmen have at the moment

The selection for this tour tells a story. I don't mind provincial politics but at least for quality players not hacks.
 
I bet our second string batting comprising Harris, Amin, Umar Waheed, Babar Azam, Fawad, Sohaib Maqsood, Rizwan will fare better than this current batting.

So to say about team selection

Our selectors show their lightweight wisdom again.
Going with garbage openers whom they hope will somehow be confident after plundering runs against a weaker attack before facing steyn and company

I am glad that you are finally coming out and clearly attacking Karachi unlike your hidden shots before. BTW your buddy Shan Masood is also from Karachi. Also if you think that Fawad Alam, Asad Shafiq, Khurram Manzoor and even Tabish Khan/Atif Maqbool are poor cricketers than you need to take of your hate glasses.

as expected he is out early....the same player he was when he was first selected....pathetic strokeless wonder....do these guys even work on their game when they are out of the national side? or do they just go back to domestic plunder runs on flat tracks and think all is ok again

We must give him a proper run and even if he fails in next game even then he should be persisted with against SA and SL in UAE.

Taufeeq is miles ahead of this fella in terms of test playing ability. I would like to see a young Babar Azam, Shan Masood, Sami Aslam being groomed to curb the opening problem.
 
its a shame that when the folks from karachi (and I am from karachi, born and bred) get a chance to put someone out - they put out these technically deficient players.
