The semi-finals of the Pakistan Cup One-Day Tournament 2020-21, powered by Servis Tyres, will be played at the State Bank Stadium on Friday and Saturday, with the winners going head to head on Sunday at the same venue.

After 30 round matches, Sindh finished on top of the table with seven wins, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was second with six wins. Northern and Central Punjab recorded five wins apiece, but Northern finished above Central Punjab on net run-rate.

As such, in first semi-final on Friday, Sindh will take on Central Punjab while the following day, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will lock horns with Northern. Both contests will start at 0930 PST, and will be produced live by the PCB for PTV Sports and its YouTube Channel.

In the seven men’s domestic events held to date since the season commenced on 30 September 2020, Sindh has won three competitions – National U19 three-day and one-day tournaments, and Second XI Quaid-e-Azam Trophy – while Central Punjab (Second XI National T20 Cup), Southern Punjab (Second XI Pakistan Cup) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (First XI National T20 Cup) have clinched one title each.

The first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final was tied after Central Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ended up on even scores and equal points.

Sindh v Central Punjab

In the first round match between the two sides, Sindh inflicted a crushing six wickets defeat on Central Punjab when they achieved the 288-run target with 19 balls to spare. Khurram Manzoor led Sindh’s charge when he scored 119 and added 108 runs for the second wicket with Saud Shakeel (58).

In the return match, Central Punjab came back strongly when they chased down the 278-run target for the loss of six wickets in 48.3 overs. Khurram scored 143, but his efforts were overshadowed by half-centuries from Tayyab Tahir (93) and Raza Ali Dar (71) along with useful contributions from Qasim Akram (44 not out), Zafar Gohar (28 not out) and Usman Salahuddin (27).

For Sindh, Khurram Manzoor has been their star batsman, having scored 567 runs in 10 matches with three centuries and two half-centuries. He has received good support from Asad Shafiq (337 runs), Danish Aziz (292 runs) and Hassan Khan (254 runs). Amongst the bowlers, Mohammad Umar leads the pack with 14 wickets, followed by Anwar Ali and Hassan Khan (11 wickets apiece), and Mir Hamza (10).

Tayyab Tahir has been the mainstay of Central Punjab’s batting with 539 runs in 10 matches with a century and four half-centuries. Saad Nasim (391 runs), Qasim Akram (385 runs) and Rizwan Hussain (347 runs) have provided Tayyab a good helping hand. Ahmed Bashir and Usman Qadir have shared the bowling responsibilities and have taken 14 wickets each, while Zafar Gohar has scooped nine wickets.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa v Northern

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa comfortably defeated Northern by four wickets in their first match at the NBP Sports Complex. Iftikhar Ahmed took three wickets and Asif Afridi and Irfanullah Shah equally shared four wickets between them to dismiss Northern for 112. In turn, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reached 113 for the loss of six wickets.

In the return match at the SBP Sports Complex, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa made it two out of two when they defeated Northern by five wickets. Batting first Northern scored 324 in 49.2 overs that revolved around Haider Ali (95), Rohail Nazir (68) and Umar Amin (67). In turn, Iftikhar Ahmed slapped 12 fours and three sixes in a 110-ball 123, while Adil Amin scored a 78-ball 93 with five fours and four sixes as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa achieved victory for the loss of five wickets with 10 balls to spare.

Adil Amin has been Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s leading run-scorer with 353 runs in eight matches, while Khalid Usman has scored 339 runs at an average of 56.50. Fakhar Zaman and Iftikhar Ahmed are the other batsmen who have broken the 300-run mark with 312 and 306 runs, respectively. Asif Afridi is by far their best bowler with 18 wickets, followed by Iftikhar Ahmed (nine wickets), Imran Khan and Irfanullah Shah (eight wickets apiece).

For Northern, Asif Ali averages 56.86 after scoring 398 runs in seven matches, while Umar Amin (385) and Hammad Azam (349) are the other notable batsmen. Hammad has followed up his 349 runs with 12 wickets, while Athar Mehmood (11), Salman Irshad (eight) and Mubasir Khan (seven) are the other leading wicket-takers.

Interesting semis lined up. Sindh vs Central Punjab is almost essentially Karachi vs Lahore and will be a treat to watch, especially with Sindh on top of the the league table and CP at the bottom of the four qualifiers. However, both teams were even against each other in the group stages, with one win each, though the more recent match was just three days ago, with Central Punjab being the winners. Spearheaded by a returning Usman Qadir, this battle will be a sight to see.

KPK vs Northern is another interesting battle — KPK is an old batting unit with the odd youngster like Mohammad Haris and Sahibzada Farhan, while it relies on young pacers like Sameen Gul, Arshad Iqbal, Irfanullah Shah, Amir Khan, and Mohammad Waseem Jr.

Northern is a young batting unit full of hyped 20 odd year olds like Haider Ali, Rohail Nazir, Zeeshan Malik, Nasir Nawaz, and Mubasir Khan while the bowling unit is more experienced (Hammad Azam, Salman Irshad, and Waqas Ahmed) with Athar Mahmood and Musa Khan as the younger options in the mix.

Two very contrasting styles at play.

Quaid e Azam trophy was way better than this garbage

Same old ugly hoicks, small grounds, one hack after another slogging away

One of the worst cricket tournament one will ever see no quality/viewing experience what so ever

That's a huge tail for Sindh. They were the best team in the tournament but I don't think they will chase this down.

Muhammad hasnain proving he is the most decent pacer in sindh team , really needs to play qea trophy next yr so he can get into pakistan test team , he is tall and quick stong muscular build and hits the deck hard .

Central Punjab produced a dominant performance to defeat Sindh by 127 runs in the first semi-final of the Pakistan Cup One-Day Tournament, powered by Servis Tyres, at the State Bank Stadium on Friday.

A comical run-out of Omair Bin Yousuf, that was shortly followed by another run-out of Mohammad Hasan, failed to allow Sindh the start and momentum they required in pursuit of a 340-run target as they were eventually bowled out for 212 in 36.5 overs.

Khurram Manzoor, who was involved in both run-outs, finished as the top scorer with an impressive 88 off 73 balls with 12 fours, while Saad Ali contributed 54 off 55 balls with five fours and six. For Central Punjab, Mohammad Ali was the pick of bowlers with three for 31, while Ahmed Bashir and Usman Qadir bagged two wickets apiece at 40 and 50 runs, respectively.

Sindh were chasing their fourth title of the season after having won the National U19 three-day and one-day tournaments, and second XI Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Following their 127-run victory, Central Punjab have stayed on course for the second title of the season after having won the Second XI National T20 Cup in October.

Central Punjab captain Saad Nasim: “I have to give credit to openers Tayyab Tahir and Rizwan Hussain who provided us a good start and then the middle-order was able to consolidate with even contributions. The bowling was sharp and accurate, and Zafar Gohar’s presence gave us more variation and experience.”

Sindh captain Asad Shafiq: “We had a good event, unfortunately we couldn’t carry the form into the semi-final and were beaten by a good Central Punjab side. We didn’t bowl very well after winning a good toss and although we had previously chased big totals at this ground, today was not our day. However, it has been a good event for us and there were a lot of learnings.”

Earlier, put into bat, Central Punjab built on a solid 87-run first-wicket partnership between Tayyab Tahir and Rizwan Hussain to post a competitive 339 for nine. Tayyab finished as the top-scorer with 60 from 70 balls with a six and six fours, while Rizwan hit a whirlwind 29-ball 56 that was punctuated with five sixes and four fours.

Zafar Gohar also hit a half-century when he slapped three sixes and three fours in a 39-ball 53, while captain Saad Nasim (39) and Raza Ali Dar (37) made useful contributions in the middle-order to ensure a good start was not wasted.

For Sindh, Hassan Khan, Mohammad Hasnain and Shahnawaz Dhani took two wickets apiece, conceding 42, 49 and 59 runs, respectively.

In the second semi-final on Saturday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will take on Northern.

Scores in brief:

Central Punjab 339-9, 50 overs (Tayyab Tahir 60, Rizwan Hussain 56, Zafar Gohar 53, Saad Nasim 39, Raza Ali Dar 37; Hassan Khan 2-42, Mohammad Hasnain 2-49, Shahnawaz Dhani 2-59)

Sindh 212 all out, 36.5 overs (Khurram Manzoor 88, Saad Ali 54; Mohammad Ali 3-31, Ahmed Bashir 2-40, Usman Qadir 2-50)

Player-of-the-match – Zafar Gohar (Central Punjab)

Musa Khan isn't even good enough for his domestic side, while Misbah and Waqar remain gooey eyed over his potential and talent.

Very good innings by Haider so far. He is playing smartly and rotating the strike very well against the spinners. Let's how far he can go.

Shame about the dismissal, but this is the way he needs to bat rather then slog premeditate. Way looking was for a big ton.

I am still very happy about his innings today.

ON the other hand, Rohail Nazir isn't looking good at all, strugling at everything.

Sindh have been fined PKR 20,000 for maintaining a slow over-rate during their Pakistan Cup semi-final match against Central Punjab at the State Bank Stadium on Friday.

Sindh were two overs short of their target after taking into account time allowances and, as such, were charged under Article 2.22 of the PCB Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel that deals with minimum over-rate offences.

Sindh captain Asad Shafiq pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Iqbal Sheikh.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Faisal Afridi and Waleed Yaqub.

Rohail is a consistent scorer

I think we have some potential good odi t20 cricketers in future team

Rohail
Hammad azam
Amad butt
Shadab khan
Faheem ashraf
Usman qadir
Hasnain
Shaheen
Hasan ali
M nawaz
Zafar gohar

Thats a good list of youngish players for a potential squad

Openers we have sharjeel fakhar, babar,

Add iftikhar khusdhdil hafeez , imad
Add haris rauf as a bowler , ahmed bashir has potential

Good 19/20 players for odis and t20.squads

Eventually likes of hafeez , ifthikar , imad can be retired .

I don't see need for imad in long run when we have shadab qadir , zafar and muhammaf nawaz who are better bowlers fielders and batsmen than imad wasim

Brainless batting from Waseem. Should’ve coasted 15 off the last 2 overs. Match tied now. Time for super over.

Why waqas why. Why did you have to bowl a short could have easily won this game now it’s super over I’m tired of KP winning everything ughhh

It’s extremely sad how posters talk about the Pakistan team and the domestic system and all etc but not a single poster here watching this game or Commenting on it and than they have all the suggestions and analysis to give and become pundits when they’ve never ever even seen a single domestic player play SAD.

someone needs to tell these short 80 mph bowlers their bouncers are not dangerous deliveries.

Really competitive match, both teams tried their best to go through to the final. Good stuff.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are just one step away from winning all three first XI domestic titles in the ongoing season after advancing to the Pakistan Cup powered by Servis Tyres – One-Day Tournament 2020-21 final by overcoming Northern in a nail-biting Super Over finish in the second semi-final played at the State Bank Stadium on Saturday.

The final on Sunday (tomorrow) would be a repeat of the epic Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Central Punjab that ended in a historic tie earlier this month at the National Stadium Karachi.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who won the National T20 Cup in Rawalpindi (October 2020) before the joint-win in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy can complete a hat-trick of titles under new coach Abdul Razzaq who took over the reins of the side a month before the commencement of the 2020-21 domestic season.

Imran Khan Snr was the hero for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Super Over as the seasoned pacer dismissed Haider Ali and Rohail Nazir off successive deliveries as Northern only managed two runs after being set 16 runs to win.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa scored 15 runs in their Super Over with Musadiq Ahmed hitting a six and a four off Athar Mehmood.

In the 50-over contest, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who were given a 304-run target, finished their 50 overs at 303 for seven after which the match went to the Super Over.

Sahibzada Farhan (player-of-the-match) was the star of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chase, the right-handed opener posted his sixth List A century as his 132 off 144 balls spearheaded the chase. Farhan who took the attack to the Northern bowlers before settling into play his match defining knock hit a total of 13 fours and two sixes.

Farhan added 127 runs for the first-wicket with Musadiq who scored 62 off 50 balls (eight fours, three sixes) in his swashbuckling knock. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lost the way after the start and stuttered to 271 for seven before the pair of Mohammad Waseem Jnr (18) and Asif Afridi (14) took the match to the Super Over with their unbeaten contributions.

With eight needed off the last two balls, Asif hit Waqas Ahmed for a six before scoring a single off the last ball which forced the tie and the subsequent Super Over.

Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Northern posted a 303 for eight total based on impressive contributions by captain Hammad Azam, opener Haider Ali and wicketkeeper-batsman Rohail Nazir.

Haider took the attack to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bowlers in the first power-play, the right-hander scored 65 off 60 balls (three fours, two sixes). Rohail who batted at number five, provided stability in the middle-order after the loss of some quick wickets, scored 57 off 65 balls with the help of four fours and one six.

Hammad took over the scoring mantle after Northern were reduced to 235 for seven, the right-hander used the long handle to great effect as he took his side past the 300-run mark. Hammad was unfortunate to fall six runs short of his maiden List A century when he was run out attempting a second run, he faced 63 balls in scoring 94 with the help of seven fours and four sixes.

Hammad added 57 runs for the eight-wicket with Athar Mehmood (13). Pacer Mohammad Waseem Jnr and left-arm-spinner Asif Afridi took two wickets each for Northern.

Scores in brief:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa beat Northern in Super Over at the State Bank Stadium

Northern 303-8, 50 overs (Hammad Azam 94, Haider Ali 65, Rohail Nazir 57; Mohammad Waseem Jnr 2-37, Asif Afridi 2-56)

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 303-7, 50 overs (Sahibzada Farhan 132, Musadiq Ahmed 62; Athar Mehmood 2-58)

Player-of-the-Match: Sahibzada Farhan

Final –Sunday:
Central Punjab vs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, State Bank Stadium

Musa Khan isn’t even good enough for his domestic side, while Misbah and Waqar remain gooey eyed over his potential and talent.

Your point is correct, but he didn’t play today due to injury. Bowled well in the last game, would have definitely played today if he was fit. But he was erratic 2 games ago, and that’s his general story so far.

Why’s Zeeshan not playing?

Injured.

He has gone to t10 i believe

Nah, was sitting on the bench.

Is he actually I don’t think so

He is Hassan Ali’s first cousin.

I am still very happy about his innings today.

ON the other hand, Rohail Nazir isn't looking good at all, strugling at everything.

Agreed. Hoepfully he countines to play like this rather then 1 off.

It’s extremely sad how posters talk about the Pakistan team and the domestic system and all etc but not a single poster here watching this game or Commenting on it and than they have all the suggestions and analysis to give and become pundits when they’ve never ever even seen a single domestic player play SAD.

Haha. It’s been like this all season except the very first game I think. You’d think the semifinals would generate more interest.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are fielding first after winning the toss in the final of the Pakistan Cup against Central Punjab

Character building moment for Qasim Akram, lets see if he can get CP to a decent total given the tail give him support.

A very one sided match.

By the way, the fielding standards are so bad - no wonder we are such a poor fielding unit at the international level.

That's it KPK win the final by 8 wickets.

Sahibzada Farhan with a century.

Credit to KPK on a fantastic treble. A feat that won't be easily repeated. They were the best all-format team by a distance.

The Punjab teams and Balochistan were better red ball than white ball teams where they proved too inconsistent. Sindh and Northern had the opposite issue of being sound white ball teams but poor in red ball cricket.

The Pakistan Cup wasn't as enjoyable a viewing experience as the QEA Trophy and NT20. The batsmen were hardly tested at such a small ground where just about anyone could clear those short boundaries if they swung their bat. The pitches were far too easy paced - how will our batsmen ever improve their game against bounce on such surfaces ?

Broadcasting coverage was fantastic this season and credit to PCB. Domestic cricket has never been showcased as well, and frankly I've enjoyed it more than watching international cricket lately. A shame we have to wait 9 months for the new season !

It has to do with poor quality of broadcast and players. Even those who watch these games aren't compelled to post about it.

The victorious KP team

Well deserved win. Sahibzada Farhan in some pretty good form in 50 overs cricket and decent composure by young Mohammad Imran in a pressure match grabbing 3 wickets at a good economy.

KPK has been the best side of this domestic season winning all 3 titles (QAE trophy was shared with CP).

Credit to PCB as well to have a complete domestic season in such a smooth manner during a pandemic.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa made a hat-trick of First XI domestic titles for the 2020-21 season as they clinched the Pakistan Cup powered by Servis Tyres – One-Day Tournament 2020-21 with a resounding seven-wicket victory in the tournament final against Central Punjab at the State Bank Stadium on Sunday.

Opener Sahibzada Farhan who starred in the semi-final victory against Northern with a 132-run innings, took the centre stage in the final with a brilliant unbeaten 103 off 102 balls, the right-hander hit five fours and as many sixes in his innings(seventh century of his List A career) to ensure a commanding victory for his side.

Farhan added 69 runs for the first-wicket with Musadiq Ahmed (33) to provide his side a solid platform for their 240-run chase. Aamer Azmat who batted at number three, scored 45 off 28 balls (four fours, three sixes) in a 66-run second-wicket stand with Farhan.

Iftikhar Ahmed contributed 40 off 35 balls (three fours, two sixes) in a 69-run third-wicket stand with Farhan. Farhan reached his century with a six while Adil Amin played the winning shot as the jubilant Khyber Pakhtunkhwa side completed the chase in a mere 36.1 overs.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who had won the National T20 Cup and the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (joint winners with Central Punjab) completed a hat-trick of titles in the 2020-21 season by adding the glittering Pakistan Cup trophy to their glittering collection besides the PKR5million winners’ prize. Central Punjab bagged PKR2.5million.

Earlier, Central Punjab were asked to bat first by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa captain Khalid Usman. After a 42-run for the first-wicket, left-arm-pacer Mohammad Imran sent back Rizwan Hussain (20). Opener Tayyab Tahir held the innings together as wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end. The right-hander scored 67 off 88 balls (one four, two sixes) top-score for his side.

Tayyab was the fifth-wicket to fall with the score at 167. Raza Ali Dar who added 83 runs for the third-wicket with Tayyab scored 48 off 45 balls with the help of seven fours.

Young all-rounder Qasim Akram scored a gritty 50, he faced 57 balls and hit two fours and two sixes. Central Punjab folded for 239 runs in 47 overs as left-arm-spinner Asif Afridi took five wickets to strangle the Central Punjab batting effort.

Asif bowled 10 overs and conceded a mere 39 runs for his five-wicket haul, Mohammad Imran finished with three wickets for 42 runs in eight overs.

Scores in brief:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa beat Central Punjab by seven wickets at the State Bank Stadium

Central Punjab 239 all out, 47 overs (Tayyab Tahir 67, Qasim Akram 50, Raza Ali Dar 48; Asif Afridi 5-39, Mohammad Imran 3-42)

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 245-3, 36.1 overs (Sahibzada Farhan 103 not out, Aamer Azmat 45, Iftikhar Ahmed 40; Qasim Akram 1-30)

Azam went to play T10, didn't deserve this award, seems like the new flavour of the month in Pakistan cricket is getting undeserved rewards

It’s seems like KPK has won most domestic tournaments since PTI took over there 8 years ago.

Not saying there is a certain connection but perhaps the government there has improved the sporting infrastructure.

Anyways congrats to KPK, they are clearly the strongest domestic side regardless of format.
