WI were needing well over 10 runs an over when he came to bat and he was dismissed with over 30 runs an over needed which is practically impossible. However, during the entirety of his innings there was hardly a semblance of any intent from him and he finished with 22 (29) a shocking innings given the context of the match at that stage.

Your thoughts ?

Innings like these should ensure that a player is dropped for a lengthy period of time. Pollard is just a passenger trying to collect his paycheque.

Trash player. He is the embodiment of Mickey Mouse cricket. No real skills except fielding. Should stick to t20 leagues

This is the best they have. Why would they drop him?

Like most of the WI players he couldnt care less.

Hardly shocking, been like this for a while now.

I never contemplated dropping him, he's a good player when he's hitting the ball well but that today was an exceptional shocker and I just wanted some thoughts on this particular innings.

sorry was replying to another post haha

Yes but very odd display - walked off like job done!

Really ?

I don't really follow WI too closely, but he still has a SR of over 90, only averaging a smidgeon over 25 but this is clearly going by his stats a misnomer.

He hasn't played an ODI or List-A game for 2 years before getting selected for the tri-series iirc.

DJ bravo and the other mercenaries were making a big deal out of it. They don't have the talent.

What happened to Russell though? That guy for sure would've made a difference. Still remember the phainty he delivered to us in the last tournament... oh man.

I guess in tournaments WI bring their full strength side so we get caught off guard.

The question here is not his abilities as an ODI batsman - which can be debated one way or the other.

The question is - why didn't he try?

I dont like Afridi but he does perform once in 10 tries. Can u tell me even 5 good performances from Pollard in any form of the game

I dont remember anything from afridi or pollard but Afridi is the most overrated player ever

Reminds me of Misbah's inning in 2011 WC semi against India, I'm still mad at Misbah for that inning.

Overrated means that they are rated a lot more than what they deserve. Even if Pollard is not as good as Afridi, it doesn't mean that Afridi can't be more overrated by fans. I don't think many people rate Pollard very highly, but some call Afridi one of the best allrounders ever.

Pay him IPL money and he will at least try.

Pollard is a flat track, true bounce monster. Even there, he performs once every few games. He is your typical WI hack.

Biggest hack I have seen is Carlos Brathwaite. One fluke Innings, Bishop went nuts from the commie box and the whole world thought he is special. He is a mediocre batsman and an even more dibbly dobbly trundler.

Only players with an ounce of talent are Gayle and Russel. Even they are hacks.

I don't think most people (who like Afridi) clamour to him due to his actual performance, it's more the kamikaze batting and the oozing charisma that attracts his fans IMO.

Russell's out to "attend to a personal matter".

Like Shahzad was the best we had only a couple of months ago? I don't think so.

His post was out of context, meant to reply to someone else.

However, I agree about non performers - don't belong there.

It really doesn't matter what Pollard does on the international field, he'll continue to be selected. He's just there so that when people tune in they'll recognise a big name on the field due to IPL and other such leagues where he is brilliant in.

West Indies never have really seriously selected a team (as of late anyway). They tend to just pack it with their biggest names regardless of team combination, often packing lots of allrounders needlessly. Unless of course those players are left out of the squad due to disciplinary reasons with the board. They're pretty much only playing with four batsmen (as their wicketkeeper isn't a good bat either) which is downright awful. And the batsmen today played so slowly thinking that their non-batsmen could up the run rate later. Just seems like an entire mess their ODI team, especially with so many players left out of the squad due to issues between players and the board.

Oh right.

Seriously think if guys like Gayle, Bravo (whose slower deliveries would make him like McGrath on uae tracks) and Russell played we'd be properly tested.

Right now it's a b team.

Still given that we got beaten by new zealand's b team, we're seeing some sort of progress.

If Gayle is a hack, you have no idea what is cricket

What is his role in the team?

His bowling is equivalent to that of Kohli or Azhar Ali bowling medium pace whilst his batting is ineffective. Last time he played a substantial knock was in IPL 2010 lol

Never rated him. Sammy and Pollard are both ovverated massively

Sammy atleast has contributed with the bat on numerous occasions - Pollard is a complete dud.

Andre Russell is better than both IMO.

Not anymore :afaq

Why do you think he didn't try ?

Don't know. Maybe WI are mentally shot, maybe their board has sucked the hunger out of them, maybe the heat sapped his energy especially as I don't see WI to be particularly fit.

Could be many reasons. I just didn't see this as a case of lack of skills as much as lack of intent.

He's been like this from the T20 series. In the last T20 where WI barely made 100 in 20 overs, he didn't attempt to clear the fence ONCE. Amir was bowling a leg stump line and he kept taking singles to sqaure leg. He's the most disinterested international player I've seen for a while. Only there for the money.

Windies seriously missed Lendl Simmons, that guy is a monster and he has a beastly record against us.

Thank you WICB for ruining a good series.

YES, this guy.

Russell, this dude, and Gayle, also the other Bravo.

Still remember this guy's epic 83 to tie one of the ODIs against us in 2013. Was smashing pre-ban Ajmal around the park.

Sammy is still rubbish though

Yes Russell is superior than both.

Gayle has always been poor vs Pakistan.

Simple as that, he knew that the game is no where in there hands after Braithwates wicket and stopped pinching the bowl hard...well, does someone remember during Pak innings when he had a chat with Malik and some time after, Malik went for 3 sixes an over? (so he is fixing) lol just kidding.

Drop Pollard for Final ODI: Waqar to West Indies

Sharjah: Legendary Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis believes Kieron Pollard is hurting the West Indies team's morale with his lackadaisical approach and should be axed for Wednesday's final One-Day International against Pakistan.

Waqar said the big-hitting all-rounder "did not even try" as the Caribbean side slid to a 59-run defeat in pursuit of an imposing 338 for victory at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday, reports CMC.

Pollard entered in the 38th over with the West Indies on 194 for four and facing a required run rate of nearly 12 runs an over but displayed little aggressive intent.

"His approach and the way he played in this game and in any of the T20 games, you're destroying the morale of the team," said Waqar on Monday, the second highest wicket-taker in Pakistan Test history with 373 scalps from 87 games.

"The way he batted - he went in with 11 an over or about 12 an over required and he is known for this sort of situation. And he just went in and he hit one boundary and batted the entire time and not going anywhere.

"He wasn't there, he was not in the middle so I feel he needs a break. Whoever you want to bring in, Pollard needs a break. That's how I feel."

Pollard has been a peripheral figure in what has been a wretched series, as the West Indies have lost all five of their games against Pakistan, spanning the three-match Twenty20 series and the ongoing two of the three-match One-Day series.

The right-hander managed nine from 17 balls in the first T20 which the West Indies lost by eight wickets, scored 18 from 13 deliveries in the side's 16-run defeat in the second game and got 16 from 12 balls in the last game which ended in an eight-wicket loss.

So far in the two One-Days, Pollard has scored nine and 22 - the latter innings on Sunday requiring 29 balls and ending with him getting out in the deep in the penultimate over with the fate of the game already decided.

Former West Indies batsman and captain Vivian Richards, also a television analyst for the series, agreed changes were necessary for the final One-Day, with Pollard perhaps sitting out and left-hander Jonathan Carter coming in.

He also argued for Shannon Gabriel to play alongside 19-year-old speedster Alzarri Joseph, who made his debut in the second One-Day.

"I think that if Shannon is fit for the next match why not play the two individuals (Gabriel and Joseph). It's a good suggestion in terms of Pollard, (he) didn't really show up tonight (Sunday)," Richards said on Monday.

"… but those particular two in that sense in the fast bowling department, it would be nice to see Shannon Gabriel back (alongside) Alzarri Joseph."

Bump

West Indian all-rounder Kieron Pollard reached the 11,000-run mark in T20’s to become only the second player after teammate Chris Gayle to achieve the feat. He crossed the barrier during his knock of 41 for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2021).

It comes as no surprise that Gayle tops the list of the highest run-scorers in the T20 format, with a staggering 14,108 runs across the international stage and different leagues around the world. Pollard has now passed the 11k mark, and the third spot is occupied by 39-year-old Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik.
