LAHORE: A powerful explosion in Lahore’s posh area killed at least seven people and left more than 15 others injured on Thursday, Samaa reported.

According to initial reports, the blast occurred inside a commercial building located in Defence Block-Z.

The blast in the busy market was so powerful that it damaged a portion of the building and shattered windowpanes of several nearby buildings. Shops and vehicles parked near the plaza were also affected.

Rescue teams and police rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to hospitals where medics confirmed that seven people have died.

Defence Blast Lhr 23-02

Nature of the blast is yet to be ascertained.

Rescue officials said the blast was caused by a generator. Police did not rule out possibility of any terrorist activity saying that the area was issued a terror alert last week.

The blast came two weeks after an apparent suicide blast killed 13 people at a protest in Lahore, shattering the city's growing sense of security. – Samaa

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajioon. I'm hearing that it was a generator. Hope that's the case

Those who don't want PSL final to be held in Lahore are behind it and we know who are our enemies. Shame on PML (N) Govt.

Lets get some perspective here. There have been blasts across the country. There is more to this than one irrelevant T20 game in Lahore.

As soon as the PSL started, incidents like these started to happen. Lahore was peaceful since long time.

People are brainwashed into blowing them selves up, and killing hundreds of people in the process.

You think people seriously do this in the name of a bloody cricket tournament?!

I know this is a cricket forum, but for god's sake, its just a game. PSL is just not that important.

And why would anyone really care about the PSL being in Lahore? Every other country has a T20 league. No matter what the PCB tell you, no one is out there trying to destory Pakistani cricket. We are quite capable of doing that ourselves!

RIP.

Opened this thread hoping that it's a old thread been bumped but ......

You are not getting my point. But anyway I don't want to argue. Mark my word, after the PSL, things will be alright again.

sorry to hear about the blast but why couldn't they just shift psl to karachi. Lahore is not equal to Pakistan and currently Punjab is the biggest hub of terrorists...

As much as I hate to admit, I too find a bit of truth in this....Things had finally seemed to settle down and the moment PSL took off, stuff like this has started to happen once again.

Anyways Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajioon, May Allah grant sabr to the family of the deceased.

Too many egos at stake..... That's why

It shouldn't happen in Pak this time. I hope sanity prevails.

If that's the case.. That the PSL final is the reason, then it's pretty scary. That some people out there can carry out so money attacks just because they want to stop PSL final. That makes them very powerful then.

If PSL final is causing all this then to hell with this cricket league. No one wants to see innocent life being lost over stupid final. PCB should stop this nonsense and tell everyone that final will take place in Dubai. Dont want to see our people suffer because of cricket matches. Army need to get rid of Nawaz sharif if they want Pakistan to become stable again. We all know v well India is behind this attacks in lahore.

I doubt you have to be that powerful or clever to carry out bomb attacks in Pakistan. It's a relatively poor country and it takes a lot of resources and money to monitor every movement in a place like that.

That said, it's unfair to blame the PSL or cricket for the bomb attacks. The game itself can't be blamed if the enemies of the nation want to hit the PSL finals because it will harm Pakistan's interests.

When I was in Pakistan a few weeks ago, I went to Defence Block Z and it's so sad to see another bomb blast in Pakistan. Instead of banning harmless things like Valentine's Day, maybe the idiots who run this country should look to eradicate terrorism from this country. I blame PSL for this. Lahore was relatively safe prior to the announcement that PSL final would be held there, so in a matter of days we have seen so many bomb blasts. Pakistan isn't safe and those who want PSL in Pakistan need to get a check of reality.

Disagree with a few things there but your second line is spot on.

i dont buy this U.S planning this. At the end of the day despite some shadyness especially in regards to ISI. The Pakistani establishment has close links with the U.S. The U.S doesnt want the Pakistani state to collapse because its in its place will be a group of ragtag Islamist militias running the country who will be hostile to American interests heck the interests of all major powers. And they do not want a country with the nuclear arsenal of Pakistan to fall into the hands of Jihadists. They would rather deal with a somewhat rational actor like the Pakistani state than an unpredictable one like TTP or various Islamist militias.

More than half of PP would be against that decision let alone the PCB.

Inna lillahi wa inna illahi raj'ioon

One question that springs to my mind is why would a terrorist target an underconstruction building? Seems like initial reports may have some truth in them that explosives were stored here which accidentally went off.

Also don't think these attacks have anything to do with the PSL

I don't think it's a terrorist attack here as many are assuming. Even if it is we can't always blame outsiders for everything that happens in Pak. We do have many religious nutcases running around trying to enforce their version on Islam on anything that moves. Panama leaks coming to a decision could be another reason why such things are happening.

Were they planning to demolish the building?

I do not like to indulge in conspiracy theories so I believe the official version. However a cylinder capable to create such destruction poses a huge risk to the masses. They should ban the type of cylinder that can cause such kind of damage from being used.
