LAHORE: A teacher at a private school in the city's Gulshan-e-Ravi area allegedly beat one of his students to death over failure to complete an assignment, the deceased's family claimed on Thursday.

According to the 16-year-old's paternal uncle, Hunain — son of Bilal and a resident of Lahore's Gulshan-e-Ravi neighbourhood — studied in Grade 10 where his teacher, Kamran, beat him for not completing his assignment before coming to class.

Late Hunain's uncle further alleged that Kamran, the teacher, kicked the teen in the back and stomach due to which he lost consciousness but was not immediately shifted to the hospital. Later, however, Hunain succumbed to his injuries after he reached the hospital.

The family, mourning the tragedy at home, demanded justice for their deceased son.

Police said they have arrested the teacher and started an investigation after sending the body for a post-mortem examination.

On the other hand, Punjab Minister for School Education Murad Raas took notice of the incident and directed the chief executive officer (CEO) for school education in Lahore, Tariq Raffiq, to submit a report.

Raas said they would offer complete justice to the family.

Why is this still allowed?
No wonder South Asian countries are considered third world countries
You'd never see anything like this in England. Never.

This is so barbaric.

But then a lot of parent still bear children at home as part of "discipline"

Outrageous and sad.

There was a young student in Bangladesh who died like this.

Teachers in South Asian countries often cross the line.

When I studied back in 90's, physical punishment was only until Grade 6. After that the punishment is usually about standing in Sun or get slapped by all kids in the class

A 10th grade kid is usually too big for the teacher(mostly females) to physically punish.

RIP to a Young life.

Barbaric!

I hope the teacher brought to task fast.

I went to one of the most expensive schools in Pakistan and got beaten at 10th grade. Pakistan is a barbaric society still at its core

I was beaten fairly severely in 4th grade by a teacher in front of the whole class. Ruler, bending me over and slapping me on my back (maybe even punching, can't remember), my face, the whole deal. When I came home, I complained to my parents and it was obvious to them as well that I was beaten quite badly. My parents went to the next parent-teachers meeting and complained to the principal. The principal went to the teacher who did this. The teacher denied the incident ever happened. There was only one other student present in the room at that time that would've seen witnessed the beating, and she didn't say anything (nor she was asked to). I was young and naive, so I was shocked that the teacher would lie right in front of everyone.

Anyway, I believe my story was later corroborated and that teacher was talked to quite severely in the end. She wasn't fired, and she even taught me once more, but I don't remember her doing even anything minor.

Some of the teachers are downright barbaric in Pakistan. I don't know how they keep getting away with it (seems like the guy in OP post got away with it before as well). I hear that school policies are supposed to not allow this, but they don't care. That was the case with my school as well.

May god bless the soul of that poor kid ! But truly in south asia it's pretty common to have teacher-student relationship as master-slave

LAHORE: A law and order situation was reported at Gulshan-i-Ravi late on Friday when several charged students set the private school on fire in the wake of the death of their colleague who was tortured to death by the schoolteacher.

According to the initial reports, several people, most of them students of the American Lycetuff School, turned up there all of a sudden with carrying petrol bottles.

They threw petrol bottles on the school branch where 10th class student Hunain Bilal was allegedly tortured to death by his teacher Mohammad Kamran and set it on fire.

The heavy contingent of the police was immediately dispatched while the fire brigades also rushed to the site.

Iqbal Town Division SP Mohammad Ajmal said the police managed the situation and arrested some of the attackers red-handed.

He said most of the students of the same school were among those who vandalized the school building late on Friday. However, the Rescue 1122 firefighters acted timely and curtailed the fire.

He said the fire was controlled before it spread to the entire building. Only a few rooms were damaged.

He said the police were trying to find out the miscreants who provoked the underage students to commit such crime.

The deployment of the police was intensified outside the school building in order to avoid any untoward incident.

“Protestors have dispersed due to the timely response of the police,” the SP said. The police arrested the schoolteacher shortly after he thrashed and tortured Hunain.

"If you dont beat children, you will not get discipline...

In our days we were trashed with belts and cloth hangers, and we turned out fine

Nowadays kids are so ill mannered because they are not hit by teachers at school"

Just some of the random comments you will hear if you ever criticize physical punishment in public....

You'd never see anything like this in England. Never.

Aha, but that's why desi kids are so studious and well behaved

Those western kids have no manners and are into drugs because there is no discipline in their society

Is this supposed to be sarcasm?

Disgustingly backwards. It's horrible to hear that even now, barbaric idiots like these are given jobs where they should be responsible for the safety of their students.

Is this supposed to be sarcasm?

Yes from my side it was sarcasm

But there are plenty of older generation people who believe this. The "Islamic" school I went to had teachers constantly pointing out the "decadent" west

I think key is balance.

You don't want to hurt young children to the point they die. You also don't want to pamper them up too much so that they become rebellious.

Definition of balance differs from culture to culture, teacher to teacher and school to school, and of course parent to parent

Imo, beating should be prohibited.

However, If a teacher or any other person does justifies beating a children to install discipline, then he or she should at least try to acquire knowledge about where one may hit with no threat to any deformity or life whatsoever. The issue is, people want to follow this principle aren't ready to learn the basics.

Every school has their share of psychotic teachers. Most of the time times school rules prohibit them from going over the top. In my school a teacher slapped a student couple of time so hard that his eardrum was damaged. Due to protest by parents that teacher was fired from school.

I was beaten once in my school days in Pakistan. The reason was i had forgotten a book at home i was beaten with a stick by my teacher and then was taken to the head teacher who also hit me. As soon as the school finished i told my dad and he dealt with the teacher and the principle in the same manner and beat them with the same stick. My dad said from day one to the head teacher never to hit me and if something tell my dad. So i guess they didn't get the message but they sure did after that.
