Yes in Urdu. If anything North Indians especially Delhi area people can speak Urdu better than Hindi

My parents and all Pakistanis I know over here speak in English with Indians, most Indians where I live don't speak much Urdu or Hindi and I live in a state with one of the biggest Indian populations.

Pakistanis and Indians communicate in a mixture of Urdu/Hindi. They are very similar. The Punjabis (of India/Pakistan) speak in Punjabi
If you speak any of Hindi or Urdu, you can easily understand the other one. I'd say they are 95% similar.

BIMARUs speak better Urdu compared to Pakistanis. The Punjabi accent ruins it for me personally.
Only the Songs in movies use Arabic and Persian words like Mohabbat, Ishq, Mehboob, Ikrar etc..
In colloquial Hindi, people use the word Pyar. No Hindi speaking person uses Pakistani Urdu like we see in the PTV programs.
Most of the people who can speak Hindi can easily understand Urdu. We do not understand many words in Urdu (the Persian and Arabic ones), but we get the gist from the context.

Idk if you've been to Pakistan or met a Pakistani in north America. Most Pakistanis don't have a thick Punjabi accent when they speak urdu in fact I've heard many of my Indian-americans compliment Pakistanis on their Urdu accent kinda like how the way Fawad Khan speaks Urdu.
I don't know what a bimaru is but I don't think Indians speak Urdu/Hindi that well, we get a lot of Indian students hear and they have a distinct accent. Pakistanis sound like what you would see on Pakistani tv or the news.

I never knew Hindi and Urdu were similar. They use to make us take Hindi as 3rd language in school, I never passed Hindi. I use to scribble some nonsense in the answer sheet. Also only Bollywood move I every watched fully is 1942 A Love Story.
Only Hindi I know is “Ek gau me, ek kiss an rehadada.” Tamil people may understand this.

In which language do you think Imran khan and the Indian anchor is talking in front of an Indian audience?
Hindi with few English words. At least that’s what’s it sounds to me.

You can't expect a Pakistani Pashtun like Imran khan to be fluent in Hindi, no? If it was a very different language to Urdu.
Imran is talking in Urdu and the anchor in Hindi but the languages are similar apart from a few words that they are easily able to understand and communicate.
Imran is referring to Pakistan as 'Mulk' in that interview ( Mulk is Urdu word for Country)
A Hindi speaker would use the word 'Desh ' for country instead of Mulk. These are the only minor differences that one could notice.
Perhaps your neighbors are mostly South Indians?

Uh, since when did Biharis start speaking better Urdu than Pakistanis
Lucknow is in UP and people speak Khalis Urdu there only place in India where they speak terrible form of Urdu is Hyderabad.

Former Allahabad, former Lucknow, etc are just few select cities in the so-called BIMARUs, states which encompasse hundreds of millions, and even there only some Muslims speak khalis Urdu.
Hindus talks like jindagi jindabad.

Not sure what you on about mate, you don't even live in India, take a break and visit some places.
There are two schools of Urdu in India(as per Javed Akhtar) ,Lucknow and Delhi and they do have rivalry of sorts. Ofcourse the passion for Urdu and Shayari is not like before but many youngsters are getting into it.
And I'm a Hindu my whole family knows the difference between Z and J even in the Hindi "Z" (ज़) is there, its easy to mock but better to see the difference in reality and what happens "online".

You included the BIMARU states as a whole who speak better Urdu than us which is certainly not the case. Lucknow, yes they speak better Urdu except for a minor twist that they refer to themselves in plural like "hum" where "mein" should be used.
And no Urdu is terribly spoken in a lot of places other than Hyderabad.

At work, I make sure I converse in Urdu/Hindi with my Pakistani and Indian work colleagues - they really appreciate it and I can get a lot of work done quicker

Just wondering, do they still speak Punjabi in Lahore? I know a lot of the parents over there like to bring their kids up speaking Urdu, just wondering if they've managed to kill off the Lahori dialect yet?
Hindi and Urdu are same. One uses sanskrit words lavishly and the other uses Persian/Arabic words lavishly.
I do not consider them as serious languages. You can make any number of languages the way Hindi and Urdu are made.
When Indians and Pakistanis meet, they speak to each other in softer form of Urdu and Hindi. That is not too much hardcore Arabic and Sanskrit words in their communication so that both can understand better.
I spoke to a few Pakistanis and it is clear that when they speak to me, they do not use too many Arabic words which can be hard for me to grasp. Same with me. I do not use too many Sanskrit words.

hindi are urdu are technically two different evolutions of hindustani, which was primarily a north indian (delhi and UP language liberally sprinkled with persian loan words)
muslims injected greater arabic loan words into hindustani and it evolved into a unique dialect of hindustani, and as is with most dialects the context and grammer usually imply meanings of unknown words and hence pakistanis and urdu speaking indians can communicate with little difficulty.
urdu derives from the term zubane-urdue-muala, i.e. the language of the exalted camp, namely the ruling classes of the army, urdu itself as a term doesnt make much sense, its like calling a language "army". imo urdu is still a dialect of the core hindustani language (although not many speak the original dialect of the language, from my knowledge).
