This has been an issue that is whispered about in the UK (Luton Southhall, Leicester etc this issue goes on big time) so it isn't a surprise that elements of it have been uncovered in the USA.

This is a case of dalits being mislead and transported to the USA as slave labour. Hopefully this is the straw that breaks the camels back and we get more news of these poor dalits striking back against their masters. Forbes also make a point of linking this sect back to Modi.....

The article is a difficult one to paste but here are some excerpts.

"A large Hindu temple in central New Jersey was accused Tuesday of forcibly holding hundreds of construction workers from India on its grounds and requiring them to work over 80 hours a week, a massive labor case some experts have linked to pervasive discrimination against members of India’s marginalized social castes — even in the United States."

"The workers’ passports were allegedly confiscated shortly after they arrived in the United States, and they were forced to live in a spartan, fenced-in and tightly monitored compound and prohibited from leaving temple grounds unsupervised."

"Many of these workers belonged to the Dalit caste, which is the lowest group in India’s centuries-old social hierarchy, the lawsuit alleges. Dalits were historically denied access to education or land ownership, and even though India’s 1947 constitution banned caste discrimination, they’re still often marginalized and forced into undesirable, low-paying lines of work. Yashica Dutt, a New York-based writer and journalist who belongs to the Dalit caste, told Forbes she’s not surprised some of this stigma has reached the United States. People hold onto their caste biases, she said, and employers around the world take advantage of desperate Dalit laborers.

CRUCIAL QUOTE
It's an extremely common practice back in India, where Dalit wage laborers are exploited and severely underpaid, because their work is not seen as worthwhile,” Dutt told Forbes. “Unsurprisingly, [these practices] are transported directly to the United States.”

TANGENT
Most Americans aren’t familiar with the intricacies of India’s caste system, Dutt says, making it easier for mistreatment to fly under the radar. But this isn’t the first time a U.S. employer has faced allegations of caste discrimination. The state of California sued tech company Cisco last year after a staffer claimed his supervisor discriminated against him based on caste, a charge the company denied, and some Indian Americans who belong to the Dalit caste have indicated they fear employment discrimination and marginalization at college.

SURPRISING FACT
The BAPS Hindu sect is influential in India and the United States. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the sect’s former leader, and a representative from the New Jersey temple participated in National Day of Prayer celebrations at the White House last year."

I'm glad that this issue is being exposed and hope these poor labourers get justice.

this is a clear case of worker exploitation by dubious agents.
I used to hear about this happening in Middle east construction market before, now seems to have tightened up.

Indians are the worst exploiters of other Indians. Nothing new here.

And its mainly the people from the uneducated classes who get into unskilled labour. Many of them are non-dalits too, and all are equally exploited.

I hope the US government cracks down brutally on these exploiting beasts and expels them from the country

Shock. Horror.

I get inside news as I am in construction. Not a Dalit issue this one, in-spite of the hard work put in by news writer lol.
Seems more to be a case of dubious recruitment agents, manpower suppliers and construction contractors who take advantage of poor Indian labour regulations.
Precisely the reason that we have a bad reputation and major industries find it difficult to set up base in India.

Caste system is disgusting and is shocking how it still is a thing.

Its a issue of dubious contractor exploiting labourers. Temple authorities have nothing to do with it. Ofcourse the OP tries his creativity with the headlines.

could you explain how this case wasnt exploiting the dalits but based upon dubious recruitment agents, manpower suppliers and construction contractors who take advantage of poor Indian labour regulations.,

thanks

And you forgot to add that these “dubious contractors” were white Christian Caucasian Americans, no?

Who hired the contractors?

In US you hire accredited contractors. You dont pick random guy from the street. The labourers were employees of the construction company and not BAPS.

This is why you subcomtract your projects, you are not responsible for the employees of the sub contractor or contractor.

I actually toned the headline down a bit bro

the actual headline is a lot more accusatory than what I edited to.

New Jersey Hindu Temple Allegedly Forced Laborers To Work For $1.20 Per Hour

I personally edited it so that it doesn't reflect badly on the temple as much.

You intentionally mentioned dalits to show it as a caste issue.

I'm just happy the British gov hasn't passed the Hindutava 'bill' where caste based discrimination would've been imported from India, legally. Thank God.

Yay!

To these Dalit's just living in America even as beggars would be an accomplishment. They'll survive one way or another or be sent back home after the temple has been built. No one in this world cares about poor people. Welcome to the cesspit that is becoming planet earth full of hate, poverty and war. This temple will only be frequented by the great Brahmins who see the Dalit's as their slaves.

India's Strong Reaction After 'Extremists' Deface Hindu Temple In California

New Delhi: India has sought an investigation into a prominent Hindu temple in California being vandalised with pro-Khalistan slogans and anti-India graffiti. The incident came to light when images were shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the Hindu-American foundation.

The photos showed walls of Newark's Swaminarayan Mandir Vasana Sanstha spray-painted with hateful slogans against India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Reacting to the incident, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said such 'extremists' should not be given space. He underlined that the Indian Consulate in San Francisco has already taken up the matter with the US authorities and an investigation is underway.

"I have seen it. Extremists, separatists, and such forces should not be given space. Our consulate there complained to the government and the police and an inquiry is underway," Mr Jaishankar told reporters.

The Indian embassy in San Francisco strongly condemned the incident and said that it had hurt the sentiments of the Indian community.

"This incident has hurt the sentiments of the Indian community. We have pressed for quick investigation and prompt action against the vandals by the US authorities in this matter," they wrote on X.

According to the temple administration, the incident took place on Thursday night.

"One of the devotees, who lives close to the shrine, discovered anti-Hindu and anti-India graffiti in black ink on an exterior wall of the building, and the local administration was immediately informed," Bhargav Raval, the spokesperson for the temple administration, told ANI.

Newark Police are investigating the matter, which they believe was a targeted act.

"Based on the graffiti, we believe it was a targeted act, and it's going to be investigated with full thoroughness. I can also tell you that as a member of the Newark Police Department and the Newark community, we're deeply saddened when these types of acts occur, and we think they're senseless and they have no room," Jonathan Arguello, a captain in the Newark Police Department said.

This is not the first time a Hindu temple has been targeted, as similar incidents have occurred in the past, both in the US and its neighboring Canada. India has earlier expressed concern over escalating activities by Khalistan supporters and clamped down on organisations and individuals trying to stoke separatist sentiment in different countries.

In August, a temple in Canada's Surrey was vandalised allegedly by Khalistani supporters. Pro-Khalistan posters were put up on the walls and the gate of the Lakshmi Narayan Mandir, in Surrey - one of the oldest temples in British Columbia.

The posters called for Canada to investigate India's "role" in the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on June 18.

Canada accused India of having a role in Nijjar's killing but hasn't yet provided India with evidence for the allegations. The US has also arrested an Indian for alleged involvement in a plot to murder Khalistan terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

India has called the allegations false and baseless, claiming that they will investigate if the countries provide proof.

"If someone gives us any information, we will definitely look into it," Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently told the Financial Times.

"If a citizen of ours has done anything, good or bad, we are ready to look into it. Our commitment is to the rule of law," PM Modi said.
