Sri Lanka cricket have dropped Lasith Malinga from their ODI squad scheduled to take on Pakistan from next week. Sri Lanka and Pakistan will play five ODIs and three T20Is. The last T20I will be played at Gaddafi International Stadium, Lahore. Malinga, ever since his return to international cricket, has been ordinary and hasn’t provided regular breakthroughs. He last represented Sri Lanka in the 0-5 drubbing received against India at home in August-September. The 34-year-old picked up only 3 scalps in the ODIs and followed it with a solitary wicket in the one-off T20I.
On the other hand, former skipper Angelo Mathews has failed to make the list as well. Mathews, already out of the ongoing Test series, isn’t deemed fit following a calf injury. The first ODI will be played on October 13 in Dubai.
Sri Lanka and Pakistan last met in an ODI during the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 wherein the latter emerged victorious by 3 wickets, and were the eventful winners as well.
