Leicestershire signs Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood for all format [Update at post#182]

Structural changes take time to pay dividends and it requires good leadership and honest intentions from all stakeholders involved as well.
Shaheen replaced Babar and the result still was 1-4. Captaincy isn’t the issue, or the only issue, quality of players is the real problem.

Sahib Zada Farhan would be a big failure at international level. He doesn’t have the technique to survive at international cricket.
Saud Shakeel would be another 125-130 SR player.
Abdullah Shafiq has the ability to become a 145 SR player with 35+ average but he needs to work hard on his game. He has a good technique and natural ability to play lofted shots, if he can work on some of his shots, he can be a very good all-format player.
Muhammad Harris - Right now he is a one-trick pony. He would not succeed at international level if he doesn’t add more shots to his reportire.
Shan Masood - not a T20 player.
Saman Agha - He has the ability to become a good lower order player.

Pakistan needs to dig deeper to find good players. Except for 2 players, no one else will make a positive impact at international level.

Sharjeel time is over, he will be leftie Azam.
He doesn't even boss it in domestics and leagues now.

I would consider from below options:

1. Saud
2. Babar (he has increased his strike rate over the last year, better than Rizwan and should be more relaxed if not captain)
3. Shan
4. Fakhar (leave him alone at 4, not because he can't bat higher because we have zero middle order options and only one that can attack spin in middle overs)
5. M Haris
6. Haider Ali (can't think of any other options at the moment. He played a couple of okay innings in psl)
7. Aamer Jamal
8. Mehran Mumtaz
9. Nasim
10. Muhammad Ali
11. Abrar (if spin wicket else Abbas)

Backups:
Saim, Usama Mir, Ihsanullah, Zaman, Hurraira, Abdullah Shafiq, Haseebullah, Qasim Akram

Rest/drop Haris, Shaheen, Rizwan, Imad, Chacha, Amir, Azam, Usman, for indefinite period.

Bowling will become weaker than current t20 side but there should be no conflicts in team and its building for future. Over time can reconsider Shaheen and Haris if needed.

If resting these lot Haris, Shaheen, Rizwan, Imad, Chacha, Amir, Azam, Usman, for indefinite period. Add Babar to it..
That itself is as half won..

I would take that team , adding Khawaja Nafay , Jahandad Khan , Salman ali agha and Irfan Khan Niazi in that team..

  1. Fakhar (C)
  2. Abdullah Shafiq
  3. Shan Masood
  4. Khawaja Nafay
  5. Haris
  6. Salman Ali agha
  7. Irfan Khan Niazi
  8. Aamer Jamal
  9. Nasim Shah
  10. Mehran Mumtaz
  11. Mohammed Ali
  12. Abbas Afridi (Ihsanullah if fit)
  13. Abrar
  14. Saud Shakeel
  15. Haseebullah
  16. Jahandad Khan

Salman ali agha yes , he needs to play regularly will definitely become a fine player with more chances ...

Babar , Rizwan and their preference for friends are destroying his chances and ability, was part of 50 over CWC never given a chance , played Ifthikar Ahmed in all 10 games but to fail again and again... Same story in T20 WC , these two ICC tournaments would have given him much needed confidence to go into the next level... Instead nothing player like Ifthi chahcha who has zero future was given the preference, for this alone both Rizwan and Babar should be shown the exit door forever.... Teach them that team and the game is bigger than these midgets..

New ball seamer Ben Coad is not quite fit enough to return from the back injury which has sidelined him since the defeat against Sussex at Hove in mid-May, while Yorkshire will require a new captain for the week given Shan Masood is unavailable because of concussion suffered in Thursday’s Roses T20. Jonny Tattersall is the most likely candidate to lead the side.

Shan Masood scored 18 off 22 against Derbyshire in the first innings, with a decent strike rate. I've noticed a slight change in his game approach since he started playing in the County Championship. Perhaps he's trying to adapt to the 'Bazball' style, tailoring it to English conditions.

Shan Masood tried to play aggressively but couldn't survive for long, being bowled after scoring 13 (8) with one four and one six against Worcestershire.

Shan Masood's struggling campaign continues in the Vitality Blast 2024 as he was dismissed for a first-ball duck when his team Yorkshire Vikings needed him the most to chase huge target.

Shan Masood had a disappointing start for Yorkshire in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, scoring only 24 runs off 35 deliveries against Surrey. He struggled to find stability at the crease from the beginning of the innings.

And struggles continue for Shan Masood in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup 2024. He earned a golden duck, scoring 0(1) against Nottinghamshire. In 2 matches of the One-Day Cup so far, he has scored only 24 runs at a strike rate of 66.66.

Shan Masood is currently batting against Sussex in the Group B encounter of One Day Cup 2024.

5 Off 10 ATM.

Shan Masood will be in action today for Yorkshire against Gloucestershire in the One-Day Cup game.

Played a good knock in the last game, will be looking to carry his form in this game as well. Let's see.

Shan Masood scored 76 off 68 against Gloucestershire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup 2024, his second fifty in three days. He is now averaging 40.75 in 4 innings, with a somewhat worrisome strike rate of 89.07.

Bad luck for shan as his team lost by 36 runs.

Shan Masood will be in action today for Yorkshire against Leicestershire as his team is batting first.

He is in good form atm and will be looking to get 3 figures this time. Having good practice before the upcoming Bangladesh series.

Shan Masood's stay was a short one today. Gone for 14 off 17 balls.

Leics sign Pakistan batter and ex-Yorkshire captain Shan Masood

Leicestershire have signed former Yorkshire captain Shan Masood for all formats of the upcoming season.

The 35-year-old Pakistan international finds himself back in Division Two of the County Championship with the Foxes having helped Yorkshire to promotion last season.

The middle-order batter has amassed more than 25,000 runs for club and country across all formats since first making his first-class debut in 2007.

Masood, who also previously played for Leicestershire's regional rivals Derbyshire, will miss the start of the County Championship campaign as it overlaps with the commitments he has in the Pakistan Super League.

He will join the Foxes for the beginning of the T20 Blast in May.
