Hameed is has done nothing wrong and nor should he on this featherbed. One of my fave player to watch, ever since his debut series all those years ago. A couple of short balls have been mistimed though.

I can't make a judgement on whether his mindset that got him out in the 30s in tests has changed!

Another lovely straight drive by Ali. He seems to really focus on playing in the proverbial "V"

Is Azhar Ali struggling to get the ball away or is he is just playing really slowly. What are your impressions of him.

I thought its good....if he is middling the ball then he is just showing how to occupy crease in long games.Thats just what he told in his interview , and guy's proving it (tho against a low side but thats all he can do)

In all honesty Ali has been hitting the fielders, particularly in the covers. A lot of those shots (5+) would have gone for 4. So it's difficult to judge strike rotation when a guy is timing so well and specifically not looking for singles.

You can't be a Pakistani if you look for singles.....very few exceptions (Younus, Fawad.........er, I think that's it)

Its a mode of dismissal, its different from retired hurt

Retired out is when a batsman voluntarily loses his wicket and refuses to bat anymore in the innings
 
Coz the bowlers are not great and it's easier to try to hit boundaries! Selectors would have no idea what kind of form he was in if he just nudged it around. Hitting the Ball cleanly, even to fielders makes him more noticeable. On this pitch even I could nurdle it around!
 
well after Hameed's knock i fully expect him to feature against the Aussies, i think the management will go for experience in the first test and the team is likely to be

I would prefer Umar Amin to Farhat but he and Butt have done well the last two series. I also think Malik has no place in the test team but him being Afridi's mate and "experienced" he's likely to get the nod.

True...I guess I was hoping that Azhar was in the Younis or Fawad mould..

Look to be fair on the young lad, I maybe completely wrong and he may turn out to be awsome...

Lets reserve our judgement...
 
It'd be wrong to give Farhat the place and he hasn't done well, he's done ok, no 50s from him, that's not enough at this level. He needed a score here and he didn't get it, Amin got a score before hence he should get the place.

I think it would bring the team morale down is Farhat is given the place ahead of Amin.

I hope Waqar and Afridi give Amin a go instead as Waqar said in the press conference that he wanted youngsters.
 
The streaky-ish way Malik is playing it looks like he knows he's in the final test team already...

Nearly got caught hitting straight. Went for 4 instead.

Pretty much agree with your line-up except one thing...

The weather is set to be overcast and rainy for the entire test match and you simply cannot play Kaneria in those conditions at Lords...We have Malik and Afridi to bowl spin and kaneria would be a big no no in those conditions..We either need another seamer or just go with another batsman (which would be negative in my opinion)...Ideally you want another fast bowling allrounder!!

But 4 seamers is the way to go at Lords and particularly bearing in mind the weather forecast!

Thinking about it a little more, I think they might decide to have Afridi bat at number 8, play three seamers and include an extra batsman...

Azahr ALi shouldn't retire out after his 50 he should go one get a century cause of the way he has been playing
 
I don't think Azhar or Amin would get a go in the first test really no matter how much they score here. I can be wrong but that's more likely than anything.

Hameed and Farhat fulfill PCB's "experienced" criteria.

I agree that this will most likely be the team although I don't agree with choosing sifarshi Damad over Amin. Even Azhar will be a better opening option than Damad.

Well the conditions may be overcast but the pitch at Lords is very batsmen friendly. I think the toss will be very important as who ever wins will bat no matter how overcast it is. The last few tests the teams batting first have racked up a total of minmum 400 runs, so i think spin will play an important role. The Aussies tend to struggle against spin bar Clarke and Ponting so i think a specialist spinner is necessery. Malik is a part time spinner and Afridi is way more effective in ODI/T20's where the batsmen get out trying to attack him. In tests it's a different kettle of fish, plus Danny and Afridi have done well in tandem before.

That would be negative indeed. Unlikely to happen IMO, knowing Afridi's mindset.
 
so pakistan actually 187-1 even though its officially 187-4.
good preperations, without our full team.
 
Bad move, the strike shows that he was not batting brilliantly.
Should have been given a chance to let loose
 
Amin comes to bat. I've always supported this lad, but I hope the management over there have already made up their mind and they're not letting Amin bat, in this game, just for the sake of it.

As if he's not in the plans for the first couple of tests then it would have been wiser to send in K.Akmal as he hasn't been able to get any test batting practice at all in this tour so far.

just realized Kamran isn't playing. Well, then Zulqarnain would have been a better option, if and only if Amin is not in their plans.

I honestly think it's up all for grabs in the batting lineup...for me, only 4 of the 7 places are actually confirmed.

Sorry my friend but i dont think you've followed the history of Lords..Especially since the errection of the new stand, whenever the clouds arrive the ball starts to move around!

Also, for the last few years spinners have been largely ineffective at Lords...

Even in the last match against Bangladesh, the sky was clear and none of the spinners were effective...Bangla's spinners didnt do anything and Swanne went the entire match without taking a wicket...

This happened in 2006 too, against both Pakistan (the drawn match) and also against Sri Lanka where Murali and the other Sri Lanka spinners failed to do any real damage...

Trust me, when its couldy (as it is expected to be this time around) Lords is a seamers wicket and a spinners grave yard!

The way I see it there is only one place for one of Azhar, Amin or Hameed.

As we would expect given the batting line-up Pak have put out Butt looked the best batsman on show today. A step above the other guys. No issues whatsoever!

Good batting pratice for the boys but Leics have a very average bowling attack.

In the Aus warm up match, Steve Smith is struggling. He is in his 20th over, gone for 69 without a wicket.
 
Hmmm...good to see Azhar Ali showing patience and good temperament. Never easy to come out and play after landing in the country less than 48 hours ago.

Malik is looking horrible. It may be becase he isn't playing for his place but he's been dropped off a spinner and now dropped in the covers off Wayne White.
White's quick and gets good bounce, making both batsman look uncomfortable. Beaten Amin a couple of times too.

Oh and now Maliks lbw. Plumb. Not wholly unexpected that wicket.
 
Hopefully this failure by Malik means he wont be picked for 1st test!

Malik doesn't have the technique to play test match cricket. Lords has been flat for years, maybe Malik can score some runs there.
 
A chance for Amin and Zoni to bat and get some runs and time in the middle!

Liking Azhar Ali.Cannot believe people want him to be more aggressive,its a TEST !

The last thing we need is for them to slog in a T20-style manner.This mindset by fans seriously sucks,no wonder why we Pakistanis produce batsmen with no temperament at all.

You are allowed to pick up singles and to rotate the strike in test matches, especially against a county attack!!!

Having said that, lets hope he does well in all his future endeavours!
 
Amin may be batting himself out of the starting XI. White is all over him. Played and missed numerous times. Then edging past where 2nd slip would stand.

Who cares about the result against some county side ? Its about getting used to the conditions and get some time out in the middle,this is his debut for the national team and surely with more experience he'll open up.Give him a chance geez,a youngster's on debut,scores runs and we slag him off for being too slow ! Thank god he's scoring runs at least,no matter how fast or slow.Rather have a 50 off 100 than a golden duck.

ZQ is awful. He would struggle to get into the Foxes' 2nd XI.*I was one advocating his inclusion in the test team but after watching this I may have to revise my judgement.

As a conservative estimate he could gave been out, from my count, 13 times by now to both spin and pace. On top of that he just nearly caused a run out. I'm just waiting for White to put him out of his and our misery.

SOSami, what were you're first impressions of Azhar Ali's technique? Better than the likes of Latif, Manzoor etc?
