For most Pakistani Balochistan is only a topic when there is an attack by BLA militants and our soliders are martyred. Time to change that.

In this thread I am going to share news from balochistan. It's mostly going to be tweets but everyone else is free to join in.

Rule: There might be some unpleasesnt news to but s let's try to keep this thread free from politics as much as possible and the debate on militancy in Balochistan.

This guy is supposed to be some sort of a "mini-celebrity" on twitter when it comes to Pakistani patriotism.

1. Respect to the soldiers and their daily sacrifices.

2. Why use the words "students" or "missing persons", though? Why not just call them militants or even terrorists?

He shamelessly demonized a large group of people and further isolated those who are missing their loved ones.

PTM may be wrong due to their inclination towards Afghan-Nationalism but that doesn't mean there aren't any legitimate concerns of people effected by military operations and the way counter-terrorism operations are conducted. Have we forgotten the Sahiwal incident, which represents a unique example, since it happened in the more developed part of the country in front of many eye-witnesses and also received media coverage accordingly.

Still we are quick to normalize extra-judicial killings in our patriotism.

People in PTM wre crying about military not bombing the hideouts a decade before. Now that the military did take action they're crying about something opposite. Urdu speaking people like Syed1 have been as discriminated against Pakhtuns have, we don't see them setting up idiotic anti-state organisations. There were also pictures which showed the military met PTM and agreed to their demands only to be stabbed in the back again.

Injustice in Pakistan is against everyone, the only people who it isnt against is the poor. Pakthuns, Punjabis, Sindhis even Baloch in their province have all been in power of the actual state multiple times. PPP is Sindhi, Zia was Urdu speaking, so was Mush, Imran has Pakhtun ancestry. Yeah discrimnation exists but it was obvious from PTM rallies they were interested in abusing the state, not getting their rights.

Sir perhaps you are unaware but recently some of the woke crowd were up in arms on twitter when two ex-students of LUMS (I believe) were killed in Baluchistan. The woke crowd was claiming the students were killed because they opposed oppression.

Later it turned out the students had joined BLA which is an internationally recognized terrorist organization and were directly involved in the IED blast that killed half a dozen Pak Army soldiers in April.

It is nice to act all woke and intellectual but please first get all the facts

No need to address me as Sir.

Yes, I saw that trend on twitter it was dumb to put it lightly. It's one of the many reasons why I don't support the "liberal" types in Pakistan.

I am not acting woke or intellectual. I don't care about winning imaginary internet points. Don't project any of your own insecurity on to me.

I care about principle of empathy and justice.
I care about criticism without exaggeration.
I care about credibility and authenticity.
I care about being my own person and developing my own thoughts.
I care about ending the cycle of blind hatred.
I care about being able to visit Quetta and not having to fear for my life for being a Punjabi.
I care about encouraging long term harmony in our region.

Army has be involved in unjust extra-judicial killings. We don't know the extent of it. The critics might exaggerate it for their own personal reasons. The Army apologists might be whitewashing it to protect their pride. That's why there needs to a proper investigation on this matter and a candid public debate. However, that's not possible right now because both sides resort to exaggerations, lies and manipulations.

The two students who turned militants, got what they deserved. It doesn't mean it's in anyway okay to demonize all the 'missing persons' as actual militants.

This person was highlighting the bravery of our Armed forces but ended up doing more bad than good.

There is a certain defense forum run by Army kids. See how they justify the use of iron fist and extra judicial killings. See how they joke about an "encounter" happening. I am against all of it and consider it to do more harm than good.

You have in the past on this very forum expressed agreement about extra-judicial killings. I find it hard to believe that you will be honest in your examination of this issue.

How can the cycle of extra-judicial killings ever stop if we can't even express our disagreement with the act? When will we finally strengthen our judicial system so that justice through proper channels and institutes is possible?

Urdu speaker from Lahore
no there's 0 discrimination we faced, our family(by which I mean atleast about 500 people) and most of the Urdu speakers we know have been killing it financially and the worst of the worst off are lower middle class at best
In which country would a migrant cammunity with "discrimination" be so well off especially in a third world country

So our cammunity can never be compared to other ethnicities cause we have it real good in Pakistan we are the Asians or Jews of pakistan

People in Karachi have problems only because they are in Karachi (with huge power struggle due to its strategic position)

I disagree with PTM so there was no need to highlight the many flaws they have.

Our tribal areas has seen one military operation after another since 2004. They may have been justified but the collateral damage inflicted needs to be repaired in someway.

The state has either failed to protect them from constant drone attacks or was directly involved in drone attacks. There are documented reports showing those drone attacks killed many innocents. Just remember the Salala incident where NATO bombed Pakistani military by mistake. If it can happen to the military check-post by mistake just imagine how many innocents may have been killed by mistake.

My point is that we need to take the rhetoric away from PTM and other anti-state elements by reaching out to the locals and allow them to properly voice their grievances.

Extra-judicial killings for instance needs to stop and the concerns of the victims investigated. What's so wrong about this one view of mine.

Awesome thread. Looking forward to see the real side of balochistan

I don't think this thread could ever show the 'real' side of Balochistan.

My main aim is to bring some spotlight to the region. I want us to think about it more often than when there is a terrorist attack on the armed forces.

The militants in Balochistan may perhaps be supported by foreign interest groups, there is another thread to debate this issue, meanwhile our security forces are taking care of the militant threat on the ground. At the same time what we, the rest of the nation, can do is pay more attention to the region and its current affairs.

Its to do with the policing system which is currently running on corrupt officers and will take years to root out. Its nothing to do with the ridiculous nonsense PTM are spouting about. The officer in question killed hundreds of people, Pakthun and non-Pakthun alike. Sadly when areas are bombed people are killed, I doubt they are being killed deliberately. Now they can take measures to eradicate such mistakes which is true. But right now no area is being bombed, there are checkpoints that's all which are needed. To protest against them is a joke, as PTM themselves were demanding them years back. But ofcourse, like I said their intentions are far sinister.

Developing Balochistan one of govt’s top priorities: PM Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday giving special impetus to the province of Balochistan said that ridding it of its feeling of being marginalized was the top priority of the government, ARY News reported.

The premier aired these thoughts during a meeting with a delegation from Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).

Prominent Baloch politicians including federal minister Zubaida Jalal along with Mir Khalid Magsi and Sardar Asrar Tareen were present in the meeting.

The delegation apprised PM Imran Khan of their concerns regarding a slash in the provincial budget in addition to bringing the premier up to speed with the ailments of the people of Balochistan and the development projects currently being worked on.

PM Imran Khan said that the government was paying special focus to development projects in the province and expressed hope for their timely completion.

He also added that the government was striving hard to sustain the country’s economy during tough times of coronavirus.

The prime minister concluded that the government will ensure that all the grievances brought forth by government allies will be addressed and resolved.

What is less known is that that people mix up Baloch and Balochi. The ethnic group is called Baloch, and the language is called Balochi.

Pardon my ignorance, but I have often heard of the "missing persons" in Balochistan, but I never bothered myself to read more about this, and that is my fault.

So my questions are; how many persons are missing? Who is behind their disappearances? Is it BLA, indians, iranians or even pakistanis themselves because I have heard some negative stuff about Pak army in B.stan?

Baloch leader abandons armed struggle

GWADAR: A Baloch nationalist leader, who remained affiliated with a resistance movement for over 20 years, has announced abandoning the armed struggle against the state and joining mainstream politics.

Master Salem Baloch along with some other people of his group vowed to work for the betterment of the country and people.

Official sources said that Saleem Baloch and the other members of his group announced this decision during a ceremony held in the Tump area of Kech district a few days ago. They said that Saleem Baloch surrendered to the authorities and joined mainstream politics. He announced that he and his colleagues would now struggle for rights of the people.

They said that Saleem Baloch was a member of the banned Baloch Liberation Front (BLF).

However, the sources said, a few years ago he had developed some differences with some leaders of the BLF on organisational issues and established his own group called Baloch National Liberation Front (BNLF). Later some of his supporters had surrendered to the authorities and abandoned the armed struggle against the state.

They said Saleem Baloch had later merged his organisation into the Baloch Republican Army (BRA).

Govt announces Rs600 billion development package for southern Balochistan

Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has announced that the government would spend Rs600 billion on development projects of nine districts of southern Balochistan during the next three years to improve the living standard of local people.

Out of the total, the federal government will provide Rs540 billion, while the rest would be spent by the Balochistan government.

Addressing a press briefing in Islamabad on Thursday along with Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz, Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal and Minister for Communication Murad Saeed, Umar said the government would also engage the private sector in some development projects in the area.

The package, he added, was prepared under the special direction of Prime Minister Imran Khan who had a firm belief on raising the weak segment of society. “The country’s historic package has been prepared with an integrated strategy to ensure that people belonging to all segment of society should get benefit from this package.”

The planning minister hoped that after completion of this programme, the most impoverished area of the country would see prosperity and it would become a practical example of PM Imran’s vision of Naya Pakistan.

In the past, he said, the approach of allocating money for development projects was different and that was not integrated, however, now “we have embarked upon a new system under which all the sectors and ministries will be engaged collectively.”

For instance, Umar said, in southern Balochistan, agriculture was the most important source of income for locals for which, the people need water, for which dams would have to be built.

He said that at present only 12 per cent people of the area are enjoying the facility of government electricity. “Under this package, we will provide electricity to over 57 per cent population of the area and for this off-grid electricity option will also be implemented to provide electricity to the scattered population of the area.”

Similarly, the government would build 16 new dams which will irrigate about 150,000 acres of land, he added.

Besides, the planning minister said, around 640,000 children would be given distance education and they would be connected to the teachers in big cities. “Under Waseela Taleem programme, as many as 83,000 children would be given free education and the government would also pay a stipend of Rs1,500 to boy and Rs2,000 to girl’s parents on monthly basis.

Umar maintained that in the health sector, 200 health centres would be up-graded. Similarly, he said, 35,000 young people of the area would be given the training to earn as a freelancer.

He informed that the area was suitable for olive and date cultivation so the government would establish an olive processing unit and three date processing units to make the local farmers able to add value to their produce.

Under Sehat Nashonuma programme, the minister said pregnant women and newborn babies would be provided with the required food so that the problem of stunting could be prevented. “Similarly, under this programme, billions of rupees would also be spent on road projects to connect the area with rest of the country.”

Replying to a question, Umar said: “We have not only identified the development projects but we are going to establish an integrated governance structure which will ensure timely implantation of the projects.”

While answering another query, he said first the government had announced a package for the erstwhile Federlly Administrered Tribal Areas (Fata), then for Karachi and now it had announced the package for South Balochistan.

“After this we will look at northern Balochistan, interior Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) so that PM Imran Khan’s vision of providing equal opportunities to all segment of societies and areas in the country can be fulfilled,” he said.
