So, a LOT of players were picked, who most have never heard of and I thought I might as well start a thread with those names.

Intl. players:
Harry Gurney
Tom Moores
Laurie Evans
Qais Ahmad
Sandeep Lamichhane
Aaron Summers
Liam Livingstone
Wayne Madsen
Waqar Salamkheil
Zahir Khan

Moving onto the Pak players:
Rizwan Hussain
Jalat Khan
Mohammad Imran
Abrar Ahmed
Mohammad Junaid
Samiullah jr (apparently a Pak player, but initially thought he was Afghani)

A lot of them seem like trash and there might be a few good picks, but we'll see.

Liam livingstone - a better version of joe denly

denly wasn't that good in PSL and only had a good game or two, moreover is he any good against spin?

Most English players struggle against spin and he'll be playing on turning tracks, so I don't see him doing well.

He can play spin but can’t say how good he is against good quality spinners.

England struggle against spin in the sub continent only when they play test matches, with the white ball they’re just as good as our players on turning tracks!

We have to pick those international players who are willing to play in Pakistan.

Qais Ahmed and Zahir Khan are the upcoming Afghan spinners who will make their mark in-time. Sandeep Lamichhane is a Nepalese leg-spinner who has already made his mark in CPL and IPL

That's a good point.

That sandeep guy played only 3 games in the ipl and 5 in the cpl, so he hardly played.

As for the other guys mentioned, this isn't a developing league for afghani spinners and they shouldn't have been selected.

That's a good point.

Making your mark is not based on number of matches but rather on how you play. Lamichhane only played 3 games in the IPL but did enough to get noticed and retained by the Dehli Daredevils for next season. He is a highly lauded spinner and a good pick in the Gold category.

I think you are not fully aware of how this league works. You have to pick players from each category. The Afghan spinners were in the Gold/Silver categories and if you look at the other players in those categories the Afghan spinners are actually among the better picks. These categories are filled mostly with English county unknowns or players from Bangladesh, Zimbabwe

How do you not know Sandeep? One of the more hyped and promising spin bowlers going around from an associate nation, smart move whoever picked him because he will play in Pakistan, spinners do well in T20 especially on sub continent, plus Nepal audience for ratings.

I know exactly how it works and one them were selected in gold.

There were some good names in that category like Samuels, Abbot, Finn and Bishoo, who is most likely to be much better than those spinners.

Lol how are Samuels, Bishoo, Finn good picks? They wouldn't get picked in any league in the world and they are not very good T20 players in general

Sandeep Lamichchanne is a no name player?

He has been playing around the world, next will play in BPL and BBL

They are far better options than some random afghan players!

I'd much rather invest in our youngsters, rather than young afghani's.

Tom Moores is the son of former England coach Peter Moores.
Liam Livingstone and Harry Gurney have already played for England and Wayne Madsen is a South African kolpak playing in county for the last 5-6 years.

Rawlins Sussex Allrounder and Pollack the Warwickshire Opener would have been good signings.

He is a no name to most, is just being carried around in all these leagues as the token Nepalese player.

I dont think anyone cares about picking associate players. They want to win and Sandeep has done well. M Clarke rated him highly

They are not random Afghan players. They are highly-lauded and highly sought out T20 players. Unlike Samuels and Bishoo who even struggle to stay in the West Indies team, Qais Ahmed has actually played in the CPL and was one of the leading wicket-takers at the U-19 WC. While Zahir Khan has done well for Lancashire in the Vitality Blast and was even picked by Rajastan Royals for the IPL.

Instead of having such a myopic view you should be happy that there are some foreign players in the Silver/Gold category who will actually improve the quality of cricket rather than those who merely take up spaces like Samuels, Finn, Sabbir Rehman, Chris Green...

Zahir Khan, Qais Ahmed and Waqar Salamkheil will play for Afghanistan one day. It's just that Rashid Khan, Mujeeb and Nabi are ahead of them right now.

Rashid was not a big name by any means when he was picked in IPL. Same is the case with Mujeeb. He had hardly played for Afghanistan when Kings 11 picked him in IPL.

Sandeep Lamichanne is one of the most promising spinners for T20 cricket. He is unlucky Nepal hardly plays international cricket, so he is not that exposed atm.

Yes I know. And Zahir Khan is already playing for Afghanistan. Only reason he hasn't played that many games is because Rashid/Mujeeb and injuries have kept him out.

Posters here need stop scoffing at the names of players like: Lamichanne, Qais, Zahir. They are quality T20 players which is all that should matter, not whether or not they are from associate countries

I don't mind if they are associate or not, but they should be of good quality.

Nabi was selected in the 1st PSL and I had no problem with it because he was pretty decent.

If these guys are decent, then fair enough, otherwise these picks will have useless and a complete waste.

Jaahid Ali was a surprise pick. Nothing about him strikes me as a T20 player, despite the fact he is my 'friend' (if you know you know)
