Sometimes a player cannot be judged by talent alone. Yes, he was very good versus Australia but can he be the difference when it matters for his country throughout the next three matches?.

He's only won a solitary Copa America, that too behind closed doors in one of the most surreal Pandemic sporting events of them all.

Lionel Messi believes Sunday's final will be his last appearance for Argentina in a World Cup.

The Argentina forward scored his fifth goal of Qatar 2022 in Tuesday's 3-0 semi-final over Croatia and admitted afterwards he does not expect to appear in a sixth World Cup in four years time.

He said: "I am obviously very happy for finishing my journey in World Cups in a final, to play the last game in a final. That is really very gratifying.

"Everything that I lived in this World Cup has been emotional, seeing how much it has been enjoyed in Argentina.

"There are a lot of years from this year to the next one. I don't think I will be able to do that. To finish this way is brilliant."

Messi, 35, has won almost every accolade in the game. He has won the Ballon d'Or - awarded to the world's best player - a record seven times and also won the Fifa Best Men's Player award once.

Other honours include four Champions League triumphs, 11 top-flight titles and Copa America glory in 2021. The World Cup is the only glaring omission, having lost the final to Germany in 2014.

Now Messi, who will make a record 26th appearance in a men's World Cup in Sunday's final against either France or Morocco, has one more chance to lift the biggest trophy of all.

"The target is the collective objective," he said. "We are going to do our best as we have done up until now so that this time it really happens, we really win it.

"I have been enjoying it the last few years being with the national side. I am really enjoying everything that is happening to us. To get the Copa America, to reach the world cup with 36 games unbeaten, and to finish all that trajectory in a final is just incredible.

"I hope the people in Argentina enjoy themselves and what we are doing. They shouldn't doubt we are giving absolutely everything."

The Paris St-Germain forward is one of only six men to have played in five World Cups alongside Antonio Carbajal, Lothar Matthaus, Rafa Marquez, Andres Guardado and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Currently joint top scorer with Kylian Mbappe in Qatar, Messi also became the first player to score in four different World Cup tournaments for Argentina in a tournament that has seen him become his country's leading marksmen in the World Cup on 11 goals.

The Paris St-Germain forward, who has also provided three assists this tournament, made his debut in 2005 aged 18, and has since made 172 appearances and scored 97 goals.

Never doubt the GOAT.

Lionel Messi's World Cup story is almost over but, however it ends, I know things are going to be a lot less enjoyable without him.

Whatever happens in Sunday's final, which will be his last match on this global stage, Messi's performances in Qatar have cemented his place in the hearts of football fans around the world.

There was a beautiful moment after Argentina's win over Croatia in the semi-finals, where a reporter told Messi that he has made his mark on everyone's life, and that is more important than the result against France and winning his first World Cup.

She was absolutely right. People always go on at me about how much I talk about Messi but I make no apologies for that, and I never will, because watching him has given me so much joy - nearly two decades of absolute delight in fact.

He is 35 now, and we haven't got much longer of him left, so let's savour every second.

Messi has played in six games at this World Cup and he has been man of the match in four of them.

But it's not just his five goals or his three assists that have made him stand out at this tournament, it's the little things he does - like when he is trapped by three or four players and you think, well, he won't get out there… but he does, and he does it repeatedly.

I've said many times that I consider him the greatest player to have ever played the game, and I've never put that solely down to his scoring statistics, as staggering as they are - it's because of his vision, his awareness, and his decision-making.

It really does seem like he plays as if he is viewing the game from above at the same time, but even that doesn't really do full justice to his genius.

Every time he has played at this World Cup, the crowd cannot take their eyes off him - as soon as he gets the ball, the whole stadium collectively holds its breath. They stand up and they wait for his magic, and he has always delivered.

There have been so many jaw-dropping moments, like his brilliant dribble and precision pass to set up a goal against the Dutch, or the perfect first touch and strike to score against Mexico, which turned Argentina's fortunes in this tournament around.

Then there was his incredible assist for Julian Alvarez in the semi-final, when he turned Josko Gvardiol inside out and left him utterly bewildered in his wake.

You are left thinking 'wow' and wondering how Messi can do that to one of the strongest and quickest defenders in the world but even then he is still thinking about what comes next and picks out Alvarez, and instead you are working out how on earth he saw him.

The 'wow' factor is what counts

Messi has shown for many years now that he is a truly extraordinary player, but I think even from just watching him at this tournament, you would realise he is special, and better than anyone else in the modern game.

When we make comparisons like that, we sometimes get a little bit caught up just with goalscoring, which is great for me because it makes me appear a better player than I was.

If that was the criteria then I'd be a little bit better than Diego Maradona, which is obviously absurd because he practically played a different sport.

It is the same with the Messi versus Cristiano Ronaldo debate now. Their numbers are fairly similar, goals-wise, but I would argue Messi has the greater 'wow' factor.

Ronaldo has it too, when he scores a great goal, and Kylian Mbappe is the same with his explosive bursts of pace but neither of them can do the things Messi can.

Messi will beat four or five men in a tiny space and just pass it just five yards, or see a pass no-one else does and deliver that with the perfect weight.

He has done all of that at this tournament, just as he's done it during his whole career.

Some people have been surprised by his form here, because they thought he'd been struggling at Paris St-Germain, but that's not the case.

I watch all PSG's games, because I love watching him play, and this season he has been unbelievably brilliant - so he came into this World Cup in absolutely fantastic shape.

He no longer has that burst of acceleration he had in his prime but he still has his natural ability, the kind of raw talent that is hard to comprehend for us normal human beings, and he has also retained the incredible drive and determination that has kept him at the top for so long.

Why Argentina in 2022 are a lot like 1986

One of the ways Messi is unique as a player is that you see him just drift away from the action and stand in areas where he does not get the ball for a while.

You wonder what is he doing - is he evaluating everything that is going on and working out everyone's positions, or is he just having a rest?

He has always done it, but it happens far more now than during his days under Pep Guardiola at Barcelona, when he was more active in pressing the opposition.

It's clear Argentina have found a way to play that allows him to choose his moments in a tournament that is so concertinaed, and it reminds me so much of the way their team worked when they won the 1986 World Cup.

That side was so tough and uncompromising with people such as Oscar Ruggeri and Jose Luis Brown at the back, and Julio Olarticoechea and Jorge Burruchaga in midfield, but also had a great striker and exceptionally intelligent man, Jorge Valdano.

Similarly, this 2022 Argentina side are workmanlike right through the team, without many other genuinely world-class players, but they do have a brilliant centre-forward, thanks to Alvarez's emergence.

And they can rely on some genius from Messi, of course, just like Argentina did with Maradona before him - and there are obviously many similarities between those two.

Longevity is a factor when you choose your GOAT

It is always fun to talk about who is the greatest player of all time - or GOAT - because everyone has a different opinion, but I feel you can only really judge it in your own lifetime and from what you've seen.

I can't count Pele, only because I didn't really see him play, apart from when I was nine and he was playing in the 1970 World Cup, so Maradona is the only other candidate for me.

It's remarkable that the two greatest players of all time - well, of my time - are both from the same country, both left footed, both small - and they both dribble and do all these kind of different incredible things.

It is always difficult to compare players from different generations because the game changes so much - for example Maradona was kicked constantly, and he played on some awful pitches too.

While I was with Barcelona, I played with him for a Rest of the World team at Wembley in 1987 as part of the Football League's centenary celebrations. Everyone's jaw dropped when he walked into our dressing room - we were all in awe of him.

When we went out for our warm-up, Maradona got a ball and juggled it all the way to the halfway line before booting it about 50 yards up in the air - and when it came straight down he booted it back up again.

He did it about 12 times, and hardly had to move. I remember telling the other Barca players about it when I went back to Spain and we all tried it. The best anyone did was three, with a massive sprint at the end.

Like Messi he was an staggering talent and, in many ways, they are both are so equal but you have to remember Maradona was at his very best for maybe only seven years because of his issues off the field.

Longevity has to count in your overall summary of who is the best - so, given the success he has had at club and more recently international level, it's hard to put anyone above Messi right now.

One of the reasons I think he is playing so well in Qatar is because he has won a trophy with Argentina already, the 2021 Copa America, that seems to have taken the weight off his back with the expectations back home.

He still wants to win a World Cup too of course - and I can't think of a better way for this tournament to finish.

From Buenos Aires to Doha and around the rest of the world and in every size imaginable, the sky blue and white strip with the superstar’s name emblazoned on the back is out of stock.

adidas, who have long been partnered with Argentina’s national team, have confirmed it is impossible to increase production overnight to replenish a product that it knew would do very well.

And they also confessed they didn’t expect the shirts to sell as much as much as they have in stores and online sales.

But regardless of the result against the reigning world champions, the Argentina skipper’s strip will still be highly sought after given it’ll be his last World Cup fixture for La Seleccion.

We don’t even want to think how much one of those bad boys would sell for on eBay right now.

2 goals in the Final, has he just won the World Cup for Argentina?

Messi was under immense pressure, maybe more pressure than any player has been under but he stepped up in big moments and captained his country to a world cup title.

Sheikh Messi of Argentina :)

Fairytale ending for the legend! Hopefully can inspire countless kids who saw this wc.

I grew up watching Lionel Messi. This man plays for Argentina since 2005. It has been a pleasure watching him.

Thanks for the memories.

The next COPA America is in 2024. He can possibly play until then.

He should end on a high. This is the time to do it. He's achieved everything and cemented his status as the bonafide GOAT in club and international football.

I could perhaps understand if Argentina were going to host 2024 Copa America but I don't think they will.

Must be a tough day for you as a die hard Ronaldo fan.

Cry more and go and watch more 240p videos of Maradonna, while the rest of the world is in 2022.

Fact does do not care about feelings. Messi did bail on his country, Maradonna didn't.

Now next time never pretend you watched Maradonna especially when you got caught lying that you did, more so stop lying you witnessed Man U lift 8 premier league titles.

Now go change your debate, glorly millenial supporter. Lie more!

He wants to experience playing with Argentina as world champions & more importantly, enjoy the freedom after carrying the heaviest of burden on his shoulders for 15 years.

He was earmarked as Maradona’s heir since 2006-2007 & he has carried the dreams & expectations of millions of Argentinians.

He hasn’t been allowed to enjoy playing for his country without any pressure so he deserves this moment for himself.

He will always go on a high because his international career will always be defined by Qatar 2022.

When did I say I watched Maradonna? Stop making things up.

And I did watch Man United win 8 premier league titles, as I have been watching football since the 1999-00 season.

You keep going on about Messi bailing on his country. He made the decision to retire after losing the Copa American final in 2016, which was clearly an emotional decision. He ended up reversing the decision and was back playing for Argentina two months later.

At least Messi isn't a coke addict and got banned in the middle of a world cup like Maradonna did. Now go cry more.

That was a great season for Man U, its first time i watched them as well(wasn’t into club football before that), I stopped watching EPL after 2004 ish as well and shifted to SERIE A and La Liga but those were good seasons with Arsenal and ManU

You millenials now underrating Maradonna based on Youtube videos just sums up your knowledge and understanding of football. Post 2010 doesn't count.

You are not even qualified for a Maradonna vs Messi debate.

Plus it doesn't matter how much you defend a convicted criminal tax evader, he bailed on Argentina after a loss, Maradonna never did. These are the cold hard facts.

Now carry on, with your Youtube highlights, I am no longer interested in your views on Football after your lies were exposed.

The late 90s and early 00s period was possibly the golden era of premier league with Man United and Arsenal competing for the title every season. The rivalry between the two teams was heated and there was no love lost between the two sides. Nowadays, you got managers like Pep and Klopp hugging each other and everyone is just too friendly with each other. Ferguson and Wenger weren't hugging each other. I miss those days.

No, it is you as a Maradonna fan who can't accept that Messi has led his country to a world cup at 35, the age where Maradonna got banned for doing coke at the 1994 world cup. Messi may have bailed on his country (even though he didn't miss a single match), but what Maradonna did in 1994 was way worse.

Now, go and cry more and stop pretending that you are an Argentine. Only they are fully qualified to answer the question "Maradonna or Messi".

He's not a genuine Maradonna fan. He's a die hard Ronaldo fan changing goalposts because he can't deal with this humiliation.

Stopped reading here, as I said, you are not fit to debate Maradonna vs Messi, even though you are now desperate to change the debate.

Not interested in your footballing lies anymore.

And neither are you. You aren't even a Maradonna fan. You are a Ronaldo fan and a Messi hater. Cry more because your GOAT is currently unemployed, while Messi captains his country to a world cup title.

Please don't forget to watch part 3 of Ronaldo's interview with Piers Morgan.

So now you have insinuated you are not even a Man U fan. This keeps getting better.

Anyway what ever helps you sleep at night. Kindly do not reply to me on anything related to football, I cannot stand millenial liars.

Messi confirms that he will continue to play international football for the foreseeable future and no retirement. I did not expect that. Hopefully he'll come to his senses and leave the stage now on a high.

One can be a fan of many players, you millenials cannot seem to comprehend this fact.

For me, seeing your lies exposed both on Maradonna and Man U are a sight to see.

Have a good night.

Yes, one can be a fan of many players, but clearly you aren't a Messi fan and is upset that he won the world cup, because you were hoping as a Ronaldo fan that it doesn't happen.

Have a good night too.

I actually said, as fans of football, we should appreciate both Messi and Ronaldo as we will never see such players in our generation again. My post can be cited in the Messi vs Ronaldo thread.

Yup I am a Ronaldo fan too, so what? You clearly are not despite claiming you are a Man U fan (clearly you are not). The only reason you hate CR7 despite his services to Man U is his interview which most Man U fans agree with anyway (but you're not a Man U fan, but a glorly supporter) and because you cannot handle the SM debate between Messi and CR7 - insecurity. This is what happens when you millenials lie.

Sweet dreams.

More than Argentina’s win, it’s the pain inflicted on Ronaldo fans and Messi haters that is more enjoyable. :))

I think we will have a 39 year old Messi in the next WC.

If mere mortals like Modric and Ronaldo can keep going at 37, I think Messi has still got some big moments in him for the next few years.

You never know but I doubt it. It's the fresh dopamine swirling in his brain that made him say this. It'll come down to normal in a week.

I don't think he needs to play at the next world cup. He can play in the next Copa America which is in 2024, when he will have just turned 37. But playing at a world cup at 39 in 2026 isn't the smartest thing to do. The last thing I want to see is Messi dropped from the starting line up. He needs to learn from the Ronaldo fiasco.

Yes, that is the thing that makes it the sweetest. A certain Ronaldo fan in this thread has had a meltdown. I love their tears. :)))

For starters, Messi is smarter than Ronaldo. No way, he is going to play next WC.

He should go out on a high. Football is a very tough demanding game and most footballers are past it at 30 onwards. He has already lost a step and no longer has the speed of his youth but he made up for it with dribling, play making, experience and a desire to be most helpful to his team mates. Very few people reach the ultimate pinnacle on their way out of the sport. Don't do a ronaldo where you are forced out by your managers and benched.

Lionel Messi finally got his hands on the World Cup trophy after Argentina defeated France 4-2 on penalties in the final at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday. For long, a World Cup trophy had eluded Messi, most notably the 2014 heartbreak in the final against Germany. Taking to Instagram, Messi, who scored two goals in the final, penned an emotional note to the fans after Argentina won the World Cup. Messi said that it was his dream to win the trophy, and thanked the fans for their support throughout the journey.

"World Champions! I dreamed it so many times, I wanted it so much that I still haven't fallen, I can't believe it. Thank you very much to my family, to all who support me and also to all who believed in us. We demonstrate once again that Argentines when we fight together and united we are capable of achieving what we set out to do. The merit belongs to this group, which is above individualities, it is the strength of all fighting for the same dream that was also the dream of all Argentines... We did it! Go Argentina! we are seeing each other very soon," Messi captioned a photo album on Instagram.

The 35-year-old scored two goals in the stunning and chaotic final that ended 3-3 after 120 absorbing minutes, before the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner netted his spot-kick in the shoot-out that Argentina won 4-2

After the final, Messi vowed to continue playing for his country despite finally realising his lifetime ambition of winning the World Cup.

"I want to keep experiencing a few more matches as world champion," Messi told Argentine television after the match.

He, however, Messi admitted his career was almost finished after the Argentina captain landed the one major international trophy missing from his collection.

"Obviously I would like to end my career with this, I cannot ask for more. My career is nearly over because these are my last years," he added.

I think he extends with PSG for one more season, then Inter Miami for a season or two before a farewell season with Newells.

The Barca bridge has been burnt with how Laporta handled Messi's exit, I can't see him returning and tbh it would be bad for Messi to go back while we're rebuilding.

As for internationals, a bit more difficult to predict. He could try defend the Copa with the team, or he could play a few more games at home in front of the fans as world champion and get to 100 goals, then retire.

Wonder how Mbappe feels about that

Ultimately Messi has completed football so he is in that luxurious position of being able to do what he wants without issue

Going back to Barca for a proper farewell could happen
Going to MLS to basically enjoy the lifestyle and coast through matches is a possibility
Staying with PSG another year especially if Mbappe leaves could happen too
A stint at Newells Old Boys at some point would be awesome to see

On the subject of Messi, I remember seeing him make his debut and I've seen the vast majority of his career. Due to TV coverage I've seen more of Messi than I have of my own team.

I also had the privilege of going to Barcelona to watch a game in 2019, he scored twice in a 2-0 win and barely got our of 2nd gear as he just returned from a knock.

I've long said he's the best ever (not sure if posts on PP go that far back), the eye test supports that, the stats support that and the achievements support that.

The one question mark was around International achievements, I felt his record was undervalued especially when people compared it to Ronaldo. Ronaldo had the luxury of not travelling far to play for his country and then the added luxury of Liechtenstein, Luxembourg etc counting as "competitive" games..

The falling short in the finals was building and an image of being an Int

(Hit sent too early so post continues)

International failure was growing stronger, though I always maintained an individual can't always be held responsible in a team sport.

In addition his stock with the Argentinian public was low, he wasn't liked, they thought he was too European and felt he didn't care enough or didn't have the character to deliver. It was understandable why he walked away, it was deemed to be a sign of weakness but I always felt that was strange. Hanging around when you aren't wanted or helping isn't a good thing (Ronaldo could take note here).

However he reversed that decision as fortunately there were some sensible people that knew success without him wasn't possible and he was happy to give it a final go.

What Argentina then built was a team that works to get the best out of him and it was Scaloni that really delivered on this front.

Winning Copa America lifted that curse, Argentina finally won a trophy after a long tike and Messi finally delivered a trophy. He was loved by the Argentinian public and that comeback was complete.

What winning the World Cup did was rubber stamp his legacy of completing football, there is no greater achievement in sport. To win the World Cup whilst being player of the tournament and at 35 years old is incredible and the achievement can't be downplayed.

We probably don't have too many years of watching Messi playing football left so we need to enjoy every moment and with the pressure of the World Cup lifted I can see him playing with even more freedom.

What a player, what a career and it will take a special player to surpass him.

Brilliant post.

I agree with pretty much everything you wrote here. I think it was obvious by 2010-2011 that Messi is the GOAT. 23-24 year old Messi was already at a level that no other player in history got close to.

I just don’t understand how anyone could watch football & try to argue that Ronaldo was better.

People who argue in favor of Maradona, well, Maradona might be at same level during his peak years, but Maradona in his 30s was not even half the player Messi has been after his 30th birthday.

Maradona was finished by 30-31, Messi at 35 is still dominating. His goals, his creativity, his longevity & all the trophies that he was won makes him the undisputed GOAT.

I am glad he is extending his contract at Paris because he is still too good to play in MLS. I don’t think Mbappe has any issues with him.

He loves playing with him & they have huge chemistry on the pitch. In addition, Messi is not egoistical like Ronaldo & he recognizes that it is Mbappe’s time to shine. He hasn’t tried to hog the spotlight from him & make the team about himself.

Ronaldo & Mbappe in the same team would have been a disaster, but Messi & Mbappe together has worked really well & this is why Paris are extending his contract.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has reached an "agreement in principle" to renew his contract at Paris St-Germain, says BBC Sport's Guillem Balague.

Messi, 35, who led Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar, is out of contract at the French club in June 2023.

Earlier this week Barcelona president Joan Laporta said he "would love" Messi to return to the Spanish club where he spent 21 years.

But Balague says Barca have not approached Messi about a return.

He will sign a one-year deal with the option of another year and the agreement has come after four months of talks between PSG director of football Luis Campos and Messi's father Jorge.

That was followed by a key meeting in Doha with PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

"It is practically all agreed with PSG," says European football expert Balague. "Barcelona have not approached him or his dad to offer anything.

"So it is not that Messi does not want to return to Barcelona. He has not been asked the question.

"Messi is happy with it all and when back from his holidays the agreement will speed up.

"His life in Paris is balanced, happy, everybody is enjoying it and he has a real possibility of winning the Champions League again. Plus, it will help him be a candidate again for the Ballon d'Or."

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner was named player of the tournament at the World Cup as Argentina won the title for the third time with a penalty shoot-out victory over France.

After leaving Barcelona, Messi signed a two-year contract as a free agent, with the option of a third year, in 2021.

He has made 53 appearances for the Ligue 1 side so far, scoring 23 goals in all competitions.

The Argentine has now won one World Cup, four Champions League titles, one Copa America, 10 La Liga trophies with Barcelona and a Ligue 1 crown in France with PSG.

Considered one of the greatest players of all time, he scored a record 672 goals in 778 games for Barcelona, the club he joined as a 13-year-old.

He ended his association with the Catalan club in 2021, when they could no longer afford to honour the new contract they agreed with him because of La Liga's salary limit.

I don't think going back to Barca is the right move and he's shown he can still perform at the top level so extending by another year makes sense

He's only 12 goals behind Ronaldo's CL record so another year and half gives him a slight chance to beat it (Assuming Ronaldo does go to Saudi and not join a CL club)

I agree. Barca are going through a transition and they are a million miles away from being a great team again. Messi doesn't need to go back there. Maybe for sentiment reasons, it makes sense. But for practical reasons, he should stay at PSG.

Lionel Messi sends his signed World Cup jersey to Jay Shah, BCCI general secretary poses with UNEXPECTED prized possession

In what has turned out to be quite an unexpected gift, BCCI general secretary Jay Shah received a signed jersey of Lionel Messi, the star footballer from Argentina who led his side to their third FIFA World Cup title a few days ago. Former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha shared a picture on Instagram in which he can be seen posing with Shah with the same jersey from Lionel Messi. The picture has gone viral as fans are in disbelief to see Shah getting such a special gift from one of the top footballers in the world.

Messi had fulfilled his World Cup dream when Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties after the final of the FIFA World Cup finished 3-3. This is Messi's first football World Cup title and many believe that with all major titles in his bag, he has now beaten his long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo to emerge as the real GOAT (Greatest of All Time). The Argentine team reached homeland after a wonderful campaign and the World Cup trophy. They stepped inside a open-roof bus and roamed across the capital city of Buenos Aires. However, their trip had to be cut short with fans jumping into the team bus from the overbridges and hurting themselves as well as the players.

Argentina has returned from FIFA World Cup with a staggering prize money of Rs 347 crore.

Jay Shah, BCCI gen sec, must be a happy man. He got a prized possession in form of the Messi jersey. Additionally, the IPL 2023 Mini Auction went well with all ten teams completing their 25-man squads. The IPL 2023 is expected to start on April 1, as per a report in which is it is mentioned that BCCI has sent a mail to all franchises mentioning the date of start. .

He has cemented his GOAT status further. He is the 3rd best footballer of all time (behind Pele and Maradona). He is definitely a level above Ronaldo.

Dubai: Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal has reportedly reached a deal with Lionel Messi, one of the best football players of his generation and is frequently considered as the world’s best, to join its team in the near future, many social media accounts reported quoting an Italian newspaper.

Al Hilal club has even put Messi’s shirts on sale in their club shop soon after Cristiano Ronaldo joined their rivals, Al Nassr.

According to the Italian newspaper “CalcioMercato”, Al Hilal club has reached a deal with Messi to join its team in the near future in exchange of a huge contract that will be the highest in history.

The same paper has previously said that Al Hilal will do anything to convince Lionel Messi to join its ranks, the biggest rival of Al Nassr club in Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Saad bin Tafela Al Ajmi, Former Minister of Information in Kuwait, said that Al Hilal is seriously considering contracting with Messi to join its team after Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al Nassr club.

“By contracting with Messi, the Saudi league will be the focus of attention of football fans in the world,” the ex-minister said.

Over the past period, growing rumors have spread like wild fire on social media about Messi’s joining of Al Hilal club. No official statement has been made by either Messi or Al Hilal club about the possible transfer.

Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier said that he does not know if Lionel Messi will continue at the club next season. Messi, 35, becomes a free agent next summer and has not signed a new contract with PSG.

The French giants have reportedly offered the Argentina superstar a contract renewal until June 2024 while he has also been linked with a move to MLS with Inter Miami.

Asked what will determine if Messi will stay at PSG next season, Galtier said: “There are many parameters. The first thing is his desire. Does he want to continue at PSG? Is he happy here? The first thing to know is if he wants to continue.”

Lionel Messi was reportedly called a "sewer rat" and "a hormonal dwarf" in WhatsApp messages by a former member of the ex-FC Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu-led board. Bartomeu was at the helm of the Spanish football club from 2014 to 2020. The derogatory comments, according to several reports by European media outlets, were made by Roman Gomez Ponti, FC Barcelona's head of legal services during Bartomeu's time at the club. The comments were reportedly made in a WhatsApp group which had Bartomeu, former general director Oscar Grau and other ex-board members including financial director Pancho Schroder and directory of Strategy and Innovation Javier Sobrino. All these board members resigned from the club after Bartomeu quit.

Forbes, in its report, quoted the Spanish daily El Periodico, and said that the group 'fumed' about the source of the leak of Messi's contract which had its details published by El Mundo.

Ponti's comments regarding Messi were directed to Bartomeu and had several unsubstantiated allegations. The comments were reportedly made as the board members discussed the contract extensions of several players including Messi.

The Mirror reported that the messages, regarding Messi, read: "Barto, really, you can't be such a good person with this sewer rat. The club has given him everything and he has dedicated himself to marking a dictatorship of signings, transfers, renewals, sponsorships just for him, etc."

"Above all the accumulation of blackmail and rudeness that the club and those of us who work [for it] have suffered from this hormonal dwarf who owes Barca his life... ah! But when things go wrong [Covid-19] you receive the mythical WhatsApp [message]: 'President, lower the salaries of others, but don't touch Luis [Suarez] and me.'"

Later, Bartomeu says "many times we have listened to Leo, not always, but many times, and this contract without a pandemic was totally assumable."

If there was any doubt on Messi's character, now it is removed.

Unbelievable! Messi demanding that other players lower their salaries, except for himself and and Suarez!

No wonder Barca kicked him out, good riddance, pure toxic generator, and rumours are he is doing the same at PSG.

Paris St-Germain forward Lionel Messi has not been approached by Al Hilal and would not consider a move to Saudi Arabia, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague says.

Recent reports suggest the Argentina international, 35, has been offered £245m to move to the Middle East.

Messi's contract expires in the summer but, according to Balague, he is close to finalising a deal to remain at PSG.

"There hasn't been an offer [from Al Hilal]," says Balague.

"PSG and Messi are organising a meeting in the next few weeks to finalise the deal that will keep him in Paris."

Argentina Farmer Plants Lionel Messi "Tattoo" On Corn Field

fter Argentina's 2022 World Cup win, fans flocked to get tattoos of the South American football team's star, Lionel Messi.

Thanks to advanced agricultural technology, one Argentine corn farm has planted its own Messi "tattoo" and shared the software so that it can be replicated.

In rural Ballesteros, about 500 kilometers northwest of Buenos Aires, farmer Charly Faricelli tells AFP that he planned to design Messi's face into his corn field regardless of Argentina's result in Qatar last month.

"The idea was a tribute from the agricultural world to Messi, whether he won the World Cup or not -- which thank God he did!" he said.

The size of almost four football fields, the Messi face can only be seen from above, and becomes more visible as the corn grows.

"It's an agricultural 'tattoo'," said Faricelli.

Unlike other crop designs, where plants are chopped down to create an image, this "tattoo" is the result of different concentrations of planted seed.

Faricelli explains that "with advances in technology, the tractor knows exactly, as it goes along, how many seeds to sow in which place."

He has invited other farmers on social media to imitate his homage and has shared the software for them to upload into their equipment.

There are 25 faces of Messi in corn fields across five different provinces, Faricelli says.

"We identify with the national team, because it suffered before winning, and the agricultural world is also suffering," he says, alluding to a major drought impacting Argentina's fertile Pampas plains in the center of the country.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter says he and his family have received anonymous death threats following the club's poor run of form.

Gunmen left a threatening message on Thursday for Lionel Messi and opened fire at a supermarket owned by his in-laws in his hometown of Rosario, police said.

Nobody was injured in the early morning attack, and it was unclear why assailants would target the Argentina star or the supermarket, which is owned by the family of his wife, Antonella Roccuzzo.

Police said two men on a motorcycle fired at least a dozen shots into the supermarket in the early hours, and left a message on a piece of cardboard that read, “Messi, we’re waiting for you. [Rosario mayor Pablo] Javkin is also a drug trafficker, so he won’t take care of you.”

Messi, who captained Argentina to victory at last year’s World Cup, has not commented on the incident. Messi plays for Paris Saint-Germain and spends much of his time overseas, though he often visits Rosario where he has a home in the suburb of Funes.
