"Lost 2 ODIs against N Zealand in 2009 as some players deliberately did not play well" : Rana Naved

Rana Naved-ul-Hasan speaking on TV regarding events of 2009

"This was not a rebellion against Younis Khan - he was a good cricketer and I did play alongside him so there were no issues except that when he became captain, he became a different person"

"Some seniors, and I wont name names as they may have had aspirations of being captains themselves, got us involved in this whole affair as well to further their aims - we were about 7-8 people involved in this"

"We were all called into a room and an oath of allegiance taken - the people in that room were some big names of Pakistan cricket - if I mention those names, then they will get angry with me"

"They said we dont want him to be removed but we would like the PCB Chairman to reason with Younis Khan as he doesnt take advice of seniors as captain and does what he feel likes doing"

"I went along with this thinking that if this is the only matter and the PCB Chairman tells him that, then I dont have an issue with this"

"We lost 2 ODI games to New Zealand in UAE (2009) because some of the people involved deliberately did not play well, and I sat out that tour"

"I was sat out because I had told Younis Khan that this was the conspiracy against you and that I am also a part of that plot"

Now what is this going on everyone is coming out with an allegation,Corona is showing some good benefits as well:yk2.

To me as a Pakistan fan - its shameful that these cricketers can sit calmly on TV and talk about games being deliberately lost.

No honour, no shame.

In a different society, such people should commit harakiri but we are made of sterner stuff - it seems.

This is what happens when you are not well looked after financially by the board.

PCB needs a serious revamp of its financial structure now that it has PSL.

No bro - there is a basic thing called sharam. That no PCB payscale will fix.

Came here to write this.

Why bring up all these “old incidents”?

Throughout my experience in life with dealing with such people (don’t want to sound racist or generalise), Sharam is usually out of the question. They have a very poor upbringing in which these dirty tricks/politics is the culture in everything and not just sport.

It's seems that bar those few years under IK, we have never had any sort of team, just individuals who hate and distrust each other and quite happy to sell out their country without even a 2nd thought. It's no wonder that modestly talented Australians and New Zealanders have achieved 100s more.

You think it's still not happening? When it happened with Saleem Malik in the 90s,we believed him and blamed Warne, when it happened again with Amir, Butt etc many blamed the NOTW and didn't believe the fixing. We never learn. UA is the latest in the betrayal that goes back 30 years.

Here we go I guess. From the looks of it, Rana Naved won't be the last person saying this. Pandora's Box is truly been opened.

This was probably be the darkest time in PK cricket. Admitted Mohd. Amir and Asif plus we had a captain like Younis Khan.

What an ugly time that was. Thank god, we have Wasim Khan to fix these issues.

Rana Naveed is not a saint. He should’ve said something.

That time we had bunch of pendus running the show for Pakistan.

Oathgate. Another strange and dark episode in Pakistan cricket.

Well I hope it's not true, but aspects of these matches were rather unusual.

This is blatant match fixing, the seniors involved should be punished

Yep, that 2009/10 period was an incredibly bleak period for Pakistan cricket.

Don :malik

This person is in the PAK cricket team since 1990s. Shoaib Malik.

Wasn't he one of the main characters?

The irony looking at that scorecard the only one who didn’t ‘fix’ the match was Mohammed Amir

The 7 run loss seemed to be Saeed Ajmal and Mohammad Amir versus New Zealand.

PCB needs to separate themselves from explayers, including these "all time great" players, and current players who have been involved in such activities. But instead, the pcb and some people go the extra mile to get these fixers back in Pakistan cricket. Recent examples are Amir and Sharjeel. Consequently, we keep producing these losers that continue to shame and harm Pakistan cricket.

PCB must work with IK to increase the punishment for fixing to life ban.

Players that deliberately under performed should be throughly ashamed of themselves

There shouldve been a thorough investigation and anyone found guilty shouldve been banned for life

This kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable

Yes I know.

However if such things have happened in the past, why wasn’t it reported then?

Why now?

In my opinion everyone who is reporting such kind of incidents during these days is just seeking attention.

Nobody trusts the systems in place. The problem is deeply rooted and we never learn. For example we had Naseem Shah in deep conversation with Salman Butt in the PSL, a conversation that should have sent shock waves in PK cricket but not really a murmur. We have Ejaz Ahmed as the coach of the U19s, and Butt has already been forgiven and Saleem Malik will soon be rehabilitated. Its a thoroughly rotten system that protects the corrupt.

By analysing the scorecards and what i know of the players, it appears the main culprits could possibly be Mohammad Yousuf, Umar Akmal and Kamran.

I don't necessarily think that Afridi's performances are suspicious lol.

From his performance, seems like Younis Khan was in on it too :uakmal

I agree.

PCB needs to rethink their strategy about match-fixing.

I really hope that they can implement such rules that the players would never think about fixing a match...

This is nothing compared with the Sri Lanka Tests that year....

I mean it made the match a cult classic

I still remember amir and ajmal (who didn't do much tbh)

So...
I don't know

Bilateral series defeat in the UAE after losing to them in the CT SF. Next year lost to them in the 2010 WT20 too.

That series looked quite suspicious.

Having said that, Kiwis have great fighting spirit and they can win anywhere.

Saeed Ajmal puts the record straight in his interview with us

PakPassion.net: What are your views on Rana Naved’s assertions that some players deliberately underperformed in two ODIs against New Zealand in UAE in 2009, just so that Younis Khan could be removed as captain?

Saeed Ajmal: I can say with conviction that no Pakistan player indulged in any activity that led to any match being lost just so that Younis Khan could be removed as captain. I played in those games and I know that no such thing happened as we all played to win the game.

I am not sure why Rana Naved feels that there was some conspiracy against Younis Khan. He was an aggressive captain who played with that mindset and in the previous tour of South Africa, we had requested the PCB to advise him to have a better attitude with his team-mates. But, to say that a match was deliberately lost to remove Younis Khan as captain simply did not happen. Younis Khan is a great man who has performed really well for Pakistan. I respect him and believe we as players would never dream of undermining his captaincy by any means.
