Lupe has been open about his Islamic faith. He showcased it in his underground remix of friend and collaborator Kanye West's "Jesus Walks", entitled "Muhammad Walks". He has noted the importance of religion in his life, stating:

“ Well, I was born Muslim, so Islam plays a part in my life and everything I do, to a certain extent. I'm not like the poster boy for Islam... I still got my flaws and stuff like that, so I don't really wear that on my sleeve... I don't go to clubs, I don't drink, I don't smoke, you know like my whole - the whole groupie situation is shut down.

has anyone heard the song 'muhammed walks' its really good, the lyrics make sense and a muslim can relate to.

Yup have heard of him and the track as well. It's a good track and he is a good producer as well.

By the ways Akon, EvE and Swizz Beatz are also Muslims as well.

Akon in his track Senegal states
"So what you know about how God comes first in our lives, everything that we do is for Allah"

Looks like he favours the Islamic law which allows you to have more than one wife. He currently has 3.

Eve mentions about her religion

"Islam is a beautiful religion. But right now, with my career and my life, I can’t live the Sunni Muslim way. I refuse to be a hypocrite and cover my head on Friday, go pray, and then the rest of the week I’m out cursing and drinking–and performing. So right now I’m just comfortable with God. "

Yeah, I've heard that track. Lyrically it sounds pretty much like a Nasheed.

it doesnt matter about akon even though i know he doesnt drink if that constitutes to any ones respect towards him however this was all about lupe fiasco, he's young and he knows about his religion and expresses it, this is very pleasing to see. i wish him all the success i just hope he never forgets his religion.

common and mos def are muslim too...had no clue about eve?

is it the same eve from ruff ryders ent?

Who's Lupe Fiasco? And who is Eve?

I know who Akon is, and I knew he was a Muslim. But I don't care. He can live whatever way he wants. God is the one that will deal with him.

zeeshan get yourself some lupe fiasco songs they are really good, he is a down to earth rapper who raps about stuff that is happening in the world rather than money, women, sex and drugs.
Eve is a non practising muslim but she is apparantly a muslim, i do like her songs and tothe earlier post yes she is the one from ruff ryders.

but zeeshan i can garantee you will like his songs, his album 'food and liquor'.

Surprised about Eve, not that much about Akon already knew about Lupe Fiasco.

Not really for us to judge them though is it.

Hes having a concert here next week and if tickets are still available, I'll probably go. Never thought I'd be going to a rap concert but strange things happen in life

How is that related to this thread :))

But yes, excellent song, a bit different to his old stuff.

? It was the only Lupe Fiasco thread I could find.

I didn't want to make a new one when there was one already dedicated to him.

still find it hard to believe that Busta Rhymes is Muslim.

I heard this ages ago. Cant believe the video has just come out

Anyways, love that line about Obama and the Gaza Strip :D

If you do go to a hip hop concert (or any concert for that matter), make sure you try to get tickets for the pit region. Experiencing a concert up front vs. seat #500 makes a huge difference IMO.

no idea what that is, sounds likes some sort of cult.

no idea what that is, sounds likes some sort of cult.

It's an offshoot of the Nation of Islam founded by Clarence 13X. They are also known as 'The Nation of Gods and Earths'.

They have the ugliest looking official website @ http://www.allahsnation.net/

And this is what they believe and teach:

1. That black people are the original people of the planet earth.

2. That black people are the fathers and mothers of civilization.

3. That the science of Supreme Mathematics is the key to
understanding man's relationship to the universe.

4. Islam is a natural way of life, not a religion.

5. That education should be fashioned to enable us to be self
sufficient as a people.

6. That each one should teach one according to their knowledge.

7. That the blackman is god and his proper name is ALLAH. Arm,
Leg, Leg, Arm, Head.

8. That our children are our link to the future and they
must be nurtured, respected, loved, protected and educated.

9. That the unified black family is the vital building block of
the nation.

Love "words I never said"

Brilliant song

While were on the subject of Muslim entertainers. Did you know that the singer known as 'Rumer' is Pakistani born with a Muslim father ? She is very popular in the UK and she has a voice similar to that of Karren Carpenter.
And has anyone heard of the Comedian Alex Maple? He is also Muslim. Real name Sikander Ishaq.

Rakim is a 5%, Chamillionaire talks about his religion in 'Void in my life' (amazing song btw), his mom was a Christian and his father a Muslim. Doesn't say which he believes in though.

inb4 someone says Nas.

RZA, GZA, Method Man.. essentially everyone part of the WuTang Clan are all 5%ers. As is Ice Cube.

Mos Def isn't a 5%er.. not sure about Talib Kweli, but Black Star had some 'Islamic' references in their songs. Q-Tip from Tribe is also not a 5%er.

Quit music. As did Napoleon from the Outlawz.

Tupac Shakur is also a Muslim....

A lot of Black Americans in US have accepted Islam during Malcolm-X's time....

There are a ton of black guys with the name Jamal or Rasheed.....
For black women, names like Shareefa, Fatima or Latifa are very common...

I love when people have names like Rasheed Wallace or Jamal Tinsley or Jamal MKinsey....

Its like Irish Muslim or British Muslim combo... :D

For the record, akon WAS a muslim and Tupac was NEVER a muslim. Funny story, couple of years ago was sitting with Akon in the studio, head over to pray with him, offer our prayers, get up and he asks me did you see the girls i . . . . . . last night? True story. You can actually see the last album and if you read the credits it will surprise you :amir

How WAS Akon a muslim? In simpler terms, how has he stopped being a Muslim?

Tupac was never a muslim.
I have met napoleon who confirmed the above fact when someone asked him.
Bizzy Bone was a muslim, i say was because i have no idea what he is following atm.
Flesh-n-bone IS a muslim, mashAllah doesnt drink alcohol anymore. But still raps/sings ( :D )

Napoleon is an allround great guy, came by here to give a lecture a few years back now. Loon was also supposed to come but he was apparently stopped at the border.

And yeah, Tupac was never a Muslim.

Those beliefs are similar to the ones of Nation of Islam.

No, they aren't. The current NOI isn't at all close to that and even the one of the past wasn't as heretical as this 5% filth.

It's amazing how pockets of American society can ruin pretty much anything you can give them.

You're right. They aren't as creative in their beliefs as the 5%ers, but Farrakhan and his followers are still on the same stuff Elijah Mohammad fed them.

While a huge chunk of the NOI, at least those that followed W.D. Mohammed came into 'mainstream Islam', the old school NOI is still quite active.

True enough but as I understand it there numbers took a pretty big hit. I think, now, we can safely say that only legitimate Islam is practiced by the majority of American Muslims.

Thank God for Mr. Shabbaz :amir

Loved Lupe's 1st two albums. Still trying to get into the last one

So are we really going to pretend 'Fighters' isn't one of the best Lupe songs of all time?

<iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/jrOoX6xGntc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I hope that God forgive us, all of us sinners
Turn us back in to beginners, put us up where the winners go
Holy apartments in the gardens in which the rivers flow
Thank you for all your blessings and all of your miracles

Win. Absolute win.

Also, Hip Hop Saved My Life.

My favorite Lupe song:
<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/EI6iZJOntY8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

"In the mix with my realities and feelings/ Living conditions, religion, ignorant wisdom and artistic vision/ I began to jot, tap the world and listen"

DOPE

They are NOI Muslims where they believe Luis Farrakhan is a messenger of God(naozbilla) and Jesus is going to come back on earth on alien spaceship. I can look this up if anybody needs a reference otherwise I am sure you can find this on youtube too...

Having said that I will also apologize if I am 'judging' or incorrect about any one of these Muslims and someone who is not a follower of NOI but maybe connected to NOI in one way or another...

Hurt Me Soul is definitely up there, The Instrumental is great too.

Looks like lupe is doing a song with your boy krayzie jackson maaaayn. Lupe fiasco and krayzie bone going to do a song together

add

Jimmy Cliff
Prince Buster

Reggae superstars
Not anymore. Don't think he can see clearly yet, he's still a struggling man. Still has many rivers to cross.

Are you still a practicing Muslim?

Well, you know the religious thing was a door, or a classroom, that I went through. And I've graduated from those classrooms now. I grew up and saw my family as Christians and I was disillusioned with that. Then I started looking, I saw Rastafari, which was a more natural way of looking at life. Then I saw Islam, then I saw Buddhism, then I saw Judaism.

They were all classrooms that I went through, to understand what was going on. And I've graduated from all of them. My thing in terms of spirituality now is to be in union with the absolute. Therefore I don't really need any religion or religious concepts.

Food and Liquor is definitely his best album.

Cant believe the people who get excited and proud of these singers claiming to be muslim..........

Some people are really just sheep who like to follow the herd, Islam is like a fashion statement for these artists, if they really where muslims...they wouldnt scream and shout about HOES DOLLERS AND BLING.

Man the Dajjalic puppets are truley doing a great job at keeping us 'muslims' confused....the God/Allah these guys sing to or praise is not the God you may think.

LOL, I'm not Muslim and I think Lupe is one of the illest rappers alive. You need to actually listen to him before making these types of posts.

Ok guys my bad.....i spoke too soon without listening to his lyrics....just assumed hel be the same as all the other so called muslim hip hop artists.

that said, dont think he should be doing songs with the likes of jay z and kanye west though.

^
Why not? Collaborating with Jayz would give him a lot more exposure internationally.

Sleeping with the enemy wont get you anywhere.

Thats the thing why sing about real world issues then at the same time colaborate with people who are very well known to be a part of the system your preaching against?

Is there any song hes done with jay z/kanye west or anyother jayz supported artist where hes sung about the same issues? (this is a question by the way as I dont know)

Not really into music at my age but downloaded that Lupe Fiasco album off hmv and the Muhammad Walks mp3 and must say they are very good.

(I doubt my recommendation carries any weight)

Also searched for Lupe Fiasco on my Virgin+ media OD thing and the only track on there featuring him is the one with Joy Denalane 'Change' which is also pretty cool. (My wife 'doesn't mind that one' which is high praise indeed).

Music is haram no matter what and whosoever does it.
We should not "appreciate" it, For gods sake.

I know there is gonna be a huge debate from my comment.

I like this song. Dude has potential.

edit: we need a rap thread, anyone up for it?

awesome album had plenty of time to listen to it in traffic jam today !

New Lupe album coming soon. I was quite disappointed with Lasers and the 'dubstep' mixtape he put out which were by and large garbage with a few exceptions.

So far 3 tracks have been leaked and I like them all, especially Lamborghini angels. Anyone else had a listen?

Rap music is a major contributory factor to the destruction of the black family unit. Its obsession with money, sex and violence have been destructive.

Obviously have no idea what you're talking about ... in this thread in particular.

Can't wait for F&L II ... Freedom Ain't Free :adnan

Can't wait for this new album to come out.

I reccomend everyone check out the new track and look into the lyrics and meaning. I don't think any rapper has ever gone that deep!

New album has leaked a while ago but I just dled it today. Its perhaps his best one yet IMO although this opinion may change after more listens.

Fo real??
I only listened to it once, wasn't feeling it at all.
Loved the last 2 albums, among my favs.

One of the best rappers out there...rapping about real stuff not just money, girls and drugs.

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/a-goPCAwt_k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

One from his new album!

Fascinating thread, loving the tracks.

Also continue to be disturbed by the general obsession with religion here. If there are three words that are a worse advertisement for a religion than 'music is haram' I have yet to find them.
