So, we have won yet another T20 series.

Great! Sarfraz is back to his shouting and celebrations as if we've won the world cup.

Congrats to everyone.

But, let's not forget that this form of cricket is there for just light entertainment.

Your importance and ratings in the cricket world do not hold much weight if you're "no. 1" in T20s.

BUT, not even in Top 5 in ODIs, or barely at #5 in Tests.

This does not mean you cannot celebrate a T20I win. Sure, you can!

But, history shows that we become complacent and think ALL IS WELL when we win something of not that great importance.

We must acknowledge we have to improve. And not judge our players, or team by T20 performances.

Wrist slitters and pessimists, can’t even enjoy a win

Its the most watched format , important or not its still the most popular form of cricket.

Nobody bothers to watch test cricket these days.

Well said. It's the usual script on here for some - win a T20 series against some mediocre opposition (such as Scotland, SL + WI B sides, Zimbabwe, SL and etc) and we get carried away.

Pakistan isn't the best T20I side because the batting is terrible.

What? :danish

Have you ever thought, why Pak's performances, and the individual brilliance by Abbas was being admired ALL OVER THE WORLD?

Be it the Aussie cricket legends, or their current cricketers (men / women alike!).. OR current GREAT fast bowlers in the game.

Why were they admiring Abbas?
Because he was playing Test cricket.

Why nobody in the world is talking about Imad Wasim's clean bowled wickets? Because nobody gives it importance.

T20 is one of the best forms of entertainment.

No doubt.

But it's just "time pass". It's like those dabba movies you watch - Mission Impossible, you have a good time in the cinema.

But can it match the class and importance of Interstellar? Or other great movie?

No.

You can see the sheer disappointment on the faces of the Aussies to see how much the defeat hurt them.

Wake up to reality. People will always be jealous.

Wrist slitters and pessimists, can’t even enjoy a win

Who said you cannot enjoy this win? Read my post..

You missed the point of my post. Can you please re-read?

Our history shows, we get complacent and think "all is good" after T20 wins. And then don't improve in the other formats.

You can see the sheer disappointment on the faces of the Aussies to see how much the defeat hurt them.

Wake up to reality. People will always be jealous.

Because those players are fighting for spots in ODIs or even first XI of their T20I side. Maxwell is an example.

Alright, so what? Should they stop winning these?

No.

Don't get complacent and think we're actually good to the extent you ignore the other formats.

I and others Were happy, Aussies were disappointed, that's true.

But let's not pretend we actually are the number 1 team. We're #7 in ODIs (borderline MINNOW) and barely at 5th in Tests.

Agree 100%. Win a series against Aus Z and all is forgiven.

Pakistan isn't the best T20I side because the batting is terrible.

Very true.

We're just going to pretend now that we're the best in the world.

But we're borderline minnow ranking (#7) in ODIs.. should not get complacent.

Also, on good batting surfaces (not low, slow like UAE), sides like IND, Aus, NZ can very well beat us in the T20s as well.

Those T20I series beating up weak teams was of little value.

I agree the two longer formats should be the priority. However beating NZ in NZ and Australia (twice) shows our #1 T20 ranking is not without merit.

Everyone pack your bags. We must forget this series and not celebrate at all.

Lol.

If only there was a T20 WC in 2018

If the T20 world cup was on flat, batting pitches, I can tell you we would have lost.

Babar, Malik, Sarfraz, Hafeez, Imad Wasim, Faheem, Shadab.

They are ALL accumulators.

When there are slow, low pitches (in UAE, ZIM, WI, SL) .. we can trap others in low scoring games. But other sides can beat us on good surfaces.

Imagine if we won a T20 World Cup or did well in them.

Imagine if T20 cricket was the most watched format of the game and what saved cricket commercially.

Imagine a side winning 10 series in a row and that too against the top sides.

Shame none of them are true...

Agree 100%. Win a series against Aus Z and all is forgiven.

Excuse me sir, this is not Australia Z. This is Australia Galli Muhalla XVIII. Please, don't disrespect Australia Z like that :((

T20s are the most watched format. Test k 5 din mai itna crowd nahi aata jitna t20 k 3 ghantay mai ata hai.

Why do you have a problem when people of Pakistan are happy and we are winning. Cricket bring smile to the face of Pakistani people and if these t20 series are making them happy whats the problem?

These are international matches being played and its importance can be understood by the fact that the result states:

England Beats Srilanka or Pakistan beats Australia which means countries are being represented just like in any other format.

Its not like zebras beating rhinos.

You're right.

We have bowlers who can trap others.

But our batting in T20s is still all accumulators man... imagine if it was a batting paradise pitch.

Yeah let us not pretend to be number 1. Let us feel embarassed on the fact that nobody has been able to beat us in 10 straight series in a row. Life is so hard. Further tough times ahead if we keep winning T20s.

Every win brings smiles. Sure, do enjoy.

But "test k 5 din mai itna crowd nahi aata"... for this, refer to the post below:

I don't think they will get complacent. Mickey is doing a good job in that regard.

They, however, are likely to make errors in selection.

I agree the batting definitely needs to add a couple of big hitters. That's why I'm willing to be patient with Asif Ali as he has a gear the others don't.

However we PLAYED on true, flat, batting-friendly wickets in Zimbabwe and WON the tournament ! We put up 180+ scores three times.

T20s is the most volatile format things can change quickly but no 1 is still no 1 enjoy it while it lasts a couple of series losses will change things quickly.

It is nice to be top of the T20 rankings but it's not the most important or significant thing in cricket. We should be using T20 bilaterals to experiment with our line up instead of selecting Hafeez and Malik.

There's no problem with being happy with the win but it shouldn't mask over our issues with the bat in LO cricket which have been on show in these 2 T20s.

Make no mistake - Hawkeye is frustrated because Pakistan won something under Sarfraz. What is the T20 team supposed to do? They are ruthlessly beating every team that comes their way. No one here will say Pakistan is the top dog in ODI and Test cricket on the basis of their T20 ranking.

I am pretty sure if it was Misbah you would be having the time of your life

T20 is a format for the future and here to stay, deal with it. Rankings aside, this is a great run by out T20 side. This Aus T20 side is still decent without Warner and Smith. Their top 4 are highly sough after by T20 leagues around the world. If they are struggling against spin on these pitches, is it Pakistan's fault?

We have a decent bowling lineup and our fielding is improving. However, there are still question marks on the batting. Players like Sahibzada and Talat are better suited for ODIs. Asif Ali is finding intl. cricket a jump too big. But we don't have many explosive openers and middle order batsmen back home who can play with strike rate of 140+ in T20s. So, I am not sure sure who can replace these 3. At this point, Babar and Malik to a large extent and Fakhar (struggles in UAE) and Sarfaraz (can't hit) to a lesser extent belong to this T20 lineup. This still leaves us with 2 gaping holes in our top 6.

Also scored 180 + twice in NZ to win that series.

Did we not also win test series against top nation namely Australia and won a ODI championship?
When Pak beat the likes of Zimbabwe, Sri lanka and West Indies in ODIs then the excuse is they are minnows. Yet same West Indies is giving India tough time in ODIs.
When Pak beat a top T20 team then the excuse is we can only win in UAE, even though we won in New Zealand also last time we toured there.since Pak is No1 in this format the format does not matter.

I am pretty sure if it was Misbah you would be having the time of your life

I wont be diplomatic and will say things as they are.

Misbah fans have shown their true colors and cant digest that Pakistan is doing well under Sarfraz with a very young team. Its so clear from their posts that they are hurt and badly want Pakistan to perform poorly to hail Misbah in one or another way. The portray as if Misbah left us with a world no 1 team in all formats and Sarfraz is the culprit for all what is wrong with Pakistan cricket. And sadly such 'fans' are in large numbers. Who need haters and enemies when you have such fans?

Sarfraz with a young team has a win loss record of 47 wins 1 draw and 23 loses all formats combined while he was given a team ranked no 6th in tests, no 7 in t20s and no 8 in odis by Misbah, Afridi and Azhar. So in before Misbah k pujari claim that we have defeated low ranked teams while in actual it was the legendary captain Misbah and his pal Afridi who gave Sarfraz a low ranked minnow team team. Won't fault Azhar much here.

T20 rankings are in general pretty volatile but can't argue in this case. Undefeated over so many T20 series must mean that Pakistan has shown attributes of the top ranked side with India a close 2nd. Whether this will translate to WT20 success I don't know because many teams rest their big guns in bilateral T20 matches.

Pakistan didnt have their first choice players Sharjeel, Khalid and Irfan after PSL 2017 and still won all the t20 series after that. In t20s you have a large pool of players and not a fixed x1 of big guns imo. This argument of other teams not having their best x1 and Pakistan had doesn't hold much value here in my view.

With Dhoni now dropped, Indian team I believe is the best T20 team around. They have gun batters, bowlers and Fielders. Every base is now covered with Rahul batting at 3, Kohli batting at 4. Pak has good bowling but a weak batting lineup. The last few games these two teams played were interesting with India coming on top. Would love to see a series between the two.

I don't know why people bash t20 so much it's still cricket at the end of the day granted ODI and test are the harder formats no will argue that but still be number one in t20 cricket is still a good achievement as well

Great thread!Just look at our pathetic batting line up.Babar,Hafeez and Malik couldn't even put the bad balls away whilst on the same pitch Maxwell and Coulter Nile were hitting sixes for fun.But yeah lets not give two hoots about this sorry display of the two twenty20 matches and do bhangra since the GOAT captain has won us the Halka Phulka Tuc trophy which matters more than this mediocre batting line up who is possibly gonna represent us in the all important world cup!

Sarfraz is obese and lacks professionalism but he does have some fighting spirit, his biggest weakness is biryani but he deserves respect for winning the CT and now 10 series on the trot along with his Pakistan Team. Many have spoken of how wins in high profile tournaments are devalued when teams which are not consistent in bilaterals win, the view in itself is absurd but the same folk are complaining when we've earned the no.1 rank in the format lol give yourself a slap!

Both teams batted on the same pitch and Pakistan scored more runs both times. Go back and watch the match again before running mouth.

For your kind information,I watched the whole 40 overs and the talented youngsta beauties and blessed in all facets were having a hard time hitting boundaries.Maxwell started off with 25 from 20 balls and ended up with 55 off 33 which means it was quite possible to accelerate at the end and hit big but Pakistan were unable to do so.Australia were just 11 runs short not 50.Just because we have won against this B grade Australia side doesn't mean we should overlook our woeful batting. It was the same case in Asia cup but seems like, people have forgotten it already. We haven't improved one bit!

What I am saying applies to all teams including Pakistan and India. No country plays the full strength team in T20s, more common to field best XI in ODIs and in tests it is almost a certainty. That is why T20 rankings aren't that good an indicator for WT20 success, entire dynamic changes when every team fields first XI. I am not downplaying anyone here, Pakistan have done well to be so consistent in this format.

Pk are a very good T20 side. I do not watch it but the record is fine and obviously in this format they have a formula. However just like ODIs - it means zilch if you don't have the WC in the format.

Tests are the only format where each game matters.

These are the best T20 players currently available to Australia and we beat them fair and square. Spoken like someone who hasn't played a day of cricket. Both innings do not have to follow the exact same script.

ODIs and T20s come down to who the champions are. That is the reality.

So lets just have WC every four years and nothing in between.

I did not say that. However the nature of the formats means the WC is the pinnacle. Tell me what value #1 has in ODIs or T20s if the #1 side doesn't win the WC in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

My point is Babar and Hafeez are wasting too many deliveries at the top!If Fakhar doesn't click, these two make it seem like we are playing a one day match. We couldn't even score 50 in the last 5 overs.Malik had an off day too today. He scored some 12 odd coming into the 16th over off 10 balls.

Did Pakistan not score more runs that Australia?
So that makes Pak batted better . Maxwell is a seasoned short form player yet batted too slowly and let the run rate rise too much and startrdhitting out when it was too late. He was also given 2 extra lives.

So should I chose a player who scores 50 off 33 or stick with the current lot who has been scoring run a ball 45 and 40's.We aren't playing ODI's are we?

Which set of players won the match?
Pak were 40 runs off first 5 overs. How many were Aus. If Malik Hafiz is or Babar had 3 lives and were batting in death overs who knows what their final strike rate would have been.

Babar and Hafeez got out as soon as they tried to hit the ball out of the park which speaks a lot about their ability to accelerate and score boundaries in the death overs specially babar.

You do know the big hitting Maxwell would also been out much earlier had we held our relatively easy catches. Does that show his hitting ability. No T20 format is such that when you try to hit out you can easily go out or land a boundary. Bottom line is Pak batted well enough to post a reasonable total to defend against some quality bowlers, whereas Aus were hopeless in the chase and got lucky with drop catches and some close run out chances missed.

Same BD fans who used to crow about rankings when they were above us :))

Changing the narrative as it suits them... no wonder BD fans don't want to bring up T20 rankings, they are even ranked below Afghanistan :)))

At one time Aus scored more with byes than the bat and that wonderful performance came from the opening partnership that included big hitting opener Finch, who also got out as soon as he tried to hit big.😎

The problems with ranking in t20s is, it is very volatile and doesn't really depicts a picture who has more ability. Today there will be one team, tomorrow it'll be another.

ODI and test ranking has been more consistent.

Having said that, t20 is perfect for Pakistan because Pakistani players lack the ability to concentrate in the game for a longer period of time. T20 doesn't require that and hence, I can see Pakistani batsman could excel in this area.

When it is time to be patient and build up innings with SR close to run a ball, that's where team Pakistan fails. And its not really a surprise why such is the case.

While T20I ranking is insignificant I think fans deserve to celebrate. Winning is winning

only thing i has that i enjoy over first country place in t20. "wo to khrab nah kero.... wasay to humi hur terf say marrrr perti hay " please please please!

Good, balanced post.
Syed1 if IND was ranked #1 in T20s* and had minnow level rankings in the other formats, you would've been the first one to make fun of them. :najam

T20 is good temporary entertainment. But not a measure of real quality.

T20s are a gamble. And require no thinking or strategy (as compared to ODIs/Tests). Just swing your bat.

It's good temporary fun.

But nobody, no team takes them seriously. It's fun time for a lot of teams. Of course they go out there to win.

No team takes T20Is more seriously than we do. And where we really stand, we have gotten a reality check in the Asia Cup.

Struggling to beat AFG, BD!

Wait.. we have lost consecutive 4 ODIs to BD already.

To you ranking don't matter but they do matter to the professionals and most fans. Why do you think Maxwell was crying at the end? Because he cared and his team cared about the result. You think teams go out there to just have fun and not take it seriously? You are delusional. What you are suggesting is that the teams do not care about their fans. Fans want to see their teams win, which is why they PAY MONEY to see them, and you think the Teams betray their fans? You are mistaken. Do not misunderstand when teams rotate their players. It is not that they aren't taking those matches seriously but simply they are resting some players and giving others chances, so they can further improve their team. Do you think it is easy playing 3 formats of cricket? You believe team should play their strongest XI is all the games? You clearly do not understand cricket nor sports. Yes test and ODI might be given more importance but that does not mean T20I is not taken seriously.

In soccer when Barcelona (or any team) does not play their strongest XI are they not taking that match seriously? You think they don't care about losing the game? Of course they do care if they lose the game they lose points and if they lose points they lose the title. By your logic Barcelona should be playing their strongest XI in every match. But that not possible, players need to be rested and others need to be given chances. We have been giving youngsters changes as well, but you seem to ignore that because of you agendas.

As far as you saying T20I are a gamble my reply to you... 10 consecutive series victories.

When was a last time a team scored 200 in a T20 in UAE?

You do know Pak holds the record of 4 consecutive 180 + scores in T20? How did that happen with Babar in the team?

Due to the nature of the wickets in NZ and in Zim where we played T20 s before UAE. Wickets were much faster and ball was coming on the bat nicely, UAE offers slow wickets so even 150 is a pretty decent total.
