What's new

Manchester United | 2019/20 Season

Did you believe the same when klopp was finishing 8th and 4th for 3 seasons with LP and them making sighings like Karius, ings, Benteke?????

Klopp wasn't around at the start when LFC finished 8th and Klopp wasn't around when Benteke signed. lol

Klopp in his first full season qualified in the Champions League. Lets see if Ole Ole Ole can.

You cant compare a man who has just won the Best Manager in the World Award to a boy scout like Ole :))

I said 'them' meaning liverpool signed beneteke in relation to what was said about mu signing rubbish. So 'lol' at something else.
Lets not forget about selling Torress and signing Carol, selling suarez and signing balotelli, now lol

Yes under klopp LP started recruiting well, but so have we under ole, his signings have done well and integrated into the team.

Also Klopp i believe joined LP in oct, had ample time to do better then finish 8th, ole joined mu much later in the season and mu was in a much worse state yet did better.

So you can call ole a boy scout but then that also make klopp a boy scout in his first 2 seasons.

And as for qualifying for CL, ole should have no excuses about it anymore with everyone else dropping points.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has defended himself against accusations he put his own interests ahead of Marcus Rashford's following the striker's injury setback.

Manchester United forward Rashford is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a stress fracture of the back in last week's FA Cup clash against Wolves.

Former Arsenal and England forward Ian Wright said Solskjaer "thought about himself before the player" when he sent Rashford on as a substitute in the third-round replay at Old Trafford.

Wright's comment came after reports Rashford had already been carrying an injury before the game and exacerbated it in his 16 minutes on the field.

That has been denied by United manager Solskjaer and the Norwegian insists he would never jeopardise a player's fitness to win a game and ease pressure on himself.

Solskjaer said: "No, I never put myself before the team. I always put the team and the club before anything else.

"Marcus has had minor discomfort in his back since the Burnley game. That's maybe two weeks before this game.

"We've had scans, we've monitored him. There's not been any injury there. He's had complaints, yes, and I had a discussion with him the day or two days before [and said], 'FA Cup, I'm going to rest you'.

"He felt fine. He was very, very adamant that if needed he could at least do half an hour because we want to go through in the cup. That just shows you Marcus' attitude.

"He had no complaints training the day before the game. He looked very free and when I asked him if it was OK to be on the bench - no problem. He wanted to come on. It's just one of those unfortunate things.

"We have to manage players every single day, loads of things that Ian Wright or anyone doesn't know about."

Solskjaer has previously been coy about how long Rashford may be out but he does now seem to accept the 22-year-old could be missing for months rather than weeks.

The Norwegian said: "We know that Marcus is out for a few months. That will take its toll on the team because we are stretched."

Solskjaer, who was holding a press conference to preview Wednesday's home game against Burnley, was unclear when asked directly if Rashford could miss the remainder of the season, harming his chances of playing in Euro 2020.

He said: "Marcus is going to get as long as he needs to get fit. We are not going to risk him when he has had an injury. I have got the best medical staff in the country and I am sure when Marcus comes back he will be 100 per cent fit."

Solskjaer has suggested he may look to the transfer market to cover for Rashford's absence.

He said: "That is the million dollar question for us because Marcus has been fantastic. Someone's got to step up.

"If we find something in the transfer market that might be one solution, but the best solution is the players stepping up and taking their chance."

Solskjaer stressed it was important the club are not forced to overpay or accede to too many agents' requests.

This comes at a time when United's attempts to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes appear to have stalled over the fee.

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford insists he will play before the end of the season as he recuperates from a stress fracture.

The England international, 22, was injured after coming on as a substitute during the FA Cup third-round replay win against Wolves on 15 January.

Some reports suggested the forward, who has scored 19 goals for United this season, could miss two months.

But Rashford said on Twitter: "Blink and I'll be back, fitter than ever."

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he will give Rashford "as long as he needs" to get fit.

The precise length of his absence with a back injury is unknown.

Solskjaer has refused to offer any assurances about Rashford being back for the end of the season, or even Euro 2020, saying it would be at least six weeks before the striker is fit to start training.

Others who have suffered similar injuries say it will be much longer.

But Rashford wrote on Wednesday: "I'll be back before the season ends to hopefully help my team claim top four."

Earlier, Solskjaer said: "Marcus is going to get as long as he needs. We are not going to risk him when he has had an injury. When he comes back he will be 100% fit."

'I never put myself before the team'

Former Arsenal and England forward Ian Wright has accused the United boss of putting his own needs ahead of those of Rashford by playing the forward against Wolves.

The Norwegian denies the allegation strongly.

"I never put myself before the team," Solskjaer said. "I put the team and the club before anything else.

"Yes, he had minor discomfort but he had scans. We monitored him. We have to manage players every single day. There are loads of things Ian Wright, or anyone else, doesn't know about."

Solskjaer said Rashford was not suffering from a stress fracture prior to the Wolves game.

"He trained the day before and did really well," he said. "He looked free. I asked him if he was OK to be on the bench and he said it was no problem."

Rashford's absence has thrown into focus the decision to let Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez join Inter Milan last summer. There is no break clause in Sanchez's loan deal, meaning United will continue paying the Chilean's wages as they look for a short-term solution to what Solskjaer accepts is a stretched squad.

AC Milan's Polish forward Krzysztof Piatek is the latest name to be linked with a move to Old Trafford, although that would almost certainly need to be a permanent deal rather than the loan United are initially looking for.

Neither Piatek, nor any alternative, will be available for Wednesday's Premier League encounter with Burnley.

Solskjaer has ruled out picking 19-year-old D'Mani Mellor, a substitute in November's Europa League game against Astana, so the responsibility of filling the void left by United's 19-goal top scorer against Burnley will fall on Anthony Martial and 18-year-old Mason Greenwood.

"Someone has to step up," said Solskjaer.

"Marcus has been fantastic and while we may find something in the transfer market, the best solution is the players making sure they are ready and taking their chance -because what has happened will create chances."

Why do Manchester United fans compare Ole with Klopp? Klopp made progress every year he has been at Liverpool. Furthermore he has proven track record. United aren't making progress under Ole and Ole doesn't have proven record. In fact he has a rubbish record as a manager.

Did you believe the same when klopp was finishing 8th and 4th for 3 seasons with LP and them making sighings like Karius, ings, Benteke?????

It was Rodgers I believe who bought in the likes of Ings and Benteke. Yes I believed they were terrible signings at the time and was glad when we sacked the now Leicester manager. Don't know why Man Utd are not sacking Ole who will take you nowhere.

It was important to clarify as your post was not clear.

Klopp did come in Oct but came into a team in dissary. I wont judge him, Ole or any other manager until they are in charge of a full season. Klopp did great and Ole will also have done great if he qualifies for the CL.

However it seems Poch will be in charge next summer, whatever Ole does from now on.

The way things are going, this could happen sooner. United currently down 2-0 to Burnley. They had chances which they should have taken in the first half and were completely dominant. However the second half they really aren't creating much at all.

Things just go from bad to worse.

Solskjaer is out of his depth in the job, many of the players are not good enough. The club needs a massive overhaul.

30 points, let me repeat, 30 points behind Liverpool.

The Maguire transfer is proving to be hilarious.

Leicester sold an £18m defender for £80m because he happens to be English, and then replaced him internally with a clearly superior CB whom they bought in 2018 in for only £19m because he wasn’t English.

United thought they were getting the next Van Dijk when Maguire is basically a clone of Phil Jones.

The biggest con-move since Newcastle sold Carroll to Liverpool for £35m in 2011.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United need to make 'quality' signings after Burnley defeat

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United need "quality" signings to help his mentally fatigued young squad after losing to Burnley.

The Clarets plunged more misery on United as they beat Solskjaer's side 2-0 to claim their first win at Old Trafford for 58 years.

It was a similar story for United as they enjoyed over 70 per cent possession and a huge amount of territory but had no end product.

Solskjaer is currently without key players Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford through injury and is hopeful of strengthening his squad before the January window shuts.

Solskjaer said: "I'm responsible for what is happening on the pitch, we're looking to strengthen, we need to strengthen. We know that.

"We took the decision to let some players go as we needed to start afresh with a clear sight on the target in front of us which is a certain type of player. We know we need to get quality in and numbers in.

He added: "We are working to improve and get players in. Hopefully, we can get something over the line. These players are stretched, and I've got no complaints on any of them - they give everything they've got.

"We've got to stick to our values, stick to our beliefs. And knowing that there is no use feeling sorry for yourself. Go out tomorrow, the next day with the same commitment and get ready for Sunday. We are stretched. Some of the players have played more than they should've - more mentally rather than psychically, they need a mid-season break."

United could have moved to within three points of Chelsea in fourth with a win but Chris Wood's goal and a stunning effort from Jay Rodriguez further dented their hopes of climbing the league.

Although it was only their second home defeat of the campaign, the frustration was clear to hear from the home sections of the ground.

"We didn't play well enough - they scored their chances, we didn't take ours," Solskjaer said.

"It was disappointing. Lately, we've played better in these types of games and dominated. Today we didn't get the first goal and that took a lot of belief out of us. Burnley do make it hard to play against them. The players are disappointed but they gave everything once again - the effort is there.

"I'm in charge, so it's down to me to get these boys going. On the pitch we've got a few leaders there and there's young players experiencing these kind of expectations. It's a difficult period. It's a hard period for them. They've only had 10-12 games some of them. Brandan (Williams) has been fantastic, Aaron (Wan-Bissaka) has been fantastic. We expect a lot of them but sometimes you understand these performances.

"We as a group didn't perform well enough and they deserved the win.

"Today wasn't a fair reflection on this group of the season - they've done fantastic at times. I can't sit here and do anything but hold my hands up and say 'that's not good enough for Manchester United' but that's where we're at with all the players.

"It's not like we've got 10 players on the bench that we can rotate - they've played and they've done fantastic."

Manchester United's latest defeat has seen the atmosphere turn "toxic" at Old Trafford, says former midfielder Darren Fletcher.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team were booed off the pitch after a 2-0 home defeat by Burnley left them six points off a Champions League spot.

"The scenes in the stadium weren't good," said Fletcher, a five-time Premier League winner with United.

"The chanting, the atmosphere really turned toxic for the first time."

On a bitterly disappointing night for United, goals by Chris Wood and Jay Rodriguez earned Burnley a first ever Premier League win at Old Trafford.

Since Solskjaer was made permanent manager in March, United have lost more Premier League games (12) than they have won (11).

They are fifth in the table - a massive 30 points behind leaders Liverpool, who have two games in hand.

By the time Jonathan Moss blew the final whistle on Wednesday, thousands of United fans had already left Old Trafford.

Fletcher fears the atmosphere at Old Trafford could hurt United's younger players if it does not improve.

Manchester United
Home fans were leaving before the end of the game as Manchester United headed for defeat
"At the minute you can see with every setback these youngsters are just sinking," he added on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"The scrutiny and the pressure that these kids are under - it was difficult for me coming into the team and I was surrounded by world-class players left, right and centre.

"These lads don't have that support network around them and they are really finding it difficult.

"It might make a few of them, but at the same time it will probably break a few of them as well, which is really disappointing."

During the game, fans vented their frustration with vitriolic chants against United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and the club's owners the Glazer family.

Ian Dennis, senior football reporter for BBC Radio 5 Live, who was commentating at Old Trafford, said: "Regardless of your opinion of Ed Woodward, you cannot ask for someone to die.

"If you want to be anti the board then sing 'sack the board', but individuals singing that about a human being is an absolute outrage. The chanting is an absolute disgrace."

Asked about his thoughts on the chanting, Solskjaer said after the game: "For me it's important that we stick together.

"Help the players, help the team and help the club to move forward. I think everyone knows when they have overstepped the line."

'Embarrassing night'
Former United defender Rio Ferdinand labelled the night an "embarrassment" and urged those in charge of the club to take action.

"I can't defend this. What has been invested?" Ferdinand, who won six Premier League titles and one Champions League at United between 2002-2014, told BT Sport.

"These young kids now in schools around the country, they are not going to be wearing Manchester United shirts.

"They are not going to be wanting to come here and support Manchester United based on what you are seeing out there. It's just not going to happen, fans are walking out after 84 minutes.

"It's an embarrassment. People at the top need to look and see this and make changes, put a plan in place that people can sit there and see where we are going now. I don't see it."

View of half-empty Old Trafford stand
Ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand said fans leaving so early was unheard of at Old Trafford
Former Tottenham and Liverpool forward Peter Crouch described United's squad as "the worst in the last 30 years".

Speaking on BT Sport, the ex-England player added: "Look at the options off the bench. It is miles off it.

"I don't know what a Manchester United player is anymore. Most of the players that Manchester United have bought in the last five years have gone backwards."

'I don't think Solskjaer will last'
Solskjaer signed a three-year contract when he was appointed permanent boss last March after a successful stint as caretaker.

Speaking on Match of the Day, former Arsenal defender Martin Keown questioned whether Solskjaer would still be in charge at the start of next season.

Solskjaer won't last beyond this season - Martin Keown
"Alarm bells are ringing," said Keown.

"I don't think he is going to last beyond the end of the season. I know people are saying he should be given more time but this is Manchester United, it is a massive football club."

Phil Neville, a former player and coach at United who was also on Match of the Day, disagreed with Keown.

"I think they have got to stick with him," added Neville.

"The squad to me looks light, it looks inexperienced, it looks weighed down by the expectation.

"I think they need two signings in this window to have any kind of success this season.

"United are where they are at this moment in time and people have got to accept it."

Its not exactly true that the glazers never invest, they put in £600m+ in signings for LVG and Mourinho.
MU are still paying the price for appointing jose, who paid over the odds and gave them the highest wage bill in football, which now means they need to get rid players, lower the bill and wont pay £5m extra for bruno, they need to get rid of pogba and sanchez asap, woodward and mourinho messed us up with terrible recruitment.

Therefore people who are saying ole is getting the sack and poch is coming here, are having a laugh, no manager will come here if there not guaranteed the funds to rebuild. According to reports poch was offered the job with terms which said hes not getting a DoF and only one signing per window which he rejected. Ole is doing woodwards dirty work, mopping up the mess he has made, getting rid of players and signing cheap ones to rebuild the foundations.

ManU are in absolute shambles - this is painful for even me, a life long LFC fan and someone supports even Everton, if it's against ManU. I had always been hoping for a fall of the Red Devils, but this is something I am not enjoying. Unlike the pass-time projects of sugar dads, ManU is an institution, like Liverpool.

I think, ManU and their former players deserve this. Since SAF, they have appointed two of the best ever Managers in LVG and Jose Mou - both of them were verbally humiliated by the former ManU players in media, particularly the so called class of '92. I was expecting one of them to be appointed - Giggs, Scholes, Butt or the Nevil Bros .... at least Ole is showing them what it's like on that hot seat. I am enjoying the "silence" of serial trolls like Scholes and Nevil, who had been humiliating every MU Manager since Sir Alex.

The big blunder for MU was to appoint Jou Mou, but bigger blunder was to appoint him and then dictate his terms. Mou has many issues and he is not the saint, but he knows his soccer and he knows how to get result - he did warn ManU by listing MU's 2nd position finish (20+ points behind MCity) as his greatest achievement. At present, MU Board is in dilemma of their Manager - they have sacked two of the best managers ever and now stuck with Ole, who was sacked by Cardiff City, FGS. But, changing Manager won't work here unless they start their project from scratch.

I think, the problem with their owners & board is unrealistic expectations - there won't be a second Sir Alex and the old man left MU at their decline, leaving them in a state like what was 30 years back, when he took over. Since then, MU board has kept high expectations, tried to quick fix things by pouring money, which they had plenty (but not much, going forward like this); it back fired. To my understanding, what MU needs most now is PATIENCE - hire a top class, experienced Manager for long-term, give him time and space, and allow their young team to develop. MU has one record which will never be broken in soccer history - for 56 years & counting, every League/European game, MU has at least one own academy player in playing XI; this is what differentiates MU from ManCity.

I read, Poch could be in line, which I am not sure could be a success. Poch was brilliant in Daniel Levy's budget squad with "limited" expectations and he is a great Manager for such "projects", where you sell your best players, operate in a wage cap and make transfer profits ....... The best man that probably MU could have hired is now at Everton and Mosheri (Usmanov) has hit the jackpot by appointing him for 5 years. Among the rest, I'll seriously think about Rafa, though he might not join Liverpool's bitter rival.

Whoever is the next man - Poch, Allegri, Rogers, Rafa, Tuchel, Ragnik, Howe ..... needs to be given time and a realistic target to build, otherwise they are caught in this vicious cycle for long, long time.

Lol. United would never consider Rafa. In any case there are better options out there, most of which you have listed.

I think they will give Ole until the end of the season however I'm not so sure the manager is the problem. Woodward has been a liability and as some pundits have mentioned (Rio, Keane, G Nev) the recruitment has been average to say the least since Woodward came in as CEO.

I agree with you though - you have to back a manager for the long term because chopping and changing managers won't help stabalise the club.

It is a complete and utter shambles. There are some promising younger players, but they need at least 2-3 experienced world class players to come in and help them out.

Pogba will go in the summer and to replace him they will need to buy a player that will be able to play that final ball and assist players with cutting passes from midfield. Without Pogba in the team no other player really has that vision except Mata, although he hasn't had much game time.

It keeps getting worse for Man Utd. They are a complete mess from the owners to the players. They have overpaid for average players who are not performing at all. The fans are walking away now thinking this is like the 1970's and 1980's when they were holding on to Liverpool's coat tails. Thing is that no player wants to join a sinking ship or play for a rookie manager who has achieved nothing as manager. Sacking him now means starting all over again, the incoming manager will again be demanding a few years to get it right. Don't understand why many of their fans think their is a lack of investment in the team when near £1 billion has been spent over the past few years. This was Old Trafford yesterday about ten minutes before Burnley's victory.

Your love for Rafa Benitez is very weird. Sacked by Inter Milan and Real Madrid. He didn't win the league at Napoli. Steve Bruce has more points at this stage of this season than Rafa did last year. So the job he was doing at Newcastle was ovverated. He would not be the right appointment for Manchester United. Just because he parked the bus in some European ties 15 years ago doesn't mean he is a fit for a modern day team. Also he has been available for the last 18 months and he ends up in China. I don't think in modern day football teams who always changing managers would have passed up on Rafa if you think he is as good as he is.

Coming to Ancelotti. He has had complaints about his training and has been sacked at his last 3 clubs. That 4 year deal isn't so smart believe me. Also got his son employed by Everton as well! Again Ancelotti has been passed on by other clubs for a reason. He maybe passed it.

Your love for the past in football is very similar to what Junaids love for the past in cricket.

Manchester United have been fined £20,000 for failing to ensure their players "conducted themselves in an orderly fashion".

United admitted breaching Football Association Rule E20 after their players surrounded referee Craig Pawson in the 26th minute of Sunday's 2-0 Premier League defeat at Liverpool.

Pawson had allowed a goal by Robert Firmino, with Liverpool leading 1-0.

But a foul in the build-up caused the video assistant referee to rule it out.

Not surprising at all. As was in Fergie's era they are unable to handle decisions that go against them. De Gea should have at least waited a few minutes letting the referee think about his decision before bad mouthing him. It was always gonna go upstairs so he got himself a yellow card for no reason at all. That is Man Utd for you always thinking they have a divine right to win and every decision should go in their favour. They have been using these bullying the referee tactics for years now.

Seems you have completely gone bonkers seeing the utter humiliation you are experiencing. Now what has VVD got to do with Burnley tanking you at home!?:hasan2 No reason for a Liverpool fan to give up like Man Utd ones have. All you can do is cry over small incidents that only you saw. No Man Utd player or official complained about VVD's goal. Not our fault that you paid £80 million on an average defender, only Man Utd can be stupid enough to do that:))

Alexis Sanchez will return from a loan spell in Italy and make a success of his Manchester United career, says the club's manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Chile forward Sanchez, 31, is set to return to United in the summer after a season with Inter Milan.

He left Old Trafford having scored five times in 45 games following a move from Arsenal in January 2018.

"Alexis will come back in the summer and prove you all wrong," said Solskjaer.

Man Utd forward Sanchez joins Inter Milan on loan
Sanchez, United's highest earner on about £400,000 a week, has said he doesn't "regret going there" despite struggling to make an impact.

Injuries have hampered his appearances at Inter, meaning he has played just seven times for the Serie A side this season and scored one goal.

Meanwhile, with United's attempt to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes this month stalling over the fee, Solskjaer has said doing deals in January is difficult.

"We've got players here we're working hard to get back as well and if there is something out there, then the club are pursuing that and looking at it," he said.

"Of course it is a difficult window. It always has been. The clubs don't want to lose their best players.

"I can't remember how many good ones we've brought in in January. Henrik (Larsson) was good, Nemanja (Vidic) and Patrice (Evra) were two good ones."

Man Utd need perfection against Man City
United play at Manchester City in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday as they bid to overturn a 3-1 deficit.

"It has to be a perfect performance to win with two goals against such a good team away from home," said Solskjaer.

"For us it's not about away goals, we just need to score two more than them.

"If we concede two we need to score four so it would be good not to concede first because that makes it less difficult."

Of course he will return coz he has flopped at Inter Milan. Man Utd just adding spin to another terrible signing they have made making it sound as if Sanchez has been a success there. Liverpool played £75 million for the incredible VVD making it out to a bargain signing where as they did £80 for McGuire tells how stupid they are.

Congratulations to Man City in advance for eliminating Man Utd from he awesome League Cup!:wahab2

I meant Man Utd paid £80 million for McGuire is another laughable transfer they agreed to. Our £75 million man VVD is ten times the player McGuire ever was or will be. They have no clue how the market is at all over paying by miles for at best average players.

Barcelona have opened talks with Sporting Lisbon over a deal to sign Manchester United target Bruno Fernandes.

Sky Sports News can confirm reports in Spain the Catalans have proposed signing him this summer until 2025 but will loan him to Valencia until the end of the 2020-21 season.

Barcelona are currently in talks with Valencia over a deal to sign striker Rodrigo and reports in Spain say they are hoping this new proposal can help get a deal over the line.

United and Sporting remain apart in their valuations for Fernandes despite protracted talks over a deal to Old Trafford this month.

The Cheshire home of Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has been attacked by a group chanting that he was "going to die".

A video posted on social media showed an individual throwing a red flare over a large gate, while others sang songs aimed at the 48-year-old.

Woodward, who is married with two young children, was not present at the time.

Manchester United said anyone committing a criminal offence or trespassing will be banned for life.

A club statement added: "Fans expressing opinion is one thing, criminal damage and intent to endanger life is another. There is simply no excuse for this.

"We know that the football world will unite behind us as we work with Greater Manchester Police to identify the perpetrators of this unwarranted attack."

Woodward has been the subject of growing supporter discontent at United in recent weeks.

Manchester United sit fifth in the Premier League - 33 points behind leaders Liverpool - and Woodward has been the target of blame by many fans.

Both at the recent home game against Burnley and Sunday's FA Cup victory over Tranmere, supporters have sung the same song about Woodward and made repeated calls for the club's owners, the Glazer family, to leave.

The incident is reminiscent of another attack, in 2004, on the car of then club director Maurice Watkins, whose shares ended up being bought by Malcolm Glazer as his bid for the club gathered pace.

Woodward advised Malcolm Glazer and the Glazer family during its successful takeover of the club in 2005 before being recruited as a senior member of staff.

United play local rivals Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg on Wednesday and trail 3-1 on aggregate.

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.

United will pay an initial fee of around 55m euros (£47m) for the 25-year-old, though add-ons could increase the overall cost to 80m euros (£67.6m).

Fernandes' move is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms.

United have been in negotiations with Sporting throughout the transfer window but made a breakthrough on Tuesday amid reports of interest from Barcelona.

Bruno Fernandes says he will give "everything" to bring "success and trophies" to Manchester United after joining on a five-and-a-half year deal from Sporting Lisbon.

The midfielder, 25, has joined for 55m euros (£47m) but add-ons could increase the overall cost to 80m euros (£67.7m).

"For me to now play for Manchester United feels incredible," said Portuguese international Fernandes.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said the midfielder was a "fantastic addition".

Fernandes' move is the biggest in the Premier League so far during the January transfer window - with the deadline at 23:00 GMT on Friday. He follows Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Marcos Rojo in joining Manchester United from Sporting.

His deal, which runs until 2025, also has an option to extend for a further year.

"My love of Manchester United really started when I used to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play and ever since then I have been a big fan of this great club," added Fernandes.

"I have worked hard to get to this moment and I can promise the fans that I will give everything for the badge to help bring us more success and trophies.

"I want to thank Sporting for everything they have done for me. It is surreal to hear the nice words that have been said about me from players that used to play for this team."

'Bruno's stats speak for themselves'
Fernandes joined Sporting for £7.2m from Sampdoria in 2017 and the club's former manager Carlos Carvalhal told BBC World Service United had signed a player "from another level".

The midfielder scored 64 goals in 137 matches in all competitions for Sporting and won the Portuguese Cup in 2018-19.

He was named the Primeira Liga's player of the year in both 2017-18 and 2018-19 and has played 19 times for his country - winning the Uefa Nations League in 2019.

Solskjaer said: "Bruno's goals and assists stats speak for themselves. He will be a fantastic addition to our team and he will help us push on in the second part of the season.

"We have been tracking Bruno for many months and everyone here has been tremendously impressed with all his attributes and what he will bring to this team.

"Most importantly, he is a terrific human being with a great personality and his leadership qualities are clear for all to see."

The fee paid to Sporting will increase if a series of conditions are met - including United's qualification for the Champions League.

United would pay an additional 5m euros (£4.2m) if they achieve Champions League qualification, with a further 5m euros subject to Fernandes' participation. The remaining payment of 15m euros (£12.6m) is based on individual player prizes.

Can Bruno Fernandes be a success at Manchester United?
Analysis - 'A player from another level'
Former Sporting CP and Swansea City manager Carlos Carvalhal on BBC World Service:

He's a player from another level. He's not a number 10; don't expect him to play there. He's more a number eight - but at the same time he has a very good last pass and very good delivery from free-kicks and corners.

He's a leader because if you see him play you will notice that he is talking to team-mates all the time. Very good players don't need time to adapt; very good players can play in all countries. The way that he plays and the quality that he has, he'll be a completely adapted player after two to three days, you will see.

Everyone here in Portugal expected that he would move. Nobody expected him to start the season here because all of us know that he belongs to a completely different level of football. Even the fans of Sporting expected him to move in the summer. Everyone was waiting for him to move to England or Spain and to a massive club such as Manchester United.

Manchester United have signed former Watford striker Odion Ighalo from Shanghai Shenhua on loan until the end of the season.

The deal to bring the 30-year-old Nigeria international to Old Trafford contains no option to buy.

Ighalo, who is still in China but is expected to fly to the UK in the next few days, scored 39 goals in 99 matches for Watford between 2014 and 2017.

"Odion is an experienced player," said United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"He will come in and give us an option of a different type of centre-forward for the short spell he's staying with us.

"A great lad and very professional, he will make the most of his time here."

Ighalo moved to the Chinese Super League in 2017, first with Changchun Yatai. After two seasons he moved to Shanghai Shenhua and has scored 10 times in 19 games.

A last-gasp scramble & 'beating Mourinho' - how Man Utd landed lifelong fan Ighalo
His form for his country has been eye-catching, finishing as top scorer in African Cup of Nations qualifying with seven goals, before scoring five at the tournament during the summer.

It is understood there was interest from other Premier League clubs but Ighalo wanted to play for United.

He is United's first senior loan signing since Radamel Falcao's arrival from Monaco in 2014.

Ighalo (left) was picture wearing a Manchester United shirt during his childhood
Ighalo (left) was pictured wearing a Manchester United shirt during his childhood
Earlier on Friday, United ended interest in Bournemouth's Josh King but did sign Southend United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop for an undisclosed fee.

United accept Ighalo does not fit the club's policy of trying to sign long-term targets, such as Bruno Fernandes, who moved to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon on Thursday.

However, this move has been done to cover the short-term injury to Marcus Rashford and they could not go the rest of the season without bringing in a replacement.

England international Rashford, 22, is out with a stress fracture in his back sustained after coming on as a substitute during the FA Cup third-round replay win against Wolves on 15 January.

'He turned down Barcelona last year'
BBC World Service's John Bennett

Back in 2015 after Watford's promotion from the Championship, Ighalo was asked where he was most looking forward to playing in his first Premier League season.

No hesitation: "Old Trafford. It'll be a dream come true to play against Manchester United, the team I supported in my youth". Little did he know what would happen almost five years later.

Odion does a huge amount of charity work for people in Nigeria and he's also still a very talented striker.

It's a left-field move by United and I'm also sure that you'll have read and heard all the negatives so to balance things out let me give you some positives: Ighalo is a natural number nine and a natural goalscorer with pace and power.

Barcelona tried to sign him just 12 months ago because they wanted that type of player. He turned them down.

He is a very strong character, too. The Nigerian got a lot of criticism back home after missing chances when the Super Eagles were knocked out by Argentina at the last World Cup (including abuse aimed at his family) but he came back stronger to finish top scorer not only in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying but also at the tournament itself, ahead of the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Riyad Mahrez.

Ighalo's proven in the Premier League and will be able to hit the ground running, fitness permitting.

He'll also be a very popular team-mate who will give his all to be a success at United. Nobody will work harder.

It's almost like a homecoming, too, as Ighalo's family has been based in Manchester.

It's a fairytale move for the United fan from Lagos. Now let's see if, not for the first time in his career, he can prove the doubters wrong.

'He's a boyhood fan'
Nigeria football writer Oluwashina Okeleji

Fifteen years after football fans witnessed the collapse of John Mikel Obi's transfer to Manchester United, Nigerians will finally get a chance to see one their own become a Red Devil. At 30, Odion Ighalo becomes the first Super Eagle to move to Old Trafford.

Born in a poverty-stricken Lagos ghetto, Ajegunle, Ighalo is a boyhood fan of United. He watched on TV as his striking favourites Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole helped them to the treble in 1999.

Fans in his West African nation closely follow the Premier League, which recruit some of the continent's best players.

Manchester United has a huge fan base in Nigeria and many believe Ighalo will be a success at Old Trafford having retired from international football on a high in 2019.

Ighalo finished as top scorer at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations before calling time on his international career at the end of the tournament in Egypt.

He produced seven goals to finish top scorer in the qualifying and his five goals and one assist helped Nigeria finish third last summer.

Many expected him to fade away in Asia after leaving Watford for Chinese Super League (CSL) club Changchun Yatai. But his pace, instinctive finish and ability to find space has helped him to relative success in China

Ighalo finished as the 2018 CSL's second-top scorer with 21 goals and despite an injury-hit season he scored 10 goals in 17 appearances for new club Shanghai Shenhua in 2019, helping them to FA Cup success.

Bruno is a good signing....but will play under a poor manager.

Odion Ighalo deal shows poor Manchester United transfer planning, says Gary Neville
Gary Neville believes Manchester United's last-minute loan deal for Odion Ighalo underlines their poor planning in the transfer market.

Former Watford striker Ighalo, who has spent the last three years playing in China, is heading to Old Trafford on a short-term contract until the end of the season after United reached an agreement with Shanghai Shenhua on Deadline Day.

The 30-year-old will provide cover for the injured Marcus Rashford, but Neville is puzzled as to why his former club did not have long-term targets lined up following the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.

"They just needed a body in that area," he said ahead of Manchester United's meeting with Wolves. "Rashford's going to be out for another couple of months.

"I can't let the club off the hook though, unfortunately. Romelu Lukaku told us a couple of weeks ago that he had said he was going to leave last February or March.

"That's nine months to be able to manoeuvre and get into a position to sign a striker for the club for the long-term. And yet they have ended up desperately doing one on Deadline Day.

"The boy may do very well. He might come in and settle in, he might score goals and do a job for the club.

"But the fact that the club were in that position, knowing that Sanchez and Lukaku were leaving for many, many months, tells us that Manchester United, at this moment in time, are struggling to navigate through the transfer market smartly."

'Recruitment in forward areas not good enough'

After United's 0-0 draw at Wolves, where they failed to produce a single clear-cut opportunity in the stalemate at Old Trafford, Neville said his former club's recruitment had specifically stalled in forward areas, despite considerable financial investment in attacking players in recent years.

"You can go back to Falcao, Di Maria, other players, Depay was young at the time, but players they've signed in forward areas on the pitch haven't been good enough," he said.

"You look at what Liverpool, Man City and Tottenham have done, and compare it to what Manchester United have done. If the recruitment is wrong you ultimately end up paying for it.

"The gameplan today was fine from United. If you were playing with Messi, Suarez and Neymar up front you'd probably play the same way against Wolves. You'd control the game and wait for that moment and one of your front three would go and deliver for you. United don't have that front three at the moment who can go and provide that moment of magic.

"They've signed Ighalo - maybe he can give a bit more presence in terms of putting crosses into the box.

"The fact is, United were chasing a goal at 0-0 and they've had to bring on Jesse Lingard and Diogo Dalot, that tells you exactly where Manchester United are at.

"The big problem with recruitment is I'm not quite sure who is in charge over the last seven or eight years. Who is behind the scenes spotting the players, making sure they are ahead of the game?"

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits Manchester United are "down to the bare bones" and are lacking in energy as they went winless for the third straight Premier League game, drawing 0-0 with Wolves.
Bruno Fernandes' debut couldn't spark United into life as they failed to break down Wolves at Old Trafford, coming just before the winter break as Solskjaer's side look forward to 16 days off.

It's a welcome break for United, having played 21 games in 69 days, and the United boss insists confidence isn't an issue, but energy is.

"We played so many games over the last two months - the players are down to the bare bones really, their energy levels are down and they need a break," he told Sky Sports.

He also said in his post-match press conference: "I don't think it's confidence. We've just come off a 6-0 win in the cup, we've beaten Man City three days ago, it was energy. Wolves had 10 days to rest to prepare for this. We had two games, on a muddy pitch at Prenton Park, and the emotional energy at City.

"We dominated the game again, against them, 65 per cent possession, and we don't create too many big chances unfortunately, lacking a little bit of that spark, which is natural, we're on the end of a relentless run, 18 games in two months.

"Sometimes you get games that look a bit flat, but we still had 65 per cent possession, so it's not confidence, it's energy as well. So the break will be used to get the energy up, and also the weather is going to be nicer so we'll do more finishing, movement and patterns. We're looking forward to the last few months of the season."

United missed the chance to move to within four points of fourth-placed Chelsea following their 2-2 draw with Leicester, but Solskjaer says he expected this sort of game against Wolves, and admitted they struggled against a side playing so deep.

"It's not about taking advantage here and now, it's when 38 games have gone, you need to be there. Of course there are going to be teams that lose points, we need to capitalise maybe sometimes in games like this, but Wolves want to be there as well.

"We've played them three games in three weeks, and haven't conceded a goal, either, so we are also a hard team to break down. There are too ways there.

"I didn't expect much more than what we did today, I have to be honest, the boys have given absolutely everything, when a team plays so deep like today it became hard."

United struggled to create many clear-cut opportunities, but Solskjaer joked that the groundsmen must have moved the goalposts after Juan Mata, Mason Greenwood and Diogo Dalot all missed the post by inches.

"Someone must have moved the goal, though, the ground staff, I've told them, half a yard to the right where Juan, Mason and Diogo had their shots, that must have happened last night!"

There had been a planned walkout on 68 minutes after fan criticism of the board at United, but the protest was almost non-existent, with Solskjaer again praising the home fans for their support.

Asked whether Ed Woodward's absence was due to the fact the executive vice-chairman didn't want to take away from Bruno Fernandes' debut, Solskjaer said: "No, I don't think so. He had other commitments, so that's alright.

"I must say there has been lots of talk about the fans before the game, and they were unbelievable again, supporting the team until the end, started off well and creating this atmosphere. they just showed again they are the best fans in the world."

"I think Manchester United need to regroup during their winter break. It's been a tough time for them in this last month or so and they need to get away, have a break and get ready for the Chelsea game.

"It's a pivotal game in their season. If Manchester United win that game they're back in business, if they lose they're in trouble in terms of qualifying for the Champions League and they'll maybe start to focus on the Europa League as their only realistic chance of getting into it.

"Not just the players, the coaching staff have taken a real battering over the last couple of months. They're so inconsistent and with that comes a lot of pressure. I sense the first week off will be about rest and recuperation and the second will be really focusing on that Chelsea game."

"Bruno, Bruno, Bruno," came the chant from the Manchester United fans in the stands. The game had not even begun but the mere mention of their new signing's name from the stadium announcer was enough to get the crowd going. All eyes were on Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old had only taken part in one training session with his new team-mates following his £68m arrival from Sporting Lisbon on Thursday. But it is a testament to how much this Manchester United side needs him that he went straight into the starting line-up against Wolves.

In the end, his debut became another game in which Manchester United have failed to find a way to beat a well-organised opponent. There can be no instant fixes to their long-standing issues. But Fernandes did at least provide glimpses of how he might help them in the future.

Poor Ole. Man Utd have spent much more then most sides yet we are told they are "down to their bare bones". Ole should instead just admit how much has been wasted on complete dross like Pogba and Sanchez over the last few years. Bruno won't be anything special either.

Ole is the biggest fraud I have seen. When he arrived, he said he will play attacking football and youth.

His style of play is anything but attacking. He is even more defensive than Mourinho. His one and only plan is to sit back and hit teams on the counter. That is the style of play of teams that are near the bottom of the table, when they play against big sides. Even though he is a Manchester United manager, the loser still has the mentality of Cardiff manager. He plays a formation with two holding midfielders literally every match. Why do you need to be so cowardly and cautious at home against Wolves? A coward manager.

And he has hardly played any youth, despite what he said. Greenwood can barely start a game. He rather start the pace merchant Championship standard Daniel James for him. Brandon Williams can hardly get a game over rubbish and overweight Luke Shaw, and Brandon has done more in the few games than he has played than crappy Luke Shaw has in his entire United career. Angel Gomes, James Garner, Chung can hardly get a game, because Ole wants to persist with rubbish like Perreira and Lingard, and over the hill senior players like Mata and Matic.

I can't wait for the end of the season already. I can hardly watch United games anymore. The sooner this loser Ole is sacked, the better.

Pogba dross? Pogba is the reason Ole has a job right now. Put Pogba under a right attacking system under managers like Klopp and Pep and he would be so much better. He has suffered at United, because he has played under two very negative and defensive minded managers.

That is just an excuse you are making of playing under defensive managers. Pogba is just not good enough, simple.

Odion Ighalo says he was so desperate to join Manchester United he took a pay cut to make the deal happen and did not sleep the night it was agreed.

The 30-year-old Nigeria forward has joined United on loan from Shanghai Shenhua until the end of the season.

The ex-Watford player says his mum cried at the news and there were parties on the street where he grew up.

"A few other clubs had shown interest, I said: 'Please, just pick United, if it's going to be possible,'" he said.

Speaking to the club website, he added: "At 11pm in Shanghai, my agent called me [to say] that United want to do the deal, so I woke up that night and started looking for a translator to go to the directors' room and hit his door.

"'My agent wants to speak to you. United are coming for me, you have to make this happen.'"

Ighalo, his agent and the clubs spent the night negotiating and signing paperwork to get it through before the deadline at 7am Shanghai time.

Meanwhile, other clubs were calling asking Ighalo to sign for them.

"I told my agent 'this is what I want. I want to come here'," added Ighalo.

"He said: 'You're going to get a pay cut to go to United.'

"I said: 'I don't care. Make this deal happen. I want to go to United. I don't care how much is the pay cut, I know that, make it happen.'"

Ighalo says he has been a United fan since he was a child and is pleased to be able to make the his dream of playing for the Old Trafford club a reality.

"I called my mum and she was happy, crying," he said.

"I know many people used to say when they join a team, they say that they dream of playing for that team. Mine was not the case. I supported the team when I was young.

"People that know me, even back in Nigeria, and even when I was playing at Watford, my team-mates knew that I loved Manchester United, I support them."

With Marcus Rashford recovering from a stress fracture and Anthony Martial having scored once in his past five Premier League games, Ighalo hopes his physicality can aid the United forward line.

"I'm very fast, I'm skilful, I'm strong, I have good techniques, so I can find my way in the field of play," he said.

"They have a striker that stays mostly in the middle, but Martial likes to come from the side, even Rashford, so you need someone in the middle that can keep the ball, hold the ball.

"They need a physicality up front to keep the ball, to give and to make some movement, which I believe if everything goes well I can add to the team."

That is just an excuse you are making of playing under defensive managers. Pogba is just not good enough, simple.

He can’t hear you over his World Cup winners medal

That is just an excuse you are making of playing under defensive managers. Pogba is just not good enough, simple.

If you don’t think Pogba is good enough, then your understanding of the game isn’t that great, I am afraid to say. Ability wise, he is better than every single Liverpool midfielder.

That is just an excuse you are making of playing under defensive managers. Pogba is just not good enough, simple.

Exactly. He doesn't even compare to a midfielder like Henderson. Hendo is probably the best midfielder in the Premier League.

If you don’t think Pogba is good enough, then your understanding of the game isn’t that great, I am afraid to say. Ability wise, he is better than every single Liverpool midfielder.

That must be why Man Utd are almost 40 points behind Liverpool coz of the great Pogba! Steven G held Liverpool together for many years on his own, Pogba can never even do that in his dreams. Great players like Gerrard do such things on their own where as thee likes of Pogba are only good at getting inujured. I don't see the ability you are on about and never have. He is just another overrated dud signed by Man Utd.

He can’t hear you over his World Cup winners medal

That is coz he is crying being 40 point behind Liverpool. Most likely Man Utd won't be in the Champions League even next season.

You can tell when someone doesn't watch football, Pogba plays in the same position and system for both club and country, he can only operate in deep MF position because an attacking system and position is to demanding for him, he doesn't have the work ethic nor the energy to press intensively - its not he hasn't been tried there both jose and ole did but he ends up moving back to a deep MF position as he just wants to sit in a small area and hit hollywood passes to impress the kids, why do you think he plays for France in the same position as MU?

Pogba is probably the most talented player at the level of Ronaldo and Messi yet destoyed his career because he has the mind of a 12 year old.

To understand his problem you just need to see his social media posts and realise hes a kid in a mans body.

He doesnt have the attitude to be a professional, Its why Ibra called him a clown in MU's dressing room, Jose called him a virus. Hes wasted his talents and potential - having the worse agent in sports isnt helping his case either.

Watching him a in MUs academy 10 years ago and seeing him like this today, makes me disgusted - what a wasted opportunity.

Mctominay has about 30% of Pogbas talent and potential, yet when ever they have played along side each other, Mctominay has outshined and outclassed Pogba in every department - it tells you alot about him.

Now we have some clueless fans thinking hes the reason why ole has a job. LOLz Jose got sacked because of him and ole is facing a sack because of him again,
We have a clown in charge otherwise we could have sold Pogba for £120m in summer got bruno earlier and another CM and not had this problem, now the dressing room doesnt even want him in there. yet we have some clueless people backing him still.

You can tell much better when people are talking complete mince!

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling will be out "for weeks" because of a hamstring injury, according to manager Pep Guardiola.

The England international, 25, limped out of his club's 2-0 defeat at Tottenham on Sunday.

"It takes weeks, but I don't know how long right now," Guardiola said.

Second-placed City, who are 22 points behind leaders Liverpool, confirmed that scans had revealed damage to Sterling's left hamstring.

Sterling has featured in 23 of City's 25 league matches this season.

"It is a problem being without him but we were without Gundo [Ilkay Gundogan] in the first season and ([Aymeric] Laporte this season. It is what it is," Guardiola added on Friday.

It was better news on City winger Leroy Sane, who is back in training after suffering a serious knee injury in the Community Shield against Liverpool on 4 August.

"He has started to train with us. He needs to recover tempo and confidence," the City manager confirmed. "It needs time. He needs weeks."

Manchester United have accused the Sun newspaper of receiving advanced notice of an intended attack on the house of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

The club has filed a complaint to the press regulator regarding the Sun's coverage of the attack in online and print editions on 29 January.

A club spokesman claimed the alleged presence of a reporter "both encouraged and rewarded the perpetrators".

United believe the paper received prior notice of the attack.

The complaint was made to the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO).

In a statement, Manchester United said: "The Club believes that the Sun newspaper had received advance notice of the intended attack, which included criminal damage and intent to intimidate, and that the journalist was present as it happened.

"The quality of the images accompanying the story indicate that a photographer was also present."

The attack on Mr Woodward's house in Cheshire saw a flare thrown and a group chanting that he was "going to die".

Mr Woodward and his family were not at home at the time.

The BBC has contacted the Sun and IPSO for comment.

Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo will miss the club's training camp in Spain because of fears the coronavirus outbreak could lead to him being refused entry back into the UK.

Nigerian Ighalo, 30, flew to Manchester from China last weekend after signing on loan from Shanghai Shenhua.

"He might have liked to have come with the players and got to know them," manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told MUTV.

"But the risk [of border restrictions tightening] we don't want to take."

Meanwhile, midfielder Scott McTominay and defender Axel Tuanzebe, who have both been out with long-term injuries, will travel to Spain.

United are not due to return until late on Friday before their Premier League game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday, 17 February (20:00 GMT kick-off).

Manchester United have applied for permission to install rail seating for up to 1,500 fans at Old Trafford.

United, one of the major supporters of safe standing, made the request to their local Safety Advisory Group (SAG) in December 2019.

The club proposes to replace some existing seats in the north-east corner of the stadium.

Season ticket holders in that area have been told a safe standing trial is likely to take place later this season.

In minutes published from a recent fans' forum meeting, United said it believed the introduction of rail seating will "enhance spectator safety" in areas of "persistent standing".

It added that the SAG is still reviewing the request.

Safe standing has 'positive impact' on fans' safety
Tottenham's new stadium has "safe seating" which has been "future-proofed" for the potential introduction of standing, while Wolves installed rail seating at their Molineux ground in the summer.

"It is fantastic news that the world's most famous club is seeking to enhance spectator safety in this way," said Jon Darch, of the Safe Standing campaign group.

"Hopefully, they will be very soon be able to not only install rail seats but also to operate any areas of Old Trafford fitted with this form of seating as official standing areas."

It comes just days after a government report found stadium seating areas which incorporate barriers have a "positive impact on spectator safety".

The interim report from the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) found such seating areas "mitigate the risk of crowd collapse".

The government previously stated it "will work with fans and clubs towards introducing safe standing".

Manchester United's new signing Odion Ighalo is training away from the club this week as a precautionary measure following his arrival from China.

United have decided on the policy because of the risk - albeit extremely slight - posed by coronavirus.

They decided against taking the striker on their winter break training camp in Spain because of concerns he may have difficulty getting back into the UK.

Ighalo, 30, is expected to travel with the squad for Monday's game at Chelsea.

BBC Sport understands Ighalo has been training with support from the club using a personalised fitness programme to get him ready for the Chelsea Premier League game.

This has been done at the National Taekwondo Centre, close to the Etihad Stadium and where he has been staying since his arrival in England 11 days ago.

Ighalo joined United on loan for the rest of the season from Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua.

The current medical advice is that travellers coming into the UK from specific countries, including China, quarantine themselves for 14 days.

The death toll in China from the virus is now more than 1,350, with almost 60,000 infections in total.

Numerous sporting events have been cancelled in China and the Far East, including the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix.

We got extremely lucky against Chelsea. Maguire should have been sent off and Zouma’s goal should have stood. Having said that, I’m glad that we took advantage of luck favouring us.

A couple of players, I want to praise. First is Fred. He has been very good for the past two months and it was no different against Chelsea. He finally got a consistent run of games and he has shown his quality. I give Ole no credit for that, because he had no choice but to play Fred after Pogba’s injury and Fred grabbed his chance with both hands. I’m really glad for him.

Another player I want to give a shout out to is Martial, who is an unfair target of criticism because he is not English. Take away Rashford’s penalties, and Martial has got the same number of goals as him this season in less games with a better conversion rate. But Rashford is amazing and Martial is lazy. Get the **** out of here.

I’m sick of this pro English bias. The English media and biased English/British pundits like Neville, Scholes, Rio, Giggs pick on the foreign players, yet never criticise their fellow countrymen, Lingard is rubbish. Shaw is rubbish, Jones is rubbish, James is championship standard, Maguire is average. Where is their criticism? These idiots wanna criticise Pogba, Martial, Fred, yet they don’t criticise their absolute crappy English/British players.

It makes me sick!

Its unbelievable how clueless someone can be

I mean dont even bother to try and mix rashford and martial together, the class, the talent, the committed between them is enormous.

The only bias is when you watch one channel and belive everything else must be different because they dont agree with you on your tainted viewpoint, the french media has been on Martials case the same way as the english media so take your nonsenses elsewhere.

The issue is the same with Pogba, the english media and french are not saying opposite things, they are pretty much on the same page, he gets criticised for acting like a baby and having a terrible agent not his football.

The rest of your claims are even worse, i mean now your against james, give the guy a break, he has been over worked and never came here to start games week in week out, how clueless can you get to speak against him.

Maguire has upped his game in the last couple months and been doing well, but having a weak partner like lindelof doesnt help him.

no one has ever claimed lingard, jones are great, you just want to attack english players for some reason, shaw has improved this season.

As for your nonsense against ole not having credit for fred, then its not even a one player case, you just praise players for playing two games then start bashing them after 2 bad games so it wouldnt be ling before you start attacking fred anyway, but his transformation is all oles doing and thats because indivualy he has made big improvements in players, matic is better than before, brandon has broken through, mctominay, lindelof, rashford, martial, shaw they are all better players then before he came. not a coincidence.

Stop replying to my posts. Your fanboysim ain't gonna rub on me. You call me delusional, yet you still back Ole. You clearly don't understand football.

Martial was at his best under LVG, who was a proper coach unlike your hero.

Rashford, Mctominay are young players so naturally they will get better, more they play.

Shaw is rubbish and has fitness issues. I don't care if he is better. He still isn't good enough.

Lindelof is his 3rd season at United. You would think he would get better, the more time he has spent in the PL. Stop praising Ole for everything.

Brandon only got a chance because fatty Shaw got injured. Otherwise, Ole wouldn't have played him. All this talk that he will play youth is nonsense. He is a liar. Shaw is still preferred over Williams, even though Brandon is already better than him. The likes of Angel Gomes, Chung, Garner etc can barely get a game. Greenword barely starts, even though he is extremely talented. Why can't he play over James?

Speaking of James, I don't care if he has been overplayed, the guy only has pace and that's it. At the highest level, you need more than just pace to do well. I know it's not his fault that he has come up from the Championship and played as much as he has, but the truth is that he simply isn't good enough and will never be good enough.

And lol at you for saying that Rashford is more talented than Martial. Clearly a biased English fan. Rashford is talented, but Martial is more talented and has a better understanding of the game. Just because he doesn't run around like a headless chicken (something all of you English football fans are obsessed with) like Rashford does, it doesn't mean he isn't talented.

Your hero has no tactics, no plan. There doesn't seem to be any structure to the team. The players look like they are improvising. Thankfully, we have talented players like Martial, Rashford, Greenwood, Pogba, Fernandes, Mata, Fred, and which is why we are still able to win games. Not consistently, because for that you need a plan which your hero lacks. Imagine these players under a proper attacking manager like Pochetino, they would be amazing.

Of course, you still think we are in the late 1980s, so Ole deserves another 6-7 years to work things out.

I know what your response will be, but don't bother, as I won't bother to read your clueless posts from now on.

wow you get worse

Martial wasnt at his best under LVG, he was a youngster who was given opportunities and then hyped up, where was he under your hero, mourinho?

Shaw isnt rubbish, maybe hes average but hes not rubbish, but its about playing who you have available and it was your 'proper coach' LVG who bought him

So basically you have an excuse for all players doing well, some are young so they get better, others are getting more experience so they will get better blah blah blah, nice excuses, try and find the real reasons rather then bring lame excuses.

Shaw is still prefered over brandon because brandon cant defend, therefore it makes perfect sense to play shaw against the more competitive teams, chong doesnt play is because hes rubbish, garner is only 18 he hasnt steped up yet, greenward is not a winger and he has played enough for his age unless you want to burn him out too, as for angel im not sure but he was injured.

As for martial vs rashford, then you obviously have no clue about football if your rate martial higher, hes talented but thats it, hes as lazy as you will find a person, he doesn't have the attitude, he sulks around during matches, theres no movement from him. Rashford wasn't as talented as martial when he first came in but he stepped up and went to another level, now the gap between them is huge.
Martial was my favorite player and i was completely against buying sanchez by your hero jose because i wanted martial in the team, but the truth is, his sulking and laziness has hindered his progress and rashford has left him far far behind.

Your last part is just laughable about poch changing this team, yes like mourinho and lvg did wonders with better players too :)))

I didnt say ole desrves 6-7 years but he atleast needs 1 year and signings as well, no manager deserves to chop his squad, not get replacments and given 6 months to turn things around.

ofcourse your just going to come back with more nonsense.

your hatred for a player just because hes english is beyond belife, are you telling me now MU should not be signing madison and Sancho just because there english.

Madison and Sancho are quality, so I want them at United. But I am not like you and most Manchester United fan who rates every young English player highly. You would probably be happy with the signing of the Longstaff brothers, but not me. Your standards have dropped, but not mine. I expect Man United to still be challenging for the biggest honours each season, whereas you are content with United sitting 40 points behind Liverpool.

ohh yes i am very content with MU sitting 40 points of the top if it means we sign young english players :))) where do you get these lines from? your hero Mourinho? sounds like him

Mourinho, my hero? He isn’t my hero. I wanted him sacked and was glad when he got the sack.

Anyway, lets stop arguing please and tell me what would be a successful season for you, considering the position Man United are in right now? Top 4? Europa League triumph or FA Cup triumph?

You seem to want big names only even if it means we keep losing, in the summer you were content with us going after maguire now you think we were stupid for signing him?

We need top 4 and CL football, next season, top 4 would be a turnaround after a poor first half. europa and FA cup are just bonuses.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says it is "touch and go" whether Marcus Rashford will be fit enough to return before the end of the season and warned he may miss Euro 2020.

Rashford should take his time and fully heal himself before returning. He was already playing with an injury and the injury that he has had can ruin careers. He mustn't be rushed back.

A lot of people say we should sign Maddison, but I prefer Grealish. I think he is a better overall player and he will be cheaper. I think we should sign him over Maddison.

Madison is better than Grealish because of his vision and passing, Grealish has the upper hand in dribbling and taking on players, but if it means Madison will cost near £100m and Grealish around £40m - we should take Grealish and use the main funds going after Sancho.

All the Martial haters, sit the **** down. What a goal, what a player!

Bruno has made such a big difference. Under a better manager, he would be even better. I can't wait for the next season, when hopefully Poch would be the manager.

I wonder if the Martial fan boys would turn up today - with him at the front, MU are completely toothless in attack, its amazing how he goes through 5/6 games as an anonymous passenger and turns up with a brilliant goal against a lower tier team and some fans go wild. Martial has not improved since he came here as a wonder kid and right now he wont even get in to some mid table teams.

Its amazing how ole has kept MU in the top 4 race with this set of players. I dont know what MU are doing signing Ogahlo either, its a nice fairytale having a life long fan coming to the squad finally before his career ends but hes so far in one month had 3 one on ones with the keeper and missed all of them. Without Rashford we were always going to be in trouble but Greenwood should be our first choice from now.

Today is also an embarrassment for Pobga, with Gomes breaking his ankle after Pogbas niggle and hes recoved before.

Manchester United have launched an investigation into alleged racist and foul-mouthed abuse aimed at Jesse Lingard following their 3-0 win at Derby County on Thursday night.

Man Utd and the police are looking into the abuse Jesse Lingard received at Derby County.

In a video on social media, people can be heard shouting obscenities, including a racial slur.

Martial does it again, scoring against a top 4 side. This season he has scored in both league games against two of the current top 4 sides City and Chelsea. Some clueless biased United fans were saying last week that he only scores against lower tier sides. Lol :misbah

Anyway, what a brilliant performance! I lost my voice after McTominay scored the 2nd goal. It always feels nice to beat City, a team that weren't even relevant before the Arab oil money. We are now only 3 points behind Chelsea and carrying a 10 game unbeaten run, so the momentum is with us to finish in the top 4.

Even though I want Ole sacked, I must give him credit. He has gone well against the top sides and he deserves respect for that.

When fan boys start praising a player based on a goal keepers mistake it shows how desperate they have become :)))

Martial should have had a hatrick, was poor everytime he got fed in, cant make the excuse about service either, MU dominated the MF for the first 60 mins.

Same clueless people - who still attack Ole, where are the clueless haters now. He comepltly shackled city for a good 70 mins and when they tried to turn the heat up, he iron clad the defense making it impossible for city to score. Completed the double and outsmarted the pep the artist again.
Dont blame the manager if he is given a poor squad, hes shown he can be a great manager given the right players, and is turning around the careers of everyone now, Fred, Shaw, Matic, Mctominay, Rashford.

United have now done over all the top sides...barring Liv.

Bruno is a top signing.
