Jackson has missed 3 sitters in this game

Still 0-0

City have been very flat

Chelsea creating some decent counters but not quite had the final cutting edge yet

Based on that opening 45 mins I reckon Chelsea go through
I fancied Chelsea to win before game. They seem to play a way in which they can always cause issues to City.

Chelsea seem to play well in. Big games and in FA cup

It's just been a repeat of game at eithad. Chelsea being compact, and the countering vs city's high line

Should be atleast 2-0 chelsea

How is this game still 0-0 chances galore being wasted

Chelsea decision making or lack off it final 3rd costing them

Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea - MATCH REPORT

Manchester City bounced back from the disappointment of the Champions League quarter-final exit to Real Madrid as Bernardo Silva's late goal sunk Chelsea at Wembley to seal a place in the FA Cup final.

It was redemption for Silva after his poor spot-kick played a key role in City's loss on penalties to Real.

The Portuguese midfielder turned in the winner at the far post from Kevin de Bruyne's cross six minutes from time.

Chelsea will regret missing a host of chances, nearly all falling to striker Nicolas Jackson, as they suffered another agonising Wembley experience after the extra-time defeat on penalties against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

And Chelsea also feel they were victims of an injustice as they were infuriated that they were not awarded a second-half penalty when Cole Palmer's free-kick struck Jack Grealish's hand in the wall, only for the video assistant referee to rule no offence had taken place.

City remain on course for another double of Premier League and FA Cup and will now face either arch-rivals Manchester United or Championship side Coventry City in the final.

If Chelsea had a half decent striker they would have won that game, all the big chances fell to Jackson

Coventry City 3-0 down after 70 mins, force extra time 🤣🤭

Penalties, finishes 3-3, late Coventry goal ruled offside, United get away with one there.

WWE script to get United in the finals there for the FA Cup derby.

Gutted for Coventry, they fully deserved to win that.

Manchester United scraped into the FA Cup final on penalties despite throwing away a three-goal lead against Championship side Coventry in an epic semi-final at Wembley.

In a very modern-day thriller, United came out on top in a penalty shootout they were losing at one stage.

A quite remarkable contest only got that far because Victor Torp's effort in injury time in extra time was ruled out for offside by video assistant referee Peter Bankes.

But after Bradley Collins saved United's first kick, from Casemiro, Andre Onana denied Callum O'Hare, then unsettled Ben Sheaf with some verbal jousting - and the Coventry captain missed - allowing Rasmus Hojlund to win it.

That goal by Coventry seemed onside to me. It is the corrupt FA that wanted an all Manchester final here.

Manchester United suffer FA Cup final setback as Luke Shaw injury return delayed

Manchester United are set to be without Luke Shaw for the FA Cup final.

Erik ten Hag has confirmed the extent of the recent setback suffered by the left-back in his recovery from a muscle injury which has kept him out since mid-February.

“Luke is more complicated in this moment,” Ten Hag told reporters on Thursday.

“Let's say there’s less of a chance he will make it but still a very small chance.

“He had a setback, now we have to find out how far it is.”

It has been a disappointing season for Shaw, 28, who has managed just 15 appearances amid a couple of lengthy lay-offs, which will include Sunday’s final game of the Premier League season at Brighton.

United then head to Wembley on Saturday, May 26, for a rematch of last year’s FA Cup final with City.

Ten Hag has endured a hefty injury list for much of the season, but at least recovered Lisandro Martinez, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford to his squad for the midweek win over Newcastle.

Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire are two others racing to be fit for Wembley and the England centre-back was rated as having a “fair chance” by his manager on Thursday. Raphael Varane is pushing to make his farewell appearance after also spending weeks on the sidelines.

Maguire and Shaw will be desperate to prove their fitness ahead of Gareth Southgate naming his preliminary England squad for Euro 2024 on Tuesday.

Will he be missed against rivals Manchester City?

For those of us over 40 years old, the annual FA Cup Final was the biggest game of the year - bigger than a World Cup Final or Champions League Final.

Many more British people remember Roger Osborne winning the 1978 FA Cup Final than Mario Kempes winning the World Cup six weeks later.

A huge part of the ritual is the performance of the funereal hymn “Abide With Me” twenty minutes before kickoff, when we remember the football greats who have left us in the last twelve months.

This year that means Trevor Francis and Terry Venables, but also England’s greatest ever footballer, Sir Bobby Charlton. And I say that as a lifelong City fan!

Poll added guys.

The exciting FA Cup final is today! Who’s everyone rooting for?

Man city to win IMO. Last game of Eric ten as Man U's manager.

I need City to win because it would mean we get Europa Conference League whereas a Man U win means no European football next season for us

Hag doesn’t deserve a proper send off, and I want to see Newcastle in the conference league. Hope City can do something special.

City suffered FA Cup final disappointment as Pep Guardiola’s side slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Wembley to Manchester United.
First-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo proved the difference on what was a frustrating afternoon in the capital.

City dominated the second half with Erling Haaland hitting the bar and Kyle Walker denied by a stunning save from Andre Onana.

Substitute Jeremy Doku, who made a superb impact, then deservedly struck six minutes from time to set up a grandstand finish.

But United held on to claim the prize and deny Pep Guardiola’s men what would have been an historic back-to-back Double.

WHAT HAPPENED

City came into the game seeking to make more history, United to try and secure a tangible reward to a disappointing season.

If anything, the pre-match atmosphere and build up was even more loud and passionate than 12 months ago as these two age old rivals locked horns on the biggest stage once again.

There may have been no 12 second goal drama this time around, unlike Ilkay Gundogan’s stunning opener in 2023, but just as 12 months ago there was a frantic action-packed start.

First Kyle Walker needed to be aware to Erling Haaland was sent flying in the box through a challenge by Lisandro Martinez but referee Andrew Madley adjudged no foul with VAR upholding that view.

It was a crackling start with both sides seeking to land an early psychological blow.

At the other end, City keeper Stefan Ortega Moreno needed to be alert to firmly grasp a powerful Alejandro Garnacho shot from just outside the box.

There was then a scare in the City box on 21 minutes as Stones made a vital block on Scott McTominay as he sought to capitalise on a loose pass before Mateo Kovacic completed the rescue mission as he cleared from Fernandes just in the nick of time.

The Croatian popped up almost immediately at the opposite end of the field drinking in an inviting ball from the right byline into the heart of the United box only for Kobbie Mainoo to clear.

But it was United who made the opening breakthrough on the half hour through Garnacho after a mix up between Josko Gvardiol and Ortega Moreno.

As United’s Argentine teenager chased down a long pass, Gvardiol attempted to head back but with Ortega Moreno coming out to the edge of his box, the ball instead popped up invitingly for Garnacho to fire into an unguarded net.

United then had the ball in the net again seven minutes later as Rashford met Garnacho’s cross but the flag had gone up for offside.

However, United did strike again to double their lead a minute later through the impressive Mainoo.

A long raking Rashford ball picked out the advancing Garnacho, on the right flank, he cut the ball back to Fernandes who delivered a delicate, disguised pass to the waiting Mainoo who side footed past Ortega Moreno from 12 yards.

City sought to summon up an immediate response after the restart with Manuel Akanji and Jeremy Doku both brought on in place of Nathan Ake and Mateo Kovacic.

There was a notable step up in City’s urgency and intensity and a superb Doku through ball on 54 minutes was inches away from finding the advancing Foden as he powered into the box.

A minute later City came even closer, more Doku brilliance picking out Erling Haaland in the middle of box.

The striker let fly with the sweetest of strikes but saw the effort cannon back off the underside of the bar.

City the made another switch, Julian Alvarez being ushered on in place of Kevin De Bruyne just shy of the hour.

The pressure was now all from City and it needed a stupendous save from Andre Onana to deny Kyle Walker when the skipper let fly from 25 yards.

Alvarez then blazed over from 18 yards after another inviting opportunity opened up inside the United box.

If anything, the Argentine then spurned an even better chance on 65 minutes as a superb Phil Foden assist put him clear in the box only for the striker to direct his effort wide of the target.

United gave a reminder of their threat with Garnacho forcing Ortega Moreno into another low block to deny his breakaway shot.

But one felt a goal had to come and it finally arrived on 87 minutes from that man Doku.

He wrestled his way free after cutting in from the edge of the box before letting fly and beating Onana at the near post.

It set up a grandstand finish with seven added minutes of time to play.

But despite knocking on the door we couldn’t find a way through.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, speaking to BBC TV: "It was the last chance to get something positive from the season. We were here last season and we weren't good enough and we had to see them go up and get the trophy.

"They have great quality, great players, a great manager. We had to sacrifice and suffer but we did great things. I try my best to help the team.

"Kobbie Mainoo is really good, such a quality player and you can see the composure he had with the finish. He came through the Academy and once more on the biggest stage in the world he showed it again. Congratulations to everyone, the staff, the players and all the fans, they have given us a big push - finally we have something to celebrate.

"It is crucial for everyone. We know the manager is under so much scrutiny, he deserves this, also everyone in the backroom staff and the players, we all deserve this."

Nobody gave us a chance but against all odds, we beat the 115 charges cheats. That is the spirit of Manchester United. I literally lost my voice at full time.

Next season, we have to do better in the league, no doubt about it, but I will stick with Ten Hag.

Looks no Europe for newcastle at moment
Unfortunately not, had a feeling this would happen especially as all the talk was that Man U have no chance of winning, can never give such absolutes when it comes to football

Whilst I'm disappointed as Europa Conference would give us benefits (boost coefficient, more squad rotation practice, Howe gain more experience of playing twice a week) I'm also looking forward to seeing how we do with mostly playing just 1 game each week

As long as we don't have the same injury situation then I'm quietly confident we can have a good season

With one game a week and if you don't get major injuries, their should be no excuse not to take both cups seriously and get back in top 4.
