Mauricio Pochettino breaks Chelsea record with his starting XI vs Crystal Palace
The Blues play the Eagles at Stamford Bridge with both sides desperately needing a win following poor runs of form that have left the London clubs in the bottom half of the table.
Pochettino is potentially fighting to keep his job but his task has been made trickier thanks to a number of injuries and suspensions that have ruled out the likes of Reece James, Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling.
There are five changes from the Christmas Eve loss at Wolves with Thiago Silva, Armando Broja, Lesley Ugochukwu, Palmer and Sterling dropping out.
Taking their place are Moises Caicedo, Benoit Badiashile, Mykhailo Mudryk, Ian Maatsen and, most notably, Christopher Nkunku who makes his first start for the club.
20-year-old Malo Gusto is the youngest member of the XI, while 26-year-old Nkunku is the oldest.
I think we need to react and increase our level of concentration. We cannot afford to lose this type of game. We trust the players on the pitch and hope we can have a good game.
‘We need to be more clinical and need to be so strong. Today’s a great opportunity to show we can react"
John Terry tipped one Chelsea academy star for a bright future after their league debut on Wednesday night.
Alfie Gilchrist came off the bench in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge and made an immediate impression.
Noni Madueke scored an 89th minute penalty after Michael Olise had cancelled out Mykhailo Mudryk’s opener.
Gilchrist was introduced by Mauricio Pochettino and it proved to be a popular decision among Chelsea fans.
One particular moment that featured the 20-year-old went viral on social media.
The defender showed zero fear as he blocked the ball with his head from close range.
“I think we spoke about the young players going on loan and I think Alfie's next step is to go on loan next season and then you should see how he does.
“I'm expecting big things from Alf, expecting him to play hopefully a game or two as the season goes on.”
Gilchrist has been with Chelsea since the Under-11 level and penned his first professional deal in November 2020
Chelsea Football Club can confirm striker Sam Kerr has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during a warm weather training camp in Morocco.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says he is "worried" about Christopher Nkunku's latest setback.
The forward has made just one Premier League start since joining the club.
A knee injury sustained in pre-season kept Nkunku out for three months, and he missed Chelsea's past two matches with a hip injury.
"We're disappointed and a little bit worried because we want him involved again as soon as possible," said Pochettino.
"We are still assessing him, we don't know what is going to happen.
"It's complicated with Christopher. It's now between eight and 10 days since he could train.
"He was so close to feeling comfortable again, he started the game against Crystal Palace."
The France international scored on his Premier League debut in the 2-1 defeat to Wolves on 24 December and he was handed his full debut three days later against Crystal Palace.
But a hip injury sustained in training ruled Nkunku out of the 4-0 FA Cup win against Preston last weekend and the League Cup semi-final defeat to Middlesbrough on Tuesday.
Though Nkunku has been ruled out of Saturday's visit of Fulham to Stamford Bridge, Pochettino is hopeful that French centre-back Benoit Badiashile and long-term absentee Ben Chilwell can return to the matchday squad.
"The good news is having players like [Trevoh] Chalobah, Chilwell, Badiashile and [Carney] Chukwuemeka so close to being involved again and help the team to perform," said Pochettino.
Pochettino seeks 'passport' to Wembley to kickstart Chelsea career
Chelsea are languishing in ninth in the Premier League despite backing Pochettino heavily in his first transfer window in charge.
But there has been some cause for optimism in recent weeks as Pochettino's men have put a miserable run of home form behind them to win six games in a row at Stamford Bridge.
Veteran defender Thiago Silva had to play peacemaker as a section of the travelling Chelsea support turned against Pochettino and his players when they lost to second-tier Middlesbrough two weeks ago.
Pochettino, though, is hoping the fans can roar his side on to a comeback to reach the club's first major final since Todd Boehly's consortium took charge of the club in May 2022.
"It's a passport to go to a final, to visit Wembley. It's a really important game for us and we need to show it's important for the club, for us, for everyone," said Pochettino at his pre-match press conference on Monday.
"We want to be in the final but first we need to beat a very good team, Middlesbrough, that in the first leg we couldn't beat.
"Of course, it's going to be tough, but we are confident that we can have a very good game against Middlesbrough in front of our fans. We need to take advantage of playing at Stamford Bridge with all the energy that will translate from our fans."
A series of injuries to key players has played its part in a difficult start to life at Chelsea for Pochettino.
Midfielder Cesare Casadei and forward Diego Moreira have been recalled from loan spells at Leicester and Lyon respectively to bolster the squad.
One of Chelsea's big summer signings Christopher Nkunku has been restricted to just one start for the club as the Frenchman picked up a hip injury shortly after returning from knee surgery.
Pochettino confirmed that Nkunku will again be absent for the visit of the Championship side.
"As can happen after a long-term injury, finding the balance is the most difficult thing," said Pochettino.
"He suffered a little thing in his hip – a problem there – and is recovering. It's not a big issue but it's delayed the possibility of him being available for the group."
Mauricio Pochettino issued a rallying cry to the Chelsea support as his side aim to turn around a 1-0 first leg deficit against Middlesbrough to reach the League Cup final on Tuesday.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino said he has received "good texts" from the club's owners amid pressure on him following back-to-back defeats.
The Blues dropped to 11th in the Premier League on Sunday after a 4-2 home loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Chelsea have spent more than £1bn on transfers since Todd Boehly's takeover in May 2022 and have won just nine Premier League games this season.
"I think we are all together in this and that's important," Pochettino said.
"I received very good texts from [the owners]," he added. "Of course I am in contact with them and the sporting director every day."
Pressure has grown on Chelsea's Argentine manager, whose side lost 4-1 to Liverpool four days before the Wolves defeat.
They are 15 points shy of the Premier League's top four and five points off London rivals West Ham United in seventh.
Despite heavy investment in the club since Boehly purchased Chelsea from Roman Abramovich, the Blues recorded their lowest finish in the 20-team Premier League era last term, coming 12th.

'The fans need to trust us'
Chelsea 2-4 Wolves: Mauricio Pochettino should be doing better says Danny Murphy
After boos from the Stamford Bridge crowd at the weekend, Pochettino has called for support from the Blues' fan base.
"The fans need to trust in us," he said. "We need to provide the calm for the players to feel free to play.
"We need to create a good connection with the fans. The fans need to understand when they go to Stamford Bridge it's a different Chelsea, a different project, a different everything. It's the responsibility of the players and the staff to create a connection, something in between they appreciate.
"The fans need from us to see that we really care about the club. I promise you and the fans that the players want to perform and win games. The players suffer when they are not performing. They are desperate to receive the love from the fans but at the same time they understand the situation. If you are not performing it's normal the fans should criticise us. We need to be together."
Chelsea head to Aston Villa on Wednesday for an FA Cup fourth round replay at Villa Park (20:00 GMT). Later this month, they face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
'If you wait any longer, it will be too late'
Pochettino also defended his relationship with experienced centre-back Thiago Silva, 39, after a tweet from the Brazilian's wife which suggested Chelsea needed to make a change imminently.
During the closing minutes of the defeat by Wolves, Belle Silva tweeted: "It's time to change. If you wait any longer it will be too late."
Pochettino said he had spoken to the 2021 Champions League winner since his wife's comment.
"He came today to talk with me. The important thing is he came and wanted to talk with me," Pochettino added.
"We are very strong in the way we want to operate. We talked and I don't want to divulge, it was private. It [my relationship with Silva] is very good."
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino hailed Conor Gallagher as a "priceless" player after his two goals inspired the Blues to victory at Crystal Palace.
Gallagher cancelled out Jefferson Lerma's opener and scored again in the 91st minute before Enzo Fernandez got a late third to seal a 3-1 win.
The 24-year-old has been linked with moves away from the club.
"I think he is a player with a great commitment to the team," said the Chelsea manager.
"He is always trying to compensate in every situation, in offensive and defensive situations. It's priceless to have a player like him."
Gallagher, who is reportedly valued at £50m, is contracted to Chelsea until the end of next season but his long-term future remains uncertain, with Tottenham suggested as a possible destination in the summer.
But Pochettino believes Gallagher is firmly committed to remaining at the club he has been at since he was eight.
"He has always told me it is to stay in Chelsea," Pochettino added.
"He still has one year more on his contract. It's a matter with him and the club."
Antonio Conte has revealed he found Tottenham's celebrations over their Champions League qualification in his first season in charge 'really strange'.
Following his Serie A title win at Inter Milan, Conte joined Spurs in 2021 despite previously managing their bitter London rivals Chelsea.

He arrived as their replacement for Nuno Espirito Santo, who left the club ninth in the Premier League after a fifth defeat in seven matches.
Conte proved to be a crucial appointment at Spurs as they finished fourth in the Premier League, beating arch-rivals Arsenal to seal a return to Champions League football.
However, having won five league titles prior to his move to Spurs, the Italian warned his staff that their expectations needed to be higher, admitting he was confused by their celebrations despite not actually winning anything.
Conte said: “For me, to celebrate fourth place and a place in the Champions League was really strange.
Pochettino: "We are Chelsea and we need to compete with the same tools. If they are better, well done... but [the referee] must be fair in every decision".
"The pressure is about not delivering the job for Klopp; no, the pressure is not to be part of the hype...".
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says his side "need to feel the pain" after losing the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool at Wembley.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk scored the winning goal for the Reds with just two minutes of extra time left.
"They need to feel the pain," Pochettino said.
"We played for a trophy we didn't get. Now it's the same, what can you tell me to feel better? Nothing."
Chelsea will feel they missed a big opportunity to lift silverware against a Liverpool side missing injured players including Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, Alisson Becker and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Blues had a number of clear-cut chances during the game with Cole Palmer denied by an excellent Caoimhin Kelleher stop before Conor Gallagher hit the post and then had a good opportunity also saved by Kelleher.
As the game neared the closing stages of normal time, Chelsea somehow failed to take the lead in a scramble in the Liverpool box with Christopher Nkunku, Gallagher and Malo Gusto all involved.
They have now lost six successive Wembley finals - three against Liverpool - and Pochettino is still searching for his first trophy in England.
"We are very competitive and now we need to move forward," the Chelsea boss added. "They [the players] need to feel the pain like us.
"They need to realise that we need to work more, do better things. We need to improve and compete in this level against a side that in the last five, six, seven years has competed for big things.
"It's about arriving here first and then feel what it means to play for a big trophy. I remember after three, four years they lost the Champions League [final], they lost the Europa League [final].
"They keep believing in the project and in the next season [got] stronger until they got what they wanted.
"That is a good example, Liverpool. We want to challenge a team like Liverpool. [We should not be] frustrated today because we didn't get the trophy. We need to keep believing as that is the most important thing."
Chelsea finished the 90 minutes stronger than Liverpool but seemed to sit back during extra time. In his post-match news conference Pochettino said: "I think the team started to feel that penalties might be good for us".
Gary Neville, speaking on the Sky Sports coverage of the match, said Chelsea "bottled" their chance to win a trophy as Liverpool were without so many key players and had introduced a number of academy graduates from the bench.
Pochettino added: "I think if you compare the age of the two groups it's similar. I have a good relationship with Gary. I don't know how I can take this opinion but I respect his opinion.
"We made a few changes like Gallagher and Chilwell in extra time. It is true we didn't keep the energy how we finished the second half.
"I don't know how you can describe this situation. I feel proud of the players. I think they made a big effort.
"We are a young team and nothing to compare with Liverpool because they finish with also a few young players. It is impossible to compare.
"He [Neville] knows that the dynamics are completely different. I think it is not fair to talk in this way. We are going to keep believing in this project and see what we can do in the future."
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says Leeds United will be "tough" opponents in the FA Cup but his players are motivated to deliver a response after losing Carabao Cup final to Liverpool.
The Blues welcome their Championship opposition to Stamford Bridge in the fifth round on Wednesday, knowing Leeds have won their past eight games and are on track to bounce back immediately to the Premier League.
Nevertheless, Chelsea will still be favourites, despite the psychological bruising of Sunday's defeat at Wembley.
"Always the pressure is to win and to go through," Pochettino said. "To arrive to the first final of the season in England is a massive achievement but after you don't get the title it's tough.
"Now is a game that is going to be tough. We need to be strong, with good energy and the players want to show that we are in the way that is going to be good for the club.
"I'm happy because they reacted well and they are in a very positive moment."
Former Tottenham and Paris St-Germain boss Pochettino took over at Chelsea last summer
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has insisted he would "never" quit his job amid the club's struggles this season.
He was booed by some Blues fans, who also called for him to leave, during last weekend's draw at Brentford.
Chelsea have earned five points from the last 15 and go into Monday's game against Newcastle United in 11th place.
"The fans are not going to love any more another coach at Chelsea. I knew it was going to be tough [and] we need time and belief," he said.
"If you compare with the past, when you are in a different project, people need to understand. I've tried to explain. I talk, I move my mouth, but you don't hear.
"We understand the frustration and the reception. We need to try to improve the way we play and try to change this feeling. We need our fans and we hope that on Monday the fans will be great and behind us for 90 minutes to win the game."
Pochettino also defended Chelsea's defeat by a depleted Liverpool in last months Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
"It's true that [the players] are young, but we like to help them. We like to talk, to train, to support. We are supporting them," he said.
"The fans don't know. The players are so young, playing at Wembley in a final. Maybe they didn't sleep the night before.
"Sometimes, to analyse with different parameters and the way that you assess is completely unfair.
"Today it is a different Chelsea. If you are going to judge us, comparing the past of Chelsea, for sure no-one is going to win. No-one is going to succeed. No-one is going to be nice with you."
Chelsea have spent more than £1bn on transfers since Todd Boehly's takeover in May 2022.
They finished 12th last season when Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard spent spells in charge of the team before Pochettino took over in the summer.
Chelsea have struggled for consistency this season, having won 10 and lost 10 games of their 26 in the top flight this season.
Asked if he would consider walking away, Pochettino replied: "No. Why? Never."
Love seeing Chelsea in complete disarray not knowing what to do next. They wouldn't know how to get out of the long contracts they had given to the likes of Caicedo and Lavia who they only signed to prevent us from doing so. I hope these boy's are now seeing and even more regretting their decisions. Jurgen told Chelsea to do one when they came asking for the availability of Darin Nunez. This club has no planning whatsoever other then sign any player that moves With an already burgeoning squad they spent £1 billion on Chelsea can't possibility sign many players in the summer. They won't get any buyers for their players being paid millions of £££ on seven year contracts that they want to sell. It is said that they want to sell up to 15 players this summer that could include the overrated Caicedo. We signed gem's like Endo and Mac Callister for £ 100 million or so less with both doing brilliant jobs for us. Money doesn't give you brains! Michael Edwards also told Chelsea where to go!
FEELING BLUE Chelsea hit by injury crisis with NINE stars out as fuming fans blast ‘this is getting out of hand’
The Blues now have nine first-team players on the treatment table and unavailable for Saturday's clash against Burnley.
Some are long-term injury absentees like Reece James and Wesley Fofana.
But forward Christopher Nkunku has suffered another injury setback in what has been an injury-plagued debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.
Another summer arrival Romeo Lavia has also been hit with fitness problems throughout the season and has made just one appearance for the club.
The midfielder has now been ruled out for the rest of the season after experiencing a setback in his bid to overcome a thigh issue he picked up in December.
Prior to that an ankle injury had kept him sidelined since the beginning of the season.
Pochettino now has fresh concerns as Trevoh Chalobah has now joined the nine-star injury list - having just broken into the side.
Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and Carney Chukwuemeka were also close to a return to the team after lengthy injury lay-offs but have picked up fresh injuries.
They have been consigned to the treatment room along with Chelsea captain Reece James.

Chelsea chief Todd Boehly 'to be removed as chairman' as problems mount at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea are reportedly set to replace Todd Boehly as their chairman in 2027. The American co-owner has struggled to win over the support of the Blues’ fanbase since his arrival, and matters appear to be going from bad to worse for him at Stamford Bridge.
According to the Daily Mail, an agreement has been reached which will see chairmanship passed between the co-owners of the club every five years. The ‘extraordinary’ plan is set to be enacted at the end of the 2026/27 when Boehly is replaced as chairman.
The co-owners of the club feel that the 50-year-old was given the opportunity to have ‘gone first’, despite having a minority stake in the club. Boehly has an equal split of a 38.5 percent stake in with the Blues with Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter.
The remaining 61.5 percent is owner by Clearlake Capital, managed by Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano. It remains to be seen whether the private equity firm decide to take up the chairmanship mantle from Boehly in 2027.
The first appointment in the role is said to have been connected to the initial terms of the acquisition of the club in 2022 when the new ownership took control, which stated that the American owners group would pay any ‘first losses in the event of a realisation or a sale’.
It remains to be seen whether Eghbali or Feliciano decide to take the chairman role from Boehly when the vacancy arrives or whether the pair opt to bring in a fresh pair of hands and appoint a ‘third-party’ to take control for a five year spell. A decision has not been made on the matter yet, though there is an insistence that there will be a new chairman at that time.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says it is important that the club's fans and players "move on" after Raheem Sterling was booed by supporters.
Sterling faced criticism from sections of the Stamford Bridge crowd during Chelsea's 4-2 win over Leicester City in the recent FA Cup quarter-final.
Pochettino was jeered for his decision to substitute Mykhailo Mudryk instead of Sterling in the 78th minute.
"We now need to move on. It will help if we do," said Pochettino.
"What we cannot do is create bigger things from this now because we know fans love our players and I know they will support him and the rest of the team.
"Raheem is a spirited player and he understands it all."
Pochettino's Chelsea will have home advantage against lowly Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday, when supporters will expect another victory.
Sterling missed a first-half penalty against Leicester and blazed a free-kick well over the crossbar in the second half, which prompted jeers among the home crowd.
Before the match, Chelsea Supporters' Trust raised "significant concerns" about the club's future in a lengthy letter to co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.
It said there was growing concern that Chelsea are becoming "a 'laughing stock', both on and off the pitch".
"We need to be careful in the way we talk and give our opinions because there needs to be a strong relationship between everyone," said Pochettino.
"I just want our players to play really well. I was also suffering the anger of the fans and their disappointment; in fact, the whole team suffered in this situation."
MAURICIO POCHETTINO is adamant Chelsea will win the Premier League in the near future because his project is on track
Pochettino, 52, put together a very young side after being appointed as the Blues' manager in the summer by attracting some of the world's most promising talents.
The investment hasn't paid off this season as the West Londoners are languishing in 11th place in the Premier League table with their own fans booing the Argentinean tactician and owner Todd Boehly.
However, Poch has full faith in the process, which has seen Chelsea making it to the Carabao Cup Final and the FA Cup semi-finals.
That is why the ex-Tottenham boss insists his team has what it takes to return to the top either with him or a different manager.
However, the former Paris Saint-Germain head coach is adamant Chelsea need to show more patience and trust to let the young players grow.
Pochettino said: "When we came here we knew the challenge would be to help — not just one or two [young players] — by maybe ten.
"If we were not calm and didn’t analyse the project in the way we do, maybe today you would be talking to different coaches here.
"We understood very well what it means to change the direction of the club.
"Now it is completely different. We want the best for the club, for the owners, for the players and for our fans.
"Of course, we want to win the Premier League. Yes, one day we will. But if not, for sure another coaching staff will win it because this process needs to happen.
"And it needs to happen in the best way — in the way that it is happening. Because if not, it will be impossible for the young players to grow.
"All the data today puts us in the table in the top four. But for different reasons, we are not there.
"In which areas do we need to improve? In small details that you can get with experience and time and playing together.
"It is easy to find data and numbers when you want to kill someone. But also, when the data is good and reflects the team is doing well, we must trust in the process."

Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf says owners have ‘destroyed the club’ after ‘terrible’ draw with ten-man Burnley
Frank Leboeuf thrust his anger towards the Chelsea ownership after his former side failed to beat ten-man Burnley at home.
The Blues had to settle for a 2-2 draw against a relegation-threatened Clarets side that had a one-man disadvantage for half the match.
Boos rang out at Stamford Bridge at the end of a result that leaves Chelsea 11th in the Premier League and scrambling for Europe.
Mauricio Pochettino's side have endured poor form ever since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital completed their takeover in 2022.
And former Chelsea star Leboeuf couldn't contain his anger against the ownership as he and fellow fans struggle to see positives.
"I'm sorry, the people on the board destroyed that club," he said in a furious rant on ESPN. "That's what you have to face and how are you going to rebuild that?
"I don't know, it's going to take a long time but you have to change your way of thinking that.
"Stop the training business, buy some experienced players in the summer market otherwise you're going to face the same problems next season."
Although he complained about a lack of experience in the side, Leboeuf didn't shy away from criticising the players considering they played against ten men for much of the game.
"I'm fed up in fact, I'm fed up because you believe that something's going to happen. You say, 'Ok, the season is already over but you're going to play against Burnley, they play 11 against ten so, they're going to win.'
"And they disappear, nothing happens. You are 1-0 [up] at half-time, you come back and after three minutes you concede a goal, then you try to play a little bit, you score another goal.
"You say, 'Ok, well that's fine,' and then after it's terrible and as you showed, they should have lost that game 11 against ten. 'Chelsea Football Club' against, all due respect, Burnley, that's the end of it, for me that's the end of it.
"I want to congratulate the fans to be able to still go to Stamford Bridge to watch that, I mean come on. That's not fair for the fans, that's not fair for the history of Chelsea Football Club and for the former player that I am.
"And some others who are watching that are so appalled about the situation. It's unfair to all those people and I don't know what they're doing there. Players, as I've talked before, they have no stamina, nothing in their heart, nothing in their brain, don't know what to do.
"You play 11 against ten, you should thrash that team that you play against, and you let them come back and you almost lose that game? Come on, that's unprofessional, that's unfair again to those people who love that club."
Chelsea face a tough test against Manchester United on Thursday and know they have to win to keep any hope of qualifying for Europe alive.
Fixtures against Arsenal and Tottenham are also still to come and they face Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals too.

Chelsea top Premier League spending on agent fees in past year
Chelsea spent 75.14 million pounds ($93.39 million) on intermediary and agents' fees in the past year, almost a fifth of the total paid by Premier League clubs, according to a report published by England's Football Association (FA).
In all, the FA said Premier League clubs spent 409.5 million pounds on intermediary and agents' fees for the 12 months from period Feb. 1, 2023.
Manchester City were the second-highest spenders in the top flight at 60.62 million pounds while Manchester United (34m), Liverpool (31.5m) and Arsenal (24.76m) rounded out the top five.
But Chelsea's spend on agent fees alone was more than most top-flight clubs paid on transfers.
It also eclipsed the combined total of agent fees paid by second-tier Championship clubs (61.34 million pounds).
The transactions involve new signings plus outgoing players or squad members who had their contracts updated.
After Chelsea were taken over by American Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, they bet big on young players signing long-term contracts, spending more than $1 billion in transfer fees since they bought the club in May 2022.
However, Chelsea have struggled to reach the lofty heights they did under former owner Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, with the London side finishing 12th last season while standing a lowly ninth in the current campaign.
Chelsea make remarkable decision on contracts of £195million duo Enzo Fernandez and Mykhaylo Mudryk
Chelsea have exercised options to extend Enzo Fernandez and Mykhaylo Mudryk's contracts.
Fernandez arrived in a £106.8million transfer from Benfica in the January transfer window of 2023. He was initially handed eight-and-a-half year contract, similar to Mudryk, who penned a seven year deal.
The Ukrainian winger cost £88.5m as the Blues rushed to beat Arsenal to sign the then Shakhtar Donetsk star. Despite that is has been a miserable season for Chelsea, with Fernandez and Mudryk both having been below par.
Mudryk has scored just six goals and notched only two assists in all competitions. Fernandez meanwhile has been part of a midfield that has frequently struggled over the course of the campaign.
Even so, FA documents released as part of the FA's annual agent payments report show the duo have been handed contract extensions. The FA's data shows Chelsea made payments to the duo's representatives as part of updated contract negotiations.
The report showed how the Blues paid a record £75.1m on agent’s fees over the 12-month period to February 2024. But Pochettino has previously hinted that both Mudryk and Fernandez are part of his long-term plans.
"He's a fantastic guy and he’s such a nice person. He’s very authentic and genuine. One thing I can tell you, he’s very honest and very trustworthy and a very genuine and spontaneous guy," he said of Mudryk in December. "I trust in him as a person, of course. And then as a player he knows he needs to keep improving. He’s still young and he is going to improve, because he has the quality. He’s a player that in his evolution is doing really well.
"We are so happy. For sure with time he’s going to be a very important player. He’s already an important player but he’s going to improve a lot because the potential is massive."
Pochettino also hailed Fernandez after he scored against Aston Villa in February. Fernandez had hailed up his shirt in an apparent response to criticism he had received, with Pochettino fully backing the Argentine.
He said: "Today, Enzo showed why he’s here and he showed his quality. But we didn’t have any doubts about him, or about [Moises] Caicedo or about different players, young players that arrived here with expectation to win titles and to score with every single touch!
"He is a world champion player. When he signed one year ago, he arrived after nearly two years with no holidays, no rest, with the pressure, still young, different environment, different language, different culture. I really believe in the player."
Chelsea have endured a miserable season, with the stars they spent more than £1billion on failing to deliver the performances to match their massive transfer fees and Mauricio Pochettino under pressure.
That is what former Arsenal striker Alan Smith said of Chelsea's Cole Palmer on Sky Sports after the midfielder struck four goals in his side's 6-0 thrashing over Everton.
Palmer was simply sensational, netting a hat-trick inside 29 minutes and adding his 20th Premier League goal of the season in the second half to move him level with Erling Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot.
It is all the more remarkable considering before Palmer moved from Manchester City to Chelsea this summer the 21-year-old had never scored a league goal.
Fast forward seven months and the England star could be on course to finish as the division's top scorer.
Back in November Palmer told BBC Sport he moved from his boyhood club to west London in search of "regular game time".
He made 25 appearances for Manchester City last season, of which just seven were starts. In contrast this campaign he has already managed 25 goals, coming from an impressive 43 matches.
The £42m switch has seemingly paid off for both Palmer and his employers. He is a lynchpin for Mauricio Pochettino's side and has scored the most league goals in a season for the Blues since Diego Costa also hit 20 in 2016-17.
Chelsea still have seven league matches remaining.
"You expect him to perform well but he's performing fantastic and doing amazing for the team," Chelsea boss Pochettino told BBC Match of the Day. "I'm happy for him scoring four goals."
Chelsea penalty row: Mauricio Pochettino 'can't accept' argument before Cole Palmer strike
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino says he was "so upset" about the dispute over who would take the penalty in their 6-0 win over Everton and has warned his players not to do it again.
Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke argued over who would take a spot-kick, before Cole Palmer - Chelsea's regular taker - scored his fourth goal.
"I can't accept this kind of behaviour," said Pochettino.
"I told them it's the last time I want to see this kind of behaviour."
He added: "It is impossible to have this type of behaviour after this performance. If we want to be a great team, we need to change and think in a collective way."
Palmer scored the 64th-minute penalty for the Blues - his ninth successful spot-kick of the season -following a bizarre 60-second confrontation involving five players.
Initially, Madueke and Jackson both went to grab the ball from Malo Gusto, with Madueke getting there first and prompting a 30-second exchange between the pair. Thiago Silva then intervened, with Jackson walking away.
Captain Conor Gallagher then approached Madueke, pointing at Palmer and telling him to hand the ball over. Madueke refused both men, before Gallagher grabbed the ball and handed it to Palmer.
Palmer and then Gallagher had to shove Jackson away, who came back to get involved again, then a final push from Gallagher on Madueke ended the squabble.
Pochettino said afterwards that all the players know Palmer is the designated penalty taker.
"The penalty taker is Palmer. It's Palmer who needs to decide if he wants to give the ball to a team-mate. It's important to fix. They realise now," the Argentine said.
"It's a shame. It's a process for a young team who need to learn a lot. I need to apologise because fans around the world are seeing this type of situation after 4-0 to fight for a penalty.
"They need to learn and be professional. We need to be focused on the collective. It's a clear example that it's a process we still need to learn."
Palmer has converted all nine penalties he has taken in the Premier League with only former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, has a better 100% conversion rate - from 11 penalties - in the competition's history.
Palmer himself tried to play down the incident afterwards.
"Other players wanted to take it, but I am the penalty taker and I wanted to take it," the ex-Manchester City player said.
"I think we are showing everyone wants to take responsibility. It may be a bit over the top, but everyone wants to win - we are laughing and joking about it."
Everton midfielder Dele Alli, watching the game for Sky Sports as he continues his recovery from a long-term injury, saw it differently.
This was Palmer's second home hat-trick in a row, having scored a 100th-minute penalty in a 4-3 win over Manchester United earlier this month.
"This is them showing their age. I'm not there at the training ground every day, but as far as I'm aware in their last big game, in the last minute when the pressure was on I didn't see them all fighting to take it then," he said.
"It's alright when it's 4-0 and you all want to get on the scoresheet."
Chelsea could be without top scorer Cole Palmer when they visit Premier League leaders Arsenal on Tuesday.
Palmer is the joint-top scorer in the league with 20 goals.
However, Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino said the 21-year-old is struggling to recover from illness in time for the game.
"We will see [Tuesday] morning. Today, I don't believe he can be involved," Pochettino said.
"Even if he is good [on Tuesday] maybe he is not in a condition to play. We hope he can recover from this situation and be involved with the team."
Chelsea are ninth in the Premier League - three points off seventh place - and Palmer's absence would be a blow for their hopes of qualifying for Europe.
However, it would be a boost to Arsenal's aspirations of winning the Premier League for the first time in 20 years.
The Gunners' hopes were dented by a 2-0 loss at home to Aston Villa on 14 April but they recovered with victory by the same scoreline at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
Tuesday's game will be Arsenal's fourth in 10 days, but manager Mikel Arteta insists his side are not being affected by the quick turnaround between fixtures.
He said: "We are keeping on doing what we have been doing - focusing on the next game and the task ahead, preparing really well - as we have done in the time we have had available to us.
"The boys look ready to go again."
Asked about the prospect of facing a Blues side without the goal threat of Palmer, he added: "I have no control over that, only on my players who are available.
"Whatever they [Chelsea] put out there, when you look at the squad quality they have is great.
"They are doing very well, they have good results recently and have been playing much better than their place in the table suggests.
"It will be a tough match, for sure."
Defender Jurrien Timber is out for Arsenal as he continues his recovery from a serious knee injury sustained on his debut. He is set to play for the Gunners' Under-21s this week.
Chelsea defender Thiago Silva will leave the club at the end of the season
The Brazilian, who joined the Blues on a free transfer from Paris St-Germain in 2020, has made 151 appearances for the Blues.
He has won three trophies in that time, including the 2020-21 Champions League.
Silva, 39, says his love for the club is "indescribable".
"Chelsea means a lot to me. I came here with the intention of only staying for a year and it ended up being four years," he said.
"It is already hard saying goodbye in the most normal of circumstances but when there is a mutual love, it’s even harder. But once a Blue, always a Blue."
Silva joined the club when Frank Lampard was manager and has since also played under Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino.
He has made 34 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season, including 25 starts in the Premier League.
The former AC Milan centre-back, capped 113 times by Brazil, says he hopes to return to Stamford Bridge in a new role in the future.
"I hope to leave the door open so that in the near future I can return, albeit in another role here," he said.
Thiago Silva will join Brazilian club Fluminense following Chelsea's final Premier League game of the season on 19 May.
The Blues have agreed that Silva, 39, can join his new team-mates prior to his registration transferring on 1 July.
The Brazil centre-back has signed a two-year contract with Fluminense.
He joined Chelsea on a free transfer from Paris St-Germain in 2020 and has made 152 appearances for the Blues.
Silva won three trophies in that time, including the 2020-21 Champions League.
He said his love for the club was "indescribable" in April, when he announced he would leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
Chelsea host Bournemouth in their final match of the season, with Mauricio Pochettino's side seventh and fighting to finish in a European place with three league games remaining.
Chelsea sacking would not be a problem - Pochettino
Mauricio Pochettino says it would "not be the end of the world" if he were to leave Chelsea at the end of the season.
The Blues boss called for an end to the "stupid rumours" following his side's victory against Tottenham last week.
But the Argentine says he and his coaching staff must be on the same page as the owners if he's to continue at the club.
Pochettino said the "organisation of the club is building" and that "we are all under assessment".
Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly said on Thursday that his plans for the club are "coming together" but Pochettino has made clear that conversations with the club's board at the end of the season should include his input.
“If we are happy, perfect," said 52-year-old Pochettino.
"But it is not only if the owners are happy or the sporting directors happy... You need to ask us also, because maybe (we) say ‘we are not happy’ and we accept the situation and we need to split,” Pochettino said.
“It is not going to be the first time the coaching staff at the end of the season decide to not keep going. But at this end, it is always the opposite way, it is always the owners or the sporting directors."
Pochettino, who has also managed Tottenham Hotspur and Paris St-Germain, said "two parties" are needed to "make a decision".
“Maybe we are not happy because we arrive here with a job to do and in the end it has not happened," he added. "I am not saying I am not happy.
"If we split it’s not a problem, it will not be the end of the world."
Chelsea, currently seventh in the Premier League, travel to Nottingham Forest on Saturday and Brighton on Wednesday before finishing the season at home against Bournemouth on 19 May.
Chelsea agree deal for teenager Estêvão Willian - sources
Chelsea have agreed a deal with Palmeiras for 17-year-old winger Estêvão Willian, sources have told ESPN.
The west London club have beaten off competition from some of Europe's biggest clubs to agree a deal that sources have told ESPN is worth an initial €34 million ($37m) with performance-related add-ons potentially taking the total to a figure in the region of €67m.
The teenager is regarded as one of the best young talents in his native Brazil but, should the transfer be completed, the teenager will not join the club until 2025
Chelsea have prioritised signing young talent ever since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital completed their takeover two years ago, with the club's new owners investing more than £1bn in the time since.
They have executed a number of deals with clubs in South America over the past few transfer windows. Andrey Santos and Kendry Páez, signed for Chelsea last year, while Thiago Silva will leave the club to rejoin his former club Fluminense after the final match of their Premier League season on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are set to land a bonus in the region of £5m as part of Eden Hazard's transfer to Real Madrid in 2019, despite the former Belgium winger retiring from football last October, a source has told ESPN.
Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, Ian Maatsen and Armando Broja could be sold if Chelsea received acceptable offers this summer
Gallagher and Chalobah, both 24, were significant parts of former manager Mauricio Pochettino’s plans, and he was ready to advocate for the duo to stay but his departure has added further uncertainty about their futures.
The Argentine left Stamford Bridge in an amicable exit by mutual consent on Tuesday evening.
Chelsea are believed to value Gallagher at around £50m as he enters the last year of his contract next month.
Gallagher remains reluctant to move despite Pochettino’s departure after a successful season, in which he often wore the captain’s armband, and made the most appearances.
The England midfielder is also cautious about rushing a move through before the European Championship this summer after being called up to Gareth Southgate’s preliminary squad.
Chalobah is also in no rush to leave with four years remaining on his contract in west London.
He was previously valued at £25m when Chelsea accepted an offer from Nottingham Forest last summer – only for him to reject a move to the East Midlands.
The English defender would only entertain offers from top seven Premier League clubs or Champions League clubs in Europe.
Left-back Maatsen, who is preparing for the Champions League final while on loan at Borussia Dortmund, is also up for sale.
The Netherlands Under-21 international, 22, extended his Chelsea contract before joining the German giants on loan in January but it included a £35m release clause.
Albania striker Broja, 22, who endured an unsuccessful loan spell at Fulham this season, is also available for sale and is attracting interest from a host of European clubs.
The two loanees are willing to move before 30 June which could help Chelsea adhere to Premier League profit and sustainability rules (PSR).
Chelsea have spent more than £1bn on transfers in the past four transfer windows - albeit while also selling £400m worth of talent - and want to continue investing in the playing squad.
However, the club deny any activity is in relation to concerns of PSR sanctions for falling foul of financial rules.
The Blues have agreed a £29.1m fee to sign 17-year-old Palmeiras winger Estevao Willian but he will only join the club in 2025 after turning 18.
Chelsea are in talks to appoint Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca as the replacement for Mauricio Pochettino.
The Italian, 44, took charge of the Foxes in June 2023 and has just led them back to the Premier League by winning the Championship at the first attempt.
Maresca is interested in moving to Chelsea, with talks continuing between the two clubs, 24 hours after Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna dropped out of the race for the role.
Former Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi and Brentford’s Thomas Frank have not been fully ruled out but there is broad consensus across the club that Maresca is the right choice.
Chelsea would have to pay compensation fees for any of their remaining options.
Pochettino left the club by mutual consent last week after finishing sixth in the Premier League in his one season in charge.
BBC Sport understands Leicester would be seeking £8m-£10m in compensation for Maresca, who served his coaching apprenticeship as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.
Whether the deal gets done would be dependent on Chelsea's willingness to pay such a fee.
However they are determined to agree a compensation package in the coming days.
Chelsea's attempt to overturn Reece James' ban for a red card has been rejected by the Football Association.
The Blues captain, 24, will miss the first three matches of next season after he was sent off for violent conduct when he fouled Brighton striker Joao Pedro last month.
James was banned for four matches in all, including Chelsea's final-day win over Bournemouth, with the additional one-game ban imposed as a result of it being his second red card of the season.
Chelsea's appeal claimed James was "disoriented" after being fouled from behind and that Pedro "made contact" first as he ran past, adding: "It had not been his intention to harm Mr Pedro, he was simply pushing him away with his foot."
The FA rejected the appeal - having not found the account of the defender "persuasive" - and did not accept that he was disoriented as he caught the Brazilian just below his knee, describing the action as "unnecessary" and rejecting the claim that he was simply "pushing" Pedro away.
There will be no further right to appeal for James, who missed out on selection for Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 England training squad.
Chelsea received more cautions than any club in Premier League history last season, which former boss Mauricio Pochettino put down to ill-discipline, with Enzo Maresca having been named his successor for the upcoming campaign.
Chelsea will block loan moves in bid to sell Lukaku
Chelsea will turn down any loan moves for Romelu Lukaku this summer in a bid to sell the Belgium striker in a permanent deal.
They are looking to recoup some of £97.5m they paid Inter Milan for him in 2021, with their asking price believed to be about £37m as the club aims to get the 31-year-old's £325,000-a-week wages off their books.
Roma are interested in re-signing Lukaku, who spent last season on loan at the Serie A club, but are unable to meet the asking price. AC Milan and Napoli, who have just appointed Lukaku’s former manager Antonio Conte, are also reportedly interested.
But the Italian clubs have limited finances and will have to see whether Chelsea soften their stance later in the transfer window.
Napoli were also tipped to propose a swap deal for striker Victor Osimhen but Chelsea are not interested in signing the Nigerian, who is valued in excess of £100m.
Chelsea accepted a bid for Lukaku from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal last summer but the forward rejected the move.
Chelsea have signed Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer with the 26-year-old joining the Blues on a four-year deal.
Adarabioyo, who will join when his contract expires at the end of the month, is understood to be making the move in order to play in Europe with Chelsea having qualified for next season's Europa Conference League.
Former Manchester City academy centre-back Adarabioyo rejected an offer to become one of the highest-paid players at Fulham in April.
"Chelsea is a huge club and this is a full-circle moment for me. I was born three miles away from Stamford Bridge and made my professional debut there," Adarabioyo said.
"I'm very excited and looking forward to helping push the club in the direction we want to go."
Chelsea hope he can help improve their record in both attacking and defensive set-pieces, as coach Bernardo Cueva joins them in a £750,000 deal from Brentford to establish a set-piece department.
Adarabioyo's arrival could accelerate the departure of Chelsea academy defender Trevoh Chalobah, who is available for sale this summer with reported interest from Manchester United.
Thiago Silva, 39, will also leave Chelsea to rejoin Brazilian club Fluminense.
Chelsea have secured Adarabioyo amid major pressure from rivals.
Manchester United tried to turn his head with a late approach but he had already agreed a move to Stamford Bridge and kept his word.
It followed Chelsea's hijacking of Newcastle’s month-long talks for Adarabioyo, with Atletico Madrid having also been interested but unable to compete with Premier League options.
The former Manchester City academy graduate chose Chelsea due to the promise of an important role, the chance to work with new manager Enzo Maresca again – who he briefly worked with at City – and because of his belief in the project.
Chelsea also qualified for Europe ahead of Newcastle.
The Blues' decision to push the boat out for Adarabioyo is hoped to help improve on a major weakness at set-pieces – utilising his 6ft 5in stature – while both attacking and defending at free-kicks and corners.
Coach Bernardo Cueva will also join from Brentford to build a new set-piece department to improve the club’s fortunes.
There was also a gap left open in the squad by Thiago Silva's departure and it is believed Adarabioyo's ability on the ball will be an asset.
Chelsea turn to the Championship as Man Utd target wanted in double transfer swoop
Chelsea are weighing up moves for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Archie Gray after both impressed in the Championship last year.
The Blues are expected to be active in the transfer market once again after appointing Enzo Maresca as their new head coach earlier this summer and the Italian is keen to reunite with Dewsbury-Hall, who was an influential figure in the Leicester City team that Maresca guided to the Championship title last term.
Dewsbury-Hall, 25, scored 12 goals in all competitions for the Foxes under Maresca. Brighton are also long-term admirers of the highly-rated midfield maestro and attempted to sign him back in January.
As first revealed by The Telegraph, Chelsea are also keeping tabs on Gray. The Leeds United prodigy, 18, valued in excess of £30million by his club, also starred in the second-tier last year and is believed to have a whole host of Premier League suitors, including Manchester United.
It's outlined that Chelsea have informed Leicester and Leeds of their interest in Dewsbury-Hall and Gray, 18, although they have not made a formal offer for either.
Maresca is keen on bolstering his midfield options after succeeding Mauricio Pochettino earlier this summer. The Blues want the strength in depth to cope with a bloated fixture list next season after qualifying for the Europa Conference League. And the prospect of more matches at the Club World Cup, which takes place next summer, could also influence their transfer dealings.
In an interview with BBC Sport earlier this week, Dewsbury-Hall was coy over his future amid speculation he could leave his boyhood club this summer despite promotion.
Archie Gray is also admired by Chelsea
He said: "I have been here since I was a kid. I love everything about the club. I grew up and managed to play in the first team. I am happy. I have never said I am actively wanting to leave. That sort of stuff is not up to me. You never know with football - the season is about to start, so we will see."
He went on to wax lyrical about Maresca, tipping the new Chelsea boss to become one of the top managers in the game following his big summer switch to London.
Dewsbury-Hall added: "Enzo was an unbelievable manager. I genuinely see him becoming a top manager, so it wasn’t a surprise to see he was in demand. It is weird having to change a manager after being so successful, but that’s football.
Chelsea have turned their attention to two of last season's most impressive performers in the Championship as new boss Enzo Maresca targets midfield reinforcements
Chelsea agree £8.5m deal for Atlanta defender Wiley
Chelsea have agreed a fee of about £8.5m for United States defender Caleb Wiley from Atlanta United.
The 19-year-old will sign a seven-year contract in west London before going on loan to Ligue 1 club Strasbourg, which is part of the same BlueCo ownership group as Chelsea.
His long-term future is at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea believe he has high potential.
Wiley has made two appearances for the USA and is part of their squad for this summer's Paris Olympics.
The Blues are also in advanced talks to sign centre-back Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors and are set to finalise a move for Basel midfielder Renato Veiga in the coming days.
Chelsea have completed the £12m signing of Basel and Portugal Under-21 midfielder Renato Veiga on a seven-year deal.
The 20-year-old has signed a contract until 2031 to become the Blues' fifth signing of the summer after deals for Tosin Adarabioyo, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Omari Kellyman and Marc Guiu.
Veiga, who is also capable of playing in defence, leaves Basel having made just 26 appearances for the Swiss club since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2023.
"I'm absolutely buzzing to be here," said Veiga.
"This is one of the biggest clubs in England – the biggest for me – and I'm just really excited to get started."
Renato captained Portugal's Under-20s side before moving up to the under-21s. He has featured in all seven of the side's European Championship qualifiers for the 2025 edition.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca does not think there will be "any problems at all" when midfielder Enzo Fernandez joins up with his squad on Monday on their US pre-season tour, amid ongoing disciplinary proceedings into alleged racism.
The midfielder, 23, was accused by the French Football Federation of singing a "racist and discriminatory" chant after Argentina won the Copa America.
The song contains lyrics which question the heritage of France's black and mixed race players.
Fernandez's Chelsea team-mate Wesley Fofana, who has one cap for France, posted an image of the video on Instagram, describing it as "uninhibited racism".
Fifa has started an investigation into the incident, which Fernandez has apologised for.
Maresca said: "It is quite easy in terms of the player doing a statement to apologise. The club did the same, so I don't think there is something to add in terms of the situation. It is already clear and clarified."
Asked whether there would be an issue within the squad, with Chelsea having seven France players who are black or mixed race, Maresca replied: "I don't think so. They are all human beings. I don't think there are any bad intentions from any of them.
"I don't think when Enzo is back that we will have any situations. Enzo clarified the situation, the club the same, so there is nothing to add. They are not bad persons or human beings.
"It can happen but I don't think there are any problems at all. I spoke with Enzo and all of them."
Maresca, who was appointed in May, was joined by captain Reece James to preview a match against Wrexham in Santa Clara on Wednesday.
James said he was ready to get involved if there are issues, saying: "It's a difficult situation and Enzo has acknowledged he was wrong and quickly put his hand up to apologise to the club, team and people offended.
"Enzo hasn't arrived yet. I will have to make that judgement [on whether to get involved] when he does. I hope everyone can move forward with the situation.
"I've spoken to Enzo and everyone involved but the conversations have to stay in house."
