No Wonder the song has riled up both the Sanghis(RSIS) and Sudapis (Muslims who supports SDPI). Worth watching and sharing just for that alone.

English Translation:

A woman like the pearl flower

A woman like the pearl flower
Her highness- Khadeja Beebi
In the holy city of Macca
She lived like a Queen

A woman like the pearl flower
Her highness Khadeja Beebi
In the holy city of Macca
She lived like a Queen

Asked Khathimun Nabi
Sent as in charge of trade
At the first sight of him
She desired him

After completing the expedition
Blessed Rasulullah came back
To marry the Prophet
was the Bibi desire

A woman like the pearl flower
Her highness Khadeja Beebi
In the holy city of Macca
She lived like a Queen

The Kerala people are doing something right. In between making great films, they sweep the country with viral hysteria at regular intervals.

Lets talk about the music video, because if I start talking about Kerala's reality, it will get ugly.

Isn't this about music? After all, Whole India is getting uglier. No need to talk about Kerala alone. And as if I am going to care, if you talk about Kerala's reality.

Why has it offended RSS and the SDPI? Also what is special about this video.

Mallu trolls at it again. Not that RSS are any saints but you Ayyappans/Kelappans should be the last one to point fingers at others.

it's viral because Valentine's day is near and the way that girls expresses her love with eyebrows and eye blink everybody finding it cute.
the Actress has become overnight sensation on indian social media.
already There are lots of edited meme videos featuring politicians or famous personalities replacing boy in this video.

That actress is all over my FB feed.Very annoying. She’s become a celebrity in both India and Pakistan.

Its a popular Mappilah Muslim Poem from few decades back. Most present muslim schools of thought in Kerala consider it Haraam to sing about the prophet. There are already a few protest voices .

But there is no way to stop it now since its gone so viral. I'm not sure if the Bangladeshi/Pakistani fans of the music video will appreciate it the same way once they figure out the lyrics.

If your intention was to make fun of stereotype mallu names , you'd be better off with "krishnan-kutty" or "Rajan" or some name that ends with "Kumar" or "Nair" or whatever.. .

Ayyappan and Kelappan while being religious names , were traditionally associated with mostly Dalits and lower castes, especially Ayyappan. So using them as nouns isn't something that is considered culturally appropriate.

I had temple entry movement and Narayan Guru's chela S Ayappan in mind.

S. Ayyappan was a social revolutionary and an OBC as well, hence the name. And 'Narayana' was a title guru took up after attaining enlightenment and commencing spiritual teaching, his birth name was 'Naanu' .. He had to earn the aukaat to keep a Sanskrit name.

Back in the day there were specific names that were forbidden for the lower castes , especially proper Sanskrit names. Most often they would be given distorted names of the Sanskrit versions used by the UCs . Hence you see a very deep association of caste with first names in my state , among older folks.

I'm assuming you are mallu, what does the RSS have to do with this ? There is no inter-faith relationship being insinuated in the movie .

I am not a mallu, but I can point you to comments made by Sanghis. Kerala Sanghis are doing what Cow belt Sanghis did for Padmavat.

Old wine in a new bottle. Still i like this song and this video. Vineeth sreenivasan's mappila songs are really good.

These sudapi's need to shut up. I don't understand why the sanghis would have a problem with this?

I see there is nothing wrong with the lyrics. The only word could have been avoided was 'Moham'.

Sandeep is an upper caste name though. STOP appropriating our culture ye heretics.

I thought it had gone viral because of the girl at 1:31.

She is everywhere now.

That's a trick our brethren up north missed. Taking up sanskrit/north Indian names makes it harder to tag us as shudras.

The Singer and Music Composer are the same as Jimikki Kammal , the previous viral song.

Ok. Fatwa issued and FIR registered againist the song for hurting muslim religious sentiments.

Hahaha yea I heard on the news, same old story here nothing new just another day in India..

Unlike most other muslim literature in India, which is in Urdu or Arabic, Mapilah songs are all in the local lingo - Malabari -Malayalam. With liberal use of Arabic words. Translating that would've taken some time :)) ..

Can anyone explain to me this fuss over the lyrics ?
Fills my heart with despair when I see the most educated and healthy state of India competing with it's northern brothers in terms of Fatwabazi. Please leave that to the Ulema of Deoband.

Nothing wrong with the lyrics, it's been there for several decades in our mappila community. I guess the issue is with using the school romance and the winking stuff while the story of Prophet Muhammad and Khadija (RA) is being recited in the background.

Initially the director and music director (both muslims) was planning to withdraw the song from youtube fearing the non bailable offence against Priya and the crew. But now they have decided not to withdraw it from youtube seeing the overwhelming support from the malayalis all over the world including majority of muslims supporting them.

We have our own share of fringe groups who dislike this video but they are limited to cyber trolling. But these hyderabadi and mumbai idiots are hell bend on banning this song. I hope it doesn't get banned just because of this....

We have to many idiots in our country. I am literally fed up. Anything and everything seems to be offending something.

Now that muslims are offended by this song, the liberal in me has woken up and I support the song, because as long as it does not hurt my hindu sentiments, I am a liberal.

SandyB thanks for sharing the correct lyrics. Still that essence of the song will only be understood by a malayali, translation just destroys it's beauty and the respect given to Nabi(saw) and Khadeeja beevi.

What is a pearl flower? Reminds me when during english essay exam I used the term mind-peacock which is the literal translation for a term in Bangla meaning ecstatic feeling. I was deducted 2 marks for that.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the song. I’ve heard people all over are smitten by the girl who does the winking in the video which I think is just cute. About the big fuss on the lyrics, people need to take a step back and chill..It’s just a coming of age movie from the looks of it. We’ve all been there at some point...

So to you ever movie which has a video similar to this is pehla Nasha for you ?

Also not sure how familiar you are with Malayalam movies which shows realistic stories. You will be quiet surprised if you watch movies like Drishyam, Memories or Bangalaore days.

Bengali movies win national awards for fun without breaking a sweat. malayali movies may look good in comparison to other south indian movies which are mostly crap.

Pearl flower is synonymous to something which is very precious and beautiful too. Here it's refering to Khadeeja(RA).

Well tbf to our Hindu liberal friends on Pakpassion , their stance was consistent when controversy surrounding Padmavati broke out. Only you and me held opposite views. You were of course on your usual troll mission while I was under immense pressure to defend my community's actions.

Maaf karo bhaijaan. Just know that it's a precious stone, never cared whether it's ruby/emerald or diamond.

Then why the translation has pearl flower in it?:20:

I think, Manikyamalaraya poovi translates as Ruby coloured flower of a woman , which should mean rose

In Tamil, It means ruby.

Pearl - muthu. That'w why we call Tuticorin - Muthu Nagar (Pearl City)

Just looked up this movie in Wiki.

I had to smile at the Malayali names. Always can see some funny names. SandyB

Lijo Panadan
Omar Lulu
Vyshak Pavanan
Dilrupa (Heard about Dilruba (arabic I guess. But never heard of Dilrupa)

If I had seen these names, I would not guess these are Indian names. Omar can be an Indian name, but Lulu? :))

Just caught a new clip of the teaser trailer which seems to be going viral too... Reminds me of being back in highschool

You should search for Arwi - the bridge language for Tamil Muslims in both India and Sri Lanka to learn Arabic. It was used to write about Sufism, law etc.

Btw, the singer didn't pronounce Khalb correctly. It's an Arabic word for heart.

Obviously dude, the vocabulary of malayalam literature is dominated Old tamizh and Sanskrit origin words. Newer 'pure' malayalam words are rarely used in literature.

BTW Are you Tamil muslim ?

In Telugu Mutyam means pearl. Manikyam means any precious stone like ruby/sapphire etc.

Telugu is a South Central Dravidian language after all, but it separated away from the common proto-dravidian first . Hence the larger difference in words. Even then you will find the 1st half of many telugu words to be the same as that of the South Dravidian languages like Malayalam, Tamil or Kannada.

Akkade - Ange - Avide
Ikkade - Inge - Ivide
Nivu - Neenga - Ningal
Sare - Seri - Sheri
Cheyu - Seyy - Cheyyu

So muthu means pearl? My colleagues used to call me muthu swamy as I used to frequent the restroom. Now I know it means king of pearls.

That's a play on the contrasting hindi and dravidian meanings of Muth .

Muthuswamy is a very common Tamil Name.

You'd be shocked to find what certain hindi/urdu words would mean in Dravidian languages .

For example try to find the Telugu word for come faster troodon :)))

We've discussed this before. Mallus love giving 2 syllable fancy names for their kids. Even muslims. Though recently scholars are pushing for Pure-Arabic names . Back in the day even for millenial muslims of kerala- Amal , Roshan , Babu , Dilu , Febin, Febina, Shafna, Reena , Jini , were quite common, so were older mappilah names like Jabbaar, Aamina, Moosa , Sooppi , Kunhaali (means little ali) etc etc , and the most famous one : Mahammad-Kutty aka Mammootty .

I don't know why but Lulu for some reason is hugely popular here. MA Yusuf ALi, another 3 initial mappilah, owns the biggest supermarket chain in the middle east - The LULU group.

Mallus are so foreign

Names ya looks ?

Nothing unexpected from Indian "muslims" who support this.

The song is 40 years old, and comes from an Islamic culture (mappilah) that predates Islam in NW India by atleast 600 + years. So yeah, you can give them a little leeway.

The issue is not with the song, but showing teenagers romancing with that song in the background. At least this is what I found my brothers from hyderabad complaining about.
