Manny Pacquiao confirms boxing match with MMA star Conor McGregor next year [Update Post #25]

Try calling the local boxing clubs in Pakistan, maybe they know which venues will be showing the match. :shrug

Didnt Geo Super start showing the big boxing fights a few years ago?

Otherwise might have to resort to shady streams

GeoSuper only shows Amir Khans fights.

It'd be a real shame if the Biggest Fight of the Century isn't going to be televised in Pakistan.

Can't wait for this one. Only a week to go now :afridi

Floyd Mayweather has said he will come out of retirement to fight Manny Pacquiao in a rematch later this year.

The pair first met in Las Vegas in May 2015, with Mayweather winning via unanimous decision.

Mayweather posted a video on social media with the caption: "I'm coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year. Another 9 figure pay day on the way."

The 41-year-old has not fought since his bout with UFC star Conor McGregor in August 2017.

He announced his retirement after the 10th-round stoppage-win over McGregor, taking his record to 50-0.

The first meeting between the American and 39-year-old Filipino Pacquiao was the most lucrative contest in boxing history, billed as 'The Fight of the Century'.

Britain's Amir Khan has also been talking up the prospect of a fight with Pacquiao after his vicory against Samuel Vargas earlier this month.

"The only fight that works for me over Kell Brook is Manny Pacquiao," Khan said. "I want him. He is my number-one pick."

If this is true (never know with Floyd) then am sure Manny wil not be facing Khan in December, he will hold out for the Floyd fight and face someome less risky. Amir on the other hand should know better from his days of being one of the most ducked fighters at his peak between 140-147 and look elsewhere, I doubt he will wait around in either case and has learned his lesson the hard way.

Why would anyone want to watch a rematch? The first one was a non-event, he might as well have a rematch with Conor Mcgregor. Mayweather needs to retire gracefully, his borefests are disrupting genuine fights at that weight and turning the division into a joke.

No mate the welter division is healthy and the one with most depth in Boxing, we just had Porter / Garcia over the weekend which was terrific, Spence is a great champion and the P4P elite talent of Crawford has also moved up and holds a world title, Amir has returned; while not at his peak he always thrills, Thurman will be returning soon and there have been whispers of Mikey Garcia giving 147 lb a go. Then there's your Jesse Vargas, Broners, Ugas, Horn and Lejarraga who keep things very exciting, so much talent and depth it's unreal Rishwat.

A Floyd/Manny fight will hardly take away from any of these blokes, check out Manny in his fight vs the dangerous Matthyse; he looked fantastic and can still go, believe you me he would give the top welters of today a hard time. The last fight between the two was underwhelming but Manny had a shoulder injury and Floyd rarely puts his foot on the gas pedal in the last 10 years of his career, this fight will still sell very well because of Floyd's unbeaten record, aura of invincibility and Manny's legend as the 8th wonder of the World, the fight may not be exciting again but it's a great spectacle and with Floyd's age you got to wonder if his foot speed is still there, I suspect it has declined to an extent and with a rejuvinated Manny the fight could be an improvement over the last one. In either situation, I don't think it is bad for the welter division or Boxing.

You know your boxing mate so not going to argue, but I'm not interested in watching any more Floyd fights, I will not be booking PPV. I wish the bloke would get KO'd just to get him out of boxing for good, but he's too smart, will probably still dance rings round other fighters past their peak like Manny.

This would be pretty ballsy if mayweather comes back and fights Pacquiao. Pacquiao looked really sharp vs matheysse.

Pacquiao deserves a victory over Floyd before retirement. Everyone knows Floyd delayed the fight as long as possible and only accepted it when it suited him the most. Father time waits for no one.

That's fair, as a paying customer you would like more exciting fights and that is understandable. Even as someone who enjoys fights that are rather dull at times when am in awe of the skill there's no denying that Floyd deserves criticism for staying in the 3rd/4th gear even when he is well ahead. But I believe Manny remains a threat even at his age and am hoping he spectacularly knocks Floyd out.

I would much rather watch Pacquiao fight one of the other contenders, any fight with Mayweather will just turn into another chess match with Floyd making him chase shadows. I hope Floyd has a minor accident and injures his hand or something to keep him away from boxing for good. The sport will be better for it.

Great fight from an action POV although one sided, Cpt. Rishwat if you can get a hold of the fight check it out

Will keep an eye out on Sky for a re-run. Would be good to see Manny back in all action mode again, I thought he was finished after the Floyd fight, good for him if he's come back swinging.

I believe this time Pacquiao will do better because hes been more active but mayweather is a genius in the ring. I would still pay to watch this fight again. Intriguing fight

It was on boxnation here in the UK, managed to find a link:

Thanks, I watched it and to be honest it didn't really prove anything. Matheysse looked a durable but one-paced fighter, not that different to the guy who fought Khan last week, other than he probably has a bigger punch. He had very little agility and slow reactions so even though Pacquiao has visibly slowed down, Matheysse was just overwhelmed in every department.

Manny can blame a sore shoulder for his loss to Mayweather, but he got beat off some Aussie nobody Jeff Horne after that. He's over the hill in my opinion, Floyd will dance rings round him again, no way would I pay money to watch that fight.

Matheysse has hardly been the most technically sound boxer out there but he is essentially an old fashioned pressure brawler, while he was shot, he was also made to look that way by Manny's class and if Manny was that shot you'd expect the younger man to really show the Pacman his age; after all neither Alexander, Peterson, Judah, Garcia and Postal were able to deal with him in such fashion. Agree, Manny is not the same he was 10 years ago but he can still go and it wont be as easy for Floyd this time round. The Horn loss was a big robbery, Manny had one fight left on his contract with Top Rank so good ol Bob passed around the envelope to get the world title belt on Horn so he could feed him to his next big star in Crawford. But I can see what you mean, when you see the Manny of old the one now you immediately would think he is passed it but this version is still good enough to give some of the best a solid test, that's the nature of hall of fame fighters. Yeah, after the last fight in 2015 don't blame you tbh.

Pacquiao confirms boxing match with MMA star McGregor next year

Philippine boxing icon Manny Pacquiao will face former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor in the boxing ring next year, and part of proceeds from the fight will go to coronavirus victims in his country.

“For the sake of all the Filipino COVID-19 victims, Senator Manny Pacquiao will be fighting UFC superstar Conor McGregor next year,” Jayke Joson, special assistant to Pacquiao, who is also a Philippine senator, said on Saturday.

“Our lawyers are finalising all the confidential details, but both fighters are getting ready for this one epic last boxing fight,” he said.

Joson’s statement followed a tweet by Irishman McGregor on Friday in which he said he would be “boxing Pacquiao next in the Middle East”.

McGregor, 32, announced on Twitter in June he was retiring from mixed martial arts for the third time. He first quit the sport in April 2016. In March 2019, he again announced he was hanging up his gloves, but on both occasions the retirements were short-lived.

Joson also said the fight could be staged in the Middle East after the coronavirus pandemic abates, adding Pacquiao would donate a “huge portion” of his prize earnings to Filipino COVID-19 victims.
The Philippines has the most confirmed COVID-19 infections in Southeast Asia and the region’s second-highest number of coronavirus deaths, next to Indonesia.

Total confirmed coronavirus cases in the Philippines surpassed 300,000 on Saturday, while deaths rose to 5,284.

The 41-year-old Pacquiao, whose speed and power belie his age, is the only man in boxing history to hold world titles in eight different divisions.

Pacquiao has not fought since claiming the WBA welterweight crown with a stunning victory over Keith Thurman in Las Vegas in July 2019, taking his record to 62-7-2 with 39 knockouts.

A bout against McGregor, who faced welterweight great Floyd Mayweather in a money-spinning 2017 fight, would guarantee Pacquiao another lucrative payday as he nears the end of an illustrious boxing career.

Despite his one-sided 10th round technical knockout loss to Mayweather in his boxing debut, McGregor had shown he was capable of challenging “the best boxers in the world”, Pacquiao’s promoter Sean Gibbons told AFP news agency.
