The stakes are high as New Zealand Women take on Pakistan Women in a pivotal World Cup clash in Colombo. With just one win and one no-result from four outings, the White Ferns—under the leadership of Sophie Devine—are in must-win territory to keep their semifinal hopes alive. Devine has led from the front, amassing 259 runs with trademark grit, but her side needs more than individual brilliance. Bowlers like Lea Tahuhu and Amelia Kerr have impressed, yet New Zealand must turn solid starts into commanding victories.

Pakistan, meanwhile, is still searching for its first win of the tournament. Fatima Sana’s team sits at the bottom of the table, but their spirited showing against England—where they nearly pulled off an upset—suggests they’re not far off.

Squads:

Pakistan Women: Muneeba Ali, Omaima Sohail, Sidra Amin, Aliya Riaz, Natalia Pervaiz, Fatima Sana (c), Sidra Nawaz (wk), Rameen Shamim, Diana Baig, Nashra Sandhu, Sadia Iqbal, Syeda Aroob Shah, Sadaf Shamas, Eyman Fatima, Shawaal Zulfiqar

New Zealand Women: Suzie Bates, Georgia Plimmer, Amelia Kerr, Sophie Devine(c), Brooke Halliday, Maddy Green, Isabella Gaze (wk), Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Bree Illing, Eden Carson, Polly Inglis, Bella James, Hannah Rowe, Lea Tahuhu

You can keep crying for a thing that was started by your board... Keep crying bruh
We were/ are never crying about Hybrid model. It was Pakistan who were) are crying continuously

Btw Pakistan women has been playing entire tournament at single venue but yet to win any matches forget about winning the trophy ( wo men's ya women's unke bus ki bat ni hai ab ) .

:klopp :kp

They have been able to create some good positions for themselves but do not have the mental strength and ability to finish off games.

Had Aus and Eng at something like 78/7 in two consecutive matches but lost to Aus and against Eng they were unlucky to not win.

Today they were sent in to bat and all they need was some careful play but they have squandered a pretty solid position. Could easily be 90/2 right now but have lost three wickets needlessly.

The captain is a decent bowler but not a great batter and she continues to promote herself.

Match abandoned between New Zealand and Pakistan as South Africa progress
Media release

Rain scuppered any hope of a result in Colombo as New Zealand’s clash with Pakistan was abandoned – a result that guarantees South Africa’s place in the semi-finals.

With eight points to their name, South Africa can now not be caught by the White Ferns, who would still trail them on number of wins, even if they do win their final two group stage matches.

As a result, the Protreas join Australia in being assured a top four finish, although there is plenty yet to be decided in terms of seedings.

With this washout, New Zealand’s next match against India is shaping up to be a winner-takes-all clash in Navi Mumbai.

They chose to bowl in this one after winning the toss, with Lea Tahuhu breaking an opening partnership of 30 when she trapped Omaima Sohail leg before for three.

Muneeba Ali then departed to a brilliant Suzie Bates catch for 22 before Tahuhu (2/20) got her second as she removed Sidra Amin.

A first rain delay followed that dismissal, and after the resumption, Eden Carson and Amelia Kerr grabbed a wicket apiece to leave Pakistan in big trouble on 92 for five from 25 overs.

However, the rain returned and this time, the players did not come back out, with the game eventually abandoned and the points shared.

New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine said: “We had a little bit of hope seeing the South Africa game the other day and that they were off the field for five hours and came back.

“We just needed the rain to hold off, but it didn't happen today. But the situation is very clear, we have to win both games, starting with India in Mumbai.

“We head back to India tomorrow and look forward to the challenges.”

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana added: “I think we got a good start but we lost a few wickets. But we had a good chance if we could have reached 180. We had a good belief in our bowling side.

“We will try to win the next two matches and try to end our tournament on a high note.”

New Zealand v Pakistan – R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, Sri Lanka

Pakistan 92/5 from 25 overs (Aliya Riaz 28 not out, Muneeba Ali 22; Lea Tahuhu 2/20, Eden Carson 1/7)

Result: Match abandoned

Whoever in ICC thought holding some of the matches in Sri Lanka during this time of the year was a good idea should be fired

This problem plagues cricket.

New Zealand had two matches today on opposite ends of the world, one for their men's and one for their women.

Both rained off.

Not ICC but PCB who asked hybrid model Plus venue for hybrid model. :kp
I believe both India and Pakistan agreed to it, so saying PCB asked for hybrid model isn't exactly correct. And the hybrid model doesn't state that all matches should take place in Sri Lanka. Kinda stupid to hold matches in a country where you know there will be heavy monsoon rainfall.
