By the time this match takes place, both teams could already be out of the semifinal race. Pakistan are officially eliminated following their heavy defeat to South Africa on Tuesday, while Sri Lanka are clinging to slim hopes after their nail-biting, last-over win against Bangladesh on Monday. However, if India beat New Zealand on Thursday, Sri Lanka’s campaign will also come to an end, as India’s third win would make it mathematically impossible for Sri Lanka to qualify.

Regardless of the standings, this fixture offers both sides a chance to finish their tournament on a positive note. Pakistan remain winless, though rain cruelly denied them a near-certain victory against England earlier in the event. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will want to put in a more convincing performance with the bat after struggling against Bangladesh — a game they were rescued in by their captain’s late heroics. Having been one of the co-hosts, they’ll be eager to sign off with a stronger statement.

Interestingly, both teams share similar weaknesses. Pakistan’s batting has been overly dependent on Sidra Ameen, with collapses often following her dismissal. Sri Lanka, while less reliant on Chamari Athapaththu than in the past, have still failed to produce a complete batting display. Hasini Perera’s maiden international fifty against Bangladesh was a bright spot, but Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Samarawickrama, and Kavisha Dilhari will all feel they haven’t delivered their best cricket in this World Cup.

Premadasa International Cricket Stadium – Toss Update:

Sri Lanka have won the toss and elected to field first.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan had to settle for a point each in their final ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup group-stage match after persistent rain washed out play at the R Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo.

The result meant Pakistan ended their campaign winless, collecting just three points from seven matches - all coming via washouts. Sri Lanka on the other hand wrapped up their campaign with five points from seven games, having registered only a solitary win.

Sri Lanka had earlier won the toss and opted to bowl but Pakistan reached only 18 without loss in 4.2 overs before rain returned to halt proceedings. With conditions showing no sign of improvement, the match was eventually abandoned marking the fifth rain-affected game of the tournament.

Earlier on, after a rain delay pushed back the toss, the match was reduced to 34 overs per side with the powerplay lasting seven overs.

Sri Lanka had made one change to their lineup with Dewmi Vihanga replacing Udeshika Prabodhani. Pakistan, meanwhile, had brought in Eyman Fatima and Syeda Aroob Shah for their final group stage clash.

Both Sri Lanka and Pakistan were already out of contention for the semi-final and were looking to finish on a high in their final World Cup clash.

While Sri Lanka managed to get past Bangladesh in a close game in Navi Mumbai to earn their first points from a win, Pakistan failed to get going in their campaign, earning points due to rain-abandoned matches.

Sri Lanka had earlier beaten Bangladesh to keep their semi-final qualification chances alive but India's win over New Zealand put an end to their hopes of reaching the knockouts.

Both Pakistan and SL got 3 points from 3 washouts.

I have never seen so many washouts in a World Cup before.

ICC tournaments should n’t ideally be held in Lanka because of inclement weather. Even worse than England! Too many games including test matches ruined by rain.
