Further proof, if any were needed, of how serious an issue brain drain is.

Hope they don't have an English speaking test to gain entry, or we could be seeing her back here

I wonder what she'll do there? She's not going to get an acting gig, maybe she'll open a dollar store like that singer from the Pakistani rock band who moved to the US?

Farooq Ahmad from Aaroh. I believe he is back in Pakistan at least part of the time, and is trying to work his way back into music, so all hope is not lost for seeing Meera on the silver screen.

A lady of her acting talents should be working in Hollywood that is why she is leaving:ma She has nothing to prove in Lollywood, has even conquered Bollywood as well:facepalm:

LONDON/NEW YORK: Actress Meera has appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan to arrange for her repartition as she is left helpless in America where coronavirus has taken thousands of lives.

In a video message sent to The News, a troubled Meera told that her Chinese cameraman has died and she is stranded without help from anyone.

Meera, a month earlier, had gone to America for the shooting of her film “Long Distance”.

“It is 2:00am in New York City and I am confined in my room and addressing you (PM Imran). I had come to New York with several artists including Humayun Saeed for the shooting of a film and show. My colleagues have gone back to Pakistan but I am stuck in New York,” Meera said.

The Baaji actress said all her resources have exhausted and as a result, living in the US had become a tough task for her.

“I have no savings and my survival is difficult. New York is turning into a graveyard. Every day thousands of people are dying.

In her emotional message, Meera says that she doesn’t want to die in a foreign land.

“Dear prime minister, you have always supported artists. All countries are bringing back their citizens to their homelands. I request you to please make arrangements for my repatriation to Pakistan as I wish to die in my country,” she urged.

Speaking to this correspondent over the phone, Meera said that all actors have returned but only she and actor Saud remain in the United States.

Meera does not only have the lead role in Long Distance but she is involved in the upcoming movies' production as well.

“Saud is in Dallas and I am stuck in a terrible situation. A Chinese cameraman of my crew died after contracting COVID-19. I am scared. I have tried my best to reach out to Pakistani diplomats but none of them has helped me,” she expressed.

Meera recently posted a video message on social media from New York to create awareness about the novel coronavirus that has killed thousands of people across the world.

The actress spoke about how the outbreak started and spread across the globe and suggested the measures to prevent the infection.

She had said in her video message: "Coronavirus is a virus that has gone to become a pandemic across the world. The cause of this is behind a lack of hygiene practices in vet markets across China. A solution to this would be halal eating and sanitation that would prevent this kind of behavior.”

A Lahore sessions court dismissed on Monday a petition filed by actor Meera against a family court's decision rejecting her plea to declare her nikahnama (marriage document) with businessman Attiqur Rehman fabricated.

In a short verdict, Additional District and Sessions Judge Mazhar Hussain dismissed the appeal and upheld the family court's decision. The actor claimed that Rehman prepared a fake nikahnama to grab her property. She denied having any relationship with Rehman and accused him of blackmailing her by claiming to be her husband.

The family court rejected her plea in May 2018 and declared her marriage with Rehman valid. However, it cancelled said marriage on the basis of a khula sough by her. The plea was filed nine years earlier, in 2009.

At the time, the judge, Babar Nadeem, observed that the suit moved by Meera nine years earlier was not based on the truth and she was the wife of the defendant (Rehman). “The nikhanama is lawfully registered,” the judge said.

He noted that the testimony of witnesses revealed that a house in DHA Lahore had become bone of contention between the couple and they resorted to criminal and civil litigation against each other for the last 10 years.

The judge observed that the couple could not live anymore like husband and wife due to bitterness of their relation. “Therefore, the nikhanama in question is hereby declared cancelled,” the judge added.

Meera had argued that Rehman had showed a fake nikahnama in order to steal her property. She claimed that the nikahnama was not verified by the union council concerned and had asked the court to declare the impugned marriage certificate fake. Rehman had also filed a private complaint before a judicial magistrate against Meera, accusing her of committing a crime by contracting marriage with Captain Naveed as she was still his wife. He said Meera wed Naveed without dissolution of her previous marriage and accused her of occupying his house in DHA.
