A source close to President Donald Trump said the latest developments surrounding his former national security advisor Michael Flynn are "very, very, very bad," according to NBC News.

Flynn pleaded guilty on Friday to lying to the FBI and agreed to cooperate with investigators working on Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe.

As part of Flynn's plea deal he agreed to "cooperate fully, truthfully, completely, and forthrightly" with the special counsel's office. His cooperation could include taking government-administered polygraph tests and participating in covert operations, according to the agreement.

Flynn is the first Trump White House official to be charged with a crime in connection to Mueller's investigation.

Flynn's plea is "a very big deal," said Gerald Lefcourt, a leading criminal defense attorney.

Lefcourt, a past president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, said it signals that Mueller believes information from Flynn will be used to successfully prosecute other Trump associates.

Ty Cobb, an attorney for the president, signaled that he remained optimistic about the president's prospects with regard to the probe.

"Nothing about the guilty plea or the charge implicates anyone other than Mr. Flynn," he said.

Trump has repeatedly denied any inappropriate connections between his aides and the Russian government.

Cobb didn't respond to a request for comment from CNBC. A spokesperson for the White House also did not immediately respond.

Using Comic Sans MS should be a crime. :trump

Apparently Kushner asked Flynn to talk to his Russian contacts to ask them to not support resolution against Israel for their illegal settlements.

Flynn must be singing like a canary if a plea deal is being finalised.

One would have thought that a retired General would act with more honour in not colluding with a hostile power and telling the truth.

A US appeals court on Wednesday directed a federal judge to drop the criminal case against President Donald Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn as demanded by the Justice Department, preventing a judicial review of the propriety of the request.

In a split decision, a three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled in favour of Flynn and the Trump administration in preventing US District Judge Emmet Sullivan from exercising his discretion on whether to grant the department's motion to clear Flynn , who twice pleaded guilty.

Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general who served as an adviser to then-presidential candidate Donald Trump during the 2016 election campaign, had been seeking to withdraw his 2017 guilty plea in which he admitted to lying to the FBI about interactions with Russia’s ambassador to the US in the weeks before Trump took office.

Flynn’s lawyers, both in court and in public, argued that he was ambushed as part of a plot by biased investigators and that the case should be dismissed.

Trump said in March that he was considering a pardon for Flynn, who briefly served as the president's top in-house adviser on national security concerns.

The president tweeted in support of the decision, calling it "Great", shortly after the ruling was announced.

The US Justice Department said last month it would drop the charges, but US District Judge Emmet Sullivan wanted to scrutinize the decision further.

In seeking to have the case dismissed, the Justice Department said that the FBI had insufficient basis to question Flynn in the first place and that statements he made during the interview were not material to the broader counterintelligence investigation into ties between Russia and the Trump campaign.

The department said that dismissing the case was in the interest of justice, and that it was following the recommendation of a United States attorney who had been appointed by Attorney General William Barr to investigate the handling of the Flynn investigation.

Looks like nothing happened to Flynn. All those drama resulted in nothing and wasted so much money.

So embarrassing to look back on it all now. All of this excitement and fervour about collusion and Russian interference and impeachment leads to absolutely nothing. All talk and no action.

Yes. Kind of embarrassing.

This is where Democrats are falling behind. They are trying to defeat Trump in wrong manner. This method didn't work in 2016 and I doubt it will work in 2020.

Trump is an ideological candidate and a very charismatic one with enough supporters. It is very difficult to defeat him unless you pop up an appealing and balanced candidate (something Democrats haven't done).
