Michael Holding hints at retirement from commentary in 2021

Leave ipl aside for a moment...

Ajit Wadekar a former Indian test captain died while indian team was on a tour to England ,in the next match indian team wore black armbands and this grumpy grandpa says(in the same authoritarian tone ) that Indians are not wearing black armbands because they lost two matches.
Such Disgraceful comments and people wonder why Indians dislike him.

Posters here are just frustrated that India is running cricket these days and don't leave a single opportunity to vomit it anywhere they find some scope

The Indians( not all) see themselves as front men of the BCCI, the IPL is just a tournament and some people dont like it. It was the same with DRS when, Ind after defended the a stupid policy which they eventually ditched and made all their fan boys look total tools.

It's more to do with the fact that Indians are tired of this high horse attitude and hypocrisy. Absolutely loved Sky's panel till IPL flashpoint after which they just kept embarrassing themselves year on year, something English cricketers also admitted.

Please do talk about the menace that is IPL but be fair enough and apply the same opinion at home, that's our message to Sky.

By the way there is no official IPL window. No board is obligated to not play bilaterals during IPL.

Here's the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth:-

IPL is utterly rubbish.

Non Indian and particularly non asian cricketers who play in the IPL are doing it for the money and play in it inspite of it being in India, not because of it. No cricketer is going to admit to disliking T20 because they get to earn a lot of money for something that remotely resembles cricket.

Anyone who likes it is either an extreme indian nationalist or someone who isn't a true fan of cricket.

Meanwhile, Holding is one of the best commentators going around.

END
Ipl is meant for indians if they like it then its mission is accomplished.
Indians are more than enough we don't need fans from other nation.

The bizarre thing is most cricket fans of every other country are very critical of their cricket boards. Even here in England where the ECB is generally a professional and well run board - they receive a torrent of criticism online for a variety of issues.

On PP, we bash PCB 24/7 and often justifiably so.

Many Indian cricket fans online, not all obviously as it's a massive fanbase, however are so quick to defend their board as if its some kind of national institution akin to the Army or like they personally own a stake in it. It's just a sporting body !

How thin skinned is your nationalism if you cannot handle a bit of criticism from other fans, pundits or whoever else.

Why would you hate one of the few and probably only professionally run and well managed institutions in the country. Indian fans are thankful BCCi is nothing like what our Hockey and Olympics administrators are. For that alone, BCCI deserves every bit of support and backing it gets.

Indian fans do not have to become needlessly paranoid about what outsiders think (right or wrong).

PCB is a joke compared to BCCI and this is not even boasting. If we had a board like PCB we wouldn't just be critical of it we would be out in the streets.

Your point is none better illustrated by the Ind fans defending the stupidity of the policy of the DRS and the BCCI realising its stupidity, and changing it, and leaving the fans to look like total tools.

Wonderfully put. Thanks for that.

You know what ??!!! The "Michael Holding Is God and He Must Not Be Questioned" hoards on this board defended that crass and vulgar comment of the old man. You search for the thread and see how they tried to underplay it. Puke worthy.

IPL and short form cricket is just the front face. He absolutely hates Indian Cricket. That is a fact which apologists on this board won't accept just because it is music to their ears. If he was even remotely entertaining as other commies like Hussain, he would be dancing on the aisles of Wankhede and Chinnaswamy singing praises of the boards as he would have got a big fat pay check just like how he got in his playing days from Mr. Packer.

A lot of hate Ind cricket and everything it stands for. Dont confuse that with hatred of Ind people or its team. Indian has dealt with its new found very poorly and its arrogance is galling.

I don't think he ever apologized for this either.

He did not. The apologists told that he need not.

Sunil Gavaskar once made a similarly careless remark about an Aussie cricketer during 2007-08 season I think. He apologized once he was made to realize by Aussie cricketers and media that he had made a blunder.

Gavaskar is connected to the greater cricket eco-system though.

Holding has burned enough bridges - including being banned from commentating by the WICB - so he can say what he likes from the cocoon of the Sky studios where he's the last man standing after the whole lot have come running to the IPL with their tongues hanging out.

He wrote an article how fans were rejoicing at the loss of an ODI series or so by the Aussies before the 2007 World Cup. Ponting in return mentioned how Gavaskar once at being displeased by an LBW decision by the umpire against Dennis Lillee, walked away taking the other batsman in the non strikers end away from the field.

Gavaskar replied that the reason he took away the non strikers batsman away from the field along with him is because he was abused by the Aussies when he was on his way back to the pavilion. He also mentioned how the Aussies would not get away with this type of behaviour outside the cricket field and gave the example of David Hooks who lost his life in a fight that broke out in a bar.
