Mickey Arthur "It didn't seem like an ICC event to be brutally honest"

There was fear etched on the faces of the Pakistan players.

Timid in nature and timid in the way they play their cricket.

I can imagine some of the great Pakistani players of the past would have thrived in such an atmosphere.
They didn't thrive in 1996 or 2011 though.

Aamir Sohail came close in 1996 but then he started thinking too much of himself and got humiliated by Venkatesh Prasad of all people.

Pak also crashed the 1997 Independence Cup in India. The 90s Pak team was another breed altogether - although they somehow messed up in the world cups. The Pak team today is mediocre , capable of the one off upset but generally nowhere in the league of Indian players.

The last ten - eleven years stats are proof. 9 wins for India, 2 for Pakistan with the last one going back six years.

Crowd is not present.

Jai Shri Ram was played.

Visas were not issued.

Ahmedabad was not a good venue.

All these excuses are for losers.

And I know why fans are making them.

They want to deflect the terrible Pakistani performance of 191 all out on a flat pitch vs India.

You can be sure if Pakistan had won the match, this forum would have erupted in a different direction about how Kohli is useless, Bumrah is useless, Rohit is FTB etc.

You cant criticize India in cricket match or their players for winning.

So lets criticize their stadiums, fans, crowds, toilets, hospitality, pitches so Pakistan doesnt look bad for being completely destroyed in the match.
I haven't seen fans from another cricketing nation make all types of silly excuses when their team loses. Pakistani fans are unique in this regard. They'll blame anything and everything under the sun for their team's loss.

They were blaming rain for their loss against India in the Asua Cup calling it a 2 days match. And now since they can't blame rain, they are blaming the lack of Pakistani fans in the stadium, fans booing Babar at the toss, fans chanting religious slogans at Rizwan, and what not!

Arthur is right.

This was not a world cup event. It was an India event.

Compare it to the MCG or some other events on the world stage.

No comparison.

Usually there is at least a contigent of several thousand Pakistani fans.

This had nothing of the sort.

There are some people who want to downplay that.

Yes I agree with them that we didn't lose just because of that. But let's be frank and honest about the conditions for this match also.
So what happened when Ind played Pak at the MCG or Manchester or Centurion or Sydney in world cups?

Pak always had fear of losing to India at the biggest stage. It is silly to hide behind excuses like crowd support and all. Australia best Ind in a bilateral series not long back and they had only a handful of fans attending that. Crowd always goes silent when opposition does well in India as well as in Pakistan.

I wonder - were bollywood songs played when India was playing in Australia and England during the previous world cups?

Also why stop at Dil dil Pakistan, why not British or Australian or Sri Lankan songs?
We're there DJs during 1992 world cup or 1996 world cups ? I don't think there were DJs in 1999 world cup either. Or 2003 World cup.

Is Vande Matram played regularly when Bharat goes to tour other nations especially Pakistan in the past.

The most famous British song is Rule Britannia. I wonder if Brits will be allowed to sing that if they face India in Gujarat?
of course they can play Rule Britannia if they want it. Nobody in India wud have heard that song or understand what it means ! Very few people listen to English music in India - outside of the upper classes

ps: In India the term Britannia is synonymous with a very popular biscuit brand ! We don't associate it with Britain

ICC chairman Greg Barclay said in Mumbai, where he was attending the International Olympic Committee Session, which voted for T20 cricket's inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

Every event that we have, there's always criticisms from various quarters.

Things that perhaps we'll take away and try to work on, try to do better, so this event's only the start. Let's see how the whole thing plays out and we'll go away, and we'll review what could change, what we can do better, how we can improve World Cups and the general offering around cricket.

We will just take it as it plays out, get to the end of the event. I'm satisfied that it will still be an outstanding World Cup.

Lol.. crowd for sure will be ignoring as if Britania milk biscut advertisement!

Mickey has lost the plot just read he warned india that he will met them in the final 🤣🤣🤣

The day Pakistan cricket team/fans stop thinking that everybody in the world is out to get them is the day you will get a consistent performing team. When a coach can throw a statement like this and have fans and media discuss this as one of the reasons is where the cricket in Pakistan is going wrong. Accept that we did not play well and we need improvement and move on. This is how you improve as a cricket team and become professional like other teams in the world. Pakistan has talent which is the reason they keep making the ICC WC knockouts but to be frank the ICC tournaments suit their style of play.

The reason for that is the short tournament style of Champions Trophy and T20 WC is great for Pakistan who are not known for their consistency. Pakistan is a team who can suddenly have 3-4 good days in a tournament which is good enough to win a short ICC event but this format of the WC is not that. You need to play 9 games and win majority of them before even reaching the semis. This is were Pakistan got caught out last time and unless they stop believing this nonsense and improve they are going to face the same.

They are going to play SA & NZ who probably are playing their best cricket. Australia who just got their first win under their belt will be brimming with confidence and England are always difficult to beat in this format. If Pakistan are going into rest of the games thinking all is well and they lost because of DJ or lack or crowd they they are in for a surprise. Their issues are well documented ahead of the WC. The batting is fragile and the bowling attack isn't as good as they thought. Spin is non existent. To win games with so many flaws in the squad they need something special and it will help if they stop believing in this nonsense which the coach is trying to sell to the fans.

True words! It's always a conspiracy against them, and the whole world is against them.
It has become so obvious that even an outsider like Mickey Arthur is starting to use that to deflect his incompetency.

Most people here don’t realize that he was asked this question. He didn’t bring it up himself. He was asked whether the size of the crowd and the blue sea had an impact on the performance. What should his response be? He should lie? He did say that’s not an excuse though with his answer.

Someone should say something about visa situation.
I have friends who bought tickets to India Pakistan game, here in US. They wanted to go but couldn’t go because of the visa situation. Even if you have dual citizenship, you can’t get the visa. He rightly shamed them.

It's easy for them to use it because they know Pakistani fans would consume it instantly.

The denial of visas demonstrates the level of hate, racism, and fascism by the RSS lead government. What is worse is RSS Indians supporting such levels of discrimination and threatening non RSS Indian with the wrath of the government if they speak against it.

Lol about discrimination. Visa is a privilege not a right. any country can deny visa to anybody they feel fit for any reason. India and Pak have gone to war on multiple times as PCB head said, India is a dushman mulk for Pakistanis.

In the normal world, certain conditions have to be met for a Visa, whether business or leisure. When travelling for leisure, conditions like hotel, money, and even tickets for sporting events meet the requirements. Just ask the millions of Indians who apply for a visa to a better life.

Only in India is race and ethnicity a prerequisite and basis for denying a visa, oh and Isreal too.

Save the dushman mulk stuff, India could have point blank refused to play against Pakistan, but RSS with Jay Shah, need the votes for 2024 general election, and BCCI need the money.

Maybe you have a point. But then the question to ask is why did not Pakistan refuse instead?

Have watched many vlogs of this match… crowd was enjoying the game and not opposing Pakistan as picturised by Mickey….. the game was played in sporting spirit… none of the Pakistan player looked troubled with crowd behaviour rather than their own batting… therefore the plot of team management revealed and it was just to hide from humiliating defeat which was correctly pointed by many Pakistani players…

If the game wasn’t played in good spirit, then Babar wouldn’t have asked T-shirt from King Kohli

Arthur is an usual cry baby. Better he focus on how to play spin bowling rather than talking nonsense.
Surely you're not going to play finals against India with this timid and soft team.

Sreesanth at Arthur's ‘see you in World Cup final’ remark said:

“Mickey Arthur said we’ll meet in the final. I don’t think Pakistan can ever beat India in an ICC trophy or in any other event considering the team they have. Even our C team can beat Pakistan’s main XI. Make an IPL XI of players who are not playing, even they can defeat the Pakistan team,”
“Pakistan cannot even dream of playing in such a big stadium. We gave them a chance, but if you play like that, you won’t get such chances again,”

OK Mickey.

What more excuse will you have for another pathetic show?

The same story since he took over PAK cricket.

To be honest, it didn't seem like we were playing at Chennai. We are used to Chennai giving Pakistan standing ovations. But seeing them do that for Afghanistan didn't feel like this was a cricket match to be brutally honest.

- Mickey Arthur, perhaps

I wonder if the DJ can remix a "Dil Dil Afghanistan" song.

Why are they always assuming south India is different from north. We are United whether Pakistani believe it or not. Why would Chennai give standing ovation to Pakistanis, what have they shown to deserve it. Arthur seems completely delusional or playing for his fan boys back in Pakistan. Afghans showed common sense and grit till the end. They deserve the victory lap.

To be honest I was supposed to coach virtually from Teams, but BCCI cut the Internet at the hotel, hence I was in yhe dug out.

Plans was stay in the hotel and play Dil Dil Pakistan for boys on Teams.....

The electrifying atmosphere in the stands, with 'Dil Dil Pakistan' playing once again, is surely fueling our winning spirit tonight

Afg might have been called giant killers when they defeated England a few weeks back. But that term is no longer applicable as they have added the scalps of two more high-profile sides and at this stage, are the second-best Asian team in the tournament.
What is their song?

Tomorrow, if Australia loses the final against India in Ahmedabad, will the Australian coach also say this? Lol

Dil Dil Pakistan playing at the Optus Stadium in Perth...

Former Pakistan Team director Mickey Arthur said during an interview with a sports website:

"It was extremely tough not having any Pakistan support. The one thing that really drives the Pakistan team is the incredible support they receive at grounds and hotels."

"Here we never had that, and that was quite tough in a World Cup, particularly for the players."

It just shows that pak cricket team is mentally weak and can't handle pressure. If Rohit or dravid ever say something like this - I would be so pissed. Aus won the WC final with 99.5% of the supporters in the stadium cheering for ind. So all this Mickey Arthur talk is just baloney

The support was pretty good in south Indian stadiums. Sure its not the same as having Pakistanis present but they got plenty of backing in some stadiums.
