What's new

Mickey Arthur to be consultant team director, Grant Bradburn Head Coach & Morne Morkel bowling coach

Given these appointments were done by Sethi - what happens to Mickey and Morne etc now?

Well, unless the PCB revisit the desire to have a foreign coach, Mickey et al is the best Pakistan can get.
Which sensible, successful foreign coach would possible join the continual farce that is the PCB.

If Zaka was to become Chairman then I doubt he'll cancel the agreed contracts straight away.

I'm sure there could be clauses where if the contracts are cancelled they'd have to be paid up.

Sethi and his Teams coach. And people criticise me for being harsh. Mickey or any other coach will not make any difference to the PK team. If it is to get better, it will have to come from Babar, but Babar is defensive by nature.

This is exactly why Mickey insisted on retaining his Derbyshire post. The word of a Pakistani official means nothing and the clown show that is Pakistani politics means things can change at the drop of a hat.

However I expect Zaka to retain the current setup. He appointed a foreign coach Dav Whatmore in 2012.

They will honour the contract with Mickey but I expect the relationship with Zaka to be a frosty one, especially if Pakistan don't win.

The revolving door of Chairmen PCB means that you would either have to be mad to want to work for PCB as a coach, have your fingers in a lot of pies or have a good lawyer who ensures your contract covers all bases.

Time has proven Mickey to be smart to insist on retaining his Derbyshire job. Mickey complained about the manner in which he was let go in 2019 where Ehsan Mani, Wasim Khan promised to offer him a fresh 2 year contract and the PTI government ordered the PCB to let him go at the last minute, the PCB went back on their word with Mickey and left him high and dry.

Zaka Ashraf apparently is not very keen on the present coaching staff and team managers i.e. Rehan Ahmed. A lot of ex cricketers like Aamir Sohail and others have suddenly become very active and they have informed their friends in the media that they have received job offers in the PCB already.

Can't see how Pakistan can be a strong cricketing nation again given the mismanagement, volatility and continuous mess they always find themselves in.

Grant Bradburn in a presser

"We are very clear around our starting XI; we are very clear around our batting approach, the way we want to approach the game. We are very clear around how we want to attack the game, particularly in the middle overs.

"So we believe that Pakistan hasn't been successful in the middle overs as well as we should be, and as you can see behind me, we are working hard on developing some skills to really attack that middle over period with some hostility not only with the bat but with the ball and with our field placings as well."

"So we want to take wickets through that period, we want to score runs through that period, and we want to take it deep into the 40th over with lots of wickets in hand when we are batting"

"You saw the way the boys played in Sri Lanka during the Test series, and you can see the way they are playing here right now. So they are looking to play in an aggressive style, they are looking to use their skills, and that's exactly what I'll be demanding and what Mickey will be demanding that they bring out to the middle in Hambantota early next week"

Morne Morkel in an interview:

“For me it’s a pleasure to work with these guys. It’s important to keep on focusing and working hard on the basics. We’re having a lot of fun and that’s why we’re executing as well,” said Morkel.

“We sat down before the Asia Cup and identified certain goals that we want to achieve. World Cup is the main goal we’re focusing on. We’re focused on arriving in India with everyone in a good space. Making a statement against quality teams is important,” Morkel added.

“I just make sure that the guys keep that high standard during training, and with the skills that they’ve got, it makes my job easier. Individually, they’ve all stepped up. Rauf bowled beautifully against Bangladesh in tough conditions. Shaheen’s opening spell against India was incredible. Naseem plays the supporting role from the other end. So, as a core bowling unit we’re doing really well,”
