Which Test Series ( which has featured Sub Continent Teams outside Asia ) has turned out to be more competitive in recent History.
Misbah’s Men went to England in 2016 and against all expectations managed to draw the Series. They could have even won, had they not choked at Edgbaston. It was expected to be 4-0 whitewash but it never happened.
Similarly Virat Kohli’s men narrowly lost in South Africa 2-1. Again on bouncy pitches it was expected 3-0 whitewash but 2-1 looks loss better than 3-0.

Many expected India to win, Misbah's team punched above their weight with inspired performance, so Misbah hands down. India will be disappointed with the final result

We almost won the series 3-1. Almost.

But India were close in their 1-2 loss as well.

I'll take Team Misbah's effort tho. Everyone was saying that Pakistan will lose 0-4 :botham but Pakistan showed up and drew a very tough series.

2-2 will be more competitive than 1-2. Why even discuss this if you are talking about series?

As far as individual tests goes, I will take SA-Ind series.

India's utter lack of preparation and pathetic justification for it made sure India got the deserved result. Hardwork always pays off. Didn't see any hardwork from Indians except bowlers. They played in Jet lag.

Both are nothing to brag about. Sri Lanka's 2014 series win in England is the best accomplishment of an Asian team in Tests overseas this decade. SA were woeful in the field in the 3rd Test else it would have been 3-0. 240 was a monster chase on the 3rd Test pitch.

Pakistan could have won the England series 2-1 (had to play out Edgebaston final day).

India could have won SA series atleast 2-1. In India's case, it's more painful cos we lost because of external factors mostly (our catching was woeful but external factors were even worse).

India was woeful in the first two tests.else it would have been 3-0 india. Your cringeworthy biased comments are geting old.

It's very challenging for an asian team to draw or win a 4 match series in England, so I rate that a lot more personally

1-2 is a fair result considering our shenanigans.

I am glad we won the last test.

Fixed for truth.

What external factors? Our selections lacked any sense.Batsman bar Kohli underperformed

Can't blame toss and all when we ourselves do things wrong

I meant external factors as in events happening outside the field. Lack of preparation and selections.

The English side has beaten southafrica home and away .
That side had won every series at home .
Is this even a legit question ?

No not during that cycle they hadnt .
Pakistan was the only trophy remaining and Pak retained it.

SL beat Eng in 2014 and that series was in 2016. If 2 years is not a same cycle then there is only 1 other series Eng played at home. No too sure what you are talking about....

Captaincy was the difference IMO. Misbah wasnt any extraordinary batsmen but excellent captain.

Honestly I think a loss of 2-1 in sa is harder. cant remember the last team an asian side won a test series in sa. unlike england. plus i felt we should have won that eng series we threw one of the games away all we has to do is bat it out. Was pretty disappointed by the drawn series, it was ours for the taking.

I dont see us winning a single test in SA. I expected an easy 3-0 by sa against india (and pak which they did) while in england i expected pak to be competitive which they were. Maybe a test won due to a spin heavy pitch being served up but India beat SA on a bouncy pitch which is pretty good.

2-2 (draw) is better than a 2-1 result (loss).

Plus India had a much better team than Pakistan. India were fancied here but Pakistan were huge underdogs.

Lanka won a test there a few years ago IIRC.

ya on a spin friendly pitch. That was the test herath spun them to victory? Think india’s won a test in the past in a similar manner too, I dont remember an asian side being that competitive in SA for a long time. even though i do think sa are weaker than before.

Both of them are not. England is Pakistan's hunting ground. No surprise beating England there.
and 2-1 with victory on a minefield bowling out last team is no biggie, let alone the fact that they lost series. It wasn't a green one where swing and pace could decide the match, it had variable bounce making it difficult for last team to play it out.

Pakistan winning tomorrow should be counted as a bigger or more or the one with more impact.

South Africa is a very tough side at home, not easy to win a single test match there especially for a SC side. Kohli has done the impossible. Pakistan has not won a single test match there since 2006

Not impossible at all. Just need to acclimatise and play the right combination to beat them. They don't have the batting these days though the pace attack is as good as ever.

INDIAn team only have themselves to blame for not winning the series.. Poor selection and lack of proper conditioning camp in SA are the main reasons.. This was the best chance to win a series in SA, hopefully we don’t repeat same mistake in england where we should win the series if we don’t commit same mistake..

Yeah Pakistan has only played 3 Tests there since that 2006 series.

India have been good, they deserve another go in this test series to make it 2-2. I think in both games they have taken South Africa to the edge, and were clearly the better side in the third game.
Unforunate they only had 3 test matches. Did much better than many previous touring Indian sides.

We actually played very well and if a couple of things would have clicked it would have easily been 3-1. I personally think that we gifted ENG the 2-2 rather than them earning it.

Lets say both Asian teams got the MORAL victory.
Winning a test in SA looks the MAX an asian team can achieve...

Easily Misbah. Pakistan punched above their weight though England is a happy hunting ground for Asian teams (relatively).

Kohli messed up an Asian team's best chance to win a series in SA with biased selections.

Pakistanis will say ENg pak series,Indians will say SA Ind
As a pakistani I will say Ind SA series was better, Englnd have not really been winning that much at home if you look closely since they started focusing more on T20 and ODI. They drew a home series to a very weak Sri lanka side, were lucky to draw 1-1 against NZ because of Stokes, and Pakistan should have won 2-1 but because ppl need to accept the fact that Misbah had no ability to inspire his team because he never wanted them to aim high, getting a draw when you can win was always good enough for Misbah. Expect India to kick on from this series and do well in Oz and England, What did Pak do in NZ and Aus

Is this even a serious question? A series draw away against a very good team or a series loss away against a very good team? Come on man. Hands down the 2-2 draw and even if I was the most biased Indian supporter I would still say the 2-2 draw.

Indian series because Pakistan got easier conditions and they did not have to face full strength English team. Moreover, the 2nd test between England and Pakistan was completely one sided.

India lost the series and then won a dead rubber. In case anyone's forgetting...

This is not a comparison worth making.

I think OP is asking other factors to be taken into account rather than just the scoreline.
