What's new

Misbah-ul-Haq not to take role as mentor for Islamabad United, picked by Peshawar Zalmi for PSL 4

Misbah's selfishness personified. Got kicked out of the Pakistan T-20 team in 2012, went to Zaka Ashraf's house and raised a sissy fit. Got benched by Shakib in the BPL in 2015 because he saw Misbah's selfish 50's for what they are and he raised a sissy fit about never playing in the BPL again. Got kicked out of the Pakistani test team in 2017 and complained in the media about the PCB forcing him out. Now IU told him very politely to give up being a player and take on a mentor role behind the scenes and he throws a sissy fit and decides to put himself in the draft instead.

And he is still hogging a spot in domestic cricket ahead of a more deserving younger player. The selfishness of this man knows no bounds.

Do you blame him? The guy practically got his run in cricket at the age of 33. It’s like a man going through a late adolescence. His time to have fun and play Was spent in the wilderness of the domestic scene, when he got his chance to shine he wants to saturate it to the maximum. Unfortunately age is just a number for him but he really looks past it now.

Can still be a decent player at Premier league standard in club cricket

He has had ample time to maximize his earnings in Cricket and has probably made way than other domestic cricketers. Besides he has enough experience and reputation to earn more as a commentator, pundit, coach, manager, mentor. No excuse for him to desperately hog a position in domestic cricket anymore.

I cannot imagine Misbah taking this decision without an indication from some franchise. It would be career 'suicide'

True. May have agreed a back door deal.

Misbah going out on his shield mA like a man having bought so much joy to Pakistan cricket, ignore the little insecure girls Savak

A kamikaze team like LQ could use a survivor like Misbah. Not only for his calmness he brings but also so that they do not self destruct in the middle overs.

Shouldn't bat higher than 6/7 otherwise he will waste a lot deliveries.

Interesting development. You got to admire though the endless passion Misbah has in this age. There has never been any doubt on his fitness. Age is just a number.

Whatever team grabs him will have a great chance of winning the tournament.

Guy's the best PSL strategist, will do better than the likes of Afridi.

If LQ grab him, their black days are finally gonna be over. They'll see and taste what victory feels like!

Finally.

And the haters like Savak will continue to burn, like they have been since 2012.

Will be fun.

:misbah

It’s an awful decision, hopefully nobody signs him
It’s time to go

On a side note. I am not really upset or burning. Atleast misbah is not batting for Pakistan anymore. He can do whatever he wants.

Lol the guy will jump from franchise to franchise till the age 50

A dollar every time Savak said kicked out in this thread would have made me a millionaire.

One of the teams must have made him an offer for sure. He put his hat in the ring because he knows he will be selected.

Which would be a shame because he brings nothing to the table as a player alone. Those who are saying he is a strategist should know that he could have done the same in the role of a coach / mentor /management member. As a batsman, he brings nothing but unending misery.

Perhaps he thinks that he didnt fail properly last time because of his injury and wants to fail adequately this time around to call it a day.

He must have made a deal with some franchises behind the scenes. Bold decision by IU too to categorically mention that they won't pick him in the draft. Misbah was never selfless as his cheerleaders always claimed him to be, he was the opposite.

Exactly he must have had a deal otherwise he wouldn't have risked the mentor role.

Don't like this decision by Misbah.

Cannot keep playing forever. He should have moved on with the coaching role.

I'm one of Misbah's biggest fan and any team which gets him will definitely be richer for the good. I might be wrong on this but I believe Misbah has taken the decision because he wants to raise money for his hospital and other social endeavors. Being a player will get him more money than being a mentor.

That is the most likeliest reason.

I suspect he will play a few games and then mentor the rest of the tourney from the dressing room :najam

Probably one of the factors.

If it is LQ indeed, then the biggest factor would be that LQ wants a victory.

They've never won any PSL edition so far.

Misbah is the right man to have them taste their first win. Will do well as a player and on field support to any captain.

LQ supporters, be happy.

The PSL is yours!

The guy overstayed his welcome at the international level, it's only natural he'll do the same at the domestic too.

What if IU picks him in the draft and benchs him entire season to teach him a lesson?

Bad decision. If he's up as a player then he must have plans with a team. (I hope it's not Lahore). If he dosen't get picked it will be a shame for him.

PSL should have its 6th team renamed as Uncles XI and Misbah should be made their captain.

Exactly

Misbah would be better suited doing an ICC level 3 coaching qualification to maximise his cricketing potential and look to manage a side somewhere.

The guy is the kind of person who would be a great Director of Cricket

Agreed.

Man suddenly im excited about PSL again.

Cant wait for the drafts now

I've sent a message to the LQ guys to sign Misbah......

Misbah for LQ actually makes sense cause they need a calm presence in their team. I hope they sign him.

Heard that PZ will sign him.

An IU fan whilst I appreciate what he did for us , it was time to move on as he wasn't contributing with the bat.

)):)) :)

Is that fair? Why not let the market forces decide whether he gets picked or not?

Why on earth would you recommend a team to buy a 45 year old who finished PSL 2018 with a marvellous SR of 75.

In addition it sets such a bad precedent for the future like we've already seen Abdul Razzaq making a return and we'll see the same with the likes of Hafeez, Shoaib Malik and etc. The current crop of players will then follow suit.

It's a disgrace and then people wonder why our cricket is in such turmoil...

Misbah has only humiliated himself in this episode.

His absence will make no difference to the fortunes of IU going forward - after all he wasn't needed once he was injured which actually was a blessing in disguise since he couldn't even manage close to a run a ball from the matches he played.

LQ need a steady, cool and calm head to lead them and take them to the next level.

If he was able to maintain an average SR of 110-115 at least fair enough but batting at a SR of 75 is the opposite of steady, cool and calm. In fact it is just as destructive as getting out for a duck first ball.

LQ need a steady, cool and calm head to lead them and take them to the next level.

Again I repeat, why not let the market forces of Demand/Supply dictate whether Misbah gets picked up by the LQ rather than requesting for a favor.

Yes he was also selecting oldies over the younger talent. Now with him gone , Deano will select the young players and ditch the oldies.

Now i have to get a Zalmi shirt.

KHAPAL TEAM PESHAWAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hoping that he would be made captain now

Smart move by PZ and IU may regret their decision to let him go.

im surprised by IU.

They ended up picking up Ian Bell and yet dropped Misbah.

As a captain Misbah would had been more effective at IU because there he was getting his team.

Yes, for Zalmi getting this guy was a really smart move, but if Misbah had some say in the selections it could had been better.

In zalmi Misbah wont have his say in team selection like he did in IU

So United dropped Misbah for Ian Bell? Although Misbah does nothing with the bat but tactically he understands his opponents very well, especially in the PSL. Suicidal move by IU, Misbah did not deserve to be dropped if he was going to be replaced by Ian Bell.

So Misbah had it all planned and arranged. He knew what he was doing lol.

Misbah will always have my respect, but his playing days are over and IU were absolutely right in their decision not to retain him as a player.

If Misbah felt aggrieved at their decision, he was more than welcome to join the draft and prove IU wrong. The fact he didn't speaks volumes.

Looks like Misbah read my post and PZ fell for it :)))

Really? I have a lot of respect for Misbah but it actually made me sad watching him bat last year (especially against pace). Did not look like a fair fight and even Tymal Mills looked embarrassed at times.

Stongly disagree with Saj.

Misbah is 45 freaking years old, and is a slow player on top of that.

I think Hafeez and Harris were excellent signings and can go a few seasons. Misbah is finished I’m afraid

Will be priceless if misbah warms the bench for PZ after the usual mohali type knocks from him.

Misbah had shambolic form for the previous two seasons.I don't understand why any team in the right mind will select him... he's declined at a rate of knots in the shortest format

Lol Misbah will jump from Franchise to Franchise, might even up as a supplementary pick before he goes unpicked in the draft

This is the same league that supports nepotism, of course they're going to have some brain dead signings here and there as well.

A 46 year old member of cricket board committee manged to get himself selected in Zalmi at the cost of a youngster, nothing new about this man who always kept himself ahead of Pakistan cricket but no wonder Pakistan cricket is heading to wrong direction, shameful.

Misbah in a TV interview with GNN:

"When I go to Zalmi, my focus will be to help the youngsters, that's my main role. Playing role is secondary. If I'm needed, that's fine but that is not my main role. Main role is to help out and that's the initial discussion I had. However, they felt they might need my services (as a player) so I thought OK. I feel that when you go into coaching and you're outside the ground, you can't impact and teach the youngsters in the same way as you can when you're with them, playing alongside them in the ground or in practice sessions with them"

Lol he isn't going to teach anyone anything apart from playing defensively and thinking negatively from any situation.

He could have easily played the same role with Islamabad United and he showed his Ehsaan Faramosh nature by abandoning them when they stood by him through thick and skin in the first three PSL seasons

Lol, what?
So Zalmi have wasted a diamond spot on a coach. :genius

Also, they might be called Zalmis but PZ's squad is filled with "seniors" so not sure which "youngsters" he is planning on helping.

Misbah is addicted to playing cricket. He cant seem to understand that its time to call it quits.

First people are mad that he'll take some 'youngster's spot', and then when he says his primary role will be to educate the squad, they say he'll ruin them with defensive technique.

Explain how Islamabad United won twice then. He was captain.

Taking a spot of a youngster, selfish move...

You really have a tricky mindset, don't you?

Stop this nonsense.

He just won his team 2 tournament titles in the PSL. And is all set to make Zalmi win. It's a private cricket league and has nothing to do with 'but but but develop only youngsteers'.

I don't see you crying over people like Luke Ronchi playing, in fact 90% of the retired cricketers in the league.

It is, in fact, a retired players league.

He'll keep rocking and winning tournament titles - and haters will keep moaning.

Which of the retired players are 45 year old?

Which of the retired players are 45 year old?

Irrelevant. He wanted "youngsta beauties" in the teams so that they can be picked for Pak.

But, all the teams are full of retired players which are blocking youngsters. Need to cry over all of them then, not just one person.

Pvt leagues don't work like that.
