What's new

Misbah-ul-Haq not to take role as mentor for Islamabad United, picked by Peshawar Zalmi for PSL 4

Being from Peshawar won't be supporting them due to this grandad. Hopefully he will be warming the bench.

Sammy is a very good captain himself. So don't see the use of Misbah as its not worth carrying him in the team for a bit of advice.

Misbah won't have an impact as a batsmen . Sammy is a successful T20 captain so I don't see why would he seek advice from Misbah?

I love Misbah but he really should have moved on. I have no issues with him taking a coaching role or administration role. But his playing days should be over.

So he still wants to play 20/20, this should really be his last year as a player, don't want to see players in late 40 still playing PSL.

Misbah in a TV interview with GNN:

"When I go to Zalmi, my focus will be to help the youngsters, that's my main role. Playing role is secondary. If I'm needed, that's fine but that is not my main role. Main role is to help out and that's the initial discussion I had. However, they felt they might need my services (as a player) so I thought OK. I feel that when you go into coaching and you're outside the ground, you can't impact and teach the youngsters in the same way as you can when you're with them, playing alongside them in the ground or in practice sessions with them"

Excuses have started already

So Misbah wanted to help youngsters in Peshawar Zalmi but found it offensive to do so in Islamabad United which had stood by him and backed him to the tilt?

Wow Misbah is still playing T20 cricket even at his age.

And the same old story, he's the only one actually able to bat and rescuing the team from a collapse

Your cricketing intelligence needs a salute.

I know how much you were praying for Misbah to fail.

Poor you, he's yet again actually trying to make his team win where everyone else is failing.

So a 45 year old is teaching others how to bat!

Story of Misbah's life and a true rescue 1122 for Pakistan cricket.

Take back my comments re Misbah - he's just shown us that even at this age the guy can still play a valuable innings.

Yes I’m sure they’re absolutely devestated after their opening match which they won chasing a big score where Misbah has often been a liability and then seeing Peshawar utilising Misbah to reach a below par total which will be chased down easily unless there’s a huge collapse.

Bro if u have been following isb united you would had known that the team management were in a ca0taincy dilemma.

They dropped misbah, replaced him with ian bell, and had no idea who to make captain.

Sami being made captain was a last minute call.

I do follow them, they’re actually the team I support. I was born in Rawal Pindi so it’s geographically the closest team. But then I’ve become more of a fan due to how many chances they give to youngsters compared to other franchises.

Misbah is a great man manager, very good overall captain and is someone you definitely want around the younger guys. However as a player, he absolutely should not be playing. Islamabad out of respect played him last season even though he was very average, and then got injured towards the business end of the tournament. This showed them that the younger players actually stood up without Misbah the player. So they respectfully offered him a role in the administration.

Misbah turned this down and made a deal with Zalmi. Good for him and good for Zalmi who got what they wanted.

I don’t think Islamabad will have any regrets. As for Ian Bell. As mentioned, they have a squad built around many youngsters. They wanted to add someone experienced. In this they manage to get Bell who is an experienced international player, classical reliable batsman and someone who has actually done extremely well in the last English T20 tournament. He is essentially what Misbah was in the first PSL - an experienced international steady batsman at the end of his career who will be decent in leagues and the younger players can bat around. (I guess he wasn’t needed in the first match).

Lol at Misbah's ** excuses of wanting to help youngsters at Peshawar Zalmi, he could easily have done the same with Islamabad United and was offered the same opportunity by Islamabad United but he in true Ehsan Faramosh style after all they did for him, abandoned them.
