Relax, he had a decent career as a test captain and despite his pragmatic tendencies served the country well as a stodgy middle order bat in Test Cricket. His one day and t20 approaches can't be defended.

That's not reflective of his coaching abilities, which have not proved effective.

So no, I'm not taking the Mick. Instead of getting worked up, understand the point of my post I.e. a decent player without experience doesn't necessarily make a decent coach

PCB need to get a proper end of tour analysis from Misbah, not wishy washy answers.

PCB need proper plans from him on each player, strengths, weaknesses, concerns etc. This is how the top teams operate.

The PCB is entitled to receive answers to the following questions:

1. You inherited a Test team with all but 3 players aged in their twenties. Why does the Test team now have only 2 players - Rizwan and Babar - aged between 21 and 30?

2. Why have you retained Asad Shafiq and Azhar Ali in the Test team, when their performances for the last 2 years do not justify that?

3. Why did you appoint a failing 34 year old as the Captain, when players the same age such as Alastair Cook and AB De Villiers retired years ago?

4. Yasir Shah averages 55.81 with the ball in SENA after 15 Tests. Why do you continue to sacrifice a fourth quick outside Asia when his record as the fourth bowler in SENA is so much worse than Hasan Ali (34.20) or Faheem Ashraf (26.03)?

5. You needed a new opener and another middle-order batsman. Why did you pick Abid Ali (aged 32) ahead of Sami Aslam (aged 25), and why did you pick Fawad Alam (aged 34) when you already have so many ageing batsmen?

6. You had 10 weeks on tour in a biosecure bubble and the luxury of a 29 man squad. Why did you take 11 players in their thirties when you could have given emerging youngsters 10 weeks in the squad?

7. Please justify selecting Kashif Bhatti (34) ahead of Zafar Gohar (25).

8. Please justify taking Imran Khan (32), Sohail Khan (36) and Musa Khan (18) ahead of Ehsan Adil (27) and Sameen Gul (21) who outperformed them in domestic cricket.

9. It was obvious in the last warm-up that Mohammad Abbas couldn't actually get people out - he was just very economical. Why was the pace attack left between him, a 20 year old and a 19 year old?

10. Why do you refuse to pick a pace bowling all-rounder in SENA?

Some excellent questions.

The only one I disagree on is in relation to Sami Aslam's inclusion. I just don't think he'll recover from that Australia tour. His sub-40 SR (after 13 tests) doesn't fill me with much confidence either.

He's been pushed out and has not resigned. He was told if you don't walk away from the Chief Selector role you will lose both jobs.

Don't see what Misbah is gaining from coaching a deeply mediocre team like Pakistan. Its not like he is being paid in the millions.

It's better than being out of a job or just coaching a domestic team.

Remember Misbah had asked for the same salary as Mickey Arthur was receiving when he was head coach of Pakistan.

So Misbah has probably given up the lesser salary which was the one for chief selector.

They should have gotten rid of him altogether!

This is inevitable and now only a matter of time.

Why waste more resources on him? Haven't we already seen it all?
 
What happened to Misbah-ul-Haq ?

Once upon a time this fella commanded respect all around the world even if he was a bit polarising at home. He would go on to establish UAE as a fortress before taking Pakistan to no.1 in Tests for the first time in their history. Outside the pitch he came across as an intelligent and well spoken gentleman who helped restore Pakistan’s image positively after the spot fixing crisis.

But...he seems to have lost the plot completely since becoming chief selector and coach of Pakistan, no longer is he cool, calm and collected; he often gets his knickers in a twist super quick and throws his toys out the pram frequently. The man lacks vision and a plan, Pakistan are a bunch of headless chicken under him and this couldn’t be more true when emotion primarily drive his decisions. One could say potentially he has become mad with power, you wouldn’t be wrong to call him Misbah ul Hitler, the circumstances in which he replaced the previous coach was also rather dubious and I for one just think he is simply is not qualified for the job and is now being severely exposed. One could potentially say he may have ruined his own legacy and is now a national / global disgrace, such a shame; I feel for Pakistan fans.

What are your thoughts ?

What happened to Misbah ?
 
Misbah was never equipped to take on such huge responsibility so early in his non-playing career. Very few people would be.
 
Misbah is finally tired of being everyone’s problem. No wonder he is getting cranky.

He must have a lot of patience to withstand the amount of criticism that he has received from all quartets over the last decade.

Misbah has indeed made and does make a lot of mistakes, but the problem is that Pakistani fans are also the most delusional in the world, and they have convinced themselves that Misbah stands between Pakistan cricket and success.

Even if Misbah vanishes, Pakistan will remain the poster boy of mediocrity because we have no talent, no skill and no mentality.

Misbah is part of the problem but not the problem.

True, but even so when you look at how long he lasted as captain for Pakistan / had some success and also a fella who was more educated then the common person in the Pakistan set up (Degree is I believe Math/Physics) you potentially could be forgiven for assuming he wouldn’t have failed as badly as he has. Additionally on an emotional and mental level Misbah seems to have lost the plot completely to which I would have thought would have been a bit out of character for him, he generally use to come across as a calm individual who had a bit of a plan regardless of what you thought of it.

Coaching Pakistan I understand is arguably the toughest job in the world and really tests you on every level but even then Misbah has turned into a monster not everyone saw coming going by his previous personality. [MENTION=53290]Markhor[/MENTION]

I get that view of yours on how Pak is doomed regardless but Misbah changed when he came into power, he is no longer the personality I remembered as captain and he has been this way since become the Chief/Coach, I find that a little surprising despite how tough his job is

Yep. Not Misbah's fault - its the PCB who gave him the most powerful management position in Pakistan cricket, basically on a whim

What else did you expect from someone with no experience as selector or coach. Its not gully mohalla cricket, need proper trained professionals in critical positions.
 
For once I agree with Mamoon that the Pakistani fans are the most delusional in the world. There is a talent in Pakistan but the problem is they are being wasted in favor of likes and dislikes, also they do not have resources to develop the talent, enhances their skills and managing the talent, as such many talented players were destroyed. Captains and team management have their own agenda for allowing and protecting their friends in the team. If you pressurize or select certain players from domestic performer then they mistreat them or introduce at wrong timings and label them with some faults in them and you will not see those players again. Champion of all these mall practices is Misbha and Waqar Younus (Biggest Culprit).

You can see that with our resources in terms of players

But we won't be as bad as we are under
He doesn't even use the limited resources properly and there doesn't seem to be a vision it's all gimicky

The PCB weren't happy with the team selections and the outcome and performance in the 1st Test in England.

I'm pretty sure they are going to be pretty annoyed at the performances in the Test series too if Pakistan lose 2-0.

The heat continues to be turned up on Misbah.
 
Saj, isn't this why there is a cricket committee? I thought one of their objectives was to provide feedback to the PCB on the team's performance, selection etc. Couldn't they have provided their input prior to the NZ squad selection?
 
This was always expected of him. Even as a captain he was similar. Nothing has changed its just Misbah fans are getting a reality check.

Majority of your questions i agree with and some i don't. I think biggest question is the captaincy appointment of Azhar after 12 innings of him not scoring a 50 and the selection of Haris Sohail in this series (is he unfit? Did you know he was unfit? Why did he not play the practise game? etc). Haris Sohail was a big question mark for me.

Apparently the Cricket Committee are demanding answers from the PCB and want to urgently meet the team's coaching staff immediately when they arrive back in Pakistan

Misbah is the poster boy for the era where our cricket went rock bottom.
 
misbah has his issues but at least you know what he stands for, defensive, attritional cricket, even if you dont agree with it. waqar is a much bigger problem, has so little impact you cannot even identify what hes done wrong.

at this rate i honestly believe the pak team would be better without a bowling coach, at least it would force bowlers to think for themselves, it cant be any worse than whats happening right now.

Whatever happens Waqar and Misbah are not going anywhere..

Misbah selected the team, changed captains and coached the team for a year now.. He is solely responsible for the state of cricket on display..

The hypocrisy is galling. When Mickey was evaluated by the Cricket Committee after the World Cup, the panel including Misbah criticised him for supposedly picking unfit players.

This was based on little more than media gossip.

Now Misbah is selecting unfit players himself.
 
Cricket Committee only has power to advise, final decision rests with Mani and Wasim.
 
Misbah sent the youngsters Naseem and Gohar to answer the press. They looked so nervous.
How spineless can the team management and seniors be?? That was an appalling show of cowardice.

My opinions might be bias but I would lay off the selection of some players that have just come into the fold. The problem is that we are too quick to go change happy and we don't value patience, changes must be done in a gradual way and should not be done hastily. Pakistan should look to make changes in the next series but don't drop lots of people.

Exactly. Picking Zafar over Yasir is the perfect example. Yasir has been underperforming for a while now. But by replacing him mid-series we actually made things worse for ourselves. He was the one to dismiss Williamson in the first test, Zafar had no shot at it. Changes are find and good but, particularly in test cricket, need to be very calculated and deliberated. Definitely not jazbati.

Yep you have to look at the positives and just say are we right in dropping him? Small changes on each tour, no unnecessary dropping of all players. You have to look at the real concerns and the real concerns within this team were Haris Sohail, Shan Masood and Naseem Shah for a start (the rest you kinda gotta forgive and say so and so did ok). 3 changes within a team is more than enough in my view and so start with that.

I really don't understand what Misbah did all day as a selector, I'm sorry but it's the easiest job in the world. Big pay for very little work.

Just to be fair to Misbah picking Rizwan over Sarfaraz and dropping Asad Shafiq are two brave but impressive decisions. I would also look at Abbas and his role I dont think he deserves a leadership role in this attack. But yeah those 4 are really the only ones need to be looked at the rest are somewhat stable for now. Hassan Ali and this Kamran Ghulam guy have impressed so maybe we have that to look forward to.

Honestly its a real double edged sword in Pak cricket. I am bitterly disappointed in Haris lack of fitness on this tour but you just know he will dominate this NZ team in home conditions. What to do...:)

Some of his decisions have been brave but they've come waaay too late, he's now starting to make somewhat competent decisions. Although Kamran has done well i'd like to trial Saud Shakeel who did well previous season and this season.

Absolutely agreed. It is an absolute disgrace. Just feel for Naseem after that press conference. It was hard to watch :(

It is because of Butt's ingenuity that Misbah on SOS, was airlifted as a captain by Ijaz Butt.
If Butt hadn't done what he did, we wouldn't have had to contend with the Misbah era, because the latter very famously, was ready to quit cricket altogether in 2009.

Misbah would've got the job anyway at some point which is what I'm trying to explain.

Salman Butt was utterly useless as a batsman and captain himself even leaving fixing aside. He was only made to look half-decent because Asif and Amir swung the Dukes ball miles in a damp English summer.

He would not have lasted long.

The notion that Pakistan would not have become a mediocre team without Misbah appearing as a central figure is yet another delusional nonsense by deluded cheerleaders.

Our fans will latch onto anything to shy away from the bitter truth, and the bitter truth is we are simply not good enough.

Not talented enough, not skilled enough and not intelligent enough. Pakistan cricket stinks of mediocrity and it is not because of Misbah alone.

He is part of the problem but not the problem.
 
has he not been sacked yet? I saw a news clip that said he had been sacked or was that typical Pakistani media jumping the gun as usual??

You're being a bit harsh, he was only 25 at the time (officially) so could have improved further. Bashed India in India, Eden Gardens no less which is always great from a Pakistan fans perspective. In fact, he had quite a good record against them with impact.

There's a chance Misbah wouldn't have arrived on the scene if the spot fixing scandal didn't happen. Misbah was already quite aged by then and Butt would still be captain and in the team.

Are you trying to convince others or yourself by repeating the same thing over and over again. Everyone gets it, man. No one is saying that Pak will become world beaters just like that. But do save us the duplicate posts every freakin' day!
 
Reports saying that Gary Kirsten has declined and Andy flower has said he needs time to think.

Guys that's why they bring in 3rd rate foreign coaches first Mike heysson declined now Gary Kirsten or they bring in looser former players.

Nothing harsh about it, averaging 30 despite a third of his Tests being in Pakistan is appalling. His running between the wickets and catching was similarly poor. Taufiq Umar was a better Test opener but people were dazzled by Butt's English and upbringing like another left handed opener now.

We did not miss out on a Salman Butt golden era.

Why would a top rated coach want to take over reigns from someone like Misbah? When you give big positions to nobodies like Misbah, you devalue the position itself.

Pakistan had no business removing Arthur and if he would've gotten extension, I am sure we'd have much more appealing options to replace him with at the end of his tenure.
 
Used to be a fan of Ehsan Mani and Wasim Khan but must say they have destroyed the future of Pakistan Cricket. Why on earth was an ICC trophy winning and 11 t20i series in a row winning coach replaced by a guy who has never coached in his entire life?
Why the hell was he not only made coach but also chief selector?

Mickey may have been a rubbish test coach but in limited overs he transformed our side. We became a modern day batting team to a certain extent achieving scores of over 340 3 times in a row in the series prior to the WC as well as generally a good display in the WC.
Other than the disastrous performance against WI we played well in the WC. India and Australia are far superior teams to us so they were always gonna beat us.

Our cricket setup is in need of revamping, from Coaching to team selection, academies to the condition of our pitches and domestic cricket, and our A-team and emerging team tours.


Players should be promoted based on performance and not on rishwat or reshtadari

Misbah's performance is meeting expectation - he's not better or worse.
I wouldn't expect a coach with no coaching or player management experience or training to perform any differently.

Wasim Khan, who appointed Misbah, is the one who should be 'facing the music'
 
They should pick the top 10 coaches in the country and send them on an intensive 24 month programme of qualifications and shadowing in english county cricket. The Amir debacle should never have happened. Its a red flag!

Meanwhile lets get a professional from abroad shall we. Its a no brainer.
 
Realistically speaking, top level coaches around the world will not see the Pakistan Head Coach role as very tempting.

Main reasons being, it's a poisoned chalice, no stability in the job, no stability at PCB, salary not as tempting as other jobs around the world.

What do you recommend then that the PCB should do? (Other than of course sacking Misbah & Waqar)
