Mohamed Salah signs a new three-year contract with Liverpool

Egypt captain Mohamed Salah has hinted he will remain at Liverpool next season after the appointment of Arne Slot as the club's new manager

Liverpool rejected a £150m offer from Al-Ittihad for the 31-year-old last September, and the forward has again been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

Salah scored 25 goals in 44 games in all competitions this season but the only silverware the Anfield side picked up in Jurgen Klopp's final campaign in charge was the League Cup.

"We know that trophies are what count and we will do everything possible to make that happen next season," Salah posted on X., external

"Our fans deserve it and we will fight like hell."

Salah has one year remaining on his contract at Liverpool and, after Al-Ittihad's bid was rejected last year, the Saudi Pro League's director of football Michael Emenalo said the door was not closed to the Egyptian.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Karim Benzema and Riyad Mahrez are among the high-profile players who have moved to Saudi Arabia in the past 18 months.

Salah also posted a message of thanks to Klopp, who guided the Reds to the Champions League and Club World Cup in 2019 and the Premier League title in 2019-20.

"It was great sharing all those trophies and experiences with you over the past seven years," Salah said.

"I wish you the best of luck for the future and hope we meet again."

Salah had a public falling-out with Klopp while preparing to come on as a substitute during their draw at West Ham last month, but the German said the argument was "completely resolved" at the start of May.

Liverpool finished third in the Premier League this season, nine points behind champions Manchester City, and Salah's tally of 18 league goals was his lowest since joining from Roma in 2017.

His name deserves some respect. He was the final piece in the jigsaw and remains the kingpin

Mohamed Salah's private thoughts on Arne Slot emerge amid Liverpool contract stand-off

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has revealed that Mohamed Salah has been impressed by Arne Slot during the early weeks of the Dutchman's reign.

The former Feyenoord chief was appointed as Jurgen Klopp's successor in the summer and has big shoes to fill following the German's successful nine-year spell at the helm.

Slot started his new role officially at the start of the month and has predominantly been working with players who were not away on international duty this summer, however, the majority of first-team players are now back in training ahead of the new Premier League campaign, which kicks off in three weeks time.

Adrian is not among them after leaving the Reds earlier this summer but his former team-mates, including Salah, have been sharing how well Slot's methods have been received.

Speaking in an interview with The Athletic, Adrian said: “I speak almost every day with many of the squad — Kostas Tsimikas, Mo Salah. They tell me they like it, the ideology is the same as with Jurgen. To be intense, direct, play with pace, press high, be brave.

“Liverpool’s squad is made for that. So the new coach will know how to adapt well to the players he has. And I wish him the best.”

The fact that Slot is making a positive impression on Salah will not be lost on Liverpool fans given the uncertainty surrounding the Egypt international, who has now entered the final year of his contract.

Salah has been the subject of interest from Saudi Arabia over the last 12 months and it had been expected that clubs from the Middle East would test Liverpool's resolve prior to the new season after Al-Ittihad saw a mammoth £150million bid for the forward knocked back late last summer.

It's understood that Liverpool are trying to convince Salah, who has plundered over 200 goals for the Reds, into extending his stay at Anfield beyond 2025. Mirror Football has already outlined that Liverpool do not want to sell Salah this summer - even if he will not commit to signing a new deal.

Club captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold are also out of contract at the end of the season and previous reports have outlined that tying all three players down to fresh terms are a priority for the club's top brass.

Ipswich Town v Liverpool - EPL 2024

Salah makes it 2-0 as he exchanges passes with Szoboszlai before prodding a low shot underneath.

Record Alert:
That was Salah's ninth goal for Liverpool on the opening weekend of a Premier League season. That's more than anyone else in the competition's history.

This record won’t be broken for possibly decades.

Salah without his curly hair continues to look very sharp , physically very fit & pure class with his movement, passing & shooting .

Mohamed Salah targeted yet another stellar season after his decisive display in Liverpool’s 2-0 win at Ipswich Town in their opening game of the new Premier League campaign

A goal and an assist from the No.11 led the Reds to victory at Portman Road on Saturday lunchtime, with Salah first teeing up Diogo Jota to open the scoring before striking himself soon after.

The Egyptian’s close-range finish saw him set a new record for goals scored on the first day of Premier League campaigns, his tally of nine taking him clear of Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer on the occasion of his 350th appearance for the club.

Post-match, Salah spoke with TNT Sports. Read the interview in full below.

On the game…

It was quite tough today, to be fair. The weather is really warm today but it’s a tough team and I’m glad that we won the game today. I am always happy to make the difference for the team, that’s the most important thing, that the team won the game, so we just need to carry on.

On whether it is tricky to face a newly promoted team…

Yeah, definitely. When they play at home especially it is quite tough. First game of the season, the crowd is always up and they always push them forward. It’s quite tough, we knew that before the game – we have played for many years now in the Premier League so we have that experience. So, yeah, we expected a tough game.

On why he is so productive on the opening day of seasons…

I don’t know! Hopefully I’ll keep going like this through the whole season, not just the first game! I try to help the team all the time. The most important thing is that the team wins the game. I’m always happy to score goals and to give assists so I just need to carry on.

On whether Arne Slot asks anything different of him in terms of his own role in the team…

It’s quite different because Jürgen [Klopp] was in [charge] of the team for eight years here at Liverpool. He gave everything and now there is a new manager, a new system. It’s quite different for all of us so we need to adapt. We just take it step by step because some players also came back late, so we just need to know his way of playing and to enjoy the football.

On what Liverpool supporters can expect to see under Slot this season…

Well, we don’t need to put more pressure on him! We just need to play football and enjoy our games and let’s see in the end.

'This is my last year' - Salah says no talks over new Liverpool deal

Mohamed Salah says it is his "last year" at Liverpool and that nobody at the club has talked to him about a new contract.

The 32-year-old, whose current deal at Anfield is set to expire next summer, scored in the Reds' thumping 3-0 win at Manchester United on Sunday.

Salah said afterwards he had treated the match like it was his last at Old Trafford.

"I was coming to the game, I was saying, 'look, it could be the last time'," he told Sky Sports.

"Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contracts so I was just like, 'OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season'.

"I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”

When asked about Salah's comments, manager Arne Slot said: "It's a lot of 'if'. At this moment he is one of ours and I am really happy with him being one of ours and he played really well.

"I don't talk about contracts from players but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today."

In July 2022, Salah signed a new three-year deal, making him reportedly the highest paid player in the club's history, on more than £350,000 a week.

Liverpool rejected a £150m offer from Al-Ittihad for Salah last September.

Liverpool will open talks with Mohamed Salah “soon” after his on-air plea on Sunday (1 September), sources have told Football Insider.

In a bombshell in the immediate aftermath of his team’s 3-0 drubbing of Man United at Old Trafford, Salah told Sky Sports this is his “last season” at the club as “nobody has talked to me” about a new deal.

The Egypt international, 32, has gone public for the first time about his Anfield future, heaping pressure on Liverpool chiefs with his deal set to expire in June 2025.

But sources say the saga is set to take another twist, as talks are set to open with Salah within weeks.

It is believed all focus had been on bedding in the new manager Arne Slot and the new recruitment staff such as Richard Hughes and the returning Michael Edwards.

The transfer window slammed shut on Friday (30 August) and Liverpool are now set to start negotiations with Salah.

Salah feels 'more out than in' with no new Liverpool deal on table

The 32-year-old, who has scored 12 goals in all competitions this season, is out of contract at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

The Egypt international showed his enduring value on Sunday, scoring twice in Liverpool's 3-2 victory at Southampton, which took them eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

But his comments after the match suggest Salah, who arrived at Anfield in 2017 and has won the Champions League and Premier League with the club, could leave for free.

"We are almost in December and I haven't received any offers yet to stay in the club," he said. "I'm probably more out than in.

"You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands."

Salah is one of the three key Liverpool players who will soon be heading into the last six months of their deals, with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also out of contract at the end of the season.

All three will be free to speak to overseas clubs in January if they do not sign an extension before then.

Asked if he was disappointed not to have received an offer from Liverpool, Salah added: "Of course, yeah. I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans' hands. Let's wait and see.

"I'm not going to retire soon so I'm just playing, focusing on the season and I'm trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. I'm disappointed but we will see."

Salah is funny lol.

Give the man his contract and money.!

If he wasn’t a muslim he would have an MBE by now.

He deserves it for his impact in the premier league and improving certain parts of society in the UK for the better when it comes to Islamophobia.

There use be a saying that whenever he plays, far-right violence/abuse declines in Liverpool.

Possibly, yes.

20 years ago, Liverpool was a very racist city. I used to travel to matches when I was a young man, luckily have a few friends there and dont have much fear esp when wearing an LFC top. Salah has made a huge difference, in fact many have become Muslims since his arrival 8 years ago. Its not just elite performances but more importantly the way his conducts himself on and off the pitch. A true professional , first at training every morning and always prays daily inc before matches, hence why he is the last one out.

Remember the horrific incident recently where in Southport poor kids were stabbed by the lunatic? 90% of the far right who came out the mosque were not from the area, mostly fans of the clown Tommy Robinson. Next evening many locals came out to help build the mosque, help with food etc. Its not all Salah but much of this change is due to him. A true legend of the City

Salah 'far away' from new Liverpool deal

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah says he is "far away" from signing a new deal at the Premier League club.

Salah, 32, is out of contract at the end of the season and can enter negotiations with non-English clubs on 1 January over a free transfer once his deal expires.

The Egyptian scored his 20th goal of the season as Liverpool beat West Ham 5-0 at the London Stadium on Sunday to extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points.

Asked about his future following the victory, Salah told Sky Sports: "No, we are far away from that [contract] and I don't want to put anything in the media.

"The only thing on my mind is I want Liverpool to win the league and I want to be part of that.

"I will do my best for the team to win the trophy. There is a few other teams catching up with us and we need to stay focused and humble and go again."

No progress on Liverpool contract - Salah

Mohamed Salah says there has been no progress on extending his Liverpool contract - and a breakthrough is "far away".

The Egypt forward has entered the final six months of his deal and can now hold talks with non-English clubs over a free transfer when it expires this summer.

The 32-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017, has scored 20 goals in all competitions this season to help the Reds top the Premier League and Champions League tables.

Asked whether he thought this was his final season at Anfield, he told Sky Sports: , external"So far, yes. It's the last six months.

"There is no progress there. We are far away from any progress.

"So, we just need to wait and see."

Asked about the prospect of winning the Premier League this season, he added: "It's my last year in the club so you want to do something special for the city."

Salah has been increasingly vocal about his Liverpool future in media interviews over recent months.

Following a 3-0 win against Manchester United in September, Salah said he treated the game as if it was the "last time" he would play at Old Trafford, before saying something similar when Liverpool beat Manchester City last month.

After a win over Southampton in November the former Chelsea forward said he was "disappointed" by the lack of a contract offer, reiterating after Monday's win at West Ham that any agreement was "far away".

Despite those comments Salah says he has been able to block out the speculation and focus on his football.

He said: "The thing in my head is that if this is the last six months, what do you want to see in the future?

"Do you want to look back and say I was concerned or stressed about the contract? Or do you just want to say I had an unbelievable season? That's what is in my head.

"If I ever feel distraction, I just remind myself I want to look back and say I had an unbelievable season. That's what I want to do."

Salah is the Premier League top scorer this season with 17 goals, three ahead of Manchester City's Erling Haaland.

The former Basel forward, club captain Virgil van Dijk and England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract at the end of the season.

Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, though Reds manager Arne Slot says he is "fully committed" to the club.

Liverpool forward being lined up by Al Hilal for transfer as Neymar replacement

Al Hilal are ready to offer Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah a lucrative contract if he wants to leave Europe and play in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi champions are looking for a high-profile signing to replace Neymar.

Neymar's contract runs out at the end of this season and Al Hilal can offer to make Salah one of the star names at the expanded Club World Cup in the USA in June and July.

Salah will be a free agent this summer and he has been free to talk to foreign clubs since the start of this month.

Liverpool rejected a £150m offer for Salah from Al Ittihad in August 2023.

'Elite mindset' - Salah hits 50th European goal for Liverpool

Another day, another Mohamed Salah goal and another Liverpool win.

The Egypt forward has now scored three Champions League goals this season and 22 in 31 games in all competitions.

He has also set up another 17 for team-mates and his total of 39 goal involvements is the highest of any player in Europe's big five leagues.

His latest goal set Liverpool on their way to victory against Lille and to securing their place in the Champions League last 16.

It was a nonchalant finish as he latched on to Curtis Jones' superb through ball and lifted over the advancing Lucas Chevalier.

It was his 50th goal in Europe for Liverpool - with 44 coming in the Champions League, five in last season's Europa League and one in Champions League qualifying.

His latest strike extends his record as the club's leading European goalscorer and he has now scored 20 Champions League goals at Anfield.

Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero (23 at Etihad Stadium) and ex-Manchester United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy (23 at Old Trafford) are the only players to score more goals in the competition at a specific venue for an English team.

"There has always been a smile on Salah's face but it's just that belief in himself that he will score," said former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"That's what makes him so dangerous. That's the elite mindset of a player of his calibre."

He has also been directly involved in 18 goals in 15 appearances at Anfield this season (10 goals, eight assists in all competitions).

"He is a real talisman for Liverpool," said former Reds striker Robbie Fowler on Amazon Prime.

"He is a game winner. He is very comfortable in front of goal.

"He is one of those players that if he misses a chance, he is not fazed because the next one he will score.

"We wax lyrical about Mohamed Salah and know what he is capable of."

Speaking to Amazon Prime, Salah said: "Hopefully [it's] not the last one but I'm very proud of it. I wasn't focused on it before the game."

The 32-year-old's long-term future at Anfield has been a constant talking point, as he has yet to sign an extension to his contract that expires at the end of this season.

At the end of December, Salah said an agreement was "far away" but former Liverpool forward Luis Garcia said the "situation is not affecting him".

"He has never said he wants to leave," said Garcia on Amazon Prime.

"The club never said he wants to leave. I think they are trying to give him normality. Week in, week out he is delivering, he is scoring. So this situation is not affecting him."

Will likely get past 30 goals but needs a hat trick or two to pass 36 . However with his assists and goal combo taking lfc to title glory this could be the greatest single season by any player in PL history . Watching him play live you realise how strong and brilliant he really is .

A 30 goal with 20 assist season is enough to make it the single greatest season, especially as it will have resulted in a league title

Although Henry is a better player imo his 20, 20 season wasn't a league winning one if I'm not mistaken

Imo Henry had more talent, what he could do with the ball at his feet but Salah mentally stronger, much fitter as Henry was way in decline at this age. Salah will out do Henry's numbers by a mile in the next two years and surpass him. Henry went to barca , Salah intends to stay . Of course its only an opinion but for 90% lfc fans wouldn't swap him.

Tonight I'm sure he will want to shoot down some magpies, hope you enjoy his performance bro

he loves big matches , always a sign of a true great in any sport .

Today he and the team will be fired up more than ever as we are back home after 3 away matches and return with 11 points clear. The crowd will be very loud . Control the midfield and this will be a one sided affair, unless we see some brilliance with some superb shot. Gordon who is our future player will want to impress but Salah will take the oscar tonight as the top star .

Liverpool closing in on new Salah contract

Liverpool are moving closer to agreeing a new contract with forward Mohamed Salah.

Talks between all parties are ongoing and a final agreement is yet to be reached, but sources have indicated the club have made positive progress in their efforts and are hopeful a deal will be done.

Salah's deal expires at the end of the season and there has been some uncertainty over his future, with clubs in Saudi Arabia keen to land the Egypt international.

But the recent progress has raised hope at Anfield that Salah will extend his stay at the Premier League club.

Salah has been a key player for Liverpool since his arrival in the summer of 2017 and has been central to the team's title charge this season, scoring 32 goals across all competitions.

Earlier this week, captain Virgil van Dijk - whose deal also expires in the summer - provided a positive update on his own contract talks.

"There is progress, yes," said the defender.

"These are internal discussions and we'll see. I love the club, I love the fans and they were there for us again [at Fulham]."

There is less certainty about Trent Alexander-Arnold's future, however, with the right-back in talks with Real Madrid over a free transfer move to Spain before next season.

Salah signs new contract to stay at Liverpool

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has signed a new contract to extend his eight-year stay at Anfield, the Premier League club said on Friday.

"Of course I'm very excited. We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football," Salah said in a statement.

"It's great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.

"I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies."

Why Salah turned down '£500m Saudi move' for Liverpool stay

Mohamed Salah is staying at Liverpool, bringing one of the season's key storylines to a conclusion. At times, though, it seemed in doubt.

So what happened behind the scenes?

Was there a £500m offer from Saudi Arabia and how did the Egypt forward go from being unsure of his future to expressing delight at signing a deal that lasts until he turns 34?

Senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel reports…

When Salah set the cat among the pigeons about his future in November by saying he was 'more out than in', he wasn't being disingenuous.

Yet it was also not misleading to say the Egyptian always wanted to stay at Liverpool. The two stances weren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

It has always been Salah's ambition to extend his eight-year stay at Anfield – and news today of his new two-year contract will bring the 32-year-old's tenure at the club to a decade, should he see out the duration of the terms.

But the conditions – for both Salah and Liverpool – had to be right. Thankfully for the club's supporters a middle ground was finally reached.

Sources close to the situation indicated a breakthrough in talks between Salah, his representative Ramy Abbas Issa and Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes was reached at the end of March, with the formalities of the deal concluded earlier this week.

Indeed, in an interview with BBC Sport, left-back Andy Robertson revealed he only found out about Salah's new contract on Thursday.

'I'm not attacking them' - Mohamed Salah admits he was 90 per cent sure he was going to LEAVE Liverpool before striking two-year contract agreement

Salah sent the footballing world into overdrive when he said at the start of this season that this would be his last year at the club, as he entered the final 10 months of his contract. In late December, the 32-year-old revealed he and the Reds were still "far away" from agreeing new terms before he finally put pen to paper on a contract until 2027 in April. Now, he has admitted that he was not confident of extending his stay as he knows how owners, Fenway Sports Group, operate when it comes to contracts for players over 30.

He told Sky Sports: "Based on the club's history, 10 per cent [chance of staying]. Because we know the philosophy of the club, I'm not attacking them. I know how they deal with players over 30 in the past and I know how the situation will be so I never expect the club is going to be, 'Okay, you have two years there'. We reach a point in the money [negotiations], all of us are happy so I didn't expect I was going to stay. I think it took six months for the negotiation to go really quick and I think from January, I go, 'Okay, now things are getting better and better'. It took a while. I think the club tested me to see if I can provide or not (laughs). I didn't want more than that, just the two years."

When asked who was more important to tie down to a new deal, him or Virgil van Dijk, he laughed and replied: "I think both. You need clean sheets and goals, without goals and clean sheets you won't win trophies."

Liverpool fans in shock as Mohamed Salah 'to miss nine games including Arsenal away'

Mohamed Salah is set to miss up to nine crucial matches in Liverpool's upcoming season, including a key showdown with title rivals Arsenal.

Salah had an outstanding season last year, playing a pivotal role in Liverpool's successful title campaign. He once again proved his worth to the Merseyside club, scoring 29 goals and featuring in every single league match.

The Egyptian's contributions were vital in Liverpool's march to the title, their first Premier League victory since 2020, and after his future was secured with the signing of a two-year contract at the end of last season, all eyes will be on Salah to fire the Reds back to the title.
