How will Mohammad Amir be remembered as an international cricketer?

Amir be like: you don’t need to pay me to bowl wides under pressure. :klopp

Sad month for Amir. Firstly his chances of selection in the IPL got ended with the war. Now, he loses the final for his team. Better to take retirement from domestic as well.

The usual clowns will blame other players to deflect the criticism just like they blamed others for the USA defeat, but the fact is that Amir was the biggest culprit once again.

Time for 'legund' Amir to go back to Tabish Hashmi where he can make thandi juggatein. He can also give tips to Pakistan national team fast bowlers on how to bowl at death overs. His buddy Imad was already sitting in a cricket talk show for this final. Maybe both of them can talk their way into another T20 WC squad next year.

Unlucky Amir,

If only it was Babar and Rizwan to bowl to and not Sikander and Perera :klopp

Haha nice coping mechanism. He had enough runs on the board to defend but ended up conceding 18 in the penultimate over. And he was going all out, even took a drinks break in the over. If it was Rizwan doing this you would've called it dramaybaazi.

I don't think it was a drinks break it appeared to be a mild panic attack. A doctor like @Mamoon or @cricketjoshila can advise properly.

I hope I am wrong and 99% chance I am but it seemed to be a signal.
Same thing happened with Naseem Shah in previous game. He got 'injured' during an over and was smashed for rest of the over. Hopefully its due to poor fitness and not some easypaisa thing going on.

So Amir botched another game. LOL

He is a great bowler, but he is of no use to Pakistan anyway. His performances do not matter to me, nor his botched overs.

Amir is defo finished now. Great bowler who ruined his career. He came back with a bang and got a new lease on life, and redeemed himself for 2017 deapite what some forever angry Misbah fans claim.

But after 2019 he was clearly finished and started showcasing attitudes and what not.

Tbh he ruined his legacy in 2024 but overall it didn't do much damage as Pakistan was rubbish in 2024 anyway and wasn't going to win.

2009 and 2017 are highlights that no one can take away from him though.

I hope so and IA i am totally wrong. The last thing we need is another scandal.

He is finished. He should stick to giving his useless analysis on TV.
It’s not useless though?

He exposed Babar and Rizwan. He owned Babar and Rizwan throughout.

He will always be correct in that regard.

He exposed Babar and Rizwan just like you made the great call of making our greatest champion batsman Asif Ali Captain :ROFLMAO:

Did Asif Ali just win a PSL? The one in which Babar and Rizwan were knocked out in the group stage?

Yeah Asif Ali won that. He wasn't even playing in the Final or they would've lost. Great logic. Must be nice living in an alternate reality where people have imaginary achievements and the ones with actual achievements are failures lol

The only logical thing for you to do instead of disgracing yourself further here is by putting a sock in it.

2009? Really? He took just one wicket in the final and one in the semi-final. Overall, he managed only six wickets throughout the tournament, while the highest wicket-taker claimed 13. The true heroes of the final and semi-final were Abdul Razzaq and Shahid Afridi, respectively. During the league stage, it was Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal who led the bowling attack. Amir’s contribution in the 2009 T20 World Cup was marginal at best.

If there’s any phase worth highlighting from Amir’s pre-ban career, it has to be the 2010 tour of England. That’s when he truly showcased his talent and potential. Unfortunately chose money over fame and became history for good.

Agree to disagree, he took key wickets in 2009 and did contribute, im not stating that his contributions were > the players you mentioned. Im just stating he contributed well which is more then what I can say about our bowlers in recent tournaments.

I am still unable to understand what exactly Amir did in 2017. He was a passenger till the final and then fakhar helped team score an unbeatable score

If we take amir out of the 2017 squad, pakistan would still have 100% won the CT. But if you take out ali, Junaid Khan and Fakhar pakistan would never have won the cup.

It's extremely disingenuous of Amir fans to steal credit from those players just to give something to Amir

I repeat, without Amir in the squad pakistan would still 100% win the CT. Looks like Amir fans inherited same dishonesty of stealing credit from Amir himself.

What's dishonest is acting like Kohli, Rohit and Dhawan's wickets aren't a big deal considering kohli and rohit have a track record of chasing down 370 scores in that era.

Anyway dont make that final remark towards me, I do not appreciate it. Hate Amir but dont hate a poster who's simply commenting on the forumn and sharing an opinion.

Cheers

Destroying India’s top batters of that era within just 5 overs on a batting-friendly pitch, where even players like Hafeez and Malik managed to score freely, is an achievement worth remembering and celebrating.

The fact that it came against India doesn’t diminish its value in any way:facepalm

Anyone can "destroy" if target is 340 in a major final.

A target of 300+ has NEVER been chased in any world cup or CT final in history of cricket

A target of 250+ has been chased ONCE

This is by any team in the history of cricket.

That's the pressure of chasing in a big final.

Even Zimbabwe bowlers would have "destroyed" any lineup if they had pressure of chasing 340 in CT final.

That was what destroyed indian lineup,

Nothing.

His fans, who have to deal with the fixing stigma want to attribute everything good to him basically.

It was Fakhar that was us that final that day and without him we would had never won.

Any respect Amir had was just lost recently when he said that if PSL and IPL took place he would go for IPL. And than the mini war happened and the way Indians insulted Pakistanis, it served Amir right.

Everyone has started to hate him and rightly so.

He just lost two leagues due to his bowling. So he should now face the music

Amir didn’t win the CT Final for Pakistan but he certainly made the victory emphatic. A record-breaking 180 runs margin would not have been possible without his spell.

Amir broke India's back that day. They had the 3 best batsmen of the tournament lined up to chase down a score on a flatty patty. Amir broke all of India's hearts in just the 45 minutes of their innings. This boosted Pakistan's spirits and freed pressure from the other bowlers. Credit where credit is due.

Yes, we can't act like he single-handedly won that game, but some people also act like he was irrelevant which is insane.

Mohammad Amir took 2/46 in Vitality Blast game against Hampshire, bit on a expensive side but took 2 major wickets.

Amir is likely 35-36. It shows when he gets tired bowling the penultimate death overs where he can't nail his yorkers properly. When he was sentenced in juvenille prison a lot of reporters mentioned he was very lucky because his actual age was 3-4 years older than his listed age.

Millions in Pakistan still call him legend ! Look at any comment section of his video. Amir is very smart in portraying himself as a victim and gaining sympathy. Its like people have already forgot that he sold his country. Salman Butt failed massively in this regard.

Also, a lot of Pakistanis think in terms of binaries so those who hate Babar-Rizwan end up supporting Amir-Imad types.

Salman Butt has rebuilt his life, he runs a successful youtube channel and is indemand on tv as a cricket expert and is Pakistan's premier Urdu and English commentator in domestic cricket, the PCB chose him for Urdu commentary duties for the PSL. He is also in charge of the Ghani Institute Sports team. Given the stigma of spot fixing, you cannot call him a failure.

He failed to gain back public support like Amir. People still hate Salman but love Amir and even Asif.

He’s a propaganda mouthpiece

Salman Butt clearly hasn’t learned the decency of being honest.

Mohammad Amir bagged 2 wickets after delivering a bit expensive spell of 43 runs in 4 overs against Glamorgan while representing Essex in Vitality Blast 2025.

Lol, the guy doesn't have stamina for 4 overs anymore. His age shows i.e. 35-36 when he is bowling at the death and struggling to nail the yorkers. He cost us the T-20 game super over against the US as well.

Mohammad Amir delivered a phenomenal spell for Essex against Middlesex as he registered impressive figures of 3/19.

Mohammad Amir bowled a superb spell once again. Although he remained wicketless but he delivered an economical 4-over spell conceding just 26 runs against Kent in the 2025 Vitality Blast.

Mohammad Amir delivered with the ball for his side Essex against Gloucestershire as he registered impressive figures of 3/33 in 4 overs.

Mohammad Amir took 2/36 in the Vitality Blast clash against Surrey, helped Essex secure a 4-wicket victory.

Mohammad Amir bagged 1 wicket in his four-over spell against Hampshire Hawks and finished his spell with bowling figures of 1/32.

Everytime I see the retirement thread it hurts, like why can’t bums like Shaheen retire and be done with it? bowls like it these days anyway, his peak was shorter then Amir’s and that’s without any genuine controversy 🤡

Naive of you. Shaheen has been your best bowler over the years.
Amir avg 30 in 2 formats. Idk what was great about him.
Never saw him take 5 fer in odis.
Amir has been treated like a golden kid but didnt do zilch after coming back. It was fakhar who won us 2017 ct.

Amir will forever be remembered for that cheating, his 2009, 2017 efforts and his t20 world cup choke against USA..

Talented bowler who never played for the country since he made a comeback. It was all for money and only money

Unless you’re delusional, Amir’s peak lasted longer then Shaheen’s who is finished at the top level, he has already chickened out from Tests, he quit twice in crunch ICC T20I events & in ODI’s my lasting memory of his was getting spanked by the Afghans at the grandest event in cricket, his pace is not what it use to be, he doesn’t bend his back unless he is playing league cricket and he has a huge inflated ego which is not justified.

The same argument can be made for Babar Azam and Rizwan clinging on to T20s where they have no business.

I am watching you getting desperate to prove the greatness of a guy who sold his country and the came back and then did it again..only for money...

I haven’t proved he was great. I don’t need to. Amir for whatever he did offer to Pakistan was great. He’s a certified, rated bowler by the best batters in the game.

You people who love Babar and Rizwan aught to be respectful towards him. Stop bringing in irrelevant stuff to bring him down just because he spoke the truth and exposed the selfishness of your heroes!

He can sell what he wants, he gave me two ICC trophies.

What has Sharif Shaheen done besides assume a certain position for your neighbours?

Their is no desperation. The desperation is you guys constantly equating his ban to his career as a whole.

They are 2 separate things. They aren't to be equated.

As a player Amir failed in test cricket and had a sad end to his whiteball career in 2024.

But it wont change the reality of him winning 2009 and 2017 cup. No amount of fakhar won it will deny the reality.

Fakhar was the best batsmen followed by Amir being the best bowler.

This whole fakhar had already won it and india never chasing it regardless of amir's intervention is nothing more then a could have, would have hypothetical nonsense that you can never validate.

The simple reality is that he pulled his weight in 2009 and 2017 and took important wickets with a killer economy.

Thos argument is as ratty as stating Glenn Mchrath didnt do anything In 2003 as Ricky Ponting had already outdated India. We do not know if India could have chased it or not without mcgrath's help but we do know mcgrath bowled the best and his bowling definitely killed India's chances.

In Tests, sadly it’s a case of what if really.

In the England & NZ series pre-ban he looked phenomenal, I think he also toured Lanka then because I recall watching that series on ARY here in the UK, back when TV actually cared about bidding for the rights of home Tests; during that series his numbers would look much better was it not for dropped catches.

Even when he came back in 2016, the catches dropped off his bowling during the England series was ridiculous.

So while objectively speaking, he didn’t achieve much in Tests; the matches he did play, showed me he was a world class bowler who could have reached 300 Test wickets minimum if handled well.

Amir even post ban could have been useful for Pakistan in Tests & Mickey Arthur had a good plan figured out for his workload and maximising his strengths & high impact.

There’s no doubt he had the ability. But for all his failings, no Pakistan fast bowler has achieved more this century imo.

What is peak acc to you? You pick and choose certain matches together and call it a peak or you have certain years that you call a peak.
Tell me in which period Amir's so called peak was

Lets go to the basics and reality. You underrated bumrah by saying that he never took 10w in a match and hence he ain't a match winner.
Then how can you rate amir as odi bowler with 30 avg. 1 5w haul and 1 4w haul.
Meanwhile in his short career and almost same matches shaheen has taken 40 plus more wickets. 3 five wkt hauls and 7 4w hauls with way better avg.

Amir career has just been like usa game in wc.
Started good.
There were brilliant yorkers in death.
And ended in shambles like the super over.

Thats it.

Shaheen is twice the bowler amir was in odis.

T20s its a close call.

Test both are not good but shaheen still can turn it around.

I didn't underrate bumrah as a test bowler. I was getting fed up with indian propaganda including yours before England busted this Myth.

Bumrah isn't in the league of starc let alone mcgrath

You can use stats, the reality doesnt change from the fact that 2 cups were given to us on the back of amir bowling 2 very important spells at 2 very important junctions.

What has Shaheen achieved for his country that is remotely close to Amir? And he’s already finished at the top level, I don’t engage jobbers normally so come up with something compelling or else this 7 time POTW winner don’t have time for you except for the PP main-eventer’s such as @Rana & @mominsaigol , the latter has the energy of youth to squash the peasants so I will let him continue the burial otherwise.
@Rana

He's also ignoring the fact that while Shaheen has more wickets in odi while playing less matches, shaheen also faced lots of lower ranked teams amd b string which Amir didn't.

Amir played full strength sides until ban, after that he returned to the side playing full strength sides until 2019.

He hardly played against jobbers.

No one stated Amir is > starc, rabada etc.

But he is > Shaheen.

Prime Shaheen can be considered > Amir skills wise but the issue is he shares the same bumrah choke mentality while prime Amir is essentially Pakistan's version of starc. Always shows up in icc events excluding t20 where starc also botched it against rohit recently in 2024

That’s a good point, ignoring Amir’s trophy cabinet, he hardly had a poor ICC tournament, I would be shocked if he had a couple of poor events based on the numbers alone. I am just going off the top of my head because I don’t ever recall thinking, damn Amir, that was an average tournie for you. And against the arch rivals he turned it on.

2024 is his red mark. Tbf to posters who hate Amir its impossible to ignore.

But its at the end of his career as well. Not his prime

Amir has been replaced by Jacob Duffy for the squad of Northern Superchargers in THE HUNDRED 2025...

Mohammad Amir will be playing for the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in CPL that is why he left Hundred.
